Thomas that was a great video can't wait to watch your next vid. The video was very informant and I like how your tank looks! Will be looking forward to next Thursday thanks
Thanks. I am glad you enjoyed the video AND my tank! It was pretty bare back when we filmed this. When I show it again it should be full of life. Thanks again!
Love the new show Thomas. He said take pictures to see the growth. I been taking pictures of my planted aquarium so I can compare and see the plant growth. It's also good to count your fry. Thanks for sharing.
Great interview that brought back a lot of memories and very interesting as well. I am one of the early birds in this hobby and at that time Albert was one of the most respected authors available. I know I read everything he ever wrote and what ever he said was gospel at the time. Albert mentioned a few books in this article but one book I did have at the time was Stephen Spotte's Marine Aquarium Keeping, first edition. I found this book to be invaluable in my early years. And yes, back at that time there was not much available to the marine hobbyists. I recall buying my instant ocean out of a 55 gallon drum and we bought by the pound as the product was not available in sized packaging. My first protein skimmer was a German brand called Sanders and the model name was Piccolo. No such thing back then as pump powered skimmers, they all were driven by lime wood air stones and you had to have a pretty good air pump if you wanted efficiency out of the unit but they were no comparison to the skimmers available today although they did help improve water quality. The other new product at the time was Dick Boyd's Chemi Pure. If you had a yellow tint in the water this sure removed it fast. It was and still is much better than any activated carbon available today and thank God the product is still made today.
Hi friend. I have reef aquarium 600 L net water. What is the recommended ORP level to set in the redox controller to get optimal results especially to minimize the bad bacteria and deasese in the aquarium.
Hi Thomas Question on ORP , when it goes up does oxygen in water column increase as well? Also ozone oxidation kills bacteria so after setting up a tank and cycling, when should ozone be added? I herd its great at killing off disease, and be kept around 325 orp Is this correct? Thanks for the info...
abreezeducttesting via Albert Thiel - Yes it increases the ORP and the oxygen levels Thomas but ozone should never get into the aquarium itself. I will kill off bacteria that are free floating and end up in the skimmer and then get killed by the ozone that is injected in it. And yes a highORP keeps disease at bay but is not a cure if the fish are already infected. Ozone will kill off free floating spores of ick but not the ones on the fish since no ozone gets in to the tank. It kills the spores that get into the skimmer but nothing more.
thanks for reply so ozone could be used after cycling a new tank but never let ozone get in the tank. so at very low levels like 10 - 15 . Thank again Thomas
So if I understood well. If I use Sander ozonizer + Sander redox potential controller, I can be cam. So, I don't have to afraid any more about my family. am I correct? because the aquarium is in my living room
I just bought a ozone generator for my reef tank. brand name AQUATECH. it does 100/200mg of ozone. It also has a dial on it. What setting do I put it on for a 60 gallon reef tank?
As said use your nose and here is how turn the ozone up slowly over a period of say an hour if you are using it in your skimmer then sniff around the skimmer until you can smell ozone. Once you have detected ozone in the air then you know you have exceeded saturation point for your ozone to water interface. At this point back the ozone dial back a touch untill you can no longer smell ozone. Job done.
Very good video. If I could offer one bit of feedback. It is distracting to have music playing under the talking. At times it is difficult to understand him because of the music.
I loved this one. It's has a more personal feel. I definitely like this show. I love all of your shows, but this one hit home. You hit a lot of basic topics that someone who is just starting the hobby would have. I've been in the hobby for over 5 years, and I could never get a solid answer out of anyone about ozone. Lol. Great show bro
I think Albert has forgotten more than I will ever know about reefkeeping. It's an honor to get to learn from him. Since 1989 he has been my mentor.
Hi Joe, long time no see! Yes Abert is a legend. It was a pleasure to have him on the show! Thanks for watching!
Great series Thomas. This may be one of the best interview shows in the hobby!
Great format! looking forward to more interviews!

thanks for all the hard work
Thx no problem. Wanted to switch things up a little :-)
Informative topics and a great person to interview, really looking forward to next one already!

Hi, can Ozone be used to eliminate or help with fish pests in an only fish tank?
What a hero. Thanks Thomas!
Well done Thomas and Albert!
Nice Interview T. Brown!
Thx Dee!

RIP, Mr. Thiel.
Very Nice!
9:10 for the ozone
RIP Mr Theil, there is a Go Fund Me for him for his medical expenses.
Is it just me or does Albert sound a little like Christopher Walken?
I don't see the AquaMedic; powerhead any more :)
I still have two of them till this day. Love em. This video is a few months old btw :-).
enjoyed that was interesting thankyou, f**ked with my eyes and ears abit thou :p
