Very strong point on the video Roman! I think having a story telling project takes the silly pressure off taking that one in a life time photo every time you go out! It doesn’t have to be this way and in reality it’s very very rare to take a photo like that. Having a project on the day of story telling rather than one absolutely great shot, I find is challenging in a healthy way, sparks your creativity more and makes you more organised in terms of the thought process. Until of course you get good enough at it and pressure kicks in to tell a one in a life time story😂😂😂 Thanks for the video Roman, greatly appreciated!
This video gave me inspiration on doing a photo set, rather than just taking random images of a location, which may look nice themselves, but are not having enough variety to actually tell a story. Thanks for that,
I’m currently travelling the east coast of Australia and capturing sets along the way - this is actually super useful as a potential way to structure my posts / photo sets and tell more of a story of each location. Thanks Roman!
What I like about your photography, is that when you say “street photography”, we don’t always get the same NYC or famous downtown city photos. Sometimes we get some nature in the background and different contexts. Great teaching as always, thank you!
Love it! The idea of a wide establishing shot is so simple but I never really thought about this. I'll keep all this in mind this weekend.. thanks a ton 👌
Your chanel is the best I have come across for photography. I am getting a Fuji ex3 in a few days and what I have learned on here has already helped me before even getting my hands on the camera. Thank you fo your dedication and opinions.
Really like the idea of photo storytelling, remembered you mentioning it in another videos, glad you got more in detail in this one, I'm gonna start doing it Roman
Thanks for a great video again. When we were on riverboat trips in Europe pre covid, I took a lot of photos along the methods you described. As an amateur , I actually surprised myself how it all came together. We recently put together several collages of our trips & hung them in a hallway in the (finished) basement where we hang out a lot.
Hi, I've recently got into the photography game, particularly into streetphotography. I just have to say your videos and words of encouragement have helped me enjoy this new hobby of mine 🙂
Love the video, lots of good advice and I liked how you showed photos as you explained yourself. The more you go out, the better chance of getting that great shot.
I appreciate your work Roman and the fact that you share it with us. I was always struggling with how to post my photos. I will definitely be using this way of storytelling, and I also realised that I tend to take pictures in this way so thank you for the clarity. Cheers!
Good points for sure. I’ve always believed the most successful images leave a question in your mind when you look at them. There was a time when I did a lot of photo stories might have to revisit that. Thanks for the ideas.
Hey, thanks man for sharing this amazing moments with us. I recently have started to take photos and you inspire me with your style and the way how you look at that moments. I am looking forward to new ones 🙏🏻
This got me excited for my upcoming trip to Europe from the US! We will be traveling through London, Paris, Amsterdam, etc. Will probably be traveling for a few months. Bringing my X-T4, 10-24WR and 33mm 1.4WR. Should keep it simple enough so I can enjoy the trip while capturing some good photos and video. Your videos have made me feel much more informed and confident in my gear decisions, and the general street photography process. Thank you!
what i really like about these tips and ideas is that you can also apply them to filmmaking, so storytelling both for pictures and film is much clearer after this video. thanks a lot!
I love that you start off with "What is a story?" That is a crucial question that most people do not ask themselves! The rest is basically subjective, right? Very nice video!
This is something that I need to force myself to implement going forward. As you said it tells the overall story and gives the viewers a walkthrough of what you are experiencing. Cheers and happy holidays ❤
Great tip on storytelling! I struggle to chose which photos to publish on instagram. Lets say you have 3 strong images, and you dont want to have them stacked up in one post, what do you do? 1 perfect image + some less strong photos? And then again with the 2 other strong photos?
Really enjoy your photography videos. Learn something useful every time I watch..Very interested in improving my skills. I'm in the market for a camera wrist strap. Really like the one you have. May I ask where you purchased yours. Thanks for your help and keep the masterful videos coming.
I recently got the XT5 and the 33mm F/1.4 WR. Very much enjoying this combination that I’m hardly shooting with the 23mm. Definitely your praise of the 33mm played a role in deciding to get the lens.
This is because a photo can't tell a story!! A video, a film or a book tell stories....a photo only captures a still image of what ever you have taken. It can invoke questions, certainly, but I would challenge anyone to tell me what the "story" is from 1 or more images.
I like the approach! A challenge is that I would often start with a horizontal picture as an establishing shot and then probably vertical ones for some of the rest. Now combining these in one story always requires trickery on our most popular social media Plattform which unfortunately still has the biggest audience 😅
Is it possible to tell a story if you only have a 1 camera/1 lens configuration? Also, this is especially true if one does not have an interchangeable lens camera.
Interesting about this "a photo should tell a story", when I look at your great photos or from other street photographers I read no stories. Not saying there is none, but I'm looking at the photos for the quality of the composition and the lighting. That's what I enjoy.
Hey Rom. You know I love your videos but I have a question. Is it possible that you show your settings for every pic you share in your videos? Just the shutterspeed and iso an aperture. And maybe your focal lengths? You know what I mean ? You know I’m on the Streetfotographyjourney since 2 years with my xt4 but sometimes when I see your picture I sometimes wonder witch settings did he use to get this dynamic range and everything.
Hey man, the reasons I stopped sharing is as follows: If I share what focal length I use, it’s meaningless because most of my images are cropped. So it will mislead. If I share shutter speed / iso / aperture, it will be equally misleading. I often shoot over or under exposed for the edit. Secondly I always shoot in aperture priority so I don’t even decide on the iso and shutter speed. Now I could share aperture values but that again changes the perceived depth of field once the image is cropped. So these settings often have little to no value unless you also know the context, lighting, cropping and editing. That’s why I don’t share them, they usually hinder and don’t help
Thanks for the explanation. 😄 it’s understandable that you don’t share the settings under this condition. Have a great Christmas and a healthy new year. ✌️ greets from Germany.
I don’t think it’s all about luck, otherwise there wouldn’t be the few photographers who stand out over the others. I myself am always looking around, trying to find something that interests me, and through that, hopefully playful mind, I’ll find something to be inspired about. If serendipity can work in that realm, it just makes it better! My best pictures come when I’m having fun and looking at it as such and not as job or task. 🖖
It doesn't matter toooo much but generally one establishing, two subject and two detail. Although it varies a lot and this is just an idea and not a must
@@snapsbyfox I was talking more about aspect ratio. Sorry for the confusion there. I should've been more specific. Do you shoot with a 4:5 since that's what fits on Instagram?
I think this is the first Roman Fox video I did not like, and I have been following for a long time. Looking at the majority of comments on here I can see that I am out of step but many of the photos shown are not my idea of good ones and if I had taken them, I would have discarded them. However, I fully accept that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and over 99% of your videos appeal to me.
Besides being a talented photographer you’re also a gifted teacher as well. Much appreciated, Roman.
Thank you!

I was just looking about that like a day ago in my research of being more thoughtful with my photography and there you are...

dude so much infos and all for free! really great content and super nice example pictures! keep going!
I love create series of photos and from now on I’ll try to follow all the steps! Thanks 🙏🏻 👌🏻💪🏻
Creating some sort of collage instead of using one photo to deliver a mood or feeling is super helpful, thank you

More power!

Awesome video again and those Turkish coffee things are called "bakır cezve" (copper coffee pot)
Yes! Thank you!
Love this format ! Very instructive thanks

hmmm yeah either spread them thin or just put then all together. or make it a challenge to complete 3 separate photo sets

@@MagicJF Missed the point somewhat......a video IS a sequence of photos. That is just the point. A single photo cannot tell a story is what I said
