Algarve is the most popular tourist destination in Portugal, and one of the most popular in Europe. It is currently the third richest region in Portugal, after Lisbon and Madeira.
Tourism and related activities are extensive and make up the bulk of the Algarve's summer economy. Production of food, which includes fish and other seafood, fruit, oranges, carob beans, figs and almonds, is also economically important in the region.
The western Algarve is also known as “Rocky Algarve” due to the impressive limestone rocks dominating the coastline. Small romantic bays, hidden creeks and caves formed by the waves of the Atlantic Ocean, accessible only by boat, are surrounded by rugged rock formations. This scenario is interrupted by several large bays with sandy beaches.
According to World Travel Awards, Algarve is the Europe's Leading Golf Destination 2013 and 2014. There are over 25 top-class courses in the Algarve, most of which were designed by legendary names such as Nick Faldo, Seve Ballesteros, Jack Nicklaus and Christy O'Connor Jnr.
The Algarve is famous for its pottery and ceramics, particularly hand-painted pottery and azulejos, which are painted, tin-glazed ceramic tiles. There are numerous ceramics and pottery outlets throughout the Algarve. For working potteries and ceramics workshops the main, or best-known, pottery centers are located in the towns of Almancil, Porches and Loulé, but there are many other potteries and workshops in the Algarve region.
Algarve (from Arabic: al-Gharb "the West") is the southernmost region of continental Portugal, on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean.

The Algarve is a beautiful Holiday destination. I love Armacao De Pera, its stunning. I was there last just a few months ago.
We have been there every year for the last three. It is everything and more that the video shows. A perfect enjoyable and relaxing holiday!

@@scottevans1244 If you take in account that the average wage here in Portugal is around €900.00, so yes, you can live a comfortable life with 3000, no matter if you're talking about euros, dollars or pounds. But all depends on many factors, as your way of living, how many people you have in your family depending on those 3000 something. It's a big decision that deservs a lot of thinking and research. Good luck.

I can agree that Albufeira is over developed but that’s true of many resorts areas in USA. We stayed in a residential area right after it and it was paradise. We explored a different beach each day and and at night a restaurant. People could had not been more cordial and polite. We never felt like a tourist. I would go back anytime. The fall is great not because it’s cheap, because it’s quieter and less crowded. Portugal is beautiful from Oporto down to Faro....
From Viana to Faro u better should have said, if u haven't visit the northern region from Porto till Valença do Minho in the boarder u have missed outstanding landscapes, food and incredible cities such as, Braga, Guimarães, Viana do Castelo and other smaller villages around..
I have been there with my Husband its absolutely beautiful we enjoyed every minute we was there ....

Joe Szymanski I’ve been to Algarve on 7 different occasions from Montreal. My first time was in mid April until end of April 15c-19c for two weeks 58f- 65f. If you want o go on the beach the water only gets warm in early July until mid september

É claro que não é o Algarve nem Lisboa,mas temos muitas praias lindas também da Nazaré,Figueira da Foz,Quialhos, Tocha,Mira,Costa Nova,Aveiro...
Também precisamos de publicidade,nos últimos anos nem cresceram tanto como o resto das praias do sul Portuguesas,a maioria nem é conhecida dos Portugueses quanto mais fora do País

Is the public trasportation good in algarve? Can one travel without car?
From Faro you have the international airport, train station (CP), and bus.
If you want travel and discover the country you can use train. If you want local places in Algarve region use bus.. even from Faro you can get a bus to go to Spain.. from Faro do Spain is around 65 km..

Falta uma parte importante do Algarve e tão bonita como as do filme: a zona entre Faro e Vila Real de Santo António! Por que não mostrar uma linda vila como Castro Marim? Mostram sempre a mesma coisa do Algarve.

Thank you, Paul. I lived close to Faro for 20 years, from the age of 12, when my parents moved. I grew up, lived, studied and worked there, and speak Portuguese. So I am familiar with the place and a lot have changed. Much more roads and construction. But also with positive development/renovation of towns and beaches. It is still a region with beautiful coastal scenery and beaches. With nice, relaxed Portuguese people.
Interesting, I was invited to show films in the Finisterra Arrábida Film Art & Tourism Festivalin Portugal last year and the Director invited me to go visit, I must go!

Portugal's Dirty Little Secret: I am sitting at a cafe in Tavira overhearing a conversation between two young women. One just came to Portugal to take care of her grandmother who was assaulted and robbed by the small Tavira Real Estate Agency she was renting her apartment from. I am hearing more and more of these attacks on retirees coming to Portugal during the last year. I no longer go near any small real estate agency in Portugal. I have heard of similar incidents where retirees have been attacked east of Albufeira in areas like Quarteria and Olhao. I only use the large reputable companies. I guess that should be the case with most businesses today. I hope this practice doesn't spread to other parts of Portugal.
