It would be great to see a video showing the influence of the Zouave clothing design, especially the stitching, on modern military uniforms such as the Marines. I see clear similarities and influences, but I’ve never seen a video that clearly shows the progression.
The USMC uniform is based on the British version and the details are explained as having historical significance that have nothing to do with the French.
The Zouaves are Kabyles, and the Berbers of Algeria . To this day, there are many Zouaves who provide services to France because they are their mother.

The Federal Militia Act of 1797 let militia units decide on the equipment and the uniforms. The 7th New York and the 2nd Mississippi Infantry Regiments wore the same grey uniforms. First NG unit in the US.1863, NY State designated all militia units as the NYNG.

I would like to see videos on John brown and also the Confederate loyalist who wrapped himself in the stars and bars and shot himself after the war was lost.
Stylish reasons, but it was practical for the time. Colored uniforms made sure that commanding officers can see where their own men and other regiments are. Especially when gunpowder fills the air with smoke quickly.
@@imgvillasrc1608 Yeah but wasn't the Civil War the war where Americans, at the very least, discovered that Napoleonic tactics vs. modern warfare = a very bad time? Colorful uniforms = a quicker trip to Peter's gate.
You are wrong zwawa has nothing to do with zeouves . I could easily be wrong, but I thought the uniform choice was financial necessity. The confederacy couldn't afford expensive dyes or, later, a uniform at all.
Yes and no, both sides wore a motley of blue, gray, red, green, and even yellow. 5th Virginia, for example, wore mostly red (except co K which wore Continental Army uniforms), while 4th Virginia and 33rd Virginia wore different shades of blue (4th, light blue, 33rd, dark blue) and most confederate regiments wore gray.

You should some videos on different brigades e.g. Irish Brigade, Iron Brigade, Stonewall Brigade.
Ps. I like what I've seen so far.
Thanks! I actually have something bigger in the works atm
Saris I'll keep an eye out.
This is just a type of uniform :)
Truly appreciate the dedication and the work put into this.
Most units did not retain the special zouave uniforms as the war progressed. The 114th Pa was one of the units that did.
Finally I understand about these French uniforms in the civil war

The zouaves in the French army were exclusively european
I love this Civil War Music!!!
Massachusetts also had a ton of Zouave units
I love the videos man, but almost all of them, the Music is too loud and the dialog is to low.
Amazing uniforms.
They look like if MC Hammer was allowed to design uniforms
You can't touch these....
Hello, great video. I would like to see the Berdan sharpshooters video. Thanks.
Their was union and Confederate troops that wore legions caps like the French legions? Can you do a mini documentary on them.
Oui, il y avait des zouaves, dans l'armée confédérée

This uniform doesn't make any sense in an American war. Yet is precisely why I have always been attracted to the zouave.
My favorite Civil War Zouave Unit Regiment is the 1st Special Unit from Louisiana, Wheat Tigers Rifles.

Desert power in the 1800's.
I appreciate the information, but the music was to loud, and many of what you said was drowned out be the music..
So what did they actually do on the battlefield that distinguished them from other units?

The zouaves in the civil war were not French or north African. They were American. They fought in the zouaves style and dressed the same.

Can't hear over music, which isn't needed.
Anyone know if the Iowa 28th infantry was a Zouave unit?
I like the soundtrack, but learn from your man Ken Burns. Lower the volume a touch and don't have it constantly.
