I remember when I was a kid…having a photograph with a bule/foreigner means that I have been in a well known place in Indonesia. Some Indonesians are just excited to know that the place they visited also known by foreigners. Another reason, maybe Indonesians are just too friendly, no private bubble 😂

They ask a for photo because they rarely see visitors from other countries. It's really about curiosity, they've never seen someone like you before in person. I've seen people take pictures with black people in China all the time, because they've never seen anyone like that before. Don't take it as rudeness, it's all about curiosity, you are special in their eyes.
