As a British person its nice to see others spelling English words correctly ! just having a laff

I’m Irish and I find British humour bigoted, dated and pathetic 🤢🇮🇪🌈
The sad thing is that sketches like this, helped breakdown the prejudice barriers but now it's gone full circle and is now deemed "offensive"
Exactly!!!,, yes I'm UK British, and like someone else in the comment section it's nice to see an American viewing English humour,,
I've hated everybody equally always.
Only by morons.
This is exactly the same as an old 1960s British sitcom called "Til Death Us Do Part"
The "adventures" of a London family and it's patriarch Alf Garnett, was a reactionary white poorly educated working-class man who holds racist and anti-socialist views.
Some of the things he said were outrageous, but the reactions of those around him made him the but of the jokes and every week he was made a fool of, or more accurately made a fool of himself.
I grew up watching it and it developed a healthy contempt for people holding this type of views in real life.
The young self proclaimed historically guilty or victimised watching it now feel uncomfortable and like DeSantis and his fascist anti woke legislation are creating a world where we are supposed to either wrong our hands at or white privilege or weep in grief that we aren't receiving weekly reparations for the unfairness of history 🙄
fair enough. consistancy, thats the thing@@samuelgarrod8327
In a way a kinda love this Harry Enfield character. He represents the older generation of guys that were really trying to change and improve their views. In contrast to guys of a similar age group that would have just refused to accept the son or allow him to bring his partner to the house.
Yeah, the way it’s played you can see the dad truly loves his son and wants to accept him for who he is but doesn’t have the mental and emotional tools to avoid saying the wrong thing.
yeah man. really well said. this was a time when "homophobia" included a lot of confused elders.
Defo
My mom once told a transgender woman "I thought you were just a lesbian" XD
By partner do you mean boyfriend???
Nearly half that sketch is missing the end when the three of them in a pub is hilarious.
Is that when he wanted to “mince by?”
There going to the toilet...what together..
@@DavidKRoebuck That was the Christmas sketch.
There is also another sketch when he goes for a drive with his son and his boyfriend.
Harry Enfield...... made me laugh throughout my life.... fantastic comedy which always poked fun at the topical/political but always made both side laugh... no harm done... good solid comedy!
From a Brit in the UK. I remember watching this, must be about 30 years ago. It wouldn't be allowed now. A shame. This is British comedy at its best. Yes, just as good as Monty Python or Benny Hill.
Theres nothing quite like uncomfortable humour available from the British caught in an unfamiliar situation.
This isn't an exageration. My first wife's dad was like this. A quiet polite man that had real problems accepting his only son is gay. (My ex wife's brother). Apparently when he told his parents he collapsed on the ground (the dad that is). What's funny is they confided to another couple that their son was gay, only for the friend to say, "well, you can kind of understand because your quite effeminate yourself". He was mortified by that statement, and never forgave his friend. The son is barely mentioned, although financially they always helped him. The son has now been with the same partner for over 30 years, whils the rest of us are all divorced. He's a nice man, and my suspicion is, if he was born in a different generation he would himself, have embraced his gayness, but for him it was impossible to even contemplate. A lot of it is to do with religion, but mainly a very rigid middle class upbringing, typical of well to do British people brought up in 40's and 50's Britain, just like America I'm sure. His wife would say this about her own son, "We can love the sinner, but not the sin". That's how they judge their own son to this day.
Yeah I can believe it mate. Plenty of my dad's mates are like that, saying they would disown a gay son etc. It's very sad and needless. It just seems so silly to me, being upset with someone for being gay is like being upset with someone because of their shoe size! It's just how some people are wired, they have the desires and attractions they have, and it can't be changed. It's very hard on people to live a lie just to please their parents. I often wonder how many are still in the closet for those reasons, even in the 2020s.
@@goose300183 Yes that's true. They can't change the way they feel any more than a gay person can. Some people are just too different.
I'd disown my parents.
@@c_n_b That's also true I'm sure. If every part of you thinks that being gay is a reprehensible, sinful thing, it would be very difficult to accept it. It would always be in the way of interacting with a gay family member. I may think it's silly and not agree, but they can also think how they want to think - as long as it doesn't spill over into abuse. The danger of it is pushing away someone you love, and it would be hard on them too.
If you don’t believe what God told us about a man lying with a man ( or if you don’t believe in the God of scripture) ,I say go for it! If there is no God everything is possible. Judgement day,it can’t be true, can it?
Thank you for reminding us of these classics. Great reaction as always. Please do more of Harry Enfield’s work 👍👍👍 much love from 🇬🇧
I remember seeing this when it first aired back in the 90s, I was probably about 15 and it damn near killed me!
Me too lol was the 2nd part aired on the same episode or after?
@@jay71512 I can't remember now, but while this sketch lasted, I was in total stitches! 😂
@@Svvithred I loved the snobby ones, considerably richer than yow!
@@jay71512 they were classic!
Especially the lottery episode! 😂
@@Svvithred you'll never be accepted in polite society you dollop of dog snot pmsl. Yeah I love Harry Enfield and Whitehouse!
Dominic is played by Ewan Bremner who went on to play Spud in Trainspotting, and brilliant acting in Black Hawk Down.
... this was an early role, just getting his foot in the door like.
He was also in Pearl Harbour , good actor👌
@@dannymair8921 I believe he's also in Alien Vs Predator, playing a character called Graeme Miller. Yes, a good actor.
I hadn’t seen this in years. Sadly, comedy like this is no longer shown on tv through fears of offending.
The sad thing is that sketches like this helped breakdown the prejudice barriers and now it's gone full circle and is now deemed "offensive"
@Soul of a robot yeah you're right. It really annoys me when people point at things like this and just declare "you could never show this now", when you definitely could.
@Soul of a robot in that case, you might want to tell that to the likes of the bbc.
@@frankschlanker the same could be said for a lot of old shows, but everything is taken too literally or without context or looking into, esp on social media, which is arguably the root of a lot of problems today
@@frankschlanker it can be shown again - as it is satirical
Watched this a few times - “make yourself at homo” - best line.
‘Are you sure he didn’t have aids but still died in a car crash’, 😅😅😅
Forgot about this episode, it's hilarious and probably could never be made today. Still pmsl at it.
Another sketch had the same characters at Christmas. The father was asked if he'd like a mince pie.The father steps back.He then says " oh I'm sorry,I thought you said you wanted to mince by"
My brother-in-law in the states came out of the closet after 5 years of me knowing him. He didn't want to tell us because he was worried that I would reject him. I'm a typical guy who used to play rugby at school and did 10 years of kick boxing. The first thing I did when I met him was give him a big hug & tell him that nothing has changed, he's still the same brother I love. My dad was more like this sketch.
Kick boxing is gay so why would you not want to hug the dude I don't get it
So funny. I've just realised who the actress that plays the mother is. She is Millicent in Call the Midwife. Thanks for the reaction . You can't beat British humour 🤣
Good spot, Deidre....best wishes from the land of the scousers...
There's another sketch featuring the homophobic dad set at Christmas. It's just as funny as this one. You might like to react to the "I Saw You Coming" sketches, also featuring Harry Enfield.
I've always loved harry Enfield this sketch is so funny no malice just funny. We haven't got much to laugh about nowadays. To all the LGBTQ out there it's just jokes.
I'm gay and this fucking hilarious haha
Great choice! I'm so glad you did this one and enjoyed it! There is another sketch with the dad that follows, he takes his son and friend to the local pub and gets worried when they go to the toilet together. Harry Enfield is hilarious, I would recommend more of his show, Dick Emery was also another great British Comedian, 'Dick Emery, The Driving Test - Full Version' is a good sketch to check out and react too.
Love Harry Enfield absolute comedy genius. there's a bit more to this sketch when they go for a pint in the pub it's hilarious. There's nothing made like this these days they probably couldn't air some of it. You should watch some full episodes of Harry Enfield And Chums
I remember watching this on tv back in the 90s ,couldn’t get away with those kind of jokes these days 😂😂
Another great reaction video. This was a classic sketch years ago. With love from London 🇬🇧
This and the Catherine Tate skit “Gay Son” played every year at our Pride party. Absolutely hilarious.
You should watch the Chumley Warner and Mr Grayson retro sketches...these are brilliantly created by Harry Enfield and his cast
I just love your laugh, I hunt down your channel every time I'm down 'cos you are such a wonderful tonic for me - much luv n hugs from the UK
Harry Enfield is brilliant. His series, Harry Enfield and chums was hilarious.
I always thought this sketch was quite sweet in a way because he is obviously homophobic but he loves his son so much he's trying hard to move past it.
Oh I've missed this. Loooove British comedy. 😅😅🤣🤣😂😂
Wonderful, so nice to see some proper comedy again - and the fact it made you laugh was wonderful. Too many do good'ers getting things like this cancelled these days. Shame we have lost this style of humour.
Haha although I laughed at the sketch, I was laughing so hard at your laugh too! It's too good 🤣
you must have found the edited version, after dinner they go to the pub and it continues :)
This was funny when I first watched it many years ago. But watching it with you it was even funnier.
His Les the forgetful landlord and George Whitebread the Yorkshireman sketches are really funny.
There is a second part to this sketch, when the three men go to the pub after dinner.
It gets better and better,my friend.
I see at the very end you have Harry Enfield : "Women KNow Your Limits" which is a must see and part of a few similar clips about Women.
Then you have his other characters like THe South African Chemist. Various series like "Harry And Chums" and " Harry And Paul" with another excellent comedian:Paul Whitehouse.
There are a series of clips as Harry and a Lady as "The Americans" which is hilarious.
It's called 'English humour'
And we love it
I watched Harry Enfield since I was a kid this bloke is a living legend in the comic sketch world in the uk.. u need to look on to his and his companions work alot more
I've been accused of this Homophobia, and I've explained that that the word Homo relates to Homo sapiens, (Latin: “wise man”) the species to which all modern human beings belong. Homo ( Man ) Erectus ( Upright ) is human-like body proportions and upright stance. Not a man with a hard on.
I tell them Homo is a word for Man, and I don't have a problem with men, so stop saying I'm Homophobic please.
But they seem puzzled by this, I explain is I don't want to speak or be around Homo sexuals, that's my choice, I'm entitled as a human being to choose the people I associate with, and those I dont.
Imagine how many Dads kept their foot out of their mouths thanks to this, how many conversations were had between parents on the back of it. British comedy is so bloody relatable, in general.
The other half of the sketch is missing, that's the funniest bit.
It was cut short, they go down the pub after dinner
Miss this program!
You need to do Harry Enfield's South African Pharmacist Compilation
Harry E, pure GENIUS! The Man is HILARIOUS!
your loud laugh makes me laugh loud bro. . and this early in the morning in this house wakes up the grumpy ones 😅
nice as a Brit to see others enjoying what we had the pleasure to grow up on
Had the pleasure of bumping in to the legend that is Paul Whitehouse
"you don't want to be doing it like that!!!" (from another of Harry's characters)
The actor playing Dominic has been in many action stuff... AVP, Black Hawk Down, Band Of Brothers, Trainspotting...Plays an American rather well.
Your reactions continue to be priceless, keep up the good work and never ever lose that great laugh.
They missed the best line “I thought you said you wanted to mince by” or was that in a other sketch?
Yeah that was the Xmas special
@@flucazade Harry had to do 20 takes of that and still couldn’t keep a straight face when delivering that live
*Harry Enfield - Naughty Harry and Lulu* 9 minutes of genius characters which are based on Harry's former step children who are, the singer *Lily Allen,* and the actor *Alfie Allen* from *Game of Thrones.*
The guy that plays Dominic is the guy out of Black Hawk Down that lost his hearing in the firefight.
Hilarious, watch the movie Kevin and Perry go large it's comedy gold 😂😂
The acting of the others is superb. Totally realistic.
Most British humour seems to revolve around awkwardness about sex, race/nationality or social class
British humour is now dead. For example, Little Britain ran from 2003 to 2007 and was acceptable then but has now been banned and taken down by the BBC. So what has changed? for me it was the rise of social media and smartphones and it has snowballed progressively from around 2015 to where we are now. What is quite acceptable now will be banned in ten years time and on it goes.
Bit of a generalisation. There's so much more to it. Dry sarcasm often goes over non brits heads.
The son's boyfriend is played by a brilliant Scottish actor, Ewen Bremner. Most famous for Spud in Trainspotting.
Great reaction, made my day, hadn't seen this before. Cheers EB 🤣
I don't think Dad is homophobic, he's just completely out of his depth but he means well really.
Harry did another one, set at Christmas I believe? The mince pie/mince by bit was hilarious.
More laughs in this one sketch than all the series of friends.
This is classic....not too sure if they'd get away with putting this on TV these days...far too many sensitive people about...
Love and peace from the UK. I remember when this episode was aired. Still hilarious! By the way, love your laugh!
Im not gay my boyfriend is. We need this kind humor back and not being afraid to joke about such topics
You really need to see the bit where they exchange christmas presents and the dad gets some aftershave.
You should watch Tracy Ullman impersonating Nicola Sturgeon.
Watch the later skit of this where they go out in his sons BMW - leather seats, they're easy to wipedown etc 🤣
Harry Enfield was in th sitcom Men Behaving Badly with Martine Clunes but he left to do his own show and he was replaced by Neil Morrissey,
As I recall you watched a little of "Bottom" a while ago... Maybe check out the LIVE shows of "Bottom".....Great fun!.... I was lucky enough to see all of the LIVE shows.....sides ached for days after.
Wow! Remember this skit well but just realized the boyfriend is Spud from Trainspotting!!
Your reaction videos always make me laugh.
Watch the one where they go to the pub…brilliant
Check out the Harry Enfield sketch "Laurel & Hardy in 'Brokeback Mountain' ". It's one of the funniest clips he has ever done!
Harry was a genius
When you said was, I thought you meant he had passed away.
@@S1RD2 Yeah, the word "was" was a bit harsh haha
To the bearded guy - You should react to Basil Brush. His laugh is identical to yours.
Love this bit, and there is another bit of this sketch at the pub 🤘🇬🇧🤘
The homophobic dad on the Christmas special episode is hilarious too where they're handing out gifts
there's a longer version of this where it continues with him taking them to the pub.
I used to wait in on thursday night to watched this show religiously back in the early 90s. Most of his sketches wouldnt get any playtime now as the pc brigade would be up in arms. i loved the 70s 80s and 90s even though most had feck all we had great music comedy sports and it seemed we had more freedoms too. Maybe thats just me. Slainte from ireland thank you for time and effort and for you bringing back so many good memories for me.
Do you know, I’ve never actually seen this before-must have missed it. Love Harry Enfield though.
So I just watched this clip for the first time and nearly fell out of my armchair!!
your laugh is fucking brilliant haha never change
I don't think he is homophobic. I think he is just from another generation when these things were not talked about as much.
The title is wrong. He's not homophobic, he's simply applying all the old standards of how gays were perceived at that time - that's not the same thing at all.
Sadly a distinction lost on most people these days. Everything has to be black or white.
@@bensmith1689 tisk tisk, you can't say the "B" word... /tic
He clearly shows phobia in this video.
It would never be shown today on British TV. The fact that it’s hilariously funny counts for nothing.
I saw this on UK Gold just the other day.
@@paulhollett7183 I’m surprised, perhaps I should have said BBC. It certainly wouldn’t be made today.
Love the stuff you watch, specially open all hours! So old now, funniest line I remember was Arkwright ordering Bath bun” I’ll have a DER, DER, dozen, don’t be giving me 3 dozen like you did last week!😂😂weird to see a young Del Boy from fools & horses as nephew😉
Love your laugh!!
This guy is talented & funny. Our worst nightmare, far too many parents like this if they were honest, can’t help it just the way they were brought up!!😉
I'm from the UK and remember this show and others like little Britain, but unfortunately you won't see these on British TV now due to cancel culture. To many snow flakes looking for things to be offended by.
out of all the 4 people in the room, the dad is the only one who is acting naturally in that particular situaton.
Brilliant sketch please do more of this
Much love from Leicester, England 🏴

British comedy. Best in the World. Period.😏🇬🇧🇬🇧
That's no even the full sketch man. They go to the pub aswell. U need to find that n put up an extended version
there's more to that skit , it continues in the pub x
The NEW British Empire. Comedy.
My dad was a bit like that. It is actually good to laugh at unfounded biases that people had.
The actor playing Dominik was one of the drug addicts in TRAINSPOTTING.
Hahahahahahaha..... Only in Britain could they get away with humor like this.
When comedy was funny
You need to see the full version of the sketch - this has been cut short
Man...the American guy....just move to England.this is real.our humour is very....different!!great to hear the American laugh like that,he's got a wicked laugh.
Good classic old Enfield. You won't get shit like this these days, good to see an American enjoying it too.
