A lot of people are talking about building concrete houses like the rest of the World. But little do they know there is one main factor they are not allowed this in California: EARTHQUAKES
My home in Japan is made of concrete (including a flat concrete roof) and meets high standards that are required here due to earthquakes. I've experienced several typhoons/hurricanes as well w/ no damage to the house. The only downside is the aesthetics. It's not nearly as charming as those beautiful homes in California.
Concrete Structures are “allowed” in California. They just have to meet Code, which makes for a very expensive proposition if you want to build a Residence to live in and not a Commercial Building to rent out.
Didn't this fire weed out the most at risk ? Pretty sure new houses will be more fire resistant and even pricier , case in point my home in the foothills has to have Fire Sprinklers that were not required just a few years ago. Does not every area have a Hazard that can happen ? What about all the Tornados in the Midwest , rebuild stronger but you can't make a Home cost 2m because of every possible Hazard. Case in point , is your home ready if Yellowstone blows? .
Corporations will buy up and develop the entire waterfront area and develop it like the “Mega City Miami - Metropolis” with condos, resorts, hotels, shopping malls, restaurants, high speed rail and a few overpriced smaller homes surrounding the “new” California city.
You obviously aren’t familiar with the California coastal commission and the NIMBYs all over. I’m up the coast in Oxnard Channel Islands Harbor and they’ve been talking for the 12 years I’ve been here on how they’re going to redevelop their fisherman’s wharf area and still to this day have a big empty lot there.
Few will acknowledge that California laws and regulations require the government and administrators to perform routine, effective, and scientifically supported forest floor management... The laws and regulations state clearly how the process is to be conducted. The methods and measures are effective and produce the result of slowing and stopping the spread of forest fires and wildfires. The government officials and administrators would gladly carry out their duties, but every time they go about to perform the tasks related to forest management, they are sued and taken to court by environmental groups that prevent effective forest management strategies from being put into effect. At present, there are hundreds of court cases that hold up government officials and administrators from performing their legal and regulatory duties. This crisis lies squarely at the feet of radical environmentalists.
These houses cost millions but were built using cheapest low quality materials. The building companies should be suied for endangering health and safety of the residents. The laws should protect the citizens, the government should enforce more strict building standards.
These houses didn't "cost" millions. They increased in value (value=the amount someone is willing to pay), until they were totally overvalued. Now they are worth nothing, lol. The only value left is the land.
I’m a Real Estate Agent in Los Angeles. There’s no way those homes in the hill will be higher in cost. It will be drastically cheaper. It won’t ever be cheap, but the price will dip all across the city.
@@midnight.amethyst … there’s no way it’s going to be higher than what it was. It is not as high of demand or as prime as it once was. If it was selling for 15 million before, it will be around 12 million if it’s similarly rebuilt, even with more modern enhancements. People were already not rushing to buy them before because of the price. So you think this situation makes them want to buy it now🤣?
Most people will not buy there as fire will always be a risk and also insurance premiums will be crazy. Only super rich who have tons of money will build there.
Buckle up. You're in for a long ride, folks. As a community, the people living in this area didn't seem to care about the competency of the people they were electing. They're still going to vote for the same bunch of people again putting their moral vanity above things like running their state. So no, I don't give a crap about these sob stories that were a long time coming. The chickens are coming home to roost.
The samething happened after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf coast. The insurance skyrocketed, people couldn't find any place to rent, If you tried to buy a house it was sold for way above what the appraisal price was, you could purchase lots for for hardly anything. Building materials were hard to get. New building codes were upgraded. Now it's 20 years later and it will Never be the same.
I know if it was me I would clear my property use my garage pad and driveway to put a nice fifth wheel RV to be able to stay on my property while I rebuild. If code enforcement said anything to me, I wish them the best of luck.
You would be surrounded by toxic dust, burned trees and houses, toxic water and no utilities. You’ll get cancer before you’ll get a build permit, and there will be another fire by then. You think you’re going to be able to find a construction crew to build when Trump wants to deport all the construction workers that would do this dirty cleanup?
Darren, with all due respect, the '10,000 homes' number in your title is incorrect. Reports that refer to "10,000 structures," include things such as sheds, ADU's, garages, and yes, even "cars" (this was verified by the government agency that posted the numbers) . . . Using a Map, I "hand counted" the houses near the "Palisades Village," and there are 400 to 500 homes there (before the fire) . . . I saw a Fox 11 News report saying 5,000 structures were destroyed in Pacific Palisades, BUT only about 430 HOMES (that was from a reporter) . . . Based on that, I'm not buying the narrative that there are 10's of thousands of displaced people looking for housing. Just keeping it real.
Really? have you looked at the images - everyone I know in Los Angeles knows people who have lost their homes. I know over five people and I'm just one person. It's truly terrible. I live in LA.
@@bridiemacdonald9436 Thanks. The number of "430" was an estimate of the homes damaged near the Palisades village, and not necessarily in the surrounding mountains or Malibu. Also, that number does not include Altadena (40 miles away) . . . Just pointing out that "houses" damaged in the region may be 1000 to 2000 (my estimate, not official), but definitely nowhere near 10,000 homes . . . I live 7 miles south of Pacific Palisades, and the oddity to me is that TV is saying "LA is in flames," but everywhere I drive is "untouched" by the fire . . . Let me know if you find new information (just remember that "structures" does not equal houses)
Well CA expects federal bailouts after the fires, so why wouldn’t CA politicians inflate the damage reports to pressure FEMA and Congress for a bigger bailout? CA lies about everything else, starting with the climate change hoax, so why should they tell the truth now? The whole political class in CA is lying to gullible brainwashed liberals 24/7. The question is, how much farther can the Woke scam go while they’re burning down entire neighborhoods? Let’s just say it’s a bad look for eco scammers to melt thousands of homes and Teslas while the battery packs explode and flood the soil with battery acid…. While they claim to be “saving the environment.”

So many big fires have ripped through areas. NOTHING like this has happened in that time. I doubt that California will ever recover from this. The government is broke already and the building permits in California are years behind. There is a major backlog on permits to even start construction in L.A. County. Permits take years out there
Is this so property developers buy up cheap land?? Was this planned by the government???? And the terrain has always been dangerous and really the govt should have done more to prepare for fire. Mel Gibson thinks its suspiscious. And if the insurance company think it was by arson they can refuse payment until the arsonist is convicted. Can you imagine the law suits?? And going ahead only the super rich will afford to live here. But one would be mad to rebuild in the mountains. This will become a smart city only for the super rich. Who started these fires????
California is having massive fires and droughts. Areas of the SW will become to hot to live in. The east and gulf coasts, especially Florida, will get more and more hurricanes. Volatile weather and flooding is happening everywhere and is largely unpredictable. And this is just the beginning. I don’t know if building codes can stand up to nature. What about not building in risky areas anymore? In an era of intense climate change, we need to rethink how and where we live.
You would think that the California Governor and Mayor would have prepared the City for these events. Insurance companies are familiar with the potential dangers of these massive fires in LA.
The Level of this Disaster is immeasurable. People losing their homes absolutely crushes my soul. Sadly, Our country is in complete DENIAL about how horrible things are. Homes are so expensive, Yet Our country has NO SYSTEM when someone loses their home.. This corruption will DESTROY our country. Our country lacks sympathy. We gotta take better care of our own people. Honestly, how are people supposed to recover from Disaster events like these? We are seeing insurance companies fail us, we are seeing our government fail us. Most people are struggling to afford basic living. Then these disasters show up & they just destroy peoples homes. Our country is completely unable to handle this kind of stuff. Our country is failing these people. How does our country expect people to rebuild a second house when affording the first house was already a life long challenge.. How can our country keep functioning like this? Our country is completely out of touch with the reality of the impacts from these disasters. How will our society, our economy, our local & federal governments, How will all of these systems continue to function? How will our country be able to handle all of this stuff? We have to adapt. We have to.
Housing prices will be driven up? Are you nuts? Unless you’re paying cash for your rebuild, you’re not getting a mortgage. No insurance company will touch you. Maybe you shouldn’t try terraforming a desert and instead try living in a more habitable part of the country.
Even those lots reduced to burnt rubble are still worth more than most houses in the USA. I might be one of the few who doesn’t feel too sorry for these people. Apart from the tragic cases where lives were lost or someone lost their primary possession, most of them are so wealthy that this won’t significantly impact their lives. Meanwhile, I can’t even afford the cheapest home in LA. And now, the wealthy residents from the hills will only add more pressure to an already strained real estate market across the city.

It's time for angelinos to learn that fable. I love your videos, I'm a subscriber for years here and on your main channel, and I'm really sad about what happened.
This is why our constructions are mostly made of brics, stones and mortar, it's fire proof, bullet proof, avoiding pine or resinous lumber at all cost, too much flammable, and we keep distances between houses for insurance compliance
I live in a low risk area, wonder how this will affect my premium. I am locked in with the property taxes so that won't go up any faster. Don't plan on selling with locked in low interest rate as well, but I could move out and rent it for a decent amount. And it's not price gouging as I don't have any pre-fire rent history so I believe I can set the price however I want. Rent increases into the future will depend on how far out we are from this event, I believe it's 6 months to a year that the price gouging of raising rent more than 10% isn't allowed but after that you can raise the rent more on any single family home. It's only multi-family that has statewide rent control now for a number of years for existing tenants.
State Farm 69% of Palisades area policies were cancelled last year-They knew a catastrophic fire was imminent! Why didn’t the mayor or fire chief know!! Because their DEI = Do Expect Incompetence OR Don’t Expect Intelligence!!😂😢
If you have lived in the rich area, say before 1976, you have a small property tax and the increases are limited by law. Moreover, if you move to an expensive home, you can carry the existing property tax with you. I live a few miles from the fire. The new houses in the neighborhood are $4-$7 million. An old couple moves from the rich area and sells the existing house for $15 million and gets a new house for $5 million and has a property tax of only $1000. I live on such a block. If you bought the newly constructed house on the block which is listed for $6.4 million, you would pay about $75k a year in property taxes. But a person moving from Brentwood pays about $1000. I pay about $3000 and have lived on the block for 45 years. The bidding war just started this weekend.
Its a natural disaster the fire was uncontrollable anyway do to the 100mile/H wind, helicopters could not fly in those conditions. So we were limited to firefighter little hose. Electric posts had to be shutdown due to fire hazard risk. The entire area was a fire fuel zone, with dry vegetation and the wooden houses. Even with the entire firefighters of the country it sill wasn't possible to be stopped. The main issue is the capitalism that allowed the City to sold a multitude of lands knowing that is was in a zoning prone to wildfire, and its also the insurances fault for allowing real estate pricy loans to be validate knowing that they won't be able to cover everyone under their policy. The money and official greed and bribes gave rich people access to a none constructible zone

Water comes forward as a major reason for lack of initial containment of the fire. As I looked into the use of water supply in Los Angeles, it became apparent that water has been an issue for a long time. While there are many water issues, one of the most significant problems is the Colorado River. It is drying up. 5 states and Mexico use that water. Every state has taken a piece of it. California agriculture uses an excessive amount of water almost without limits. The huge population of Southern California cannot be sustained on the amount of water availability. The military requires water to sustain its defense capabilities and are ever expanding as a result of world pressures. The size of farms and the kinds of crops use large amounts of water. Sea water can be used for many things that fresh water is now used for. Global competition generates high levels of water use that is unsustainable. Cow feed growth takes much water. AZ use of canals uses large amounts of the Colorado River. This problem has been ignored a long time. Water is necessary to sustain life and there is not enough to go around.
If you donate money, choose one that is based in a known church, and before you send one penny, get a sense of whether the organization is doing work for the community. Find pastors who know them and can attest to their integrity. If it is being managed by the elders of the church instead of the pastor by himself. One man can be turned, the deacons and elders are less likely.
Let’s face it, the scrub brush in California is extremely flammable. This includes oak trees as well. The further away you are the better. Why wasn’t a fire break constructed along the perimeter of the community?

People were already not rushing to buy them before because of the price. So you think this situation makes them want to buy it now🤣?

The Campfire happened in Nov 2018. The areas of Paradise and Magalia still has many properties not rebuilt on. And promises were broken when it comes to reimbursements.
We have to.

Imagine how hard , it will to get insurance in future

@@michaelWells-ef9bx dum AZ, Santa Ana winds have been around forever and can be forecasted...where was the planning all these decades under Dem control? Got it dum AZ???
