    Pronounced "say-bo" because the T is silent. Like how the last C is silent in Leclerc

      That is correct. My apologies to all those who have commented on this, thank you for the correction. I would update the audio track but You tube doesn't allow this, so I pinned the correction. For those who know French, Sabot the "T" is silent as well. Thank you.

      Most of the MBT fire APFSDS on smoothbore barrels because the rifled could decrease the velocity.

    Another countermeasure is seen on the Turret front of the Leopard 2 since the A5 model. Armor spaced away from the main armor at a distance longer than the Darts fired will induce tumbling of the dart after it has fully cleared the spaced armor. Makes it hit the main armor sideways completely neutralizing it in best case scenarios but reduces Armor penetration significantly in general.

    • @hazardous458
      @hazardous458 4 года назад +2

      The arrowhead damages the round before impact of the main armor. That’s why it’s effective. The space doesn’t need to be longer than the dart, it only needs to be angled. The wedges can be countered with a round strong enough to resist shearing forces.

      The thing is, everyone here is wrong. Most armour piercing rounds are designed to cause shrapneling inside the tank. The actual rod usually isn't the thing doing the main damage, but the shrapnel that falls off the armour when the armour is penetrated. If you are in the way of all that glowing hot metal shrapnel, it'll probably have an impact of a huge shotgun blast.

Militaries have been experimenting with telescoped small arms ammo for a long time but haven't been able to get it good enough for adoption - I had thought the concept as a whole just had flaws that hadn't been worked out yet and didn't know the big boys with smooth bores have been using them for a long time.

    Explosive reactive armor is used to protect against HEAT rounds, by preventing the penetrating jet from forming. It has absolutely no effect on a sabot round, which will simply pass right through ERA without detonating it.

    • @alimplays334
      @alimplays334 Год назад +1

      No, No, The ERA effects both APFSDS and HEAT rounds. cause as soon as something hit ERA it explodes and send a plate outwards which either ruins the angle of a HEAT round which results in lesser penetration or for APFSDS it discombobulate APFSDS by ruining the angle of approach, so instead of nose of APFSDS hitting the armor, the side of APFSDS hits the armor resulting in lesser penetration. so, if the ERA is angled the more damage it prevents.

      Actually - the reason it isn't cleaned up is because the actual environmental/human hazards of the stuff means that it isn't worth the bother. The 'dangers' of staballoy (the trade name for the material) are hype made by people who don't have the first clue as to what they're talking about. And too lazy to even look up the MSDS. In an industrial setting the recommended safety procedures are: "Standard industrial hygiene measures." (Wash your hands before eating - for example.)
      It's primary effect on the human body is that of a heavy metal poison with effects similar to that of lead. Although it is much less dangerous than lead because the body does not easily absorb it when inhaled or eaten, and it literally passes through your digestive track and leaves your body when you take a dump.

      Yeah, DU isn't as bad as people make it out to be. the two ways in which it is deemed harmful is A) upon penetration, when the penetrator can shatter into dust which can then be breathed in and B) when Shells which have been shot into the ground corrode, though the consequences of that happening are negligible to unclear. Also keep in mind that in point A), Tungsten becomes just as harmful. DU wouldn't be used by at least 3 Major Nato countries if it were that obviously harmful.
