Oh wow. I was only 21 at that time. That trade Buffalo made for Peca and Wilson going the other way Almo. That will go down as a great deal for the Sabres later down the road. Gotta watch the rest of this. This is memory lane. Some of these players end up in the HOF. Wow. Ty for the upload :)
A young Jerome Iginla being drafted eleventh overall, who knew that he would go on to have such a great career,he didn't win a Stanley Cup but for sure he'll be in the Hockey Hall Of Fame,Jerome Iginla was a great goal scorer and a great all around hockey player.
58:52 - Teemu Rihjijarvi never played a minute of hockey on North American soil after this selection. Brings back memories though of my early days on the internet using internet relay chat I was apart of the #hockey chat room and we used Hockey League Simulator 2 to have a league for regulars in the room. I was awarded an expansion team and in my 1st draft I took Teemu Riihijarvi!

Fun fact : Winnipeg Jets were originally supposed to host this draft. But it was thought they’d leave and relocate to Minnesota so it was given to Edmonton to host. The Jets remained in Winnipeg after all for another season and moved to Phoenix in 1996
52:50 The best pick Stars have ever made since moving to Texas, without the help of a lottery win. Kinda speaks volumes about the organization's drafting in general....sadly.
You recall Winnipeg was originally supposed to host this draft, but with the uncertainty of their future in Winnipeg, they gave it to Edmonton last minute. I’m from Winnipeg. I was hoping to go to this draft.
Canucks gambled that the Bure-Mogilny chemistry from their history with USSR/Russia would re-kindle itself. They were wrong. Loved the trade at the time- people forget Mogilny scored 55 in his first season here- but looking back, it would have been nice to keep Peca and possibly pick Jay McKee or Petr Sykora at 14.
To those who think the Canucks are the only team that passes on local guys: Reminder here that Edmonton went with some guy named Steve Kelly with St. Albert boy Jarome Iginla sitting right there.
How awesome is it watching these old drafts knowing how the picks turn out?!
i was just thinking that
Funny to hear the commentary
I miss these Saturday daytime drafts. I remember watching this on espn2

Janet Sampson He had a great WJC just five months later. He totally tore it up.
The guy that scouted him
Watching demers flip through the book, is kind of sad now. Crazy he earned a cup.
Steve Kelly had a lot of hype behind him, but never appeared in more than 43 games in his NHL career.

When they cant find a goal in his highlight…
Edmonton completely blew their 1st round pick that year.
Awful evaluating
@@oilersridersbluejays rumour has it they'd go on to win the draft lottery about fourteen times in the next 20-25 years.
Holy Shit...Bettman didnt get boo'ed
....surprising given the lockout the season before
I think his negative reputation wouldn't start until a few years later.
Once teams like Quebec, Winnipeg, and Hartford started moving was then the booing began.
8:35 - 6 months later Bryan Berard requests a trade out of Ottawa.
So weird to hear fans cheering Gary Bettman

Dianetics commercial out of no where. Did I ever enjoy that
90s baby
The look on Brain Berards mothers face when he was selected kind of says it all to Brains excitement to join Ottawa :/ haha
Just curious anymore drafts? Thanks for posting these as well as the recent RHI game - love this stuff - Thanks again!
I was at the2000 one in CGY…when Gaborik goes at 3rd to MIN, you can hear my family screaming up in the upper deck
I could watch all these

I can’t believe Edmonton selected Steve Kelly instead of Shane Doan.
Sather awful drafter
Almost a bit of foreshadowing as Hartford walked to the podium to select Giguere, and you see the Ducks table.
33:00 - I remember when the Winnipeg Jets took Shane Doan. I was so excited about the Jets taking him.
You recall Winnipeg was originally supposed to host this draft, but with the uncertainty of their future in Winnipeg, they gave it to Edmonton last minute. I’m from Winnipeg. I was hoping to go to this draft.
LMAO, 28:24 the edmonton fans yelling for Doan, and they still could have had him
Yeah, instead they select Steve Kelly 🤷
Fans know who can play. Sather stunk.
Holy fuck, a scientology commercial for Dyanetics!
The Oilers not picking Doan is just such an Oilers thing to do
Terrible move. Like Steve Kelly? Really?
Sather couldn't draft
JS Giguere ended up as the best goaltender in the draft.
lmao Shane Doan is so pure
Guy never aged.
Fundamentalist think teams passed because of that?
everybody missed on my favourite player ..Petr Sykora ..,but I guess it was good for him ...
Toronto with the best pick in the draft
lol
Nice franchise pick LA!
McMaster the Disaster.
Awful GMs in the league at this time

aki berg!!!
Back when goat was a bad thing. Plus the take on the islanders jersey
Bobby Margarita in his prime
the birth of the A-line.
Not a very good draft.
Better than a few.
Teddy Hitchcock!
Doaner!
Terrible trade by Buffalo. But even so Mogilny didn't wanna play for Buffalo and lost a really good player.
brian who??? lol
Berard he got that eye injury
Only if the Kings knew then he was gonna be a bust. He was not well received in Toronto.
Ware could do everything except play hockey
Leafs going to Leaf
