Your really good at selling books very quickly. I really liked the very short and encouraging review, it was refreshing !

From your description The Martian is a combination of "classic" and modern science fiction, with an emphasis on science. The early novels had piles of calculations about space, orbits, and so on. Nerds exchanged letters arguing about the validity of this or that device. But they completely lacked (and yes I've read some) any kind of character development or interest. They were always about Captain Biff Spacey the perfect human being. this clearly isn't. I am sorry to hear that it's got some of the dudebro stuff in it that I'm sooooo tired of in a lot of fiction. But thanks to this review I'll definitely give it a look.

Yes, I think it's just so and you'll enjoy it. I honestly wouldn't have noticed the dudebro stuff except that I talked to a couple women who had read it and they all pointed out the same issues, so I thought that important to mention. One thing I didn't mention was that it's first person, which bothers some people, but I thought it was fine because the character's voice was so light and charming.
