started ffxiv just to play this raid since taro said it was dlc. turns out the ffxiv story is insanely good and definitely worth playing through. especially shadowbringers / endwalker

The 2B and 9S that appear on the First are actually copies. A data log from Konogg says that the real 2B and 9S encountered the Seed and copied their data into it, hoping to infect it as some form of virus that could help destroy it. Given that their efforts are what presumably caused it to create a copy of Anogg, 2B, and 9S, we can say they guessed correctly.
@@YassineFarah2423 well, no, the Logic Virus already existed. And we never see Anogg, 2B, or 9S show a case of Red Eyes. Don't think the Logic Virus is at work there.
Thanks for the support! Luckily I was already a FF14 player because I can't imagine someone playing through FF14 all the way to level 80 just for the Nier stuff. This way no one has to miss out though!
Not being into Final Fantasy would be a totally different story, but not being "into mmos" is not a reason not to play FFXIV. Sure you have to do *some* content with other players. (automatically matched together, not even actually need to interact with others) But 90% of the main-story is absolutely just a series of single palyer games within the frame of an MMO. And while Heavensward (the second game) was the best Final Fantasy since the golden age in the 90s and fit nicely somewhere between FFVII and FFIX, Shadowbringers is hands down the best game in the whole franchise even. The quality of its story is on the same level with the likes of the Nier series. And you get enough EXP from the main quest alone to level up all the way to max level. So there is literally no grinding required to get through the main story. There is one big drawback though: You have to get through A Realm Reborn to get to the good parts, which was okay at its time, considering it was made an MMO made in two years, which saved the entire franchise and all. But its a bit tedious and hard to get through. I always suggest skipping everything that's not a cutscene and just read the important parts. Everything from lvl 1 to 60 is free, which includes both A Realm Reborn and Heavensward, which takes the whole story stuff from 20 up to 100 real fast. So there is really no reason not to try it.
@@CycloneFox they have a perfectly good reason not to play FF14; they said they don't do MMOs. Noone should have to suffer through boring Realms Reborn, which is COUNTLESS hours, to access the actually fun content, just because someone can't handle you saying you don't play MMOs.
I am not into MMOs either so I feel the need to inform you that ffxiv provides arguably the best final fantasy rpg experience. Best part is the story, characters, narrative and emotional and minblowing punches you will experience along the way. If you can spare the time, its worth to jump into it. You can ignore the mmo aspect, only except from when you queue for story dungeons. Even then from 70+ you can do them with npcs, in typical rpg fashion.
@@Danny-mg1hu tecnicaly they are all copies, when 2b is destroyed and gets into a new body, her mind/memories are just copied from the bunker to a totally new body. 9s died plenty of times killed 2B before he updates his memories at the bunker with the knowledge humanity does not exist. all u need is to put those memories in any vessel and u have a new one. *** spoilers for nier automata *** i always though this events happen by the arc, which contained a copy of the date/memories of 2B, 9S, adam/eve, landed on the planet and created these 2B and 9S, while the Pods still created another copie of them in earth, the bunker is gone so the pods are also using the data they gone to recreate them in their likeness because the original data is lost as the bunker exploded also, yoko taro considers everything cannon XD, so its not farfetch the endings D and E both happen
The part that got me the most was how Anogg and Konogg both have the same hair color as Devola and Popola. If this is more than just an homage, would this mean that they are both Devola and Popola android variants?
Re: your first theory I don't think Dark Apocalypse contradicts Automata's Ending E at all. If we follow the theory that the characters in Dark Apocalypse are copies created from a Seed found in the Ark, then that would mean Dark Apocalypse follows ending D, not E. After all, the Ark only fires off in ending D. it never happens in ending C, and in ending E, the event (by my understanding) gets retroactively cancelled. even if the Ark DOES fire in ending E, then it would be as you said, that the personality and memory data of the characters was copied into the Ark, not moved over entirely.
correct me if i’m wrong, but if my memory is correct, the automata concert that goes more into detail on the events after ending e confirms that the ark did go off in ending e, but the pods were still somehow able to repair and reactivate 2B and 9S.
@@chiyuki6095 You are correct, the battle with the end credits is to stop them from being collected/turned off as the ark left & all hope for 2B and 9S would be lost. So they hack the credit sequence and stop the game from ending - greatest meta move ever

One of my biggest points of confusion is that these facilities were here for a good while. How did Emet-Selch and Elidibus not get involved prior to us even arriving on The First? Would the destruction caused by the Machines/Intoner (and Watchers) have accomplished a calamity on The Source as they had intended to use the Sin Eaters for? Yoko Taro actually makes me into a crazy conspiracy person with his worlds and lore and I hate it, but I also love it.
A) Emet-Selch after establishing Vauthry hasn't really been involved with the First. He was set on retiring to nap for an era after orchestrating Dalamund...until the Lahabrea was killed and the Scions arrived on the First...and Elidibus said "nope mate, I need you to take care of them" B) Kinda one of the great flaws of the Unsundered (Emet-Selch, Lahabrea, Elidibus) is how their semi-immortality and growing madness (melancholy, mania, and dementia respectively) led to a neglect in oversight of members of the Sundered convocation. Like, they left Mitron to stew in pain and madness as the first sin eater for a century, and didn't think a moment about the problem that was Fandaniel. C) So, yeah, they could definitely miss something alien showing up in the last century that could've turned the First into another 13th.

In Automata and 1.3a stage play, it's comformed that Accord is in the resistance meaning Accord models are able to travel to multiverse as well, does that mean that somehow Accord following this seed?
She could very well be following the seed. We know that she was built in the kingdom of night in Nier's timeline and that she's trying to stop an apocalypse that would cause every separate timeline to collapse in on itself. The seed could be part of that.
We know that there is more than 1 Accord. Since she has been added in Nier Replicant where Yonah writes about her. Implying, that she still important to the story even after Drakengard 3 story ended.
Over the course of Automata when you die, you just emerge from the last checkpoint. That means a new iteration of you is generated when you die, and because of this there can be many iterations of the same android. I wouldn't be surprised if all androids are initially from just one or two individuals (like the 2B and 9S lookalike kids in the new Nier Replicant game), but over the years and many copies all develop new personalities based on their experience. Also thank you for making this, I've been looking for something like this since I don't feel like getting subscribed and playing almost 10 years of FF14 content to know the story.
2B is actually created base on A2. And there are some theories that yorha battle androids all based from Kaine in the replicant since in the ending e her battle data got saved

Thank you for the summary! The most recent ending in patch 5.55 left a lot of people confused including myself. I've never played Nier/Drakengard series but enjoyed watching those lore videos. Actually I do have a theory. What if Yoko Taro himself is the 'God' implied in the Drakengard series? The 'God' that sends SOD everywhere and intends to destroy the worlds of his own creation. That would explain him joking about destroying the Final Fantasy XIV world multiple times on camera and the white orb appearing here.
Did you know in Nier automata you could fight the CEO of Equare Enix as an Extra boss? That was a joke for him towards Square Enix for making him absence from Drakengard's project 😂 sure he likes destroying things.
theres definitely a lot to unpack from the raid. what i feel like are a lot of unanswered questions. could be like yoko taro forgot or had a different vision initially (it WAS a long 6 or 7 months for patch 5.3) or it could really be a grand narrative being built if we were to involve stuff like the new replicant ending, automata, and even nier reincarnation at some point. but i mainly wanted to call attention to the two theories mentioned about the SoD. it could very well be the first theory, since 9S is not won’t to save copies of his comrades (ala the stage play/yorha boys book + automata) plus it’d make more sense as to why 21O, 9S’ operator makes a small cameo. something like stuff being built from his memories. and if we were to consider similar aspects between 9S, the machine lifeforms datalogs, and by extension Konogg, it all points to loneliness. 9S always working alone and getting excited to work with 2B, the more than obvious tells that the machine lifeform data log gives, Konogg becoming a different person when faces the ugly truth about his sister, but a more interesting detail to add in this bunch is the hexadecimal code for the final boss in the second raid does translate to “longing” when you consider all that, the way Her Inflorescence is designed, of 2P/2B and N2. At least to me, looks like N2 is embracing 2P/B from behind, and 2P/B is looking to embrace others. just some food for thought. and it could very well be the second theory. i just remember reading somewhere that the SoD just appears when the world is on the brink of destruction. which makes a lot of sense considering what goes on in the First. This couldve just taken place in the Source, with Cid sinking his hands into yorha-type technology. But I’d like to think its on the First for a reason besides “shadowbringers content being in shadowbringers places” Not to mention the line “Let the light in!” N2 shouts before transforming is something that bugged me a lot when first playing. could be referencing he Firsts’ light. or was a concept that replicant/automata or drakengard dipped its toes into for a lil bit. i really dont remember but i kinda recall the “light” concept from somewhere within drakenier. at the end of the day i could be totally wrong, this is all MY conjecture as a dumb drakenier nerd :p i couldnt help but gush a lil on a great summary vid :)

As for the first theory (and something that folks have mentioned in the comments), p sure Taro likes to validate the existence of all possible endings therefore ending D and ending E both exist just in separate places, so the copied 2B and 9S probably went off to do their ffxiv thing while the ending e ones had their happy (or in the alternate ending, tragic ending). I think because Accord also records all potential timelines, the games themselves don’t want us to consider one ending more right than the other: they all exist, we just have to see which endings follow to which media etc Again, very good job!
It's wild that 'honest' Drakengard oldheads can soyjack point at a Seed of Destruction while having no idea what's going on in the third boss encounter in Puppet's Bunker.
Watch when 2B comes to Smash and the Smash universe 2B is canon to the series. 100 man brawl but everyone has red eyes, Final Smash Ball is actually a seed of destruction, Lips Stick is actually a fragment of the flower from Drakengard 3

One possibility of how the world's of Nier and Drakengard are connected to FFXIV's story and lore (let me know if this contradicts Drakengard lore, I'm not an expert) is that the worlds of Drakengard and Nier are 2 of the fragments that were split apart from the original world where the ascians come from. Specifically the 13th which itself fractured into two resulting in a 14th. Why those two? Because from what I understand of Drakengard lore there was a time split that resulted in two parallel worlds. One where history played out normally without magic, gods, or dragons (Nier's world). And another "which eventually came to be known as Midgard," and "was effectively created when, in AD 856 on the Iberian Peninsula, a great city appeared from the sky, along with mysterious beings known as dragons and Watchers." My theory is that the world of the 13th shard was split into two parallel worlds by this event, creating the 14th shard a.k.a the world of Drakengard. At one point in the Shadowbringers MSQ this split of the 13th was brought up (not sure on this part, do correct me if I am wrong). Seeing as how the Ascians and the WoL are capable of traveling to other shards, this could potentially shed light or explain other questions like: - How the city ended up in Midgard and where it came from - How Caim and Angelus were able to travel to Shinjuku when fighting a Watcher - Where Accord comes from - The true origins of the Dragons and the Watchers in Midgard But unless anyone would like my take on those topics, I'll leave things here. As someone who has been playing FFXIV and is now getting dragged into the Draken-nier universe..... this is much appreciated because I scene-skipped like crazy because I wanted to get to the new raids, and am only now making deep dives into the lore (as well as playing Replicant). Also playing the D3 Ending E song over the False Idol gave me chills :D I
In the ending E of replicant1.22, twin A.I said they hear a song before getting blasted by Kaine and Weiss. Song... a familiar word to Drakengard fans. Plus, their tech seems strangely familiar to alien tech from automata...... Perhaps, The SEED followed the QueenBeast to Nier world. Aliens, machines, androids and everything else are merely it's creation?
Intentional when you notice the way Kaine fights despite lacking magic in Route E of Replicant is like the androids, the Tower has P-Types turn into Shades in the digital space just as the Admins used Data versions of Shades Kaine completely knew she was in the wrong to kill(Except Hook),, and her theme plays againts the Final Boss Digital Hook. Aka Taro Yoko was referencing the game version of EndingE before we even got play it!

Well imo it all lines up with the last part of the collab. All the nier bosses popping up, then the last boss, imo, is referencing Kaine more than zero. Her Inflouresance as mention in the video means a stream of flowers. The only person we know to be connected with a stream of flowers...aka a necklace of lunar tears is Kaine. In fact you see that very necklace on the top of the final boss. I mean I guess that could reference zero as well but I always though that was a fusion of the false idol and 2b OR it was all just good fan service to get players ready for Nier Replicant that was to drop a few weeks after lol
That’s actually not true. There’s a lot there. It just doesn’t give you the conclusion on a silver platter and a bunch is open to interpretation. But between Konogg’s journey and his findings, Glagg’s unusual behavior, and Anogg’s unexpected return, there are a lot of puzzle pieces to work with.
IN Yoko Taro's usual fashion, he loves supplying questions that may not necessarily have answers, as well as answers to questions we don't even know to ask. I get the feeling Glagg's behavior and Anogg's return are somewhere in those. Glagg's behavior especially smells suspiciously like a setup for more content later.

As a ffxiv who has never played nier but wanted to know what this story was all about this was really helpful! All the ffxiv lore channels aren’t that great so this was refreshing
I... found this so confusing... Question: how does it fit the narrative that Annog returned? If everything seed-related had to die, why and how did "she" remain? And why was she an ally to begin with? ... Makes me wonder how far the control/influence of that seed is... Ah well, this is the only part of FF14 were I say "fights are fun, story... okay, who cares?" :D
I feel like it is a really big jump in logic to assume that the arc from automata had a seed of destruction on it but I guess there really isn't any other explanation because how else would it has gotten data from all of this yorha stuff. Plus the data logs directly state that 2B and 9S put their data inside of it as a way to make it replicate them at wherever he ended up so there would be a chance of destroying it.
I assume: the event of Dark Apocalypse in FF14 continued with the event of Nier Automata ending is leak into other universe? Remember in Nier Automata 9S is the latest!.. And sudden 2P shown up as new latest.. So, something that work out a New android.
I think Her Inflorence might be more related to Kaine than to Zero (since the Lunar Tear isn't positioned in her eye, but as a hair piece) and she has a collar of flowers hanging around her, just like the one Kaine's grandma gave her. Ending E from Nier Replicant Ver. 1.22 might have given us more clues as to who Kaine might be exactly (perhaps who she's a replicant from).
The machines goal is to destroy the enemy. Given that, they need androids to exist for them to have a purpose. That would be a justification for them to replicate 9S and 2B
Interesting in the FFXIV part of the Nier Raid specifically they refer to the Seed as a 'portal' as well, which we also see presumably the same Seed fall out of. Another interesting tidbit is they also tell us the Seed has its own 'network' and that the Copied 9S has supposedly interfaced with it at some point before the events of Dark Apocalypse. Which might explain some of the things that have been recreated is each seed, like the flowers on a single stem are connected have been recreated such as the Salt 'snow' or the bosses from Nier Replicant. Another interesting tidbit is Dark Apocalypse presents the data space as an actual physical place you could traverse to if you had the proper means, Anogg and Konogg bring attention to this during the Raid. Another interesting note that probably doesnt really have any relevance but is neat none the less is that the Watchers forcing a pact onto someone or creating Red Eyes is compared to Tempering within the FFXIV universe.
Sadly, I havent had the opportunity to play a lot of the Nier/drakengard games, though I have been interested in their lore. It's nice to finally piece together the connections they have to FFXIV though, and the video was awesome~ :^
Do you think there's a possible connection between how Primals "Temper" in the FF14 universe and the way that the Watchers control people with the Red Eye thing?
@@Xevolo Yeah, I believe they go over it in ARR. "Tempering" is actually the term used for when Ifrit brainwashes, because Ifrit is a fire Primal and "Tempering" is a term used for when you heat and cool metal repeatedly when making a sword. However, because Ifrit is the first Primal you face in FF14, "Tempering" kind of became the term associated with all Primals. Primals are basically a huge mass of energy (called Aether in FF14) that usually leans towards a specific element. Ifrit is fire Aether, Titan is earth Aether, Leviathan is water Aether, etc. When normal people are exposed to a mass of strong Aether like a Primal has, it basically leaves an "imprint" of the desires of the Primal on that person. In essence, it brainwashes them. Anyone who has been Tempered will be forced to follow the desires of the Primal, and even go about in resummoning the Primal if they get defeated. Emet-Selch mentions (in Shadowbringers in a side conversation if you talk to him outside of a cutscene) that Primals "dye" the souls of people with their Aether. If you go into the Sastasha (Hard) dungeon, you can see the effects of being Tempered by Leviathan on the pirates there. They end up taking more fish-like or aquatic-like features. While it's not always as clearcut with other Primals, it's still the same concept of the Primal's Aether directly affecting the Aether in the souls of others. It's also important to note that it doesn't matter how strong you are, you can still be Tempered. Tiamat is a member of the First Brood of dragons, arguably some of the strongest beings on the Source. However, she ended up Tempered by the Primal Bahamut when she got tricked into summoning it by the Ascians. And while Tiamat wasn't fully brainwashed, she still comments on how there is an underlying compulsion to resummon him that she can feel, which is part of the reason she willingly allowed herself to be imprisoned by the Allagan Empire. The only people who are immune to Tempering are those with the Echo. Given the revelations about the nature of Hydaelyn, Zodiark, and the Echo in Shadowbringers I'm not entirely sure what it is exactly right now. But the Echo is why our characters are relied on to handle Primals. We can kill them without fearing being Tempered. Without a group of strong people with the Echo, you basically would end up having to send in multiple waves of soldiers. The first wave would kill the summoners and begin fighting until they got Tempered, which is when you sent in the second wave. The second wave would kill the first wave and attack the Primal until they too got Tempered. You would continue with that patter until the Primal and all the Tempered soldiers were dead.
I dont think so. The seed has a connection to Drakengard series and the watchers cult. While the Ark was originally meant as artillery to destroy the human server on the moon. It was repurposed as an Ark after the collapse of the red girls on the Tower to travel with the memories (perhaps even the conciences/souls) of the Machines through the universe in search for a New World to live in. It is stated that the bloodlust of the Machines comes to a halt after the Ark is launched, hence they invite 9S in good faith to join them in their journey

I finally got around to doing the 3rd raid, and I was completely baffled. You've given me a lot to look into, how to I go about parsing all this information? Should I play the nier games? Is there a specific order for these? I'm so confused but intrigued at the same time lol. FFxiv is gonna be the death of me lol
As a big fan of the games I'm a bit biased but I would recommend playing the games if you have the ability to. For order I would say chronological is easiest, so Drakengard 3, then Drakengard 1, then Nier Replicant, then Nier Automata. Annoyingly though, the Drakengard games are stuck on the PS3 and haven't been brought to modern systems. If you don't have a PS3, then Nier Replicant and Automata are easily accessible on PC, PS4, Xbox One and are the best two games in the series in my opinion so you could just play those and supplement with the videos I made on the channel for missing information

I don't mean that the Seed originated from our reality, but that someone a Seed came to our reality from Drakengard and copied 2B and co. and then came to the Final Fantasy reality where 2P began her takeover. Drakengard -> Nier -> FF

Wouldn't called this canon since 2P only existed because of Soul Calibur 5 as a reverse 2 Player alternative, where 2P got the name from called by fans. Intentional or by accident, it was a clever name. Even if it is canon, it's retroactively inserted.
How much was Taro smoking before writing any of that? N2 being connected to the watchers isn't too far fetched because of the constant twin/watcher connection. But suddenly bringing back the SoD and using it as a major plot point seems more like fanservice instead of a thought out plan. I wouldn't be suprised if Taro ends up with humanity creating the SoD, dark flower, and somehow porting the capital city into the Drakengard world. The flower was guarded by an android after all.
I'm a big fan of Neir Automata but this was all so confusing... I'm not sure how canon any of it is supposedly to be or how it relates to any of the endings in Automata.

The 2B and 9S that appear on the First are actually copies. A data log from Konogg says that the real 2B and 9S encountered the Seed and copied their data into it, hoping to infect it as some form of virus that could help destroy it. Given that their efforts are what presumably caused it to create a copy of Anogg, 2B, and 9S, we can say they guessed correctly.
Sounds like they unintenionally might have created the Logic Virus.

Thanks for the support! Luckily I was already a FF14 player because I can't imagine someone playing through FF14 all the way to level 80 just for the Nier stuff. This way no one has to miss out though!
Not being into Final Fantasy would be a totally different story, but not being "into mmos" is not a reason not to play FFXIV. Sure you have to do *some* content with other players. (automatically matched together, not even actually need to interact with others) But 90% of the main-story is absolutely just a series of single palyer games within the frame of an MMO. And while Heavensward (the second game) was the best Final Fantasy since the golden age in the 90s and fit nicely somewhere between FFVII and FFIX, Shadowbringers is hands down the best game in the whole franchise even. The quality of its story is on the same level with the likes of the Nier series. And you get enough EXP from the main quest alone to level up all the way to max level. So there is literally no grinding required to get through the main story.
There is one big drawback though: You have to get through A Realm Reborn to get to the good parts, which was okay at its time, considering it was made an MMO made in two years, which saved the entire franchise and all. But its a bit tedious and hard to get through. I always suggest skipping everything that's not a cutscene and just read the important parts. Everything from lvl 1 to 60 is free, which includes both A Realm Reborn and Heavensward, which takes the whole story stuff from 20 up to 100 real fast. So there is really no reason not to try it.
@@CycloneFox they have a perfectly good reason not to play FF14; they said they don't do MMOs. Noone should have to suffer through boring Realms Reborn, which is COUNTLESS hours, to access the actually fun content, just because someone can't handle you saying you don't play MMOs.
I am not into MMOs either so I feel the need to inform you that ffxiv provides arguably the best final fantasy rpg experience. Best part is the story, characters, narrative and emotional and minblowing punches you will experience along the way. If you can spare the time, its worth to jump into it. You can ignore the mmo aspect, only except from when you queue for story dungeons. Even then from 70+ you can do them with npcs, in typical rpg fashion.

@@Danny-mg1hu tecnicaly they are all copies, when 2b is destroyed and gets into a new body, her mind/memories are just copied from the bunker to a totally new body. 9s died plenty of times killed 2B before he updates his memories at the bunker with the knowledge humanity does not exist.

i always though this events happen by the arc, which contained a copy of the date/memories of 2B, 9S, adam/eve, landed on the planet and created these 2B and 9S, while the Pods still created another copie of them in earth, the bunker is gone so the pods are also using the data they gone to recreate them in their likeness because the original data is lost as the bunker exploded
also, yoko taro considers everything cannon XD, so its not farfetch the endings D and E both happen

Re: your first theory
I don't think Dark Apocalypse contradicts Automata's Ending E at all. If we follow the theory that the characters in Dark Apocalypse are copies created from a Seed found in the Ark, then that would mean Dark Apocalypse follows ending D, not E. After all, the Ark only fires off in ending D. it never happens in ending C, and in ending E, the event (by my understanding) gets retroactively cancelled.
even if the Ark DOES fire in ending E, then it would be as you said, that the personality and memory data of the characters was copied into the Ark, not moved over entirely.
The battle with the credits in ending E was to my understanding the Pods refusing to allow 2B and 9S to die, thus they went in to save their data
correct me if i’m wrong, but if my memory is correct, the automata concert that goes more into detail on the events after ending e confirms that the ark did go off in ending e, but the pods were still somehow able to repair and reactivate 2B and 9S.

One of my biggest points of confusion is that these facilities were here for a good while. How did Emet-Selch and Elidibus not get involved prior to us even arriving on The First? Would the destruction caused by the Machines/Intoner (and Watchers) have accomplished a calamity on The Source as they had intended to use the Sin Eaters for?
Yoko Taro actually makes me into a crazy conspiracy person with his worlds and lore and I hate it, but I also love it.
A) Emet-Selch after establishing Vauthry hasn't really been involved with the First. He was set on retiring to nap for an era after orchestrating Dalamund...until the Lahabrea was killed and the Scions arrived on the First...and Elidibus said "nope mate, I need you to take care of them"
B) Kinda one of the great flaws of the Unsundered (Emet-Selch, Lahabrea, Elidibus) is how their semi-immortality and growing madness (melancholy, mania, and dementia respectively) led to a neglect in oversight of members of the Sundered convocation. Like, they left Mitron to stew in pain and madness as the first sin eater for a century, and didn't think a moment about the problem that was Fandaniel.
C) So, yeah, they could definitely miss something alien showing up in the last century that could've turned the First into another 13th.
Theres more in the data logs if you read those too, like the fact the Machine Lifeforms Servers are named after Gods.

In Automata and 1.3a stage play, it's comformed that Accord is in the resistance meaning Accord models are able to travel to multiverse as well, does that mean that somehow Accord following this seed?
She could very well be following the seed. We know that she was built in the kingdom of night in Nier's timeline and that she's trying to stop an apocalypse that would cause every separate timeline to collapse in on itself. The seed could be part of that.
We know that there is more than 1 Accord. Since she has been added in Nier Replicant where Yonah writes about her. Implying, that she still important to the story even after Drakengard 3 story ended.

Yoko Taro makes cool things, they don't always make sense of the where and why, but they are cool things.
Over the course of Automata when you die, you just emerge from the last checkpoint. That means a new iteration of you is generated when you die, and because of this there can be many iterations of the same android.
I wouldn't be surprised if all androids are initially from just one or two individuals (like the 2B and 9S lookalike kids in the new Nier Replicant game), but over the years and many copies all develop new personalities based on their experience.
Also thank you for making this, I've been looking for something like this since I don't feel like getting subscribed and playing almost 10 years of FF14 content to know the story.
2B is actually created base on A2. And there are some theories that yorha battle androids all based from Kaine in the replicant since in the ending e her battle data got saved

Thank you for the summary! The most recent ending in patch 5.55 left a lot of people confused including myself. I've never played Nier/Drakengard series but enjoyed watching those lore videos. Actually I do have a theory. What if Yoko Taro himself is the 'God' implied in the Drakengard series? The 'God' that sends SOD everywhere and intends to destroy the worlds of his own creation. That would explain him joking about destroying the Final Fantasy XIV world multiple times on camera and the white orb appearing here.
Did you know in Nier automata you could fight the CEO of Equare Enix as an Extra boss? That was a joke for him towards Square Enix for making him absence from Drakengard's project 😂 sure he likes destroying things.

theres definitely a lot to unpack from the raid. what i feel like are a lot of unanswered questions.
could be like yoko taro forgot or had a different vision initially (it WAS a long 6 or 7 months for patch 5.3) or it could really be a grand narrative being built if we were to involve stuff like the new replicant ending, automata, and even nier reincarnation at some point.
but i mainly wanted to call attention to the two theories mentioned about the SoD.
it could very well be the first theory, since 9S is not won’t to save copies of his comrades (ala the stage play/yorha boys book + automata) plus it’d make more sense as to why 21O, 9S’ operator makes a small cameo. something like stuff being built from his memories.
and if we were to consider similar aspects between 9S, the machine lifeforms datalogs, and by extension Konogg, it all points to loneliness.
9S always working alone and getting excited to work with 2B, the more than obvious tells that the machine lifeform data log gives, Konogg becoming a different person when faces the ugly truth about his sister, but a more interesting detail to add in this bunch is the hexadecimal code for the final boss in the second raid does translate to “longing”
when you consider all that, the way Her Inflorescence is designed, of 2P/2B and N2. At least to me, looks like N2 is embracing 2P/B from behind, and 2P/B is looking to embrace others.

As for the first theory (and something that folks have mentioned in the comments), p sure Taro likes to validate the existence of all possible endings therefore ending D and ending E both exist just in separate places, so the copied 2B and 9S probably went off to do their ffxiv thing while the ending e ones had their happy (or in the alternate ending, tragic ending). I think because Accord also records all potential timelines, the games themselves don’t want us to consider one ending more right than the other: they all exist, we just have to see which endings follow to which media etc

It's wild that 'honest' Drakengard oldheads can soyjack point at a Seed of Destruction while having no idea what's going on in the third boss encounter in Puppet's Bunker.
Watch when 2B comes to Smash and the Smash universe 2B is canon to the series. 100 man brawl but everyone has red eyes, Final Smash Ball is actually a seed of destruction, Lips Stick is actually a fragment of the flower from Drakengard 3

2. Are there any specific details that should be known to those who haven't played the crossover that fans of the DrakeNier universe should know about that weren't mentioned in the video?
3. I am officially considering FF XIV as part of the DrakeNier universe
One possibility of how the world's of Nier and Drakengard are connected to FFXIV's story and lore (let me know if this contradicts Drakengard lore, I'm not an expert) is that the worlds of Drakengard and Nier are 2 of the fragments that were split apart from the original world where the ascians come from. Specifically the 13th which itself fractured into two resulting in a 14th.
Why those two? Because from what I understand of Drakengard lore there was a time split that resulted in two parallel worlds. One where history played out normally without magic, gods, or dragons (Nier's world). And another "which eventually came to be known as Midgard," and "was effectively created when, in AD 856 on the Iberian Peninsula, a great city appeared from the sky, along with mysterious beings known as dragons and Watchers."
My theory is that the world of the 13th shard was split into two parallel worlds by this event, creating the 14th shard a.k.a the world of Drakengard. At one point in the Shadowbringers MSQ this split of the 13th was brought up (not sure on this part, do correct me if I am wrong).
Seeing as how the Ascians and the WoL are capable of traveling to other shards, this could potentially shed light or explain other questions like:
- How the city ended up in Midgard and where it came from
- How Caim and Angelus were able to travel to Shinjuku when fighting a Watcher
- Where Accord comes from
- The true origins of the Dragons and the Watchers in Midgard
But unless anyone would like my take on those topics, I'll leave things here. Also, if you've read this far, thanks for your time and attention. Feel

Intentional when you notice the way Kaine fights despite lacking magic in Route E of Replicant is like the androids, the Tower has P-Types turn into Shades in the digital space just as the Admins used Data versions of Shades Kaine completely knew she was in the wrong to kill(Except Hook),, and her theme plays againts the Final Boss Digital Hook.
Aka Taro Yoko was referencing the game version of EndingE before we even got play it!

Well imo it all lines up with the last part of the collab. All the nier bosses popping up, then the last boss, imo, is referencing Kaine more than zero. Her Inflouresance as mention in the video means a stream of flowers. The only person we know to be connected with a stream of flowers...aka a necklace of lunar tears is Kaine. In fact you see that very necklace on the top of the final boss. I mean I guess that could reference zero as well but I always though that was a fusion of the false idol and 2b

That’s actually not true. There’s a lot there. It just doesn’t give you the conclusion on a silver platter and a bunch is open to interpretation. But between Konogg’s journey and his findings, Glagg’s unusual behavior, and Anogg’s unexpected return, there are a lot of puzzle pieces to work with.
IN Yoko Taro's usual fashion, he loves supplying questions that may not necessarily have answers, as well as answers to questions we don't even know to ask. I get the feeling Glagg's behavior and Anogg's return are somewhere in those. Glagg's behavior especially smells suspiciously like a setup for more content later.

As a ffxiv who has never played nier but wanted to know what this story was all about this was really helpful! All the ffxiv lore channels aren’t that great so this was refreshing
I... found this so confusing... Question: how does it fit the narrative that Annog returned? If everything seed-related had to die, why and how did "she" remain? And why was she an ally to begin with? ... Makes me wonder how far the control/influence of that seed is... Ah well, this is the only part of FF14 were I say "fights are fun, story... okay, who cares?" :D
I feel like it is a really big jump in logic to assume that the arc from automata had a seed of destruction on it but I guess there really isn't any other explanation because how else would it has gotten data from all of this yorha stuff. Plus the data logs directly state that 2B and 9S put their data inside of it as a way to make it replicate them at wherever he ended up so there would be a chance of destroying it.
I assume: the event of Dark Apocalypse in FF14 continued with the event of Nier Automata ending is leak into other universe? Remember in Nier Automata 9S is the latest!.. And sudden 2P shown up as new latest.. So, something that work out a New android.
I think Her Inflorence might be more related to Kaine than to Zero (since the Lunar Tear isn't positioned in her eye, but as a hair piece) and she has a collar of flowers hanging around her, just like the one Kaine's grandma gave her. Ending E from Nier Replicant Ver. 1.22 might have given us more clues as to who Kaine might be exactly (perhaps who she's a replicant from).
The machines found the seed of resurrection. It's explained in some documents from the raids.
The machines goal is to destroy the enemy. Given that, they need androids to exist for them to have a purpose. That would be a justification for them to replicate 9S and 2B
Interesting in the FFXIV part of the Nier Raid specifically they refer to the Seed as a 'portal' as well, which we also see presumably the same Seed fall out of.
Another interesting tidbit is they also tell us the Seed has its own 'network' and that the Copied 9S has supposedly interfaced with it at some point before the events of Dark Apocalypse.
Which might explain some of the things that have been recreated is each seed, like the flowers on a single stem are connected have been recreated such as the Salt 'snow' or the bosses from Nier Replicant.
Another interesting tidbit is Dark Apocalypse presents the data space as an actual physical place you could traverse to if you had the proper means, Anogg and Konogg bring attention to this during the Raid.
Another interesting note that probably doesnt really have any relevance but is neat none the less is that the Watchers forcing a pact onto someone or creating Red Eyes is compared to Tempering within the FFXIV universe.

Sadly, I havent had the opportunity to play a lot of the Nier/drakengard games, though I have been interested in their lore. It's nice to finally piece together the connections they have to FFXIV though, and the video was awesome~ :^
Do you think there's a possible connection between how Primals "Temper" in the FF14 universe and the way that the Watchers control people with the Red Eye thing?
I'll comment on this just in case, but there is an exact explanation about how primals temper people
@@Xevolo Yeah, I believe they go over it in ARR.
"Tempering" is actually the term used for when Ifrit brainwashes, because Ifrit is a fire Primal and "Tempering" is a term used for when you heat and cool metal repeatedly when making a sword. However, because Ifrit is the first Primal you face in FF14, "Tempering" kind of became the term associated with all Primals.
Primals are basically a huge mass of energy (called Aether in FF14) that usually leans towards a specific element. Ifrit is fire Aether, Titan is earth Aether, Leviathan is water Aether, etc. When normal people are exposed to a mass of strong Aether like a Primal has, it basically leaves an "imprint" of the desires of the Primal on that person. In essence, it brainwashes them. Anyone who has been Tempered will be forced to follow the desires of the Primal, and even go about in resummoning the Primal if they get defeated. Emet-Selch mentions (in Shadowbringers in a side conversation if you talk to him outside of a cutscene) that Primals "dye" the souls of people with their Aether.
If you go into the Sastasha (Hard) dungeon, you can see the effects of being Tempered by Leviathan on the pirates there. They end up taking more fish-like or aquatic-like features. While it's not always as clearcut with other Primals, it's still the same concept of the Primal's Aether directly affecting the Aether in the souls of others.
It's also important to note that it doesn't matter how strong you are, you can still be Tempered. Tiamat is a member of the First Brood of dragons, arguably some of the strongest beings on the Source. However, she ended up Tempered by the Primal Bahamut when she got tricked into summoning it by the Ascians. And while Tiamat wasn't fully brainwashed, she still comments on how there is an underlying compulsion to resummon him that she can feel, which is part of the reason she willingly allowed herself to be imprisoned by the Allagan Empire.
The only people who are immune to Tempering are those with the Echo. Given the revelations about the nature of Hydaelyn, Zodiark, and the Echo in Shadowbringers I'm not entirely sure what it is exactly right now. But the Echo is why our characters are relied on to handle Primals. We can kill them without fearing being Tempered. Without a group of strong people with the Echo, you basically would end up having to send in multiple waves of soldiers. The first wave would kill the summoners and begin fighting until they got Tempered, which is when you sent in the second wave. The second wave would kill the first wave and attack the Primal until they too got Tempered. You would continue with that patter until the Primal and all the Tempered soldiers were dead.
Going to suggest that the Seed was not "on" the Ark, the seed *is* the Ark.
I dont think so. The seed has a connection to Drakengard series and the watchers cult. While the Ark was originally meant as artillery to destroy the human server on the moon. It was repurposed as an Ark after the collapse of the red girls on the Tower to travel with the memories (perhaps even the conciences/souls) of the Machines through the universe in search for a New World to live in.
It is stated that the bloodlust of the Machines comes to a halt after the Ark is launched, hence they invite 9S in good faith to join them in their journey
I know this is a lot to ask for but can you make a time-line on the eternity of the nier series to the best of your knowledge. Please, my monkey brain isn't capable of the research.

Just bunch of clones of YoRHa androids made by the Machines using the seed similar to how 2P is a clone of 2B
I finally got around to doing the 3rd raid, and I was completely baffled. You've given me a lot to look into, how to I go about parsing all this information? Should I play the nier games? Is there a specific order for these? I'm so confused but intrigued at the same time lol. FFxiv is gonna be the death of me lol
As a big fan of the games I'm a bit biased but I would recommend playing the games if you have the ability to. For order I would say chronological is easiest, so Drakengard 3, then Drakengard 1, then Nier Replicant, then Nier Automata. Annoyingly though, the Drakengard games are stuck on the PS3 and haven't been brought to modern systems. If you don't have a PS3, then Nier Replicant and Automata are easily accessible on PC, PS4, Xbox One and are the best two games in the series in my opinion so you could just play those and supplement with the videos I made on the channel for missing information

this was the most depressing raid i ever play in any online game, if you notice there is not even a win sound afthr killing Her Inflorecence, it feels like we ddint win, it feels like we already lost, another thing as far as i know N2 have information of the other world inside the arc, the data left behin from the old humant race left data and coordinates of the other world, maybe looking for answers in a way to become a god N2 was infected by the influence of the gods, and opening portals they end in FF world, maybe

Seed of destruction wasnt in our reality (nier) reality. It was in drakengards reality. That's a whole different reality.
I don't mean that the Seed originated from our reality, but that someone a Seed came to our reality from Drakengard and copied 2B and co. and then came to the Final Fantasy reality where 2P began her takeover.

Wouldn't called this canon since 2P only existed because of Soul Calibur 5 as a reverse 2 Player alternative, where 2P got the name from called by fans. Intentional or by accident, it was a clever name.
Even if it is canon, it's retroactively inserted.
How much was Taro smoking before writing any of that? N2 being connected to the watchers isn't too far fetched because of the constant twin/watcher connection. But suddenly bringing back the SoD and using it as a major plot point seems more like fanservice instead of a thought out plan. I wouldn't be suprised if Taro ends up with humanity creating the SoD, dark flower, and somehow porting the capital city into the Drakengard world. The flower was guarded by an android after all.
