I can't call this a tip! This is a life changing, Saver from embarrassment advice! Thank you Streaky.
Dude... seriously. Where the HELL have you been all this time in my life. Your tutorials are friggin’ eye opening to me as a beginner producer. Straight to the point, no fluff all action. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I’ve learned so much already from the few videos I have watched. I lost my inspiration because I felt like I was hitting a wall. This stuff inspires me to sit back down and do things. I feel that the brits just know how to deal with and teach music. It’s in your guys blood.
Love it! Always appreciate your positive vibe and knowledge 🧠
Thanks for sharing your knowledge man! It’s definitely been helping me loads.
Amazing. Just stumbled across your channel today Streaky, and watched a few videos. Great chat, and never condescending. Keep them vids coming!
This makes such a massive difference its insane!
thankyou, Streaky. This has just helped me even out a bass guitar track cleanly !
Great work Streaky thanks👍
Right on man! Thanks!
Thanks Streaky 🙌🏽🙌🏽
This technique not only creates the volume that you need but it also does some sonic enhancements (to the high end especially) that I would have grabbed an eq or an aural exciter type tool for. Superb! Again, Thank You!
Really helpful thanks, I've been looking for a way to do this for a while!
This was insanely helpful, thank you !
Great video, Streaky! Sharing the load between 3 limiters sounds so much better than one limiter doing all the lifting.
Just a Pro Tools trick for comparing different plugin chains - have the first chain in Inserts A-E, and the second chain in Inserts F-J. Now have the first chain engaged and second bypassed. Then toggle between the chains by pressing Shift+2 (bypass/engage Inserts A-E) and Shift+3 (bypass/engage Inserts F-J) at the same time!
I like the idea of gain-staging the track using different plugins. Great stuff!
This answered a question I didn't even know I wanted to ask! I now feel like I was 'making do' and am delighted that I no longer have to! Brilliant. Thanks, Streaky!
AWESOME!!! Thank You!!!
nice one! thanks streaky!!!
Excellent video as usual. I love to use the Waves L1 in the limiter chain to shave a couple db. It's a classic and has that sound that everyone knows
Really powerfull demonstration
Nice, sounded great
Streaky Tripple with a double P. Love it!
Very interesting, I work mainly on House/Techno tracks. Tend to just use a L2 on the end of the mastering chain. I will try this and listen to the difference.
I really enjoy your tips and tricks! Thank You!
wow! thanks for sharing your workflow, you're a real deep well of knowledge sir
Oh God, what a difference. You inspire me to try starting to master my own tracks
Thank you!
I do this with so many other applications (saturation, compression, etc.) but why have I never thought to stack limiters?!?! This is gold.
this man.. love u
All the best!
Brilliant advice 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👊🏿👊🏿👊🏿
Great stuff man. That's the Streaky Triple all up in the armoury!
Nice trick, have seen it long time ago on one of the Logic tutorials.... thanks for the reminder
*Thank u for all u doing*
You are the best❤️
Sounds way better ... Great method, it looks countrintuitive, yet it works great. I will try this on my next track.
gotta love this in the box tech.....
legend mate
This is priceless info, I just clicked the subscribe button
This is the best video you’ve ever posted
Dope!
THANK GOD FOR STREAKY WOW!!
Smart way 👌
Great information
great tip
What can i say?!... there's nobody on RUclips doing what you're doing.....Thank you for everything man
👍
check out help me devvon, he's also great, but streaky surely got the spirit and even more knowledge
@@justinoxy i know devon bro.. he's amazing....but streaky's different man..😄
@@ojvic7297 yeah i know what you mean
I strongly believe that you have shared this technique ( or mentioned ) in of your videos and applied it in my last song. Totally satisfied with the result. Nowhere professional standart but stepped up my game. Thank you!!!!
Also you guys can try TDR Limiter 6 GE. It has compression, clipper and limiter included. So a chain of dynamic that almost does the same thing. Try that one.
Night and day. I also made good experiences with stacking plugins and doing only few GR but more output volume. A good combination also is a clipper before a limiter and the last 1db with the Weiss mm1 limiter at the end. Cheers
We'll sing your praises from the rooftops, Streaky.
I subscribed. This is your best video ever Streaky.
Make another video where you explain why your name is Streaky, and show us how you would master something totally different, like jazz ensembles.
Like YouR videos . Help Me a lot 😎
Thank you for the trick Streaky. If I may have a little advice/ request: please level the voiceover with the sound from your DAW, so it doesn't hit our ears with additional dBs when you hit Play ;) Again, I love your videos. Cheers!
Yep I've always done this! Spread out your limiting between 3(minimum)limiters! But also(for certain tracks)try using a clipper or two in there and see how that works. Weather it be replacing 1 limiter with a clipper, at the beginning, or adding a clipper in addition to the 3 limiters! Try different stages, orders, etc., and see what works best for your workflow, and individual track/album!
Nice! ;) I love the Massey and all Fabfilter! I didn't know the Faraday... ;) thanks for this! I really like the Weiss... do you use it?
GOAT
Streaky for times man of the year
Also known as "cascading limiters". Great tip!
Suggestion. Can you possibly make a video how to set up multiple tracks for a full album mastering session and what's the best way to go about it, tips, printing etc..I appreciate it.
Also another great trick is to add a soft clipper before the limiter to shave off the peaks and give more headroom. Amazing video as always Streaky thanks alot ❤❤
i wouldn't clip the master unless it sounded good. i would clip channels and busses.
End even better if you add Transient Shaper (and boost attack) just before the Clipper, to make more punch without losing headroom! 🙂
I always set the Izotope limiter to -1.3 db and I’ll use 2 or 3 limiters. And use an Sonnox Inflatur too
Hey Streaky, could you make a video about mastering an album or ep and how to get the songs to sound cohesive when the mixes can sound quite different? Love your work, keep it up!
You may want to look into metering, also I find that having a standard or go to peak level when mixing can help with this as well, not that I have tons of experience with it but once I started paying attention to those things it seemed to help my projects have similar dynamics.
Goodhertz Sale is On!! finishes on 30th Nov 2020.
Thank you for your videos, they are really a great help. I notice a lot that there are mixed feelings when it comes to how much (if any at all) headroom to leave on the mastered file for conversion. some swear by "at least 1 db of headroom" but most professionals it seems will use every bit of headroom there is, even to the point of occasional clipping. does it really matter to save that much head room for conversion, and lose the potential to gain more level, or is it bogus? lol thanks again.
This song almost sounds like Dom Sigalas's "Paradise. Nice!
This a great tutorial! One limiter with M/S i really like is the Brainworx XL2
I just went through all my limiters to find one with M/S and that's exactly what I'm testing now. I rarely use the XL2 but I think this will definitely be a go-to now. Already my sides are sounding great.
Can u pls make a Shadow Hills video?
Always a good content in your videos! Thx
Love that track! Where can I find it?
On the Fabfilter Pro L, it seems like -6db gain reduction is the most I would want to go before it starts to really sound like crap. I could be wrong, but it works for me.
No pro, but, if in logic and not got theses limiters, I found quite a few flavours of limiter can be got from the stock compressor, no compress , just different models and and use the input gain and the limiter part
Hi Streaky nice video, what do you think about the old cube-tec loudness maximizer? I've heard that it is the best in the game and there seems not much information about it.
Gearslutz has a topic on Digital limiters quality test if you want to check what exactly every plugin does, some are super clean, some introduces funky to nasty distortion... Now a question: why do you preffer to insert a series of limiters instead a series of soft/hard clipping? Great video as usual!
My limiter chain is UAD oxfords > Fabfilter and at the end the Bettermaker hardware mastering limiter
Streaky, have you ever used high frequency limiting? And if you did, you tend to boost the high frequencies as a standard setting, how did balance it? Great content man thanks! Greetz Jelle
Would i be correct in assuming this provides a better average for the final limiter? Great info as always!
Nice shoutout for Goodhertz 👍
From memory, when the Massey Limiter came out Steve Massey implied that it truncates or rounds its output, as he's steadfastly opposed to dither. Which makes one wonder if it even runs correctly in a floating point environment.
Subbed. 🙏
🔥✌🏽
What I'll mention here may not be directly related to your video (by the way thanks for this great advice, again!), but you may find me funny here, an interesting science would be to do mastering for people talking on RUclips to optimize the dynamics and "life" in the voice, and the perceived loudness as well (to get one as good as yours haha but on all channels). Maybe that could be more catchy for the listeners to have an optimized voice sound, but I am guessing that we would need some psychologists to assist making the right things and sound. If some studies can show a difference in the number of views or likes with some testing subjects, it can become really an interesting science! Maybe I'll start working on that then haha! Thanks for the advice, much appreciated! Best Regards from your friend François in Montreal, Canada! 🎼🃏🎶🎵🙏😁🌠
Yay! I asked this question in the comments last week LOL
You asked I delivered 😂👍💪🏻
@@Streaky_com good stuff thanks man
-0.17! :-D wow - sounds way different / better with multiple limiters
Hi Streaky.., love the channel pal... Can I ask about your plugin signal flow?.., maybe you could do a video on the subject of which 'jobs' you usually tackle first...
I've seen one of your videos where you use EQ to remove unwanted subs below 20Hz / push the highs slightly.
One where you use multi-band compression to then tighten the subs.
Another where you brighten the highs slightly in the sides to add width.
This video one using 3 limiters.
Another using dynamic EQ to 'excite' & add movement to the mix......
I count 7 plugins from those videos - Is it normal to have so many on the Master?....
Is there a solid 'running order' you stick to when doing these?.., (& what would be your thinking behind that?)
Where would a 'character' plugin like the 'J37-Tape' come in the chain?.
Say you have a mix ready to work on, peaking at a healthy low level....., what (& in which order)., are the steps to take it from that low level stage.., up to 'done'...?
Cheers pal.., sorry if this is question overload!..., again, love the channel, pure gold.
That intro sounds like there's a ghost in my room.
Another great tip! I have stumbled across a few videos recently as well talking about using soft clipping as a way to increase volume combined with limiting, would be curious to know what your opinion is on this or if you think limiters are a better choice?
Both depends on the mix
Quick question on Ableton hope you can help. Have stuck a VU meter on my mixbus and its showing -0.3 which is to quiet and means I really need to crank up Fabfilter Pro-L to get a decent level. Rather than individually changing the level for each instrument, can I just slap a utility as first effect on the Mixbus with a gain of 2 so as to get it to hover around 0 LUFS?
I put a limiter on the like button and cut 2db on the subscribe. cheers.
wrll I do serial compression when I mix alot. So makes perfect seance but never though about serial limitinng..
What about saturation plugins and how to use it while mixing?
I personally never go over 3 dB on any software limiter. Just gets too crushed and starts to fold in on itself.
Stacking limiters is like stacking compressors. Limit shredding is a art.
Hi Streaky, the free mastering workshop link doesn't work?
-0.17 for Gene. very cool :D
can i use 3 pro L2 instead of using three different limiters?
I’ve used multiple compressors but not delved in to multiple limiters
does this work well with oxford inflator?
Please make a video on how to Record in Pro Tools using a USB Microphone 🙏🙏🙏
Does ozone 9 do mid/side limiting?
Distorting master are fine. As long as its done with taste and in alignment with the song.
Streaky my dude you said you gon spill everything so I have a suggestion on an (at least I think) very important topic. I'm currently at a point in my "career" where I really trust my skill and me doing a really good job at what I do. But especially in mastering (you can get guys like Chris Gehringer for 225$): How much should you be charging people if you haven't made a name for yourself yet, and how do you get a solid base of clients started?
I have a couple of videos on this do a search on my name and making money from music 👍
so...? if im not looking for the sond/tone of the others why bot just do a compessor and limiter ?
cant say this is a 1 to 1 comparison as you color the sound with different limiters. Does the theory hold up with 3 pro l's on the same settings vs 1? that would be a 1 to 1 comparison :) i know that's not to point with mastering but still.
