Hi! I just came about your video, and i'm a adult learning piano too, just little over a year now. I did take the lesson route, because i really wanted to know what i was doing, because i started to learn myself but quicly discoverd i have no clue what i was doing and already was learning bad habits it seemed after one lesson. She gives me guidance, i'm learning techniques and theory and she teaches me how to practice. I pay about 100 euros per month for weekly lessons of 45 minutes, and she also graduated a good conservatory. I think that is really a fair price. 200 dollar per hour is just crazy! I really liked your video and i'm now subbed :-)

Okay see I’m with you on that. I want to prioritize good technique so I’m leaning more towards an instructor. Thanks for letting me know what you pay! That’s such a good rate! I hope I can keep searching for another teacher. ahh I’m dying to know how your lessons have gone a year of training every week I bet you’ve made so much progress!! makes me excited to get started.

@@HeatherMaldonado_ thank you for replying! My teacher is very pleased with my progress :) but it also comes down to how much you practice. But I think you also play guitar? That will definitely help I think! I hope you'll find a good, and just as important, nice teacher, good luck with learning this beautiful instrument (but than, I'm biased ;)

Heyy and welcome ☺YES hand-me-downs are actually the best and to slowly build up over time. I'm sure you'll make it out to the city too, just don't give up and keep saving until it happens :) Jaicob was born in Queens and grew up as a kid here as well so it's also nice to be back. Good luck 🙌

For learning music I feel like RUclips is very helpful, but you have to learn what you want to practice and learn. If you have some experience I recommend learning easyish songs you like to hear and also learning scales and chords. RUclips can teach you the techniques for getting faster with the scales

SAM!! 😊 Nice to hear from you, bud. Okay so focus on scales and chords, and play music I actually WANT to play. Okay i like that recommendation thank you. I'm going to give it a try! And yes i don't want to learn any bad techniques either so watching tutorials would be helpful. Also let me know when you're playing near us I'd love to see another show :)

@@HeatherMaldonado_ Nice to watch your videos and see what’s been going on with y’all! I learned keyboard by ear so I picked up a lot of bad habits by not learning proper technique, making it harder to advance at some stuff. I’ve been learning how other people play online though and it’s been helping me a lot! With guitar and piano, finger placement becomes important. I definitely will! We’re trying to make sure to keep as active as we can!

You don't need to spend $1,200 a month - that is ridiculous. She might be used to teaching people trying to go to college for piano or become professionals. Try finding a STUDENT who is CURRENTLY at Julliard who'll give lessons - guarantee they'll charge less.

@@NopeNopeNopetyNope My thoughts exactly! She’s definitely teaching those taking piano professionally. Wait that’s so true maybe I can find a local student :O helps them get experience teaching as well. Thanks!! 😊

Don't spend $300 on lessons. That's a crazy rate. When I first started taking guitar lessons my instructor charged me $45 a lesson. I would advice taking lessons, but look into the Guitar Center, Sam Ash or Murphy's Music in NYC. I am sure they have instructors there. Music stores are always the way in my opinion. I always pick up my parts at Micro Center. I actually have one here in VA up in North. I picked up a GPU there a few years ago. Looks like you are adjusting well to the city. I will recommend at some point this summer. You need to take a weekend to head to Fire Island. Trust me you'll love it.

@@xxericthomas okay see that’s reasonable. Even $75-$100 I would consider. I’ll compare some local teachers with some music shops and compare. I just learned of Micro Center it’s amazing you’re so lucky you have one too. I like how you can actually view the parts and equipment in person since they have practically everything on hand.
