- On 31 March 1973, at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne, an otherwise Australian cast staged the Who's rock opera 'Tommy'. Keith Moon was delightful. Here are the excepts of his performance for your enjoyment. (The first vocalist is Colleen Hewitt, playing the role of Tommy's young mum).
Keith Moon fit 192 years of living in his 32 years of living on this planet.
rjplamf61 we are here for a good time. Not a long time
i can’t believe he was only 32. he looked much older, but everyone says that
He came from.another planet another galaxy. Could be Melmac, WHO knows....
Sad, that he died so young.
he tries to swing the mic like Daltrey and completly messes up :') the precious creepy loon.
My god he would have been brilliant on broadway. Had he lived who knows, he loved to entertain and was always on.
We might have had him in "Yellowbeard", and one wonders what kind of "Pirates of the Caribbean" character he'd have inspired.
He would've won a Tony. I believe it!
To this day, he is still the greatest Uncle Ernie.
I'm suspicious this man may have had a drink.
..... Or ten !!
Or cocaine
Or everything
You'd think?
He's had a few too many tonight
I knew Keith Moon for about three months during that year (1973). It was a significant year for him because it was the year his wife, Kim, walked out on him, taking their daughter, Mandy, with her. I'm not sure if this was the reason or not, but to me he always seemed insecure and in need of constant reassurance. And if there was even one other person present, Keith had to "perform" and be the centre of attention. He acted everything - drumming, singing, playing the fooI or whatever else he might be doing. I found him very quick witted, a much better singer than ever came across on stage, where he always broke into acting instead, and most surprisingly of all, he constantly seemed to need the validation of a laugh, a smile, a nod or a thumbs-up of appreciation whoever his "audience" was.
He must've been very insecure individual and low self-esteem too maybe.
Very similar insecurity and age of death to two later american comedians John Belushi and Chris Farley. All highly dependent on legal and illegal drugs to get through life. Keith was the only one to have died from a prescription drug. Clearly Keith was the most talented.
I’ve known someone like this, albeit not with his talent but the constant need to act up and show off in front of others. Always thought the worst thing folk can do is placate the types. Notice how Moon was much more normal in the presence of Pete?
At the end of the day Keith Moon was only human - and we all love him no matter what!!!
That's heartbreaking information behind the scenes of his real life tragedies. Thank you for sharing. Keith Moon was an absolute legend irregardless.
Love how he does attempts the Daltrey-esque microphone spin !
When I heard of Keith’s death I cried all day. The world lost the greatest r n r drummer ever😞
The mad genius. A monster and incredible drummer. one of the very best. My #1.
The Who were a powerful band and Keith Moon was the engine.
Keith: *walks around with the mike in his mouth*
Me: What a L e g e n d
Just as crazy as ever - and a little bit frightening... I loved the attempts at Daltrey mic swinging - fail!
"Good Morning Wankers!!" OMFG I CARNT
I'M DYING LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!
Pmsfl ! 😂😂😂😂
Good Lord he's blitzed out of his brain. Yep, that's Keith alright.
the thing is, I don't think Keith is acting, he is just being himself that is why he comes off so good. what an fn character he was. will never be another one like him.
Have you seen Keith play posh- he could do an aware put on (Shepperton Studio tour as an example)
This man is absolutely fucking glorious. God bless you Keith.
It was not lost on me as a young man the DARK MEANING behind all of the theatrics of Tommy. It was like modern-day David Copperfield and the terrible treatment of youngsters at the hands of troubled adults. Pete Townshend was exorcising his demons and speaking the truth. Good on him.
years of CRAZINESS made that man INSANE !
Amazing drummer and actor....sadly missed.
HE ATE THE MICROPHONE
All that band were comprised of genius.
For anyone wondering, this performance is at the Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne, 1973. He flew in for it, then promptly flew out. His only performance of this in Australia to my knowledge. Molly Meldrum played the part of Uncle Ernie in Sydney, talk about being robbed.
Keith was one of those rare artists that you just couldn't take your eyes off of. Magnetic. You never knew what he was going to do next, but you want to stick around and watch!
Great find loved Moonie
What's great about this video is Keith Moon's not acting
Did anyone ever enjoy fame more than Keith did?
I wish he was still alive and could give him a hug and let him know how much his drumming, his humor and his love for life have meant to me, love you Moonie.
i would have loved to hang out with keith !!! he is brilliant!!!
Ringo and John did.....
The greatest Uncle Ernie right here!
Getting properly pissed with Kieth Moon has to be on any serious alcoholic's short list of dream drinking buddy pub crawls.
He new he wouldn’t have a long life and tried to cram as much into it as he could
👍
What a treasure thank you for posting ...Moon the Loon in full swing..
WHERE DID YOU FIND THIS!? Seriously this is amazing!
I think it's magic!!!
This is amazing. I've read about this but had no idea it was on film. It makes me wonder how much other film is out there on Keith.
He was really passionate about this huh, to only think what he could've done in comedy acting had he lived.
Classic Keith Moon !! Bless him.
it's official, I have the creeps :)
And to think, he didn't even have to get into character to pull it off. 😄🍻
Wow, thanks for posting this. The definitive loose cannon... Whew!
That last part with the microphone LOLOLOL
The laugh in 2:54 sounds so creepy, yet awesome
Pmsl I know! 😂😂😂
Keith moon💃👣 ox👣💃 Brain jones may the Lord bless you and take u into his keeping : may he show u his countenance and take pity u : may he turn his eyes towards u and give u his PEACE .st anthonys blessing .
They should have had him do more singing in the band!
nice songs for the children !!
I wonder what Roger thinks of Keith's version of twirling a micro phone on stage
Keith twirling a microphone on stage I thought that was Roger's job in The Who
this was the problem with moonie he wanted to do everything. a drummer actor comedian singer few could do it. if only he focused on drumming!
and not drinking.
yep he might still be here
Keith don't need to focused anithying.. He is the best
Carlin well I've got some bad news for you...
yeah, maybe he would have made something of himself
Keith moon is nuts
Thank you sir!
Ew. I love him
Okay, give Moon the Oscar.
keith is so messed up this is classic.Long Live Keith Moon!
the great keith moon!
Clearly Keith was a method actor.
This was awesome
What a performer.
We all might have gone in different directions in our lives, and in another life Keith might have been a successful actor.. his personality might have been better suited to this career, which might have kept him more on the straight and narrow, rather than the rock n roll career that encouraged his waywardness
Love it
Great upload
Looks very natural on stage in Broadway roles
Major Les Miz Thenardier vibes! 🇫🇷 👏🏻 ⭐️
I always thought the Who was from Oz because one of the band said they were Australian.
Reverend BlueJeans - You must be referring to the Who's 1967 Smothers Brothers TV show appearance in the USA, the band introduce themselves and Roger Daltrey introduces himself a Roger from Oz, the Who toured Australia/New Zealand in 1968 with the Small faces and hated Australia /NZ ( both countries
conservative at that time ) and vowed and declared never to return, Keith did in 73 for Tommy and the Who didn't return until 2004.
@@robmac6508 I friend said to me that he means Wizard of Oz, not Astrialia. Looking at the interview it might be the case as the interviewer replied back Oz not Austrialia.
Uncle ernie is the original nightman.
Gotta pay the toll troll to get in the boys hole
He's not acting there. That's how he was.
A little close to home w/ Moonie.....
What do you mean? Couldn't have played Uncle Ernie any better!
Omnom338 Rules!!!!!! I agree!! :)
+Jay Birdy See it all depends on opinion and perspective! :)
+Jay Birdy He's not American. Also, why should I? This century is filled with idiots and chaos. What's the point?
Omnom338 Rules!!!!!! You don't know what an American is supporting nazis...get a clue dumbass. America is everyone....the world is what it is composed of. Sorry idiots, it was never White man's territory from the start, natives were here first...learn to share little boy.
This is some Richard III level of acting.
Wasn't this a character based on real life for Pete Townshend? Some buggered relative that attacked him in the night as a child.
Don't know. John Entwistle wrote the song.
That was just some bollocks he came out with to get out of being labelled a pedo. I'm sorry, i love the band and always have but *i wanted to see if what happened to me was abuse* come on mate he obviously knew what supposedly happened otherwise how would he know what to look for online? And if he knew what it was then he knows whether it was abuse or not
@@stephenm8898 and nobody cares that you’re a complete douche bag
@@peterbadore1338 at Pete’s suggestion- Pete sketched the plot, and asked John to fill in morbid song bits like this, because John had that sort of talent
The rest of the cast wasn't totally Australian - the Narrator was English singer Graham Bell who played The Lover in the studio version and the two English stage productions.
Yt never ceases to amaze me! Whered ya find this? Wow! Tc
hes an absolute nut case!! :p love him
What production is this? The orchestra is gigantic! I read Keith had 26 pills 💊 in his system of the drug that killed him-could he have wanted to die? Never be another one like him!
T
that was the Sydney leg of the Australian tour of the who doing the entire rock opera tommy with live orchestra.
Melbourne actually, at the Myer Music Bowl. Unfortunately for Sydney they got Molly Meldrum to play Uncle Ernie.
Am I the only one that doesn’t know what he meant by “fiddling about”?
Pissed a s a fart, love moon the loon.
Can you do anything about the sound so we can hear Keith?
Moo should have done a song with Zappa
He did. Check out Zappa's movie ; 200 Motels
How did they let Townshend‘s name to be spelled incorrectly?
Fiddle About composed by John Entwistle
Do you think it's alllriiight, to leave the boy with Uncle pervy...
That was real booze
you can tell keith moon is messed up!
Pmsfl 😂 love him ❤
Imagine him as an uncle...
I want him to be my Uncle Ernie. Best freaking messed up uncle ever!
You do realize what "Fiddle about" means, don't you?
+Sam Lunn We all do.
Omnom338 Rules!!!!!! Yet, you still want him as your Uncle?? :/
+Sam Lunn Yes, it's Keith Moon man!
@@NoOne-kr4jc that's completely different to what he actually said tho
IT's ROBERT NEWTON!
rhd123..lol yes....love the bit.... goodmorning wankers'....lol
Where did you find this??
Culled from a channel 7 broadcast which can be found on RUclips.
Mr. Moon's Daltrey-esque mic-swing needs more practice, they say. Let's see Mr. Daltrey play the drums…
Moon was Joking- caught far flung drum sticks, hell drumming at his pace required coordination and dexterity sober, and most specially drunk
This is so PUNK!!!
When I watched this movie.. yes... MOON and only Moon scared the crop out of me.. I didn't like the character he played.. it was too real.
I use to laugh at him when I watched Tommy as a kid!
This is awful
