    Ok I'm gonna say something about DR2 chapter 5 trial. Nagito's motive wasn't to kill the traitor. He found out that the rest of them are Ultimate Despair BESIDES the traitor and wanted to make an impossible murder so that they would get it wrong and only the traitor would live, effectively ridding of the despair. That is why he hated them so much in Chapter 4 because he found out their real identities

    I'm gonna defend Mikans motive for her trial. Common misconception was "She got a disease that changed the way she acts." That is not what happened. Monokuma specifically says, that she caught a "Remembrance Disease", making her act like she did before she forgot her memories. Implying she was always psychotic. Which works, seeing how the cast of DR2 were all remnants of despair. Which makes that twist make more sense given the context of Mikan getting the Remembrance Disease. Is it explained well? No, not at all. But it isn't this thing that was unplanned and "Hey we just need a murderer". It does have context in the greater plot of Danganronpa 2
    Edit: Uh, two months later, but I still check this thread every now and then, but 1.4k likes? Uh, you're all insane

    • @MechaWyvern707
      @MechaWyvern707 4 года назад +259

      While this is true, (DR3 spoiler I think?) Mikan's psychotic personality was a result of brainwashing, which is still a heck of a lot less interesting than her snapping due to mistreatment. It's true that we'd lose a bit of foreshadowing if Mikan's motive changed with no other changes to the story, but maybe another character with less potential to waste could catch the remembering disease, or maybe the person with the disease doesn't actually kill anyone or even becomes a victim? IDK, just some quick ideas.

    • @zeeteepippi275
      @zeeteepippi275 4 года назад +164

      @@MechaWyvern707 I think Mikan was the best choice if they were going to go with the remembering idea. Her being overtly psychotic and planning a precise murder is kind of in line with what the despair disease does. It's just that the problems are all either in the execution or the fundamental concept of altering a character's personality itself. It feels pretty cheap to have her pretty much perfectly disguise the fact that she got sick (besides trying to smother Hajime a couple of times), but it'd also be too obvious if she showed too many symptoms (similar to Celeste overacting and guiding the investigation in 1-3). I think it would work if she found a some sort of temporary solution, but was still suffering some side effects. The disease would only give her a vision of Junko, providing her with the courage to plan a murder or kill Hiyoko. As the trial goes on, she remembers more as her despair personality takes over. You'd still have everyone trying to distance themselves, but you'd make the despair disease seem less like a contrived plot device to be disposed of when it's not needed anymore. It could even have an element of tragedy, as you see the Mikan you love slowly die in front of you. Monokuma would use this to prove it only takes a bad day to drive even the most meek person to murder, and eventually plunge them into complete despair.

    • @MechaWyvern707

      @eyezuh_ 4 года назад +58

      @@MechaWyvern707 that's what I believe to be (one of many) problem(s) of the Despair arc. With how it's implied in DR2, it's as if Junko was so intriguing as a person, she willingly got the rest of the remnants to willingly go to despair. Bar Kamakura (been a while since I've watched it, so I might be wrong) she controlled the rest of the cast with that mind control. Which I think is stupid, and a waste of potential. Like, Nagito was so set on making sure Despair wouldn't win in DR2, and seeing him fall into Despair could've and should've been great. But nope, they all got mind controlled. This is one of the many reasons I refuse to believe End Of Hopes Peak is canon.

    Dude about #5 you're mistaken. Tsumugi DID NOT plan the Fifth trial in V3 at *ALL.* Kokichi had stolen her spotlight by claiming to be the mastermind forcing her to take action (creating the Flashback Lights that implicated Kokichi as the new Leader of Ultimate Despair which was entirely false as he knew nothing about the group). Remember, after Kokichi revealed the "Truth of the Outside World", NOBODY wanted to participate in the killing game anymore, as they felt it was meaningless. This is exactly what Kokichi wanted as he despised killing, and his actions were detrimental to the mastermind's plan as they wanted to continue the Killing Game for as long as possible, which is why Tsumugi created the Flashback Light, by causing the survivors to believe they were students of Hope's Peak Academy, she galvanized them into action by making them think that they had a responsibility to stop Kokichi no matter the cost... which worked in her favor as Maki nearly became the blackened and her actions forced Kaito to cooperate with Kokichi, effectively CONTINUING the Killing Game which is exactly what the mastermind wanted. Tsumugi's statement of planning everything to a T actually makes her a WORSE mastermind when you really think about it, because she gave the students their talents and personality right? Including, Korekiyo a serial killer who *exclusively murders girls* (In Chapter 3 he mentions that only Maki and Miu didn't fit his criteria *Tsumugi was not among those who were beneath his standard* ) and Kokichi is far and beyond more intelligent than Tsumugi staying one step ahead and all times and, if his motive video is to be believed, leads a group that *ACTIVELY DESPISED KILLING* oh and in the second trial it's revealed that being exposed to your motive video has the same effect as a Flashback Light (implanting false memories) which means if Kokichi didn't have that mind set at the start of the Killing Game he had one after seeing the video. Do you see where I'm going with this? That trial was obviously a result of Kokichi's meddling, after all not even MONOKUMA knew who the culprit OR victim was until after the trial and if he didn't know what makes you think Tsumugi does? So no Tsumugi planning "everything" about the Killing Game doesn't decrease the impact of any trial in V3 that statement doesn't even make SENSE in context.

    I feel as if not enough people give Hiyoko as a character much credit. She is a person who is brutally honest and is ridiculously bad at lying (as showcased in the second class trial). She is a character that starts off in despair trusting absolutely everybody and treating them like shit until she starts hanging out with Mahiru, who gives her a glimmer of hope as her newfound friend, who she deeply cared about. This had finally gotten her to start climbing out of that despair and into happiness. Until all of a sudden Mahiru, her only friend is killed, and she, pinned as the murderer. She regresses back into a crumpled ball. After this however, she finally gets another glimmer of hope in Fuyuhiko trying to get her to forgive him, seeing his dedication to his path of atonement almost works until the Despair disease is introduced, causing her to completely shut everybody off and regress once more. This time, however all she has is her memory of her best friend Mahiru, and the kimono tying lessons she was taught. But even that doesn’t last for her. She risks taking a bath, which caused her to lose the only part of Mahiru that is left in her world. She doesn’t remember how to tie her kimono, the last speck of Mahiru gone and all happiness in her situation, is eviscerated. This event results in the breakdown that Sonia witnesses in chapter 3. And in midst of that awful emptiness, despair, mourning, and grief, she walks in on Mikan killing Ibuki, resulting in her death in the midst of terrible despair. I know Hiyoko gets a lot of flack as a character for being overly hostile (which I am not trying to say is OK), with even some people laughing at her death, I think Hiyoko is one of the best most subtly written characters in the series and one that I personally relate to quite a lot. just one thing I wanna mention, Tsumugi never planned out kokichi's plot, nor korikiyo's, the reasons why is because they wern't affected by the flashback lights. Since the Flashback lights were the main motives (not counting kaede) they were completly un scripted. Kaede's was expected, korikiyo was crazy before hand, so who ever would have been the killer in ch3 didn't kill since they weren't affected, Maki tried to kill kokichi after she was affected, and kokichi and kaito were never affected, so once maki's plot failed, kokichi thought the plot up on his own, so tsumugi was caught off guard by those events, that's all I really have an issue with, since I can understand both sides on the V3 ending debate, but I thought I should mention that.

      [SPOILERS]
      If anything... Kork was the most telegraphed out of everyone in the game. Unlike everyone else...he was given a motive (his abusive sister) from the very BEGINNING of the game. He was not only given a motive to murder, but also a motive on WHO to murder (all the girls except for Miu and Maki) and by that method, Tsumugi was able to manipulate Kork’s actions.
      I theorize Maki was a similar case, with the whole ‘False Ultimate’ thing, but it wasn’t to as much of an extreme, and was thwarted by Kaito being Kaito

And I've came up with the theory that Kaede was aware that she was innocent but as the 1st trial went on she realized that The Mastermind rigged the first trial to ensure either her or Shuichi would be unfairly executed, and gave Shuichi a non-verbal signal to present the evidence that would have her be framed as the killer, because she realized that if one of them had to be unfairly executed it should be her as Shuichi due to being The Ultimate Detective had a much better chance of uncovering The Mastermind's identity, and bringing The Mastermind to justice.

    Kinda defeats the purpose."
    The entire point of the final trial was a rebuttal of exactly that idea, though. The idea that something being fictional makes it less impactful somehow is addressed directly. That's the whole point Shuichi makes about their experiences and emotions being real. That's the whole point of Kokichi in his entirety. It's the culmination of his and Shuichi's clash of truth vs lies. It's the climax of every previous trial in V3 revealing some sort of horrible truth that makes the characters question if maybe they were better off ignorant, living the lie they were beforehand.
    I mean, it's still possible to dislike that direction. I don't like claiming that everyone who disagrees "Just didn't get it". But to be frank, considering you don't even address that at all and get numerous other things wrong about just the plain facts of cases (like Kokichi's actions being entirely part of Tsumugi's plan), I feel like you really kinda didn't get it tbh.

      Chapters 2 & 3 were stand-alones since their conflicts started and ended over the course of each chapter.
      Ch. 4 & 5 are connected by Kokichi's plan that fails thanks to Shuichi revealing said plan to Monokuma - so the plan doesn't go anywhere as well.
      That leaves Ch. 1 & 6. Tsumugi essentialy lays down the clues for the rest of them to pick up so that they find out the big twist. Then she drops the bomb about everything being fake effectively putting all previous events into question.
      It doesn't matter if she's lying or not because *now* there's no way to know anything for sure.
      So when Shuichi gives his speech about feelings being real it just sounds like excuses from the writers. After all, they decided to compromise the whole game in exchange for a shocking plot twist, that doesn't even twist anything since it's the end of the game.
      How did we go from a murder mystery game to complete fourth-wall-breaking and existential crisis in one chapter which is the last one? It's not as clever as it sounds.

    I'm so glad Gundham's case reached the number 2 spot-
    As someone who absolutely adores Gundham as a character (alongside Chiaki and Mahiru), his case, motive and overall execution made me sob. When we were tasked on figuring out who the other person in the Deluxe Room was, I let out a literal audible gasp. I immediately felt tears welling up in my eyes as I selected Gundham. Then followed the futile attempts that Sonia took to save Gundham, followed up by Gundham only rebelling due to Sonia's constant pleading to fight back and disprove the claims. It's heart-wrenching to see a similar situation to Peko and Fuyuhiko, but with two likable characters since the very beginning. Both of which have tried their hardest to appeal to the group and try, try their absolute best in trials. Two characters who.. were unique and one wanted to protect the other. I'm not a huge fan of Sonia but after Gundham's case, I couldn't help but immediately fall in love with her character and bump her up on my favorite characters list. Just the raw emotions of one individual pleading for the other to be innocent- absolutely desperately trying to convince the group, and even Gundham himself, that Gundham was in no way capable of committing the crime- and then Gundham, putting on an act and a show.. putting on his villainous persona to keep up his way of living. He didn't give up on life. Sonia reminded him not to give up. Then, he was found the killer. In the most emotional motive ever, he killed to save everyone and teach a valuable lesson. Mechamaru also wanted to teach this lesson as he fought to the death with Gundham and didn't turn back. Gundham reminded them that they needed to live..

    for the second motive, Junko probably had everyone voluntarily tell her their secrets during their time as students, too. she seemed to be friends with all of them in dr3, and while she could have probably dug up ppls secrets without them voluntarily telling her, hifumi's knowledge of celeste's real name along with other things (Chihiro wearing boy's clothes in the photo found in chapter 3, genocider openly gushing over Byakuya in a class photo, etc) suggests that everyone's "deepest secrets" were probably all revealed to the rest of the class before they got their memories erased.

    I agree with almost everything you said about the bottom spot trial. Another issue I had with it was that it seemed to use the 3rd case from the second game (which was my least favorite in that game) as a template, because it shares a lot of the same plot points.
    -They’re both a double homocide where:
    1.The first victim is the eccentric short girl that the writers seem to want the audience to hate (or only like ironically), and
    2. The second victim is the girl who makes weird, goofy expressions and has implications of being homosexual.
    -In both the first victim is only killed because they accidentally walked in on the killer doing something suspicious.
    -In both, the two victims both died from neck injuries.
    -The second victim is thought to have committed suicide at some point in both trials.
    -Both cases involve a locked room mystery.
    -Both culprits claim that their motive for committing the crime was out of love for a deceased person and they are somewhat happy to go to them in the afterlife.
    There were probably more that I can’t think of right now, but those things did distract me. (Cases 4 and 5 of V3 also seemed to copy their respective cases from DR2 as well.)
    I also thought it was super obvious that it was Korekiyo since there were only 4 people in the room that could’ve killed Tenko and process of elimination made him the most suspicious.
    Also, one more complaint: Korekiyo’s actions make no sense. If he wanted to kill someone the entire time, then why didn’t he use the First Blood Perk during the first chapter? He could’ve escaped with no consequences. He mentions his sister during the first chapter, so he obviously remembers her. It honestly feels like they just wanted to use him as a joke rather than make a consistent plot point.

    • @genericyoutubecommentchann7418
      @genericyoutubecommentchann7418 4 года назад +22

      I thought I’d talk about the other trials too, so here they are:
      #17 from the list: Yeah, this one was also pretty bad imo, and the video covered most of the reasons. I was particularly annoyed that no one brought up the possibility that someone could have told Ibuki to kill herself since she was infected with a gullible disease, as that person would’ve been guilty based on the logic of the previous trial. I was also annoyed that they never said what Hiyoko’s murder weapon was. I do disagree with your statement on Mikan’s motive though; another comment went into that further. Also, I liked Chiaki’s belief without doubt monologue.
      #16: I liked the first half of this trial, as it was kind of a murder mystery that re-examined the first trial, and I give it points for creativity, but I hated the rest of it for the same reasons as mentioned in the video. I also thought they repeated the words “fictional,” “hope,” and “despair” too often which got *very* annoying. Also Tsumugi is my least favorite character and this trial solidified that.
      #15: I liked this case, but I get why people don’t have strong feelings towards it. That’s all I have to say really.
      #14: Similarly, I enjoyed Junko and where the plot went, but was disappointed that there was no murder mystery. Also another plot hole: They said that the students handed their friends and family over to Junko so she could perform experiments on them. When did that happen? Junko was supposed to be sealed inside Hope’s Peak with the first game’s cast during that time.
      #13: I enjoyed this first case. My only real complaint is how they didn’t really flesh out Leon’s character or motive. I know they kind of did later on, but I still think he should’ve explained his feelings himself. Also, I thought Sayaka’s plan was flawed since 2 people witnessed her go to the kitchen to get the knife.
      #12: This is my favorite final trial too, and for the same reasons. This is the only time where I think the Hope vs. Despair theme worked honestly. But they spent way too much time elaborating how Mukuro was disguised in my opinion.
      #11 I may be in the minority, but I actually figured out Kaede’s plan. They showed two pictures of Rantaro, and since the second game’s first trial also used pictures to reveal an important clue, I inspected them carefully, noticed the flash, and then I was able to piece everything together. (Not every detail, but most of it.) And that’s kind of where my problem lies. The whole trial relies on the player not noticing something until a character brings it up later rather than introducing new information as it goes on. Other than that it was fine. I also preferred Kaede over Shuichi honestly.
      #10: I liked this trial for the same reasons mentioned in the video, but also because it feels like everyone contributes. Often times, some characters sit on the sidelines while others do most of the work, but it felt like everyone was active at some point in this trial.
      #9: I can’t really explain why, but I wasn’t that interested in this one. I don’t hate it, but I was just kind of bored during it. If I had to guess, it might be because I thought Ryoma was kind of forgettable, and I wasn’t a fan of Kaito’s argument that everyone should believe in Maki despite her suspicion when she really didn’t do anything to make me want to believe in her up until this point. It also went against the second game’s message too. The entire trial really doesn’t connect to anything, and it just feels like they threw it in to get rid of filler characters.
      #8: I didn’t like this one. I thought the culprit was way too obvious. They foreshadowed her working with Hifumi in the previous chapter, and the entire time she acts completely opposite of what she was normally like. Also, she constantly insists that Yasuhiro is the culprit during the trial when literally the first thing they established was that Yasuhiro couldn’t have done it. The plan was complex, yes, but once I suspected her, the entire thing just fell apart.
      #7: I thought this was a very solid case, but I thought the motive was dumb. The delivery of it in the video game was excellent, but Mahiru didn’t even have any involvement in the actual murder of Fuyuhiko’s sister and Sato was already dead, so I thought his need to kill Mahiru for being an “accomplice” was unnecessary. This translates into Peko’s plan as well, which was also flawed. The entire murder was caught on camera, so her “tool” argument was invalid. So she just ended up killing Mahiru over nothing. Likewise, if the class had voted for Hiyoko, then Fuyuhiko would’ve been executed thus negating her goal. I honestly didn’t have any sympathy for Fuyuhiko or Peko when she died. I know that’s an unpopular opinion, but that’s me.
      #6: This one was short, but I like it a lot.The only two things that I have to say are that Sakura’s smile made me suspect her, and I have a hard time believing that Sakura would be able to get hit over the head twice when both assailants would have to run to the shelf giving her enough time to react.
      #5: I agree with mostly everything. The only thing I hate is that Shuichi solves the mystery when Kaito *literally* says that if Monokuma doesn’t know the culprit, then the game can’t continue. There were some other moments in the trial like that too.
      #4: This one was also great. I agree with mostly everything.
      #3: This is also my favorite from V3. I thought the virtual world’s secret was a little too obvious, and just a lesser version of the Funhouse though. (Both involved a two-sectioned area being separated but one person knows of a secret connection.) Also, Miu’s plan was dumb. She had electro hammers and a device that could control exisals, and yet she *still* wanted to kill someone to escape. Also, she was not subtle with taking out the bridge, made the mistake of walking in front of the window, and tried to make Kokichi her target by rendezvousing with him. That was probably the worst way to go about it.
      #2: Literally nothing else new to say.
      #1: Great choice. It might be my number 1 too. (Although they may have spent just a bit too long on the fire grenade twist, and I thought it was pretty obvious that the Future Foundation wasn’t bad since Usami/Monomi was so docile.)

    I think that the problem with the third trials is that, while having two victims instead of one sounds good in paper, it is a terrible idea if you don't know how to handle it. All of the third chapters are horribly written.
    I mean really, the first game is the only one where it actually makes sense to have a second victim, even if Celeste pulled off one of most stupid and obvious murder plans in the series. (I can let Leon not noticing the 11037 message slide because he was most likely in panic during the whole thing, but the other things in the third trial are just outright idiotic). Also, they murdered Celeste's character in this trial with the terrible writing.
    In the second game the second murder feels WAY too forced. It's really way too much of a coincidence to make Hiyoko walk in just in time to see Mikan staging Ibuki's murder. They also never talk about what murder weapon even killed her and mostly ignore her during the trial , and the trial itself feels like (and IS) a rushed mess. Just look at all the goddamn plotholes it has, not to mention that the Dispear Disease is just a lazy excuse to make someone who is unlikely to kill someone commit a murder.
    And the third game... ugh, dear lord...
    Taka was part of a murder plan and Hiyoko walked in at the wrong time, okay, but WHAT REAL REASON HAD TENKO TO DIE?!
    Not to mention, that they murdered Korekyo's intelligence in this trial: Angie's murder is the perfect crime, why waste so much time and efford in having a second victim just so her death can leave even more evidence behind? And don't even get me started on the ruines possibilities this chapter had: If only the first victim's death counts, it would be a cool cocnept to see the cast having to live with someone who got away with murder, but no, it is all thrown out the window. Also, was it really necesary to have an incest subplot? (Also, V3 has *two* other incest subplots)
    Also, the first two games killed Taka and Hiyoko way too early, a.k.a. in the middle of their character development. I'm asking myself why give them ay character development if they were going to axe them the very next chapter? Not to mention, people act like they never even existed after the trial. At least V3 did it better with Himiko, who actually survives

      I think the game implied that Korekiyo was a serial killer. Korekiyo wanted to kill people to make more friends for his sister, a hundred to be exact. By making more friends, he means killing them so their spirits can meet his dead sister. He definitely had a reason to kill two people, but I agree that it was not really well developed and would be more interesting if there were two killers.

The reason they were swapped out was because of Peko. If Fuyuhiko died, it would have been throwing away Peko's life as well. It would have just been a waste of development for Fuyuhiko AND Peko, if he died without growth from that. That's more than likely why the murder weapon for Hiyoko remains unknown. If you did in fact read this whole thing, thank you for your time.

    If you don’t like Mikan, that’s fine, if you think the trial was boring, that’s also fine, but geez, that trial gets so much crap it does not deserve. First of all, two of the problems, the logistics, and the motive, are flat-out incorrect. The motive is not that Mikan is acting the opposite of how she should be, it’s that she remembered her life before the killing game. Recall that she’s an ultimate Despair, and it becomes what I would have to say is probably the best motive in the series. Second, Hajime literally states IN THE TRIAL, that he was away from the music venue for AT LEAST 10 MINUTES. If it was 2-5 minutes, I could see this being impossible, but 10 is more than enough if you’re prepared. Also, I personally believe that Mikan probably has some experience killing people considering she was an ultimate Despair, so she could most likely cut corners and trim around the edges to save time. The fact Ibuki has to die for no apparent reason was stupid, and Hiyoko’s death was definitely not delved into enough. I don’t think the trial is one of the best, heck, it’s still around only halfway for me, but it is nowhere near as bad as people say, and most reasons people give are completely and utterly wrong.

    • @scantyer
      @scantyer 4 года назад

      I agree, and plus of all the third chapter trials involving double murder this one does it best. Why? Because Mikan actually had a legit reason to kill the second victim: Hyoko saw her hanging Ibuki. She had to kill Hyoko. All the others double murders were dumb and had no fucking reason to happen besides "i wanted to".

      Scantier well, I dunno about the double murder in the first game being pointless. This. So many interesting things it could've done, and instead it just rehashed so much of the first two games. Like, instead of "take the obvious rip-off of the first two main protags even with the talent of a supporting protag, kill him off which makes sense for the mastermind to learn from Junko's mistake and get rid of the detective early and have the actual main protag with a more unique talent that has possibilities to apply in trials (think of Ibuki's great hearing being shared by Kaede so she can have some minigame where she notices from the tone of voice someone's lying)" to "we introduce a fresh, different new protag but kill them off immediately in a stupid way to make way for Makoto expy number 2". Not to mention that afyer taking so much from the first two games, they then felt they had to go meta and insult the audience by doing the meta shit so badly they had to backtrack in an interview. The third game was such a letdown after the first two stellar games.

    Haa, another good list, and... to be honest, I kinda want to particularly throw in a happy nod for you liking Korekiyo's whole... deal as a part of the case! Like, I understand why a lot of people find it... extra off-putting, just on principle, but... ha, that kind of thing aside, /man/, did it... put the case and his character into basically campy horror/pitch, *pitch* black comedy territory for me - and... well, 'ey. 8,)b It's not like Dangan Ronpa has ever shied away from doing bugfuck crazy or depraved things with its characters and/or their motivations.
    ...The Mikan portion actually also reminds me, though. 8,|a For one, hey... I guess at least Mikan's motive can be taken as a foreshadowing, though I agree it would have been way more interesting if she had just snapped, while I also wish Ibuki had... stayed longer, come to think of it, I feel like her death would have also made sense in a double murder between her and Mikan if Mikan's motive *had* just been... snapping. Like, it still would have made more sense if Mikan had killed Hiyoko *first*... but considering how Ibuki got... leery over Mikan embarrassing herself, like, what if Mikan, still out-of-sorts in the mindset of having killed her biggest bully on the island (man, especially considering what her strain of the disease was, and that she, Mahiru, Hiyoko, and Ibuki were all pals once upon a time), decided she'd storm over to the sick-and-vulnerable Ibuki's room due to seeing her as also part of the problem?

    There was a plot hole in case 5 of v3 that had me looking in the wrong direction. In the murder video there is no blood smear on the floor which had me believing that the body was moved after the press went down. Another issue was that in the final argument the electro bomb was triggered after maki attacked the control panel so the alarm should have triggered. I could be wrong with these and they don't really bother me but I thought I should say them anyway.

    • @genericyoutubecommentchann7418
      @genericyoutubecommentchann7418 4 года назад

      You are right, the blood trail on the floor was not visible in the video. Also the press suddenly slams down after the pause when it should have just continued lowering at the same speed as before since the characters made a big deal about it only going at one speed from what I remember.

    • @willowpets
      @willowpets 4 года назад

      GenericRUclipsComment Channel The reason it slams down is because Kaito breaks the press so that it falls and crushes Kokichi - remember, the press would stop if it sensed a person under it. So, in order to make it crush Kokichi, he had to break it, making it fall quickly. The difference in speed is how they figured that part of the murder out.

    • @genericyoutubecommentchann7418
      @genericyoutubecommentchann7418 4 года назад +2

      Will O No, that’s wrong. The electrobomb that Kokichi used is what jammed the sensor. And that was already in effect when the Kaito was in the press. The reason the press “stopped” in the video was because either Kokichi or Kaito failed to hit the stop/start and pause/play buttons at the exact same time, (most likely Kaito since he only had one chance) so the video was recording while the press wasn’t active for a split second.
      But even then, the press should’ve still continued to lower slowly at the same speed. They specifically compare the victim being crushed to when Keebo was in the press earlier in the chapter, and with that, the press just lowers slowly the entire time. That’s what should’ve happened here. If I had to guess, they probably did it this way so the trial would’ve been harder to figure out, but they still created an inconsistency in doing so.
      Also, breaking a sensor wouldn’t suddenly make the press gain a new speed. That doesn’t make sense. Watch the trial again. It’s around the 2 hour mark where they go into the “pause.”

    18. Am I the only one who loves this trial? This could be because of my love for the culprit in this case. I do feel that Tenko and Angie were the weakest chars of the cast so I was glad to see them go honest. I'll give those two some credit, both had good intentions at one point, but their means of going about things I did find annoying at times. Give this case a little credit though, at least after this case Himiko became more motivated to help out. Also, Kiyo's execution is one of my favs.
    17. Yeah I'll admit this one was confusing at times, but I still liked it. I know 3rd cases tend to be the weak links according to fans, but I enjoyed all of the 3rd cases because they became tricky to figure out. But yeah the logistics was a problem. How in the heck did Mikan have time to do the film, set up the crime scene, let the crime scene all within what probably took a minute for Hajime to tell the others? That's pretty bad.
    16. I will admit, while I really do love V3, I do think it has the weakest final case. It started out very strong for me by retreading the first case, but it got so meta it left my brain numb by the time it was over. I think Kodaka was trying to top himself by asking, "Okay what can I do that no one will expect?" And this was his answer. So yeah I can understand the mixed feelings.
    15. If I am being honest, this is the worst case for me because it would be torturous to watch Makoto eventually frame himself and Kyoko is my fav DR char . . . . so yeah . . . . This is actually the main reason I haven't bought the first game because I am scared to play this trial.
    14. Am I the only one who doesn't mind exposition dumps? I LOVE this trial! It's not my fav Final trial, but I still love it, especially when you do get the biggest twist in the game on who the true mastermind is. And I don't know which game you played Dafawful, but in the Let's Play I watched, they were called Remnants of Despair. Still corny but I like it.
    13. I'll be honest, when I first saw the original anime (I saw it before seeing a fanmade Let's play of it back in 2013), I wasn't surprised that Sayaka was the first to die.
    12. This is my fav Final case too and man did I love it. I actually loved Junko here and I can see one person because the case of something big. After all she did say Despair was contagious. Then again I am one of those people that believes anything is possible too.
    11. Mmmm, I felt you left out details that also made this case stand out too. Besides making Kaede to be the killer here, the victim itself was also shocking because Rantaro was the char with the mystery talent and in the past 2 games, those types chars were survivors (Kyoko and Hajime). Not to mention this trial left out 2 major details that would lead to the true killer, Tsumugi- the closing hidden door and Rantaro's bloody hand with the missing Monopad. I will admit, after I saw NicoB complete that first trial, I always felt something was missing.
    10. This was the trial that you either loved Nakito after this or hated him. I honestly don't know how I feel about Nagito, but I do think he's a brilliant char and very original. You can tell his VA Bryce had a lot fun with him lol.
    9. The victim in this case was shocking but yeah this was a very cool case. I need to rewatch it again because it was hard to remember all of the details. I just remember really loving lol.
    8. Yeah it was only by one little slip up from Celeste that led to her downfall. Man was she an interesting char though. She even lied to herself in this game.
    7. 2nd trials traditionally did pull the heart strings and this one really hit hard. I do feel it really dragged on for too long at times and like things had to be spoon fed to the others when watching NicoB play this game.
    6. Oh yeah this one was a shocker. I actually am not a huge fan of the case on a subjective level because of the constant figure pointing and as a result, I felt it dragged on for too long.
    5. I . . . . just don't like this case. Other then DR2's case 5, I felt this was bad for subjective reasons. True, Kokichi's plan was brilliant, but the emotional rollercoaster that led up to this point was too much, and it's why I haven't gotten V3 either.
    4. Love love love this trial and after the final trial, this is my fav from the game. It heartbreaking, but at least I could handle it.
    3. I love this trial, but the only thing that mars it is Kaito's behavior during the later part of the trial. It just had me lower my opinion of him for some reason. I commend him for being loyal, but I don't know, I just don't like how he treated Shuichi there towards the end, even with all the evidence.
    2. OMG YES I love this case (and we now know what #1 is lol). I think out of ALL of the motives, this was one was the cruelest because Monokuma used a "Need" as the motive. I knew this would end in tragedy when I heard Hunger was the motive. I love Gundam, he's my fav DR Male char, and this trial is why he is my fav male char, because it really showed just how noble he was, despite him being a killer and his dark persona. And I'll admit it, I am a Sonia and Gundam shipper lol.
    1. I never felt that the 'traitor' was a bad person by the time this game rolled around. But yeah, this case was screwed up, but definitely interesting. Yeah, Nagito's motive for killing the rest of the chars definitely explained why he suddenly changed his demeanor.
    Cool list!

      I like Korekiyo, but I think his motive still falls in the lazy category. I don't mind a depraved motive, I enjoyed 1-3 enough. But Korekiyo's motive is basically a rehash of Mikan's motive without the clever foreshadowing to the twist. "I killed some random people because... love." Not only that, but it makes him look like a complete tool when he only got caught because he wanted to try out his goddamn seesaw. (But I'd still say that the ending scene where Kiyo talks about death is criminally overlooked.)
      I actually think Tsumugi lying is less interesting overall. Her planning everything out is pretty dumb (besides some inciting things, like giving Kaito the virus, but not planing every single character interaction and murder), I mean why even use real people if you're just gonna puppet them? But I think a world where people are obsessed with the killing game and want to join in is amazing. Unfortunately, it's not looking that way judging from the prologue and the fake scene. It seems like Team DR just kidnaps random people, and everything Tsumugi said is a lie. Imagine if everything Junko said was a lie. We wouldn't have DR2, we wouldn't have UDG, we wouldn't have DR3. Junko lied about several things like the DR1 cast not surviving on their own and the whole of 1-5, but having the big reveal be mostly fake closes so many possibilities.

    I honestly think V3 is the best in the series. Each character is more memorable than those in the other games, the graphics are amazing, the story's progression was interesting too. They even have a game at the end where all the characters from the series talk to each other and it was so sweet! Especially the scene where all the protagonists were in on location 🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂
    The only downer for V3 is the ending trial and the story's conclusion. It just makes all the other games in the series feel no longer of importance to fans by breaking the link and saying that it's all fiction, and the amazing trials and executions in V3 that was experienced felt like a waste.
    The part I did like at the end is the V3 meaning 53 and how there has been many killings, and how real ordinary people are being used.
