I think Leon's still hits me the hardest cuz like its the most realistic to me. Like someone could actually kidnap you and program a baseball machine to throw extra fast and hard.
@@sleepygeekyandreadytodream...y I didn't even think of that aspect of it, my god you're right! My take was that everyone else in this game got to die surrounded by things that they loved, even if those things were being twisted to become murderous. Mondo got to ride his bike one more time, Celeste got to have a dramatic, gothic spectacle, even Makoto showed a level of passion towards Hope's Peak and his classmates and got to 'die' in that environment. But Leon? He HATED baseball. He resented that baseball was all people saw him as good for and he only entered Hope's Peak for a chance to rid himself of the label and pursue a passion that had nothing to do with it. And how does he die? Dragged in chains back to a batting range, and beat to death by the constant reminder that he will never be remembered as anything more than the Baseball Guy who Died By Baseball. THAT'S what's so tragic about it to me. But on a meta commentary, it does hit extra hard that the first death is wild enough to set you up for what's to come, but realistic enough to make the audience feel like we're watching an actual execution. Great insight there! Edit: OH AND ALSO! If I'm remembering correctly, he only killed out of self-defense! Sayaka had lured him in to Makoto's room so SHE could kill HIM, and he was merely defending himself by killing her instead! So it's EXTRA undeserved!
@@tatltails3923 I mean, your take is right. Junko wanted to give the blackend despair so even their executions were made to give them despair. Leon getting killed by baseball themed execution would give him despair, but I watched a video not too long ago that also said that Leon's execution is based off of a thing some baseball players do, where they stay in a batting cage and get baseballs shot at them and they have to keep hitting them until they drop. It was for practice, and the fact that Leon was so good that he didn't need practice AND that he didn't actually practice or plan to kill Sayaka.... Also I don't remember much about Mondo's execution, but Celeste's your right that burning to death would've been a death she'd like, and that's exactly why they play up the fire only for her to die by car accident (the fire truck) a basic execution to show Celeste she isn't special like she made herself to be. And Makoto's is based on the fact that as a student you're expected to just sit in your seat and pay attention even if something big is happening. Murkuro's is kinda symbolic because of the name of the spears (Gungnir?) is what kills the wolf her organization was based on (Fenrir) and Junko's death gave her despair because she was SO excited to experience the despair of death and that moment in the end when she looked up meant she got bored so basically she died of boredom and that gave her more despair (which is good for her I guess??) sorry for the long comment
@@sleepygeekyandreadytodream...y No, don't be sorry! I love analyzing fan stuff like this! I'm not even really in this fandom, but there's a lot of fun fan discussions to be had and you've had some great points. Especially about everyone's deaths being ironic, that is a big factor to add to the discussion and I probably should have mentioned it sooner. It does shed new light on the subversion of expectations being what brings the kids the most despair, but that's also why I still think that just emphasizes Leon's tragedy: He doesn't even get any hope to crush. From the moment he's convicted he's just instantly dragged to his worst scenario and not even given that glimmer of hope. Especially when you add on your fact about where the idea for the execution came from: it's telling him that not only will he never be seen as anything but a Baseball Guy, he'll not even be seen as a GOOD Baseball Guy! He dies being forced to fail a basic baseball training exercise, told in so few words but so many baseballs that he's been straight-up worthless from his birth to his death. I don't have much to add to Mondo's execution, but it was him riding his bike in that circus-y cage sphere thing until it got powered by enough electricity to literally turn him into butter. Not sure exactly how that ironically ties into his despair, except maybe to mock all the posturing he had to do to hold a position of leadership in a gang and comparing him to a clown, or at least a performer? That might be how it's supposed to be painful, making him feel like a fake and a fraud- OH YEAH CAUSE THAT'S WHY HE WENT CRAZY WITH CHIHIRO AND/OR HIS BROTHER, HE WAS SUPER INSECURE ABOUT HIS IMAGE AS A MANLY MAN! So boiling his life's work down to nothing but a cheap performance was how it was supposed to hurt him. Still not sure about the butter, the butter was weird.
@@tatltails3923 The butter is a reference to a children's book called "The Story of Little Black Sambo," where a poor African or Indian boy (depending on which interpretation is being told) gives up his clothes to group of tigers to avoid getting eaten. The tigers put on the new clothes and start arguing among themselves over which one looks the best, which devolves into the tigers chasing each other around a tree for so long that they end up disintegrating into butter. The boy's family come and take back the clothes, and end up using the butter to make pancakes. The rivalry between the tigers kind of mirrors the brotherly rivalry between the Owadas, with their combined fates mirroring that of the tigers (one died in a race, and the other actually became butter for pancakes) . It's also why there's a lot of tiger imagery in the execution.

mhm, she at first was going out in the most elegant, one of the most unique ways to die, being burned at the stake, which was only used on very special people. then the truck came in, and instead had her die in (i think) what is the most common way to die
Fun fact about Mondo's death for those who don't know, but it's actually a reference to a story called "The Story of Little Black Sambo" (you can tell from the name that it's from the late 1800s), where a group of tigers get into a fight that results in them chasing each so intensely they melt into ghee, which is later used to make pancakes

14:30 slight danganronpa v3 spoilers for the first trial ahead, if you dont care then keep reading this is when game grumps figured out what happens after the first V3 trial before playing V3
I feel Celeste's death didn't match her Ultimate skill as much; more in line with her fashion sense. Would've been nice to see something gambling related, like eaten by a shark made of playing cards, trampled by racing horses, or surrounded by revolvers to play the ultimate Russian roulette.
most people dont understand the reasons for the execution's (celestes for example) she is happy because she gets to die in a unique way (burning) since she likes being diffrent but monokuma runs her over because car crashes are a common way to die making her unhappy with her death
Honestly it does kind of suck though because you can tell Arin really doesnt give a fuck about the games and is just constantly looking for issues even when there are none. Its honestly a bit of a drag to listen to.
Even the game grumps didn’t ask the real questions. If the blood is red in universe but the game displays it as pink, does Leon have pink hair that the game displays as red?

SHE?!
Arin was very firmly against Chihiro's arc being "Boy Pretends to Be Girl to Avoid Being Bullied" and instead believed it was a trans arc. Which is cool, he was being polite, but the game itself beats him over the head with him wanting to avoid being bullied as a boy and he still acted like Chihiro was gonna have some hidden scene where he reveals he likes being a girl or whayever
15:20 Monokuma is discussing about egg and sperm cells
“Seems like an elaborate way to kill somebody” Oh just you wait..the first of many
“Seems like an elaborate way to kill someone.”
Hunny you have something coming 💀
I can't believe Movavi Video Editor Plus died so many times throughout this game.
Mmm yes, Movavi Video Editor Plus. The saddest death.
Aaron the ultimate video game boy
Danny the ultimate stoner friend
"seems like a really elaborate way to kill somebody" Yeah that sums up the series well. Hoping if there's another game they'll start making complex Rube Goldberg machines made for murder. (like in Ghost Trick haha)
"I swear to God, if Sayori is hanged from the ceiling.."
*Bro we don't mention the literature club here*
I have a feeling this video wants to tell me it was made with something... But I'm not too sure as to what
“Maybe he’ll survive this.”
Me: “Uha- no”
Seeing how the grumps went through the first game, I'm curious how they'll react to the mind surgery that goodbye despair will cause
Fun fact:The momemt when makoto was about to execute,Monokuma was teaching him Sex Education.
The Anime has text on screen confirming this
Awesome!

slight danganronpa v3 spoilers for the first trial ahead, if you dont care then keep reading
this is when game grumps figured out what happens after the first V3 trial before playing V3
i really sat here and watched this even though i already played the game☠️
I mean, I'd hope you've already played the game before watching this
Sick watermark bro!
Thanks! Made it myself!
Time to describe every THH execution in one word.
Leon: balls
Mondo: butter
Celeste: fire
Alter ego: smush
Makoto/Kyoko: hell
Junko: everything
In leons: THAT WHAT SHE SAID-
Love the the witch’s death was almost how she wanted to die, but then monokuma (is that how it’s spelled), robs her of her dream death
This bear ain't a Care Bear he's a Scare bear .
Just realized mukuro has the same voice actor as toko
oh ok
IIIIIT'S PUUUUNIIISHMENT TIIIIME!
Shoutout to Movavi for taking part in all of the executions. Favorite part of the games, a shame they cut the character.
I don’t know why I’m watching everyone die again.
Because you're a psycho
"Are they gonna smash her?"
Me : No thats wrong! *slap my bed so it makes gun noise*.
game grumps once said:
SOMEBODY SPRAY PAINTED PINK EVERYWHERE!
i swear to god if sayori's haning from the roof
(add your own:D)
"it's like saw but dumb, and saw is already dumb"
@@luckymed556
"If i'm ever burned to death, I hope it's by stylized fire."
Where does he say this
Give the time please
"Maybe he'll survive this" *mondo butter*
"You saw the silent hill movie right? Yeah its pretty gruesome"
