How about consultation with a physician. A lot of those all natural ingredients are not compatible with many medications and can have serious repercussions.
Honestly, I think it depends. I know that at my school you could get cough drops and calamine lotion, topical stuff without having to consult parents. it’s a really thin line because you can be allergic to literally anything and you don’t have to always eat something to have a reaction. I remember I used to work with a preschool program and if the kids were all allergic to anything, they wouldn’t give them any sort of food whatsoever even if it didn’t have the allergen because it’s so easy to poison someone with allergies like that.
@gonelucid As absolutely messed up as this situation is and should have never happened, the things listed in the patches are not "knockout drugs" and would not keep even a small child sedated during an event of the nature that you are proposing, thankfully (unlike that creepy father who gave his young teenage daughters friends actual prescription sedatives). I work in the medical field and have knowledge of what those chemicals are and they wouldnt allow for that kind of sedation. It is my guess this is probably just incredibly irresponsible adults who didnt want to perform their duties of watching young children so found it easier to have them sleeping, not anything more nefarious such as harming the children in the manner you suggest.

Not sure what state you live in that allows teachers to give students tylenol with parent consent but that sure as hell is not happening anywhere around where I'm at in California. The schools will only give out medication prescribed by a health professional, other than that it's an ice pack or bandaid or go home with the parent.
My friend wasn't allowed to take an ibuprofen in middle school even with her mom on speaker phone saying she gives them permission. I get why they have to be extra precautious, but it just feels ridiculous sometimes.

As a child care worker, I will NEVER understand why people choose to work with kids if they don’t WANT to work with kids! I doubt they were sleeping through meals. Some sedatives work as appetite suppressants, so it's more likely that the kids just weren't hungry at the time that it was appropriate to eat. Most sleep-aids affect your natural circadian rhythm, so if you sleep at a time that your body doesn't need to sleep, it can affect when your body feels like it should be alert and when it feels hungry, as well. I have taken various prescription sedatives throughout the years to prevent PTSD nightmares and seizures that make me unable to have a REM cycle, and they've mildly impacted my appetite as well, depending on the medication. The ones that are more fast-acting cause less noticeable effects.

It really makes me sick. When I was in elementary school, teachers hit me, kicked me, threw books at me, made me wet myself in front of the class, and did other things to me. I went home and told my parents, and they did nothing, absolutely nothing, about it. My mother told me "Oh, you kids are all alike. Unless the teacher is a pushover, you think they are mean." I wonder what my mother would have done if this had happened to me? My prayers really go out to children who suffer in the school system. I know all too well what it feels like.
I'm sorry that you went through that. My school claimed that you could "opt out" of corporal punishment, but we still experienced it. I know others who experienced it even in states where it was illegal. Teachers don't get punished.
So true, as a 1st grader I had an upset stomach,( diareah) asked the teacher if I could go bathroom, and because I stayed longer than she thought I should, she literally spanked me with a paddle back then . Fortunately my father went to school , which I didn't know until older. She was never mean to me again . Teachers think they own kids when they are at school. OH, my father went to the school during conference time and took the TEACHER'S side, and the PRINCIPAL'S side. He totally embarrassed me in front of both and made it very clear that teachers are NEVER wrong, and that I would never do anything to make a teacher upset again, and that if a teacher got upset for any reason, that I would take the blame for EVERYTHING and ANYTHING no matter what. Read the ingredients NO WAY should children take this! 5-HTP affects serotonin levels! It could seriously affect brain development in young children! It could have resulted in a severe drug interaction! It contains melatonin, Valerian root & several other herbal supplements. For use only at sleep time, of course they were awake at 2am! The one poor kid wasn't eating and suffered stomach pain, some of the ingredients can cause terrible nausea, heartburn, gastrointestinal distress. If it does that to adults, think of what it can do to kids.

They shouldn’t have been just put on leave…those parents need to press charges and make sure police arrest these teachers for drugging children. A box of these patches cost $30 with 30 patches in a box. if there is about 30 kids in the class with 5 days in a week that $150 a week. Who was buying the patches? I don’t believe for a minute it was just to keep them quiet, they were doing something to the kids while sleeping.

They could have easily given the children normal stickers and claim that they are magic stickers that help you sleep for nap time. Kids would be excited for nap time and be more likely to calm down by thinking the stickers actually did something to help them sleep. I tried an adult sleeping patch one time & I slept for about 18 hours. I couldn't wake up & it was hard to move. Felt like sleep paralysis. I'm 30; I can't imagine being 4 & feeling all that fear. I'm so sorry to these kiddos. /:

I’m familiar with all the active ingredients in these patches and while some are harmless others can interfere with certain prescription medications or disorders, in addition to potentially altering sleep cycles… absolutely appalling that they would give this without parents’ knowledge, at a school and to children.
These are made for adults so these little bodies are absorbing enough for adults. These are not for children I saw what these have and am also familiar with the ingredients but I wouldn't give it to a child.

I looked up these stickers and they have lavender in them. I’m crazy allergic to lavender so I would have been covered in hives if they had done that to me as a kid. What if a child had a major allergy that caused anaphylaxis to something in the sticker?!

This is terrible! You just can't do that! You don't know everything a child is allergic to! A daycare worker did this to my brother, cousin and I when I was small. I was asthmatic and wasn't supposed to have moct of the things in the cough syrup they gave us to make us sleep. My mom was ready to kill someone when she found out. My aunties wouldn't even let her talk to the workers because she was livid!
What are parents supposed to do with this? I know how I would have reacted when my children were in school. There would have been missing persons reports on some teachers. My youngest was left on a bus and the bus parked in the barn for 3 1/2 hours while we were in a panic on her first day of school ever. The wife called me home from work and called the police by the time I got to the school. The search turned her up in the bus in a total panic. To keep the bus driver safe they put him in the office and locked the door. He was let go so I never saw him again. He tried to excuse himself so hard is what pissed me off the school tried to cover it up. My lawyer arranged them coming clean and apologizing on the front page of the local newspaper before I was happy. I didn't sue cause it would just be my neighbors tax dollars. I think using chemistry on a child should he a felony of great concern. Ten years wouldn't be unreasonable.
One of the things people don’t even realize is that their sleep pattern doesn’t magically return to normal after removing the sticker. Sleeping drugs given to kids that age can cause months of sleeping issues if not even permanent. I’ve had sleeping issues since I was 9 and I know the torture of having to try and reset your sleep cycle. It took me years to have even a half decent sleep so I hope these kids will have allot less trouble.

It sounds like the little girl moved it from her arm onto her leg where it would be covered by her clothes. Probably cause it was something new and interesting to share about with her mom. Pretty certain the staff would check every kids arm, and collect them up before the kids are picked up.

Not sure what state you live in that allows teachers to give students tylenol with parent consent but that sure as hell is not happening anywhere around where I'm at in California. The schools will only give out medication prescribed by a health professional, other than that it's an ice pack or bandaid or go home with the parent.

My friend wasn't allowed to take an ibuprofen in middle school even with her mom on speaker phone saying she gives them permission. I get why they have to be extra precautious, but it just feels ridiculous sometimes.

As a child care worker, I will NEVER understand why people choose to work with kids if they don’t WANT to work with kids! The pay is HORRIBLE in most places so we do this job because we genuinely love teaching and interacting with the kids! Everyone who knew about these patches should be in prison and NEVER allowed to work with children again! The little boy still had his lunch so they had these poor babies sleeping through their MEALS!? That’s insane!!

I doubt they were sleeping through meals. Some sedatives work as appetite suppressants, so it's more likely that the kids just weren't hungry at the time that it was appropriate to eat.
Most sleep-aids affect your natural circadian rhythm, so if you sleep at a time that your body doesn't need to sleep, it can affect when your body feels like it should be alert and when it feels hungry, as well.
I have taken various prescription sedatives throughout the years to prevent PTSD nightmares and seizures that make me unable to have a REM cycle, and they've mildly impacted my appetite as well, depending on the medication. The ones that are more fast-acting cause less noticeable effects.
Worse - these things made them lose their appetites and maybe nauseous, I don’t remember for sure
Thats what I thought until the childrens hospitals pushed the covid shot fr six month old babies tried to make it mandatory two weeks after the results that thousands of babies died in the first three months then I called two childrens aid supervisors in downtown toronto to do their job they took an oath to children not the government not the drug companies or their boss to the kids they both hung up so did the CFO at sick kids hospital so I dont trust any of them now
It really makes me sick. When I was in elementary school, teachers hit me, kicked me, threw books at me, made me wet myself in front of the class, and did other things to me. I went home and told my parents, and they did nothing, absolutely nothing, about it. My mother told me "Oh, you kids are all alike. Unless the teacher is a pushover, you think they are mean." I wonder what my mother would have done if this had happened to me? My prayers really go out to children who suffer in the school system. I know all too well what it feels like.

I'm sorry that you went through that. My school claimed that you could "opt out" of corporal punishment, but we still experienced it. I know others who experienced it even in states where it was illegal. Teachers don't get punished.
So true, as a 1st grader I had an upset stomach,( diareah) asked the teacher if I could go bathroom, and because I stayed longer than she thought I should, she literally spanked me with a paddle back then . Fortunately my father went to school , which I didn't know until older. She was never mean to me again . Teachers think they own kids when they are at school. Truly this is more sickening, but sadly some teachers are just mean and money or power hungry.
OH, my father went to the school during conference time and took the TEACHER'S side, and the PRINCIPAL'S side. He totally embarrassed me in front of both and made it very clear that teachers are NEVER wrong, and that I would never do anything to make a teacher upset again, and that if a teacher got upset for any reason, that I would take the blame for EVERYTHING and ANYTHING no matter what. Believe me, I was the scapegoat for all, and they knew it.

Read the ingredients NO WAY should children take this! 5-HTP affects serotonin levels! It could seriously affect brain development in young children! It could have resulted in a severe drug interaction! It contains melatonin, Valerian root & several other herbal supplements. For use only at sleep time, of course they were awake at 2am! The one poor kid wasn't eating and suffered stomach pain, some of the ingredients can cause terrible nausea, heartburn, gastrointestinal distress. If it does that to adults, think of what it can do to kids.

And it states on the product description “For adults with sleep issues!” Kids shouldn’t be using this, and they are 30 bucks a pack with only 28 patches? And that’s about the size of a class. Interactions with these patches have sent kids to the hospital with low heart rates, low blood pressure and seizures.

They shouldn’t have been just put on leave…those parents need to press charges and make sure police arrest these teachers for drugging children. They need to be given one charge of drugging for each child in their class and also be charged with child endangerment and they should never be allowed to work around children again after they serve prison time.

A box of these patches cost $30 with 30 patches in a box. if there is about 30 kids in the class with 5 days in a week that $150 a week. Who was buying the patches? I don’t believe for a minute it was just to keep them quiet, they were doing something to the kids while sleeping.
Once I saw that $30 price tag for that amount of patches I knew there's no way the teachers are purchasing these on their own salaries. The question definitely is WHO is supplying these to the teachers?

They could have easily given the children normal stickers and claim that they are magic stickers that help you sleep for nap time. Kids would be excited for nap time and be more likely to calm down by thinking the stickers actually did something to help them sleep. Giving them actual sleep patches meant for adults without the parents’ knowledge is incredibly wrong.

I tried an adult sleeping patch one time & I slept for about 18 hours. I couldn't wake up & it was hard to move. Felt like sleep paralysis. I'm 30; I can't imagine being 4 & feeling all that fear. I'm so sorry to these kiddos. /:
This is beyond abusive and criminal in so many levels:
Giving drugs without consent of the parents or medical supervising
Those patches affect the brain development, the biological rhythm of the child
No one knows what they did to the drugged kids, since, as with an adult, a drugged kid is more vulnerable
They also affected the dynamic of the families, with the kids not eating and being awake during the night

I’m familiar with all the active ingredients in these patches and while some are harmless others can interfere with certain prescription medications or disorders, in addition to potentially altering sleep cycles… absolutely appalling that they would give this without parents’ knowledge, at a school and to children.

These are made for adults so these little bodies are absorbing enough for adults. These are not for children I saw what these have and am also familiar with the ingredients but I wouldn't give it to a child.

I looked up these stickers and they have lavender in them. I’m crazy allergic to lavender so I would have been covered in hives if they had done that to me as a kid. What if a child had a major allergy that caused anaphylaxis to something in the sticker?!

This is terrible! You just can't do that! You don't know everything a child is allergic to! A daycare worker did this to my brother, cousin and I when I was small. I was asthmatic and wasn't supposed to have moct of the things in the cough syrup they gave us to make us sleep. My mom was ready to kill someone when she found out. My aunties wouldn't even let her talk to the workers because she was livid!

What are parents supposed to do with this? I know how I would have reacted when my children were in school. There would have been missing persons reports on some teachers.
My youngest was left on a bus and the bus parked in the barn for 3 1/2 hours while we were in a panic on her first day of school ever. The wife called me home from work and called the police by the time I got to the school. The search turned her up in the bus in a total panic.
To keep the bus driver safe they put him in the office and locked the door. He was let go so I never saw him again. He tried to excuse himself so hard is what pissed me off the school tried to cover it up. My lawyer arranged them coming clean and apologizing on the front page of the local newspaper before I was happy. I didn't sue cause it would just be my neighbors tax dollars.
I think using chemistry on a child should he a felony of great concern. Ten years wouldn't be unreasonable.
One of the things people don’t even realize is that their sleep pattern doesn’t magically return to normal after removing the sticker. Sleeping drugs given to kids that age can cause months of sleeping issues if not even permanent. I’ve had sleeping issues since I was 9 and I know the torture of having to try and reset your sleep cycle. It took me years to have even a half decent sleep so I hope these kids will have allot less trouble.
If you can only be an adequate caregiver by drugging the kids, then you should be nowhere near kids. I really really hope they are sent to prison.

All of those supplement ingredients are luckily extremely safe to use and act very subtly on the body, however NO ONE should be giving any supplements or medications to children without expressed written consent of the parents. Anyone involved in this should count themselves lucky if all they lose is their job.
