I would have caught it and carried it as far away down the river I could go and tighten an elastic around its beak so that it couldn't quack for its mother and waited till just before night fall and watch it panick desperately trying to call for its mother that forgot about the stupid thing hours ago and continued on on without another thought of the baby duck. If the duckings have this kind of mama sure they will be eaten by others. Her mama just left the ducking alone and ignore when it unable to get thru
mother ducks are food also, mother ducks sometimes fly away to get food and don't return because they became food themselves
