      All true!
Until at least 8 Canada team starters will play a solid part in solid enough teams playing in the "big 5 Euro leagues", Canada will be a forever underdog to the USA. No matter how good is Davies, no matter if David is said to be the best forward in CONCACAF.
If I understood correcty, from USA's team for this match 14 guys were playing in the "big 5 Euro leagues", and only 4 from Canada. Those "big 5" leagues are what they are for a good reason, not because some shi.t Euro-snobism.

No shame in losing to USA, imo. They just have more players with more experience in bigger games/teams/leagues.
Canada should still hold their head high. It is between USA and Canada now for the top two in CONCACAF. A fact Mexico cannot accept, which is why they play dirty (if we can't win, we'll take you out mentality) and fans throwing drinks onto the players.
USA fans see a bit of us in you. A budding soccer nation, fighting against several sports for recognition, slowly but surely becoming a respected team in the international game. And Canada did it quicker than the US. And many of us do root for you guys (especially against Mexico), but of course not against us.

Herdman once again got his tactics wrong.
It sucks but it doesn't seem like he learned from the WC.
USA were without their starting RB and their backup has to go up vs the BEST 1v1 attacker in the continent, so ofc we decide to pump aimless inaccurate long balls.
Davies at least looked dangerous when we finally got him the ball, but he was clearly trying to play hero ball in the 2nd half and had very wild shots from too far out.
David and Larin have that Lukaku/Harry Kane DNA. Great numbers against lower teams but ghost when trophies are on the line. Those two together simply don't work in matches where Canada doesn't dominate the midfield, and they both had horrible touches, looked like they were playing with cement boots.
Johnston def played like someone who was exhausted after his first European season.
Kennedy is still Canada's best ball playing CB, but his injury filled season and lack of pace were cruelly exposed. If we're gonna continue with him, need a much faster CB to cover for him.
We're now firmly in the top 3 of CONCACAF, but tonight showed the US is still far ahead of us as #1.

    • @ericlabrosse

Love my Johnston from Lakeshore, but he had way too many brain freezes like that header to no one at the top of the box in the 7th, and then that chance that Larin flubbed in the 8th… Would of changed everything in the game… We lacked cohesion, heart and all the other qualities that got us this far… Sitting just behind the Voyageurs was a treat and now dust ourselves off and onto the Gold Cup I guess…

Most of this analysis is great, but it must be said that Joe Scally is a much better defender than Sergiño Dest, and it really showed. Scally defended Davies exceptionally well, which isn't a big surprise, it's his strength.
Honestly if Tim Weah or Puli get hurt, Dest should be considered as a winger with Joe Scally left at RB. Reyna must stay in the midfield and Aaronsen has looked poor

  • @ejcash7234

Canadian fans have no reason to feel shame and all the reasons to be proud. The US was just the better and luckier team in this game. This however, does not negate all the efforts that the coach and the young lads have exerted to reach these finals. I still remember back in 1986 (as a teenager) the MNT consisting of veterans from NASL, MISL and from teams playing second division Norway or Austria. Some players, that went to Mexico, weren't even affiliated with any teams. So lets cut Team Canada some slack. Now, the forthcoming challenge, will be competition. Concacaf powers such as Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, T&T, Jamaica and even Mexico (to a certain extent) are no longer competitive as they were 10 yrs ago due to the lack of capital investment from the ever impoverishing toll of their Governments. Canada will be making it to future world cups, without a doubt; only problem will be that due to the lack of Concacaf competitiveness, they'll be crushed(perhaps beaten) by opponents from the AFC, CAF, CONMEBOL and UEFA. If Canadian fans start gloating every time the MNT beats Aruba 10-0 or St. Lucia 8-0, then don't expect miracles when facing Norway, South Korea, Nigeria or Albania. My 2 cents...

Acknowledge previous shenanigans with the newly reinstated USMNT Coach & Reyna, but as one who watched his father Claudio distribute some amazing passes with the smoothest of touches to less skilled talent, it cannot be overlooked that Gio has that similar gift & capability. Claudio was not blessed with the level talent on those 90s teams which his son’s generation has in the attacking third of the field. 🍻🇺🇸🍻

Watched the match. There's some good signs, especially with the transition play and the threat on our flanks. These were not flukes during the WCQs. However, our defending of set pieces is just amateur level, there are weak teams in the Canadian premier league that defend better than that. In addition, the first touches were like stabs to eyes, especially from Davies and David. Laryea and Kone are only ones who should hold their heads high from yesterday's performance. All that being said, US is the better team and has the better talent pool.

So-so play by Canada (overall, as they did have a few good chances and were decent but not at their best defensively) with lack-luster desire and I daresay a mediocre game plan equals NO GOALS and a loss to an American side that played well and had more desire to get to the ball and to play and defend. Previously when they won it was the other way around. So it's always a good match and typically a close game but right now it's obvious the USA is a bit better. Both WC teams have improvements to make still, if they want to beat Top 10 World Class Teams.

The Canadian National Team learnt little if anything of the past World Cup. There is no 10, there is no intelligent player in the 11. Is all running and kicking whatever, no quarterback to deliver assists with opportunity. The forwards and the strikers kick with power but not finesse. No growth noted since the World Cup. The manager tactics are counter attacking and nothing else. I can’t see them moving forward playing like this. Too bad.

The Canadian tactics were, in my opinion, inadequate to play them, the rings had the pressure to win, not us, they were in front of their crowd. Counter attacking will not work. I have seen this before, that is the way the English play, the English almost like the Leafs have not been successful in 57 years!.

David and lareya overrated af. Richie lareya is simply not good enough at this level and yet herdman still favours him. Talking about David, i don't remember when was the last time he turned up against a big team. We desperately needs daniel jebbison, a proper no. 9 who can turn up in big matches. Also, why play kennedy in such a crucicial match? Also, what was buchanan doing on the bench, he should have played instead of lareya from the vert start. I can continue listing our problems for hours. John herdman seriously needs to get his priorities straight, he should bench those guys who don't turn up when it matters the most like david, it doesn't matter how big of a superstar they are, they aren't bigger than the country. Also, he should stop giving chances to mediocore MLS players like lareya and kennedy.

We just had a really bad game and got a reality check tonight, still think we have a good group, but i still feel their is certain weaknesses in the team that need to be adressed.
