Good rods nowadays have a sensitive tip to feel the bite and strong back bone to haul the catch in. That being said, you have to know how to not handle these rods. Holding it straight up vertically like that while having a catch on it is asking for it to break. But im sure through this sacrifice, you have educated a lot if people. So i thank you, sir.
@@tight_lines_and_hookers_776 every experienced fisherman knows that fishing rods, regardless of it's quality and price, can broke if you carry a fish in that way. Emcast are indeed one of the best affordable fishing rods for surf fishing. Most of my friends owns two or more Emcast rods and had catch fishes up to 30 lb without any problem. When the fish is close to you take the fishing line with your hand, or grab the fish by the operculum
Operators fault. Rod should never be lifted more than 45°degrees up (its even better to lift fish paralel with the ground, than verticly). Why do you think people use net.
It’s a casting rod to be used with a baitcaster/conventional reel. It’s not a spinning rod. I think I know the differences between a spinning rod and a casting rod and how they’re supposed to bend accordingly. 😉
I could tell by the no trigger grip and the guides Lol I have the same one and caught 30+in stripers and flipped 26+in stripers with it and never broke on me
This is why you always use a net. It can happen with any graphite rod, regardless of the quality or price. At least it wasnt a st croix or a g loomis 😂
Dude you can’t blame that on the rod. It specifies the rated weight in ounces for casting but I can assure you holding a rod vertical with a few pounds pulling straight down on it is not good on any rod.
@@tight_lines_and_hookers_776 You literally uploaded a video, judging a specific brand based on you destroying a new rod with your masterclass technique of landing a ray. Daiwa uploaded a video based on how to treat rods i suggest you follow above advise and learn a thing or two

High stick Henry! Daiwa Australia made a video about this called "Bending graphite rods". See this all the time in the tackle industry. Why true lifetime warranties are becoming a thing of the past!
Any fisherman knows not to hold their rod that high in the air.. And.. That looks like a spinning rod. But holding it like a bait caster? I could be wrong. I couldn't get a clear view of his reel. It looks like a bait casting reel? Those two rod and reels don't mix. I see a few possible reasons why his rod broke.
Watching this I knew exactly was going to happen. You can do that high stick thing with an ugly stik, But you cannot do that with any kind of graphite or composite rod. Every time I go to the pier I see guys get out there with these fancy Fenwicks or St. Croix graphite rods trying to lift fish up over the rail. It always ends with them putting those rods in the trash. Like somebody else has said, what did they expect?
The spinning reel is upside down, so the rod was bending in the opposite direction it was designed to. I’ve seen a guy snap a rod casting it upside down
I have an Avet reel on it not a spinning reel. The rod was for a bait casting reel thats why you think it’s upside down. Thanks for watching and your input.
it can be the rod quality that plays a part of it but seems more like you broke it... everything was fine until you put pressure at the very top of the rod by trying to hold onto the stingray or pull it closer to you.... If I remember the rod is a fast action rod so in honesty, its not a bendable rod or stretchable rod like others that are moderate or slower action. That was a fisherman mistake. But I dont blame you though , many other fisherman dont know much about fast action rod when compare to the avg moderate that they usually put on all rods. Moderate fast action is bendable at the middle so when you do put up it... it will bend pretty solid I would say. But for the fast action rod its only bendable at the tip so you putting pressure on it... most likely its gonna break cause the rod wont bend with it as much as an moderate one. "Moderate rod are the avg rod, meaning majority of rod has it". But the Daiwa Emcast is fast action. People tend to forget about the fast action tip thats why the rod break.
Rule #1 do not hold the rod vertically when you caught something. I always repeat myself to anyone who fishes with me using my stuff. Didnt have any problems
You can do this with solid rod or glass rod..but that is hollow rod and you pick that ray off the ground and pointing your rod high..that is not rod problem but user mistake at finest
