What I don't understand is why you would go through all the effort to push the dragees in, only to remove them again nd then put them back. Can you not make the cross sections without the balls being pushed in first? Just seems like and awful waste of time. That, and, you need a Dragee Kiss

On Cake Boss, they add a dark color with a brush where the pearls go, so when the pearls are added, it looks like the pearls are pushed into the cake.
