A testimony to Danaher is that his guys all become the best instructors around. Between Nicky and Gordon Ryan, the next generation of teaching is totally sorted.
@@benhallo1553 a fairly good amount of time. Don’t know the exact amount of years he trained under John, but more than enough for John to give Nicky his black belt.
@@samuelemeryjiujitsu You are right. I know there was a big push for Nicky to compete and win but when you see the potential when he teaches I could see him coaching and producing a large amount champions and if I am honest becoming very financially well off in the process.
Nicky's future is a bright one regardless if he continues to compete or just concentrates on teaching. He has the knowledge, skill and personality to be successful.
Actually, for the language nerds (including me) I was wondering about that too. The word they have used, "Sokusei", with those kanji, is not a word in Japanese. So I think they have made it up. In Chinese it is a word though. It means "speed production" or "rapid development". In this context it probably refers to fast- tracking skill learning in BJJ. There is a word in Japanese that is pronounced the same, sokusei, but uses different kanji, 速成. That word in Japanese refers to a similar concept, ie, an 80/20 approach to learning, such as an intensive, fast-learning course. Either way, I guess it works for them. But confusing kanji with the intention of saying something that has a slightly different meaning is not uncommon. Even some of Gordon's tattoos are a little funky like that.
These videos are great for learning techniques, Even my coach has noticed my wrestling has improved because I’ve been trying and pulling off some moves I’ve seen in these vids, keep up the great work boys!
Interesting to see the fluidity that these guys move with is completely different to the guys in the background.. and those guys in the background probably look a hell of a lot better than me trying to do this! There’s a whole 4 steps in this drill man! I can’t remember that
Yep hands are good lot times when I wrestle when I pick up that single leg and then I start to run the pipe if the guy actually gets out of that or whatever comes up in that wizard you step forward into that I’m going right for that half Nelson over the top and you could spin them right underneath and go right for that arm bar they follow, you just drop right into an arm bar
Really slick stuff. Dummy Sweep also called a double Ko-Uchi? Since the feet are on the side of a O- Uchi Gari but they but they use the top of the feet (albeit the opposite side) like the Ko-Uchi Gari I feel like I'm at a loss of which would be more appropriate. Double Ko-Uchi? Double O-Uchi? Seated Double Fakey Ko-Uchi? I can't decide. I have to stick with Dummy Sweep.
I don't know, but from my point of view he's doing what an instructor should do, teaching and paying attention to the students and not training during class time
When I defend the single I like to attack the elbow not the wrist, pull his elbow up as you drive your leg down. Great instruction as always! I learn a lot from watching.
Don’t come up to the waist. That’s bad advice. His whizzer is ineffective when you’re on the legs. Once you come up to the waist, you give him a useful whizzer. There’s many things you can do if he doesn’t fall from running the pipe, but coming up to the waist is a habit I try to break in everyone I’ve ever coached. Try that shit against anyone who is good, and you will get your face smashed in the mat when he uses that whizzer hard and uchi matta’s your face to the mat. Stepping around is a JV wrestler mistake-it makes the whizzer even more effective. I personally like to head and arm them when they try to walk behind. It’s a nasty throw and takes zero energy on my part. So by all means, come up to the waist and walk around-you’re going for a ride. What he showed by stepping in the middle with the bodylock is sound advice. If you end up there, because he pulled you up, then that’s exactly what you should do. But you don’t want to come up to the waist if you can avoid it. Finishing low is a much higher percentage. John Smith won many world championships and Olympic titles that way. Coming up to the waist just creates a scramble that can be avoided entirely.
This was an informative video. However, the random cut aways to people in the crowd while the volunteers are actively doing the technique is unnecessary and frustrating. I want to see the technique the whole time Nicky is explaining it not the reactions of people seeing it be done.
I must say. I am not a fan of Nicky Ryan's teaching style. Part of the excitement. To me. Is seeing the instructor actually doing the techniques as he explains them.

For those wondering abt Nicky Rods rashguard, it says "Fast-systematic Jiu Jitsu" in Japanese
