I 've had DBS Surgery about 5 yrs ago, worked for a while, then started reversing itself, now in 2 weeks I'm going again to make myself well again, please don't feel sorry for me happy to have the surgery to be well again even it's for only a few years
I'd get this surgery done if it would break 30 years of depression, PTSD, anxiety ... despair. Agoraphobia. I don't remember what happiness feels like. It's hard to hope for help when everything else has failed miserably.
I really want this treatment. I have tried everything but nothing works for me. It looks terrifying but living the rest of my life like this is more terrifying. I doubt I will be accepted for this treatment in the UK though.
I'm a candidate for this and have talked to DBS clinical trial organizers, but I'd get the procedure done in Austin and live there for at least six months. I hope it'll be made more accessible in the future.
@@madamemiu20577Hi no I have not. Despite being eligible for the study, I would have to travel quite far and live near the study site on my own dime. I'd rather wait until it reaches stage 2 clinical trials (assuming that it gets approved for such). Hopefully there will be a study site in my city by then. I've heard more promising things about RNS anyway - it monitors brainwave activity and provides responsive stimulation as opposed to consistent stimulation (which is how DBS works). From my understanding, the results for past DBS studies have been a bit iffy and it's not really the miracle cure that journalists portrayed it to be. I wouldn't be surprised if Medtronic paid CNN to cover this. There's a facebook group out there for people who participated in Dr. Helen Mayberg's DBS depression trial and from what I hear the treatment itself is a bit iffy anyway. Honestly, I've heard some really bad things from patients who participated in her trial. Her trial was shut down by the FDA for various reasons. She's the doc who introduced DBS for depression and her trial is featured in this video. In addition, there has yet to be a DBS study with a sham treatment group. So at this point in time there is no way to measure whether or not the treatment is actually effective. Some patients had told me that they found themselves paying for additional medical costs associated with DBS despite being told by the study organizers that they would cover all of the costs associated with it. Needless to say that's a bit worrying. Trying numerous medications, sufficient therapy, ECT, and so on are required to qualify. If I remember correctly, there's only two active study sites here in the US. I think there's one at Stonybrook in Canada as well. Assuming you have not gone through ECT, I would not recommend trying it. It definitely did some long term damage to my brain. With that being said, I would definitely recommend give MAOIs a shot if you haven't. Parnate has helped me to some extent - everything else has failed. Hope this helps.
Living in the darkness and depression is pure hell. There is no ryme or reason. Some people fight their way through it. Others never make it another day. I hope someday they find a cure.
DBS has shown promise, but now 2 major clinical trials (with 100s of participants) have been shut down by the FDA for failure to demonstrate efficacy. Scientists have a long way to go before DBS becomes a viable treatment for severe treatment resistant depression. DBS has significant risks of severe harm to the patients. Much work remains to be done.
For the First one, they'd check to see if it affected the pack and treat accordingly For the second, they'd fix/replace it. They'll have to replace it every so often anyway. When I was in the Hospital a couple of years ago, I met someone with Parkinson's who had something like this and was having it replaced
Not quite true. ECT will prevent memories in and around the treatment from forming - most definitely! Particularly in the two weeks before and after, with a general increase in memory recognition stemming outward. However long term memory, I’d say almost entirely, remains intact. Especially memories formed years prior.
My father lost his voice and balance after DBS when he had it for Parkinsons. I took him all over the country to re-program his as couldn't even swallow water after surgery. Then he caught an infection during battery replacement and the entire thing had to be removed. They decided it was too risky to put it back. Now he got 2 holes in his head and can't even walk on his own. He flew on his own for the surgery and spoke perfectly. I highly recommend not to mess with your body's natural function by doing surgery and putting electronic devices inside your body, especially in your brain during the last stages of your life. My father didn’t feel human to me during the time he had DBS. He felt like a robot. At least now he feels human. Surgeries are best avoided if at all possible as it often leads to more surgeries down the road. The only surgery that is warranted is trauma surgery in my opinion. Others should be avoided if at all possible. Would you use an iPhone that’s been repaired? No. Your body is more complicated than your iPhone. Don’t interfere with its internal function.
Thanks john . Ya she is fine now but she is still going through some psychological issues not mentally but physically . Actually called " somatic disorder" . I and my team of people are working on it . If you have any lead or source please let me know . Thanks
hi john !! . No my mother is not a sugar patient . She is in fact never being a sugar patient . Her blood pressure becomes high and continues long to get back to normal . She eats Anti depressants morning and evening and Sleeping pills in night to overcome insomniac .
Hmmmm that's good i know now why Carol (from The walking dead) was so pessimisticon the first seasons , because she was a depressive person :) in this season she became more optimistic :) this stimulation works :) (for those who didn't understand what i'm talking about ... the woman in this video looks like carol xD)
It is my understanding that cranial electrical stimulation (ces), such as Dr. Bob Beck's Brain Tuner (there are several similar products on the market) is just as effective, without being as invasive. I would try those first.
@@gamingbanlav3951 I have an early version of the Sota Bio Tuner. It did help me. I later found that dietary changes made using it unnecessary (no dairy, sugar, starch).
This is so skeptical. why were the trials stopped? why didn't they state the side effects that can come with this too? How do we know when they were asking her question of her ratings of dread that it wasn't a placebo effect? Also shock therapy isn't new, its been around since the 1930s
The trial was too expensive to continue. They did state the side effects to each participant. No telling if what she was saying was true at the time of the surgery but what she said in the one on one was very likely true because the trial was over and had been for years and she had no reason to lie. The results during the trial also were promising.
What has been around since around 1930s is electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), which is a non-invasive procedure where you have electrodes placed on your head and the electrical current induces a seizure. It's much more of a broadband approach, and has significantly higher cognitive risks, memory loss is basically to be expected, to varying degrees. While DBS may be invasive, most of the risk comes from the surgery (and the fact of it being an implant - so, risk of infection, etc.) itself, barely any risk from the stimulation. You can also look up trials about DBS, most of them did some long-term monitoring, at least for a few months or even years after the treatment, and in most cases the results stayed quite stable. (In some where the outcome was not as good, there was usually an initial improvement in the first few weeks, which reverted afterwards)
just take shrooms people, it reliefs depression and anxiety by "resetting" the circuits of the brain responsible for depression, and also psilocybine is somehow binding with the serotonin receptors which are responsible for the good mood.
I would never put things in my brain that only last 10 years.... for something easily treatable as depression. Exercise ,mediation, healthy eating, change of thought patterns.
And do you think she hasn't tried all that? Why would depressed people want to be depressed if it's so easily treatable with the things you said? Depression is not the same as momentary sadness.
That's because it isn't evil. This treatment makes one undergo changes in hopes to make their situation better. It's no different from surgery if you think about it.
I GUARANTEE SHE ALREADY HAS! Why would you assume that she hasn't? I'm cautiously guaranteeing she has because she's been in a complex traumatic state ALL HER LIFE! Factoring in she's of a Southern origin and it's safe to assume she most likely has. So, why would she be accessing science when she leans on her faith in Christ? Only God knows.
No, it's not necessary to denounce God, not would it be of any service. Contrarily, it's not necessary to use it as an interventional method on RUclips. It's probably better to suggest prevention or intervention on this forum, or debate the legitimacy of the disease and/or expose the ruse that some explain is the pretext, keeping patients addicted to the products that Big Pharma provides. The God debate is intrinsic to the therapy of the individual and does little to help, considering the divisiveness of the subject matter.
I feel sorry for this woman , she looks kind to me , she doesn't deserve going through this horrible depression.
