Lyrics:
Long off and far away, I heard a little tune
Struck by the harmony, the world began to move
High, the king sat admiring the view
Dolls and angels all were dancing in the hues
Come tell me, I’m listening
I’ll follow where you go
Keep singing that melody
The sound will guide me home
Stuck at the borderline, the student seeks the light
While plucking lilies in the solitude of night
Lonely children had struggled to survive
Hiding demons as the fox began to smile
Come tell me, I’m listening
I’ll follow where you go
Keep singing that melody
The sound will guide me home
I wonder when I’m older if I’ll find the reason why
I couldn’t shed a single tear the day the music died
When August faded out of sight, in clear transparent skies
All the scraps that we had left behind waved softly as they said goodbye
When autumn showed its face, the parents left the stage
Dreaming forever, in the stories that they gave
Laughing brightly, the nights we burned away
Took the strobing to a place avoid of pain
Come tell me, I’m listening
I’ll follow where you go
Keep singing that melody
The sound will guide me home
I saw a vision of a girl within the snow
Her body broken down from rolling all alone
Bowing kindly, the king had left his throne
Chasing moonlight to a world I’ll never know
Come tell me, I’m listening
I’ll follow where you go
Keep singing that melody
The sound will guide me home
I wonder when I’m older if I’ll find the reason why
I couldn’t shed a single tear the day the music died
When chasing hints of better skies, it all had passed me by
Every note that you had given me’s a gift I’ll keep for life
So tell me, I’m listening
I’ll follow where you go
Keep singing that melody
The sound will guide me home
I wonder in my youth if I had cherished you enough
I’ll write the pain in paper planes to show you what I loved
Each time I hear a melody, I’m always looking up
For now and many years to come, your sound is what I’m dreaming of

Beautiful as always Mr. Box, absolutely breathtaking. This indeed was a love letter to Vocaloid in a way I don't really see with other songs in a similar vein. The personal touches, the references to each song that holds a special place in your heart, this was a song written by someone who loves and deeply cares about what they are writing about, not a single hint of superficiality or insincerity. You grew up with Vocaloid, and view it as one might view a work of literature or a classic painting, hung up for the eyes of millions to see and appreciate. One thing that really means a lot when you speak about the loss of the golden age of Vocaloid, is that you never outright insult the modern age. While the songs may not change your heart the way the works of Jin, Mothy, or early Neru might have, they are still entering the hearts and shaping younger generations, as those songs did you. Vocaloid is always changing, and while it may not be in ways we enjoy, it is our job to not steal the torch and extinguish the flame once it does not serve its purpose, but instead to pass it on and let others do with it as they choose.
Hatsune Miku is not a god, she is not a diva, she is not a person, and she isn't even software at this point either. She is an idea, a symbol, a representation of the idea of loving music, loving stories, loving self-expression, and learning to love life. Because no more do you have to just sit and be cynical as the world changes and grows, but instead you can instead contribute to it, and be the change you want to see. You don't need thousands of dollars for equipment and vocal lessons, all you need is a computer, and a girl with two teal twin tails and a leak who is ready to sing your vision into reality.
I’m using this song as a reminder for myself that the vocaloid I was raised on has ‘died,’ vocaloid itself hasn’t. While the demand for full production and consistent albums has changed the way many producers present their music, Vocaloid’s core- sharing messages and stories by us for us- hasn’t gone away. That’s why even if vocaloid’s changed, “I couldn’t shed a single tear the day the music died.” As long as that stays, I’ll continue to remind myself to give the newer music a shot.
This is just so nostalgic and heart felt
this is one of my favorite english vocaloid songs :)
Maybe an off vocal for covers is also appreciated
