Spitfire's BEST Street Skating Wheel Is.....

  • I thought the Spitfire OG Classics were the best street skating wheel besides the riding surface being so wide that it grips to the side of the ledges every time I tried to do backside tail slides!
    I thought if I go down to a slimmer wheel like the Spitfire Conicals that still has quite a wide riding surface then I can keep all the benefits of having a wider wheel but reduce the friction that comes with such a wide riding surface 🤔
    This video shows me my first impressions of skating the Spitfire conicals and my recommendations for people looking for the perfect street skating wheel...
    Let me know what you guys think below 👇🏼

    Try out the thinner riser pads from thunder it'll bring your baseplate up to the standard team baseplate height that's what i do when i skate a bigger wheel i dont wanna add extra weight or change my trucks so the thinner risers do come in handy plus they act as a little shock absorber being decoupled from the board you feel less vibration when riding on rougher ground

    Hi Leon, great video!!
    I got a question for you: I've been riding my thunder 148 hollow lights (hollow axle, hollow kingpin) for about 4 months. And so far these are my favorite trucks of all time. However, I noticed that my back truck axle has bent, does this have happened to you before? Im very confused since I only ride them occasionally and just do low impact with some ledge/curve skating. Would you suggest getting the ones that come with only the hollow kingpin? Maybe a solid axle would be more reliable?

      I love them! They are very big with an huge riding surface, making them perfect for transition.
      It is defenitly harder to do complex flip tricks in them (heavy...), but i kinda like it more this way because it makes it more pleasurable (like seeing the tricks in slow motion).
      97a makes them perfect for just cruising around as well as do power slides in the hard streets.

    Hey dude nice review and skating. I ride the regular conicals but excited about trying the fulls. I have been doing alot of experimenting with wheel size and truck height lately. I don't know the exact height of the hollow light trucks I ride but I know they are lower than the standard Thunder trucks because my baseplates are thinner. And I ride 54mm wheels too so I do get wheel bite but I'm not usually jumping down big stuff or doing sharp turns so I don't get it very often plus I usually wax where the wheel bite happens so if it does happen I can ride straight out of it 👌🏼
      Riser pads can definitely help too though!

    Curious - do you think there is a weight difference between the same size wheel conical vs. classics? Which do you like better as an all rounder?
    I am a street guy, don't skate rough areas really, love flip tricks, ramps, rails and the occasional mini ramp/bowls. Curious your thoughts.
    I am getting back into skating for the first time since the late 90's and boy has so much changed. Way too many options lol. Here is my setup - I ended up getting a Toy Machine 8.0" deck with Independent Silver stage 11 - 139's and Spitfire 99du 56mm classics - the thing weighs a tank and my board is so vertical by the time I get any pop, it's also way harder to flip due to the weight. So now I'm reverse engineering to try to solve the weight/pop problem. Definitely going down in size from a 56mm wheel for more pop and weight relief, possibly need to Frankenstein my trucks or get new trucks all over again. Looking for stability also with flip trips, and these conicals sound attractive. Speed matters to me too, not sure the pro's vs. con's of the conical vs classic shape in terms of flip tricks, stability and speed. Appreciate your thoughts man and thanks for your videos and help!

    • @LeonPaxton
      @LeonPaxton  Год назад

      There would be since they are different shapes and would definitely have a different mass profile but wether or not you would feel it is the question! You might feel that the conicals are slightly lighter but the conical fulls would feel really similar to the weight of the OG classics.
      I would say conicals would be better as all rounder since it has the square cut profile and wide riding surface but has more of a rounded edge which will help with more technical skating.
      That's sick man, welcome back!
      Yeah dude, 56mm wheels are pretty big, especially for your set up! You would probably be better suited to a 52mm-54mm wheel and that would put you lower to the ground which would give you a faster pop since your tail will hit the ground sooner 👌🏼 The other thing you could do if that still doesn't help is get a flatter concave deck so your tail will be even closer to the ground for a faster pop or try some hollow trucks to reduce the over all weight of you set up. Hope that helps man!
      No problem man 🙏🏼

    Thank you so much for this awesome review! I was really wondering about OG Classic vs Conical (Full).
    In my mind, the OGs were better for tech/street than Conicals because they have a skinnier profile, and yet have a noticeably greater riding surface (so smoother riding and more stability for tricks/landing). But it sounds like Conicals have the perfect balance of stability, flippiness, smooth riding and gliding. I guess this just strengthens the case for the Conical shape being so popular.
    Have you tried the Conical Fulls? Do they feel any different?

    • @LeonPaxton
      @LeonPaxton  Год назад +1

      No problem dude, thanks for watching 🙏🏼
      Yeah dude, they are definitely very similar wheels and would still depend on what kind of skating you want to do but Conicals are just so versatile 👌🏼
      I haven't tried Conical Fulls yet but it is the exact same wheel that is slightly wider and has a slightly wider riding surface so I would consider that wheel if I end up skating more rough skate spots more regularly

    Hey bro, i just got spitfire classics 52mm 99a du and they are rounded not conicals, I live in the UK where the ground is quite rough on the streets, the wheels rolled really well on smooth surfaces but not well on rougher surfaces which cover a lot of UK road and pavement, so I was wondering what u recommend (maybe the ones in this video?) as I want to ride the skatepark and do grinds while also able to cover distance and ride street and pavement to get to places without having a cruiser set up. Nice video. could you also link the wheels u got?

    • @LeonPaxton
      @LeonPaxton  Год назад

      Yeah dude, the classics have such a smaller riding surface that rough parks and spots feel horrible!
      If you still want to do grinds and other tricks but have a smoother ride on rough surfaces then I would definitely recommend a 99 duro wheel with a wider riding surface so maybe the OG classics in this video or a Conical full or even radial full
