You mean the Originals ones and not diseny? Real ones: Red riding hood, learnt to read with this one, since i am german, i dont know if it is written correctly, in german its Rotkäppchen 😊❤
That scene where Maleficent wakes up to realize her wings have been taken is so impactful. It mirrors what waking up to being drugged and taken advantage of, and the feeling of knowing something has been taken from you that you can never have back. I was so emotional during that scene. Those who have been through will likely have been touched by this scene. That scene and Angelina’s acting are just amazing, the movie overall is great!
I cried on an airplane the first time I saw that scene, and I still get teary when she screams realizing what he's taken from her. I agree Angelina was amazing in this movie.
I believe this was the first project she worked on after her double mastectomy. watching this movie after hearing the news, especially after that specific scene, i thought she nailed it, but felt very tragic at the same time. I could only imagine what she was feeling filming that scene.
This is not a "Disney live-action remake." Rather it is a Disney live-action "Re-Imagining" of the Sleeping Beauty story, from the perspective of Maleficent showing that the villain may not seem so "villainous" if you understand their motivations.
yeah, it's kinda like "WIcked". where (at least in the book, i haven't seen the play) the entire story of The Wizard Of Oz was actually this huge misunderstanding, combined with a little "embellishment of the victor". That Elphaba, the "wicked" witch of the west, was actually a good person (and pretty, just had green skin), but a series of accidents and misunderstandings made her look evil. that glinda the "good" witch of the north, was actually a jealous narcissist, OZ was a liar and instigator, and so on.
Well, for me (and what the movie show) is from the perspective of Aurora and the original literally a "story". Like this one shows the real story and the animated just what people heard.
This is what the remakes should have been. Between this, The Jungle Book, Christopher Robin, Cruella, and Cinderella, it really shows how the Disney remakes worked best when they expanded on or created alternate versions of their older films of the 1950s-1970s. That's why 2019 marked the end of "good" Disney remakes: because they tried to redo the already-acclaimed films of the Disney Renaissance to mixed results, unveiling the true profit-driven motivation behind this fad from the facade of creative imagination spurred on by the Revival Era.
It makes a lot of sense for Maleficent to stop believing in True Love's Kiss because Stefan was the one who told her about it. Also this movie does a really good job of showing Maleficent as not a monster, she just wants vengeance. They even showed the scene of Maleficent with the deer and then again with Aurora. Maleficent and Aurora are very similar in terms of personality in this movie.
The sequel was actually much better than the first film in my opinion. At least it had an original story and the male characters were better utilized there than in the first film.
@@xgray2012 I haven't seen the sequel yet,but I think the first movie was just trying to tell one story instead of trying to cram so much into one movie.
@@alinacarrasquillo34 if u have seen Alita u know him, the bounty hunter with a sword whos cyborg face was cut off by alita with hes own sword, that actor is in this movie
So the fact that Stefan invited everyone but Maleficent was a political slap in the face as she is the ruler of the neighboring country. People went to war over offenses like that. So that she showed up without invitation, chose not to be offended, and then offered a gift was her version of go f* yourself. Then, he further humiliates himself by refusing a voluntary gift from a purposefully uninvited guest in front of all of his political enemies and allies. She gutted him by revealing his character as a leader and utter lack of political acumen.
Yep, and then to invite Flora Fauna and Merriweather but not Maleficent was an even greater insult. It's kind of an all or nothing. He specifically didn't invite just her. And you can see the Queen try to be diplomatic and Stefan is an ass again. (not that the Queen could have done much at that point to appease Maleficent as the queen is a symbol of the reason Stefan did what he did to Maleficent)
That's all fine and well in the original old fairy tales (especially due to the time periods associated with them), but doesn't work in the Sleeping Beauty movie or Maleficent movie. In Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent wasn't just a powerful ruler of a neighboring country, but an evil sorceress "with all the powers of Hell" that the other 3 fairies knew well. Inviting an evil sadistic murderous Satanic worshiping Hell-powered sorceress with vast dark magic to a "Christ"ening would be a recipe for disaster and far more dangerous than inviting a mere drug lord or crazy despot. Further, even when Maleficent discovers she wasn't invited we see her tone and facial expressions don't change much implying that's not important to her. This is in stark contrast when she actually curses the baby "to die" and we see her face light up with excitement and her villainous laughter proving her sadistic nature is what truly motivates her. This is reinforced later in the film when she captures Phillip and doesn't kill him, but instead wants to slowly torture him over years instead. In the Maleficent movie, Maleficent oddly leaves Stefan alone after he mutilates her despite her and her undefeated army being vastly more powerful. Unlike most other stories, we see Maleficent is offended immediately after learning her ex-boyfriend had a child with another female and that causes her to invade his castle, not because of any lack of invitation to a party. Maleficent's curse is also weaker here and a paradox. If Stefan (or his wife) "truly love" Aurora then once they kiss her the curse will be broken and if Stefan didn't "truly love" Aurora then the curse doesn't truly hurt him, especially since he didn't betray Maleficent because he wanted a baby. Sure Stefan was humiliated, but that's a small price since he was a stupid poor untalented thief just a few years ago and still got to keep all the things he truly wanted (power, gold and king's title) for 16+years.
33:56 Ouch~ You know who else I really felt for in this story? Aurora's biological mother. She never got to see Aurora again, after they sent her away for her protection, before she died. With this one, more so than the animated, you really get the idea she probably felt she couldn't keep her child from being sent away or demand she be brought back to her, not against Stefan. And even if she was maybe trying to request that of Stefan, as she was sick & dying, he didn't go see her...
Crows actually mate for life, they strengthen their bonds by doing synchronised flying, tricks, falls etc so yeah, I’d say Diaval knows what he’s talking about 😂
The scene when she wakes and realizes he’s cut off her wings is so powerful. I’ve read that it was meant to be a metaphor for rape, and it definitely translates. The hurt, the anger, the humiliation, but most of all, the violation in her face face and her voice is haunting.
Oh, and fun fact: in the original, the battle over the dress color, with one of the fairies preferring blue, and the other preferring pink, was actually satire, a social commentary on debates going on at the time. at the time the movie was being made there was a public debate over which color was appropriate for which gender. there was a growing movement of people believing that they should start going against tradition, and changing the colors. See, up until that point, blue had been a girl's color, and pink was for boys. But more and more people were saying it should be the other way. Pink for girls and blue for boys. eventually that group won out. You can see the change happen if you look what the women and girls in disney animated films wore before and after sleeping beauty.
Another funny thing is in the animated Cinderella, her dress is silver not blue. It wasn't until later that her dress became blue for merchandising. Probably thought the color would "pop" more.
This one is definitely my favorite "remake." It has the strongest story, the most original plot, and a great aesthetic. It also had a REALLY good message about taking responsibility for your actions, and consent. Stephan getting paranoid because he knew what he did to Maleficent is one example, but so is Philip's kiss not working. Attraction doesn't equal consent (or love) so it makes perfect sense that it didn't work.
4:05 iron as a weakness to fairies/faeries (and even sometimes elves) is a common theme in old and modern fae stories. The effects varies, sometimes it burns, repels, only able to hurt/die by iron weapons, etc. Examples I can think of off the top of my head are Lost Girl (tv series), Black Witch Chronicles by Laurie Forest (book series), True Blood series (I think, at least the pure-blood fae), Faerie Path series by Allan Frewin Jones (book series)
If you are ever looking for another series, Seanan McGuire does a great job interpreting fae lore into a modern urban fantasy take with her October Daye series.
Some think that iron being a Fae weakness is part of the reason people hang horseshoes above their door. (then the reason was changed to suit Christianity and to ward against witches and the devil)
I ADORE this remake. It’s so refreshing to see a fairytale story where the characters aren’t black and white. Maleficent is angry and grief stricken do to her being alone and then the one person she thought she could trust took her most valuable piece of her. Even still she only ever wanted to hurt him and never truly Aurora, she just new Aurora was the best way to get back at him. I think it’s sweet that Aurora was just so comfortable around Maleficent and despite the fact everyone saw the bad in her, Aurora only saw the good, which in the end made Maleficent forgive and forge a new loving relationship with the girl she had once wished was taken from her father, the way her father took her wings. I just LOVE this movie. Not to mention all the fairies in the Moors are absolutely ADORABLE. ❤ Also just realized, but the actress that plays Knotgrass, the red fairy, is Imelda Staunton, the woman who plays Umbridge in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix! Never put that together!
Angelina revealed to be a true queen bringing life and sovereignty into Maleficent's character. She's luxurious like a noble born maiden, but lives in the wild. She has an authority stronger than a man's, but still remains enchanting at heart. I praised her for this role
This is one of the few live action remakes that I enjoy from Disney, it's creative, puts a unique spin on things, but also still captures Aurora's essence. They don't try to modernise her, she is kind and pure and that's what makes Maleficent love her. The sequel is also good :)
I think most of them especially Stella at 45:42-45:56 are unsure if they would do a reaction of _Maleficent: Mistress of Evil_ at a later point, considering it wasn’t as good as the first _Maleficent_ film and Stella isn’t wrong on that considering the first film ended perfectly and she didn’t want the sequel to ruin the first film’s ending.
@@amandamichelle9426 I’m not against the sequel or am in agreement with all four of them, far from it, it’s as I said if you go to the 45:42-45:56 mark at the end of the video, most of them especially Stella are unsure and skeptical if they would do a reaction of _Maleficent: Mistress of Evil_ at a later point considering it wasn’t as good (which is subjective) as the first _Maleficent_ film and Stella felt that the first film ended perfectly and she didn’t want the sequel to ruin the first film’s ending. So, Again I would love to see them react to _Maleficent Mistress of Evil_ to have their opinion on that film and how it compares to the first _Maleficent_ film, however their skepticism and uncertainty from all four them especially Stella at the 45:42 mark makes me think they might skip and not react to the sequel, even the same can be said for all four of them not reacting to _Pacific Rim: Uprising_ despite reacting to the first _Pacific Rim_ film back in May.
I loved this retelling of a classic tale, and I loved how they altered the 3 little fairies. Even as as kid i had thought it odd that the 3 fairies would show up to the birth of Aurora if the two kingdoms were not on good terms, and that this telling made those 3 out to be individuals with 'well intentions poor execution' helped it make sense for me. rewatching you can see almost every action those 3 faries take is intended to help but never really ends up helping in the way they intend...or at all. Its easier for me to believe that they had gone to the kingdom to help try and keep peace or bridge the widening gap between the two kingdoms since they could clearly see Maleficent wasn't going to be doing anything about it except defend the moors. Very very small aside, long ago I head a hot take from a content creator who had done their reasearch into european fairy lore (in so far as how fae/fey creatures acted, what was important/known about the fae, and what powers they had) and had a very jucy bone to pikc with the original Disney story. Fast summary is that the Fey in european lore hold very strictly to rules of decorum and have almost unlimited power if givent the right payments. So! this creators biggest insight into Disney's first retelling is that even in the animated version, the king and Queen brought Aurora's fate on to her all by themselves. Heres how she got there: in the original telling all important nobles were invited to the celebration of Aurora's birth - all things considered and in the original Maleficent was not a direct enemy of the kingdom so this invitations would and SHOULD have included her; this goes especially because the 3 fairies were specifically invited to the birth of the princess (faries that ranked lower than malefficent in the fey kingdom). SO, when in the original Maleficent still shows up and gives the king an out by saying 'my invitation must have gotten lost aka. I know you wouldn't be dumb enought to not invite me" and the response she gets (I think from the blue fairy) is that the truth is she wasn't invited intentionally - Maleficent realized she had been personally slighted by the King, and if anyone knows anything about european mythos you know you dont insult a fae without consequences. its for this slight the lack of invitation to an event meant to include all nobility and even gentry that Maleficent (correctly) interprets as an acti of aggression and so respoinds in kind by cursing the very purpose of the party in the first place, the little Aurora. From Maleficent's point of view she's even being lenient by giving the child time to grow up, live life, and have a chance of removing the curse if she can find love. While this clearly isn't the take that disney ran with, and I am very very happy with the story we got, I feel like you can sense that Disney did research into european fae lore when helping Angelia figure out how they wanted Maleficent to behave and respond to various events in the story. To me, the live action interpretation of Maleficent really felt like a fae/fey from european myths and it make the movie that much more enjoyable :)
The "fairy tale retold from the villain's pov" genre is actually pretty new. It started with the publication of Wicked in 1995 and has gone into overdrive with the success of the musical.
I can understand most of you being unsure and skeptical especially Stella at 45:42-45:56, if you would do a reaction of _Maleficent: Mistress of Evil_ at a later point considering it wasn’t as good as the first _Maleficent_ film to most of you including Stella, as the first film ended perfectly and all of you didn’t want the sequel to ruin the first film’s ending. However, I do recommend you give the sequel a chance as the second film is an original story and includes several new characters played by actors that you’ve seen in other reactions before such as Warwick Davis, Chiwetel Ejofor, Michelle Pfeiffer and Ed Skrein the latter actor who played the main bad guy in _Deadpool (2016)_ and also Zapan in _Alita_ In fact, it also wouldn’t surprise me if this was also the reason why all of you have not reacted to _Pacific Rim: Uprising_ following your reaction to _Pacific Rim_ back in May considering how Uprising was a step backwards from the first _Pacific Rim._ But then again, most of you have reacted to The Meg films including _Meg 2: The Trench_ which the latter film wasn’t as good as the first Meg film, but you still reacted to it regardless of the problems and expressed your criticisms of that film at the end of the reaction. So if you don’t want to react to _Maleficent: Mistress of Evil_ that’s your choice @whitenoisereacts but it would be a missed opportunity to have you guys skip out on the sequel and not give your opinions/discussions on that film.
I enjoyed this reaction! This movie is always nice to revisit. The true love's kiss being non-romantic was such a beautiful twist on this story that worked so well and it's nice to see it resonated with y'all too. I loved the points y'all brought up in the end. Such as James' comment (40:40) about fairytales uniquely having a tradition of retellings and I agree this film beautifully continues in that tradition. I get what Stella said about this movie feeling more creative than newer live-action remakes and yes I'd definitely agree it feels more inspired. This goes in line with Hayley's points (41:10) about utilizing various mediums skillfully and artistically!! I appreciated how that was articulated and it's something I'll be applying to my reflections of other projects that explore other mediums!!
She was so unfazed about unknown things and happy because her being happy all her life was one of her gifts from the fairy it was a nice touch and when she learns about stuff that causes bad energy then she realizes
The scene where she looses her wings is so heartbraking because that is the moment she was betrayed by someone she thought she could trust and even more so, someone she loved. I love how when Malifacent is angry her eyes glow with a green tinge that is how you know she is about to do something or use her magic in anger also I love how Angelina does the little sounds as if she is upset and then laughs when facing Stephan at the party before cursing Aurora. This movie is not a remake nor a live action of the disney movie it is it's own thing that is based on the Sleeping Beauty disney movie that is all and the same goes for Mulan though that one was not at all based on the disney it was actually created based on the real life ledgend of Mulan so no connection to me any way. I love this movie so much and the fact that the kiss doesn't have to be one that comes from a prince is an amazing idea to me...true love can be between a daughter and her child and that is so true. Angelina plays her so well and the scene where little aurora touches her horns that was actually Angelina's real life daughter because she was the only one not scared of the way her mother looked in the costume haha so cute. Grate reaction as always guys and there is a second one but I didn't really like it that much honostly.
I haven’t seen this movie in a long time… I do love the design of Maleficent’s fairy wings! And I like Elle Fanning’s approach to Aurora - she’s so wonderful.💛
I was admittingly too stuck on the original animated film to enjoy this for what it is the first time I saw it, but it quickly grew on me after rewatching, now its one of my favorites of the live action retelling era.
I... absolutely.... LOVED this outing with you four! Especially considering you'd seen it before and then at some point you realized you didn't want to talk over it; so beautiful. All your giddyness and glee and joy was wonderful... and I'm wondering if it could be done with those Huntsman movies?
I’m impressed you’re reaction to _Maleficent_ skyrocketed to almost 30k views considering your _Warcraft_ and _Willow_ reactions took a week to two weeks to reach 30k views. EDIT: Now their reaction to _Maleficent_ has reached 50k+ views four days later surpassing their previous film group reactions 3-5 weeks ago.
@whitenoisereacts. to answer your question, both the baby AND the 3-4 year old Aurora were played by Angelina's kids because they were the only ones that would not cry when she approached her in full costume. Also one of her sons has a cameo in the christening scene as being a courtiers kid.
Also, to make a live action that feels more current, more nuanced, and still Entertainment and beautiful Is an accomplishment. I agree with all of you guys, specially Stella ❤
My biggest problem with the Disney remakes is that they are such missed opportunities. Often they will try do something different to justify their existence, but those rarely are allowed to actually flurish into anything, as they are constantly undercut by the ball and chain of having to include Iconic Disney Moments (TM), leading to many films feeling like there was no reason to make them beyond "popular Disney animated movie = popular live action movie = profit", and then they just hired people to figure out how to do that as a secondary concern. Sometimes those two things just end up conflicting with eachother in a way that makes it seem like the creators didn't understand the themes and characters of the original in the first place (Pinnochio), sometimes they try to "fix" something, but because they can't change "too much", they end up making the implications worse (Lion King and it's treatment of hyenas). Malificent actually feel like someone had an idea they wanted to do and then just commited to it; to see how much they could twist the original story without really changing much of the original plot (except the very end), but just by adding context and changing POV and framing. Burton's Alice (as much as some people rag on it) at-least also felt like someone had an idea. Pete's Dragon seems more than anything like someone wanted to make a genuine tribute to all those "a kids make friends with supernatural-creature/animal, but the world of adults don't understand"-films of the 80s and 90s, and pitching it as a Disney remake was the only way they'd get their bosses to let them make that. Cinderella did a bit of a milder version of what Malificent did, playing a lot closer to it's source, but at-least was not afraid of changing or cutting "Iconic moments" from the animated film to fit a clear vision of what they wanted to make. Also, apart from Pete's Dragon possibly being a trojan horse pitch, the films rarely seem to be picked from a desire to actual do something with the title. Like if someone asked you what Disney films you think could benefit from a possibly darker redo how many of the films they've actually made would come to mind? Personally I would go for for example: A more faithfull adaption of the Black Cauldron, something fans of those books have been wanting for decades but has been hard due to the rights being tied-up with Disney, or an adaption of the Hunchback of Notre Dame musical that did all those things they wouldn't get away with in the original movie, but without the limitations of having to be on stage. Even Mulan, which is very different from the animated film, feels like they were just told to make a Mulan film, while they actually wanted to make a fantasy movie about a world where women weren't allowed to use magic, and then had to beat that concept with a crowbar until it kinda looked like Mulan, rather than anyone having much interest in doing anything with either the Disney film or the ballad it's based on.
33:22 Not too long ago, I read a summary for a book that is an official Disney licensed book that tells Sleeping Beauty from Prince Phillip's perspective *BUT* also adds like a layer that he goes on a quest to do something before he meets "Briar Rose"~ AND~ he starts having dreams where he talks to a girl he knows as Briar Rose~~~ (quick reminder: in the original Aurora's name when she's living with the fairies is Briar Rose & Once Upon a Dream is the love song her and Phillip sing when they meet, right after Aurora had just been telling the forest animals she met someone in her dreams) I thought "that's an interesting way of maybe fixing the love at first sight problem Disney's love stories often have; wish they did something like that sooner and in their movies". I think there was also a book before it in the series focused around Eric from The Little Mermaid where Eric is cursed, something like he'll die if he kisses the wrong person(???) which adds to why he's reluctant to kiss Ariel when he really meets her~~~
So when Maleficent came out Angelina only had one child if I'm not mistaken, her daughter Shiloh. She is the little girl running in the field and falls off the cliff. Other children would get scared and cry at the sight of Angeline in costume, but Shiloh just saw her mommy and smiled. Even the scene where Maleficent picks her up and she plays with her horns, it was just mommy and daughter play time lol, so cute. Stella is right though it was just Shiloh, the infant is not Angelina's child.
I love redemption stories in general, so I was drawn to this interpretation, and i was glad they stuck with the premise of her not actually being evil here. it probably is my favorite live action version. tho i do also love The Jungle Book alot. I thought that was another that changed things up enough to justify its existence. i don't think doing a shot for shot remake in live action is a bad idea. the look of live action has its own style and things can feel different in live action, then in animation. things that are routine in animation, can look impressive in live action when done right (people flying, for example).
I watched this movie so much I was worried for my sanity lol. It's so good. It's that feel good villain movie that I wanted. She's evil but it says why though it's not some lame reason or anything and it becomes just a beautiful story of family. Not romance. It's just the best
i saw that, originally, maleficent was meant to end up with diaval, but they ended up not doing that (at least, not explicitly) because they wanted to focus on familial love instead of romance. even though i ship them (i will go down with them), i do think that it was a really good choice to do that.
Iron burning burning fairies goes back to traditional fae lore. People believed that iron would repel the fae. Depending on what you read, there are variations of it. Some authors make it so iron kills them, burns them, or is just something they hate, so people would wear iron and place iron around the windows and doors of their homes.
Okay, I love you all for understanding that fairytales have a tradition of being retold. I love fairytales, the whole genre. So hearing you say that soothed me soul. 😭❤️ The only other Disney “remake” I like (actually, I love it very much) is Cinderella. It deepens the story (even answers some common questions about the story) and is told so beautifully.
11:25 It's a small thing, but I like the detail that they have Diaval covered in forest grime, cos any other time they have an animal turn into a human they're perfectly clean after.(and the only way I buy that is if they already groom themselves) 29:29 "Be loved by all who know her" He has her locked up before he can properly know her. 30:50 Maybe cos Aurora is examining her fingertips before she's lured to the spinning wheel.
Yes! I very much agree! I love this movie - especially in terms of Disney's live action remakes. I love that it added to the original and made it it's own thing and not a direct remake. It's not the best but it's truly enjoyable and I like that it had something new to say. I wish it had been like 30 minutes longer though... to give some more development into Stephan's motives and insanity and give Aurora and Phillip at least a couple more scenes together. Like, maybe met a couple times as kids or something. Just so the connection felt more real. I hope you guys watch the sequel! It's excellent! And you get more of her lore!
5:10 the movies never actually confirm it or not, but I feel like the reason Maleficent looks so different to the other fairies is because she's from the Unseelie court while the others are from the Seelie court. In Fae lore, there are two courts of fae - the Seelie and Unseelie. While both are tricksters and either could really be good or evil, the Seelie are typically seen as the more civilized and are all white and gold and silver. The Unseelie are more mysterious and are all blacks and browns and greys. Just a theory.
isn't it just because she's the queen of the fairy kingdom? the most 'high' of the fae rule, and according to lore, the higher a fae is, the more humanoid they are.
So you were right, the toddler that says 'hello' and 'up' and grabs her horns is Angelina and Brad's bio daughter, the baby scenes were (almost) never filmed with her in full costume, they were just cut together in post (I believe)
Thankfully this isn't a remake. It's a reimagining that's why it was so beautiful. It wasn't just a soul-less remake of the original story. I love how seeing the story from her point was so original. Made Maleficent my favourite villain ever. You guys should watch part 2 soon.
This is my favourite live action movie❤ I love this movie. Angelina Jolie really brings this character alive. This movie made me really like Maleficent. I actually like this movie more than the animated Sleeping Beauty movie.
The Scene of when the little girl runs to her and she picks her up and she touches her horns is angelina's actual daughter since any other girl they auditioned was to scared and cried.
4:00 Iron has always burned faeries and "grounded" magic. It may be related to iron affecting things like St. Elmo's Fire, glowing swamp gas, and ball lightning.
I was lowkey shook when I found out Elle Fanning was only 14 in this movie. Usually teenage characters are played by people in their 20s, rarely by actual teenagers, and even more rarely by someone younger than the character. Elle did a great job.
You know I don't often even call this a remake. It was more like a reimagining. This was actually one of my favorites. When it comes down to the live action remakes. Not so much The second one; not saying that it was bad, but not as good as the first. I hope you guys do the live action Remake of The Jungle Book and Alice in wonderland. They were really, very enjoyable.
There is a whole "making of" video where they talk about the CGI done to make Angelina Jolie look more like the Maleficent that we know from Sleeping Beauty.
I thought when I first saw the scene with the wings being removed that it was the most emotionally impactful portrayal of a rape id ever seen. He brought the drug, he planned it etc.
I just like that when she uses magic for cursing or bad things in general her magic is sickly green but when she uses it for neutral things it is pale yellow and for good it is almost golden. And btw When you are watching part 2 ?
I felt so sorry for her. All sorts of magic at her finger tips, even able to make her own curse that even she can’t break. But for some reason, he wings are so majestic that she can’t magically create new ones. Very interesting concept.
This is for me the best ferry tale of all! Disney did a great update from the original story, I identify my self from this story because when some one you love hurt you so much change you and make you hurt your self and other because of that and there's a light in your life can show you the way to believe again in love and redem your life! Love that movie!
Very excited that the _Maleficent_ reaction is now being uploaded today and it wasn’t delayed to next week or two to three weeks from now like what happened to your _Gravity_ Reaction. Overall while this film may not be my favorite of the Disney Live-Action remakes/re-imaginings, Angelina Jolie literally stole the show and was a phenomenal actress portraying the Mistress of Evil herself. Looking forward to your reaction for _Maleficent: Mistress of Evil_ or whichever Disney Live-Action remake next week and I’m still hoping all four of you will react to _The Dark Crystal_ for your fantasy reactions along with reacting to some Christmas movies for next month since December is coming up.
15:48 also it was stephan who gifted Maleficent true love's kiss on Maleficent's own 16th birthday, I think? So, it's like idk mockery of what he did for her before
I dont know about fairy's but iron filings are often portrayed as something harmful to evil forces. For example, in the chronicles of Wardstone (English witcher), Spooks (witchers) carry salt in one pocket and iron filings in the other. Because it's like a pocket sand for monsters.
15:41 I like how it’s clear in this one that she is putting a spell on Aurora to punish her ex who stole part of her body…arrogant… and she’s not the bad one just she then let her emotions get to her and cursed the wrong person.
I enjoyed this movie, to me it's one of the best ones with Cinderella. Although, I really don't understand why they originally called her Maleficent. To me I always assumed it was her reputation that lead people define her and call her like this. Which would have been great to do "She's so evil we don't even know her name, we call her Maleficent" but no, let's just have her named like that, makes sense haha
I’m so confused why the fairies went against Maleficent before she even did anything wrong to the royals. She used to be friends with the small fairies that gave gifts
Three of her kids were in this Vivienne, Pax & Zahara from baby to about 5yr old Aurora. Her daughter Shiloh turned down a role. I really liked seeing Sleeping Beauty from a different angle. I think Disney should do this with other properties as well. They’ve already done 101 Dalmatians with Cruella
Ngl, I really enjoy Angelina Jolie’s performance as the title character. Even though I mostly prefer Eleanor Audley’s take on the dark fairy in Sleeping Beauty, Angelina’s portrayal is a very good one.
I love this movie!! While I do like Maleficent as a pure villain and think it’s ok for a story to have a character be evil for no reason, I loved the twist on this story. All your comments were on point, I like that they didn’t condone when Maleficent did bad but she still had a kindness to her too and a character arc.
9:40 or like angelina talked about using as her inspiration for her acting in that scene, its like being drugged and r--ed, waking up to that pain, not knowing what happened but also knowing *exactly* what happened. having something taken from you you can't get back. and from someone you thought you could trust. just as actual SA statistics show, is usually perpetrated by someone that the victim knows rather than a stranger. knowing that is the direction her acting is coming from, makes the scene much harder to watch. i can only hope she doesnt have first hand experiences that she's drawing from, because that acting is phenomenal.
I liked these types of remakes because it told its own story and didn't rely on the original versions. It had its own thing to add to the story and had a purpose for existing.
In the animated series Disney's Gargoyles, it is mentioned that iron can harm and trap those of the third race, Oberon's Children, which included the fae.
What is your favorite Grimm's Fairy Tale?
Tbh, I don’t really have one.
Snow White and Rapunzel
Personally love the glass coffin
I don't know the name, but a guy caught death and no one could die
You mean the Originals ones and not diseny? Real ones: Red riding hood, learnt to read with this one, since i am german, i dont know if it is written correctly, in german its Rotkäppchen 😊❤
That scene where Maleficent wakes up to realize her wings have been taken is so impactful. It mirrors what waking up to being drugged and taken advantage of, and the feeling of knowing something has been taken from you that you can never have back. I was so emotional during that scene. Those who have been through will likely have been touched by this scene. That scene and Angelina’s acting are just amazing, the movie overall is great!
Agree
Yes. Those wails of intense grief go straight to the bone.
I cried on an airplane the first time I saw that scene, and I still get teary when she screams realizing what he's taken from her. I agree Angelina was amazing in this movie.
Absolutely agree. Never thought of it like that, but it makes this scene have so many more layers of loss and grief.
I believe this was the first project she worked on after her double mastectomy. watching this movie after hearing the news, especially after that specific scene, i thought she nailed it, but felt very tragic at the same time. I could only imagine what she was feeling filming that scene.
Angelina Jolie really brings so much style and elegance to this role. Maleficent went from my hated villain to my favorite
Fr❤
I love that Maleficent can refer to Aurora as "Beasty" and make it a total endearment.
I named my cat Beastie because this is one of my mum's favourite films

I wish they did all their "live action remakes" like this honestly. A new way of telling the story, but still familiar.
@@Schnippsexactly what a remake should be! I loved maleficent, Cinderella, Aladdin, and that's it....
@@alinacarrasquillo34 its interesting and fun and also explains what melificent is and where she actually came from, it adds to the story
And even if she was maybe trying to request that of Stefan, as she was sick & dying, he didn't go see her...
not to mention that stefan says true love doesn’t exist?? after his queen dies is crazy 😭 me personally i’d come back to haunt him
Crows actually mate for life, they strengthen their bonds by doing synchronised flying, tricks, falls etc so yeah, I’d say Diaval knows what he’s talking about 😂
The scene when she wakes and realizes he’s cut off her wings is so powerful.
Marion Zimmer Bradley "the House Between the Worlds" is excellent.
If you are ever looking for another series, Seanan McGuire does a great job interpreting fae lore into a modern urban fantasy take with her October Daye series.
Some think that iron being a Fae weakness is part of the reason people hang horseshoes above their door. (then the reason was changed to suit Christianity and to ward against witches and the devil)
stefan did her so dirty but got surprised she came back to curse his daughter like sir ??? what did you expect 😹
Also I love how Prince Philip didn't feel right about kissing Aurora in her sleep and was hesitant to kiss because of the enchantment.
Maleficent is SO GOOD! I love how they adapted all the characters with a nice twist
Wow I watch maleficent mistress of evil and was amazing like maleficent 😊
Angelina revealed to be a true queen bringing life and sovereignty into Maleficent's character. She's luxurious like a noble born maiden, but lives in the wild. She has an authority stronger than a man's, but still remains enchanting at heart. I praised her for this role
Maleficent is actually a combination of two words yes Malevolent but "Magnificent" as well.
I love Angelina Jolie and she did a great job playing the character.
This is the only live action remake of Disney I like besides lily James Cinderella
@@EChacon Whaaaat?!? I thought the sequel was even BETTER!! Loved it!
Maybe better off not watching the sequel
Maleficent raising Aurora as her own daughter in the movie is heartwarming.
However, I do recommend you give the sequel a chance as the second film is an original story and includes several new characters played by actors that you’ve seen in other reactions before such as Warwick Davis, Chiwetel Ejofor, Michelle Pfeiffer and Ed Skrein the latter actor who played the main bad guy in _Deadpool (2016)_ and also Zapan in _Alita_
In fact, it also wouldn’t surprise me if this was also the reason why all of you have not reacted to _Pacific Rim: Uprising_ following your reaction to _Pacific Rim_ back in May considering how Uprising was a step backwards from the first _Pacific Rim._ But then again, most of you have reacted to The Meg films including _Meg 2: The Trench_ which the latter film wasn’t as good as the first Meg film, but you still reacted to it regardless of the problems and expressed your criticisms of that film at the end of the reaction.
So if you don’t want to react to _Maleficent: Mistress of Evil_ that’s your choice @whitenoisereacts but it would be a missed opportunity to have you guys skip out on the sequel and not give your opinions/discussions on that film.
I say you skip the sequel
@@Peacemaker2024-A9TI think they should give the sequel a chance
This is one of my favorite movie; it was so emotional for me because of how genuine motherly love can be. It is something else amongst Disney Movies.
The sequel is so worth it! I would argue that it's either on par or just a little better than this one.
This has to be my favorite kind of remake it's got so much hart and the story is actually beautiful
Aladdin live-action is also really good and fun!! it is one of the live actions remakes that you can see the heart and passion that went into it!
Same it’s actually one of my top three favorite Disney Live-Action remakes after _Cinderella_ and _The Jungle Book (2016)_
@EChacon The Jungle Book has been remade many times. Both cartoon and live-action. The original is actually live-action
I like the recent Remake of Jungle Book with Bill Murray as Baloo and Black widow as KAA
The little girl that she picks up is her daughter Vivienne not Shiloh.
A Disney film that I think you guys should react to is Meet the Robinson, it’s very underrated.
The only other Disney “remake” I like (actually, I love it very much) is Cinderella. It deepens the story (even answers some common questions about the story) and is told so beautifully.
11:25 It's a small thing, but I like the detail that they have Diaval covered in forest grime, cos any other time they have an animal turn into a human they're perfectly clean after.(and the only way I buy that is if they already groom themselves)
29:29 "Be loved by all who know her" He has her locked up before he can properly know her.
I love this! Since Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland I have hoped for more reactions on the live actions. Please do more!
One of my favorite grimm fairy tales!! I love the four of you guys reactions!! ♥️♥️♥️
The Scene of when the little girl runs to her and she picks her up and she touches her horns is angelina's actual daughter since any other girl they auditioned was to scared and cried.
This is such a very good retelling of the story. I hadn't expected much, but I really liked it when I watched it.
4:00 Iron has always burned faeries and "grounded" magic. It may be related to iron affecting things like St. Elmo's Fire, glowing swamp gas, and ball lightning.
I’m not a big fan of Angelina Jolie but the casting was spot on!
I love the Disney live action versions, I think they're doing a great job.
Me too.
That purple lipstick with those glasses are everything
Yes!! Cinderella is my favourite Disney live action. Looking forward to it.
Yes I’m so excited
I love when you 4 react, its so entertaining. I love this movie so I’m excited. Let me get my snacks for this.
Fun fact, Malificent’s wings weren’t CGI. Angelina Jolie just does that naturally.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
yep. its why she has angel in her name
This is for me the best ferry tale of all! Disney did a great update from the original story, I identify my self from this story because when some one you love hurt you so much change you and make you hurt your self and other because of that and there's a light in your life can show you the way to believe again in love and redem your life! Love that movie!
Iron burning fairies is a central tenet of most Germanic and British folklore.
I love that Philip’s kiss didn’t work. How could it be true love when he doesn’t even know anything about her.
So, it's like idk mockery of what he did for her before
Disney does these remakes so they can keep their copyrights that are about to expire
I dont know about fairy's but iron filings are often portrayed as something harmful to evil forces. For example, in the chronicles of Wardstone (English witcher), Spooks (witchers) carry salt in one pocket and iron filings in the other. Because it's like a pocket sand for monsters.
I love this take on the story as it’s changed it but also not really as we only got one side of the story , so it depends on the view point
What a fantastic snow white reaction 😂 love Angelina in this, she's so charming and elegant ❤
Can't wait to see your reactions to maleficent 2 😇😇
its a good one guys, enjoy!!
YESSSSS IVE LITERALLY REQUESTED THIS SO MANY TIMES
Are you watching the second?
As good as this one was, the SECOND ONE IS EVEN BETTER!! Please, you should all react to the sequel!
The crow is more reponsible at taking care of the baby than those faries 😂
😂
One of the rare movie I got to see in theaters and I'm grateful it was this one. It was so good.
FINALLY!!! I was waiting for this reaction🎉💃
9:40
or like angelina talked about using as her inspiration for her acting in that scene, its like being drugged and r--ed, waking up to that pain, not knowing what happened but also knowing *exactly* what happened. having something taken from you you can't get back.
and from someone you thought you could trust. just as actual SA statistics show, is usually perpetrated by someone that the victim knows rather than a stranger.
knowing that is the direction her acting is coming from, makes the scene much harder to watch. i can only hope she doesnt have first hand experiences that she's drawing from, because that acting is phenomenal.
Stella's eyes are like a neverending, enchanted forest I'd love to roam and muse in infinitely.
Great reaction I can’t wait for you guys to watch the 2nd one
Its ancient lore that rion burns the fae(including fairies, elves, hobs, brownies etc.) It's like silver for werewolves.
the guy with the eyeglasses is sooo cute
I SAID NAME DROP RIGHT NOW!!!!
YES! I LOVE THE MALEFICENT MOVIES! 😊💖🔥
