- I like the images and I like the song, and I had fun putting it together. The 36s (Flu. Redbirds) were delivered in '63-'64 but the basic turtle-back roof SMEE subway cars are a creature of the 1950s and 1010 of the 2800 IRT SMEEs were produced 1956-1959, the subject of this Bollywood song, "1956, 1957, 1958, 1959" - Lata Mangeshkar, Manna_Dey from the film Anari.
Also, the signal system on this line as existing in 2001 was installed in 1956 and just recently replaced.
The video material was recorded on my first DV camcorder tape.

Wonderful memories this vid stirs up seeing the trains that I grew up. Reminds me of my wonderful parents who, while poor, worked hard in this city to raise us the right way and often took us for rides on the IRT. Thank you for posting this.
the 9/11 part got me a little, just reminded me of the bad
I remember the subway series back in the early 2,000’s!
That's my country song
Cool Song! 😀
5:07 wow that took guts to ride the subway that night. How absurd that the bloodbath is casually describes as an "incident at the world trade center"
Meh. I had a line of sight to the towers when 9/11 happened and I think like a lot of people I'm pretty desensitized as a result of that. My recollection is that as the day wore on, most people's thoughts were limited to (a) "What the hell happened? (b) "Is everyone I know ok/can I account for them?" and " (c) "How do I get home now with everything upended?" So with that being said, I'm really not sure what you would have liked them to say. It's an announcement explaining why service is disrupted. It's succinct and factual and that's as it should be. I don't really think the people who make station announcements-and who are also grappling with those same three questions in that moment-can be expected to proffer soaring oratory about the news of the day.
4:54 That must have been right after 9/11, when IIRC slants ran on the M since it replaced the N on the Sea Beach Line. Likewise, the Q had plenty of R32s since it had to cover for the R to Forest Hills.
@Hotters4567 Actually did you know they are rebuilding it is almost done, by completion of 2013
Yo I remember this video I watched back in 2019
Good vid
