Many thanks! I tried my absolute best to recreate that sound, obviously the Cobalt8 isn't an Alpha Juno but it did a pretty good job I felt! =) I still regret not buying a Alpha Juno 2 10 years ago when they were £200!
Great sounds and good discussion in the reactions! I think the Cobalt really shines when the LP filter is more closed. In my opinion the Virus has more power with the filter open. I understand the comparison with the Novation, but especially when the filter is closed more. When opening the filter it sounds (in my opinion) more like a Waldorf. But it has its own character in its own unique way. Really distincusing from the often used other (soft)synths.
Well described and thanks for contributing! I'm glad you liked the demo. =) I totally agree and one of the reasons I still utilise hardware is to try and have a slightly unique sound.
I absolutely will be releasing this bank very soon. All the sequences will be included also per patch. Just a few more sounds to finish. Will be 64 in total.
I own it and it's very easy to get lost for hours making parches. It's very easy to learn too, very intuitive imo. And if you're like me and have your music computer also plug in your tv in front of your couch, you can still use it via the Modal Plugin in your daw and make patches while comfy in PJ. I always highly recommend this synth, for what you get, it's crazy cheap and sounds rly good.
Sasha - expander , and Darude - sandstorm , two seminal dance anthems named after the preset they used. While this may seem cheap or not creative really, when a preset is THAT good it’s just that good .
Now this is dope! I also made Cobalt 8 trance bank. But before 2.1 update. With 2.1 free running oscilators, new filters + drive and effects (chorus 2, phaser 2, reverb 2 etc.) sounds waaaay better.

got it, thanks mate.a good host of sounds here. I have about 5 particular favs for my style of music but you've done a great job :) thanks! @@atomicasounds
Dude really loved this 😀 I’m thinking about getting a cobalt for leads and after ur advice, I have a virus ti2 and love it, looking for something a bit different. Is the cobalt sound very different to the virus? And is it as fun to program as the virus or do u have to use software with it? Sorry with all the questions I’m fairly new to music production 😀
I would say the Cobalt has a slightly more hi-fi sound to the Virus, especially in the higher registers. With regards to a different sound, I guess it would be easier to answer if I knew what style of music you are writing? It has a very wide sound and a nice selection of filter types. I prefer programming the Cobalt8 than the Virus and really enjoy using the sequencer. You can certainly program it without the software but the Modal App is fantastic to use, so I often find myself using a combination of both the hardware and also the software to easily access some of the menu options and FX. Hope that helps! =)
@@atomicasounds ah dude thanks so much for the quick reply :) the type of music I’m writing is ambient but hard, weird but dark, but then chillout. I love weird sounds. I love some trance leads, but also a bit harsher. I have a pro 3 and I’m not really in love with it, I don’t love the sound for leads, I like it for making a weird sound then sampling it and chopping it up. I want to make lead sounds that r awesome plucks and things. Sorry if this is so confusing, I don’t know how better to describe my music, or I should say the music I’m trying to make.
@@DaveS-Ace No worries. I have a Pro3 also and I don't use it for leads, mostly for sequences. The Cobalt8 is probably my fav for Plucks/Leads and Arpeggios. I also have a Argon8 and Hydrasynth which I would fully recommend for Ambient as they can certainly get deeper and weirder being Wavetable synths. One of the benefits of having the Argon8 and Cobalt8 is that once you learn the interface on one you can navigate around on the other in no-time! I also have an UDO Super6 and Kyra which have fantastic binaural leads! =)
Cool sounds. Love trance. That right side of the synth, without any controls, did they do that so you can put a laptop on there? That would be useful if so. Wonder if it would fit a 16" MBP hmmm.
Many thanks! The right side is similar to other synths, such as the Waldorf Blofeld Keys and Nord Lead. I've used the space to rest Desktop synths e.g. I had a NORD Rack 1 sat on my Nord Lead 4 keyboard. You can also place a Behringer desktop synth or a TD3 perfectly. Another possibility is an iPad, as the Modal App works on this platform. I think a laptop might be a little large though. =)
Exellent video . I see you have a Kyra , how do you find it versus the virus ? (workflow , sound , sinpiration , connection with the instruements , build quality ect ...) ?
Thanks for watching! =) The Kyra has a brighter sound, especially above 10k, the Dual mode is really great in adding large stereo width very similar to the UDO Super 6. The Kyra isn't the most intuitive to program as it's quite menu heavy. The build quality is very good however, no different than the Virus. If I had to pick one, it would be the Virus, but they compliment each other. Hope that helps. I hope to do a video comparing them in depth.
@@atomicasounds Thks for the answer , actually the kyra layout is easier on the eyes/ brians than the virus to me , but to be honest i never used seriously a virus .... to bad they stopped production , the form factor of the TI desktop is spot on. both are beast in amibient stuff form what i hear / tried , but i'm curious to see witch one can really be convincing in a more analog classic sounds scenarios . I also have an Access Virus Ti. Would you say this sounds better for trance? I can hear it sounds wide which is part of synth's uniqueness? Did the updated firmware make it sound better? I was also thinking Vengeance Avenger with some sound banks is a similar price. Would you say this sounds nicer?
I wouldn't say it sounds better, just different. I'm currently in the middle of writing a trance track purely with hardware synths. I have the Cobalt8 layered with the Virus and it sounds great. I'm sure a plug-in would sound just as good , but I prefer the creative, hands-on workflow with hardware. I come up with ideas and sounds with hardware synths that i would never have experienced with plug-ins. Plus it's also nice to sound a bit more unique as everyone and their mother is using Sylenth/Serum/Spire. =)
@@atomicasounds Agreed, it's tough to beat the Virus. I was hoping the modal would be a modern replacement for the jp8000 or the novation supernova or the old Nord Leads. I saw you have an Udo, I tried one but thought its a bit pricey compared to the Virus, but I often do find that.
@@petewigley9985 I have a System8 and have to say that's the nearest thing to a modern JP8000 (I've owned both) especially for Supersaws.
