    I think its a terrible idea, competition drives innovation, and with a merger, itd be borderline monopoly, lower tier parks could get worse, or just be fazed out all together, at best this could be a seaworld busch gardens type thing, which would honestly be the best of both worlds

    • @buldasur2576
      @buldasur2576 9 месяцев назад

      They would still have to innovate so people would keep coming back to the parks. Also There’s still other parks and more that can be made of course.

    • @exploreohio1735

      @@MarxistNurseRhis situation is more like Sears Kmart then anything. 1 has quality and the other in and out of bankruptcy. Look what happened to both. Merging/buying a failed product rarely ends good. Cedar Fair has to be careful.

      Lack of competition is the long term problem. It may or may not turn out to matter, I could see it going either way.
      The immediate problem is that most companies only do this when they are worried about their future and want to shed assets to survive but fear that if they shed too many that they'll collapse. This may be an effort to build a stronger base so that both companies can make cuts without going under and that would be a serious problem.

    • @BirdDuck

      @@zacg_Both Cedar Fair and Six flags have a lot of debt,and Six Flags already went bankrupt a decade ago,so it makes sense since they both don't want to go under.

    I actually think this could be a very interesting move for both companies. We saw Bass Pro Shops merge with Cabela's in 2017 and so far it's been a huge success. I am sure the same thing can happen between these two also.
    I do have a few conditions though. First, no adding Six Flags to the Cedar Fair parks. That means no Six Flags Cedar Point or Six Flags Kings Island, although they can say "A Six Flags/Cedar Fair Park" in tiny letters under their names. All Cedar Fair parks are to keep the Peanuts theming and not add it to any Six Flags parks, while Six Flags is to keep all DC and Looney Tunes theming without adding them to Cedar Fair. Finally, all Six Flags water parks stay Hurricane Harbor while all Cedar Fair water parks remain Soak City, Schlitterbahn, or whatever name they have. Basically, they own and operate all parks and they continue adding new additions, but they don't mess up either ones identity.

    If six flags and cedar fair merge together. It’s gonna be a disaster. More people coming. And more money will be used. As you said about the inflation part yes. Also inflation. Since to much rides to build which will make them lose money a lot or maybe go out of business. If this does happen it will be the down fall of cedar point and six flags.

    Could this be like BG and SW? Where they’re separate entities but still have the same overhead? Will GADV still be able to get that Intamin? I really don’t like Cedar fairs management these days with all b&ms and nothing really innovative.

      @OklahomaCoasterFan 9 месяцев назад +1

      Exactly what I was thinking. With a merger, that could means no more Intamins or RMCs at Six Flags parks. Any current deals will still go through, like the Intamin at SFOG, but future possibilities like RMC Roar, RMC Boss, or a raptor for SFGAm might be off the table.

  • @MCQ-fq6bv

    SF would be an albatross to Cedar Fair. The only interest Cf would have in SF is 2 or 3 parks and those would be the ones that SF wouldn't really want to sell unless they were desperate and in absolute financial straights, Even then, SF would sell off other parks before their top parks of GAdv, SFFT, MM, that CF might theoretically have an interest in. Actually CF wouldn't likely want MM to be competing with itself 40 miles away.

  • @OklahomaCoasterFan
    @OklahomaCoasterFan 9 месяцев назад +1

    I honestly do not want to see this for so many reasons. One of many concerns is what this would mean in terms of how Cedar Fair refuses to work with Intamin and RMC, my favorite 2 manufacturers, while Six Flags is totally on board with working with both. Will the merger spell the end of Intamin & RMC at Six Flags parks? Six Flags has no issues with B&M or Vekoma either, so the merger won't hurt those relationships. Six Flags does have issues with Gerstlauer, so that could close any possibilities for more of those at Cedar Fair parks.

  • @ArtfulAmy
    @ArtfulAmy 9 месяцев назад +2

    I wonder what this means for the licensing deals for IPs (like Six Flags having WB/DC superheroes and Cedar Fair with Peanuts although I read that may expire in 2025). Six Flags has basically built its identity on DC theming though with the Batman clones dating over 30 years back and the newest coasters this year are Flash-themed.

    • @buldasur2576
      @buldasur2576 9 месяцев назад +3

      I don’t think anything like that would change in the parks or even the park names. Like if six flags did merge with another company would they still have the rights to all of that stuff? I feel like they would.

      Anonymous sources the day before CF report, identical to 2019 timing, when in reality there were no talks and the first CF ever heard of it was the news reports, This is likely being floated by angry SF activist investors or SF corporate to act like they are doing something to stop the free fall of SF. They are doing just as poorly in 2023 as they did in 2022.

    FYI, the economy notion is irrelevant. Despite what the media tells you if you follow financials and the actual business reports the economy is doing too well..3 to 4% GDP growth, when the Fed wants it slower, especially after all the interest rate increases designed to slow the economy and inflation. Of course they are using an outdated paradigm, not factoring in the 5 trillion of QE they did, that is actually making inflation linger longer. They need to reduce the Federal Reserve(Chairman Jay Powell) balance sheet to 2019 levels, which was still inflated historically but less than the 5 Trillion they added during the pandemic. FYI, if Cedar Fair was really worried about the economy and the predicted recession, supposedly coming for over a year, CF wouldn't have spend 250M on stock buy backs between 2022 and April 2023 and authorized another 250M stock repurchase program that started in May 2023. They also wouldn't have increased Capex levels to 200M. pre pandemic levels, They would have been hoarding cash to weather the downturn.

    I hope it doesn't happen. If I wanted to buy six flags stock I would simply do that. Also recessions are great for local theme parks. People can't afford to fly to Hawaii, Caribbean, or Europe so they take their brood to Cedar Point. I'm certainly willing to wait out the recovery of Cedar Fair, but they need to work on restoring the dividend. A Six Flag merger would really put that in doubt.

    From the articles i have read, it seems as though that the company taking over is Cedar Fair this time, not Six flags. In the past two merger attempts, cedar fair was the takeover target and the were offers were turned down because they offered a price nowhere what cf was worth. Hopefully Cedar Fair's management is the one taking over the merged company. At the end of the day, its going to be up to the sharholders. If the merger is in the possibly in best benefit of the shareholder, both have to explore what is in the best interest of the company shareholder who would then vote yes or no. Given the nature of the business these parks operate in i doubt that the federal trade commision little if any opposition to merge. Most likely they would be forced to sell off parks in lose makets.The chains overlap in very few markets. I hope that if any parks such a knotts or dorney have to get sold, that they go to a quality operator like merlin, herschend or sea world entertainment. This may be what both chains need. Six flags has been on life support even before the pandemic and cedar fair has never quite recovered from it. Their new additions recently are no where close to what we are used to from cedar fair parks in the past. We will know tommorrow though during their quarterly earnings call..

    I would not be surprised in the slightest if six flags started these talks. I’m not going to try to act like if this is a good decision or not because I’m not familiar with the business side of these parks too much. This was definitely not what I was expecting today. I don’t get the feeling that this is actually going to happen though.

      It’s relatively equal. Cedar Fair’s CEO will get the CEO position and Bassoul will be executive chairman. Technically this puts Selim in a higher position of power than Zimmerman. The new company will utilize the Six Flags name. From what I’m reading (Six Flags press release) both companies will have an about equal hand because they are evenly splitting CF and SF board members although with Selim higher up. In exchange for Bassoul getting executive chairman it sounds like CF share holders are getting a slight 51-49 majority but it’s pretty equal

I knew this was the plan all along since it didn’t seem like the board was unhappy with what Selim was doing, and I had a hunch that Selim was trying to sell off the chain and lower its value so it’s more appetizing for other companies to buy.
