Came back to watch this because This game along with Ripple Island, and Firework Thrower Kantaro’s 53 Stations of the Tokaido (thats what the games localization is called) is coming back via the “SUNSOFT is Back! Retro Game Selection.” SUNSOFT even released the soundtracks to the 3 games all in one album on Spotify and Apple Music.

I love how you include references to the original source material to flesh out the story!

Sadly, after the Famicom boom a lot of the extra material dries up. Roughly around late-1987, they stop making the extra game books, a lot of the advertising becomes just pictures of the box, and only the biggest of games get television commercials.

Yeah, Wing of Madoola is definitely an improvement over Atlantis no Nazo. I wonder if Nausicaa had any influence on the amount of girl protagonists in late 1986/early 1987 or if there was some other reason for that.

I'm not so sure. Layla, for example, was definitely inspired by Dirty Pair, and they didn't come from Nausicaa.
There are a few games where I think I can see the Nausicaa influence, though, and one Famicom game that's a sequel to a Miyazaki film!

cool to see someone else cover this game. this one took me some time to get the hang of but once i did i ended up really liking it for an early famicom game.

I used to really enjoy this game but was looking to maybe get it back and it's one of those that has gone up a bit more to where it's punching above it's gameplay value.

it's definitely one I've tried to get into... perhaps if I can find a cart of it I could sit down and give it a legit try! also with the way sunsoft has been reviving their old catalog perhaps this one is due for a re-release/remake/remaster? could certainly help iron out the rough edges on it.

This game threw me for a loop because *_No-Intro_* has it named as *_Madoola no Tsubasa_* which is probably the Japanese pronunciation of what's on the BOX ??? ...While *_GoodNES_* & *_TOSEC_* have it named as what's on the Title Screen: *_The Wing of Madoola_* (minus the naming rule which puts articles like "The" at the end: So, "Wing of Madoola, The"). Whereas, I have noticed that lots of Games have have an extra Sub-Title, so I think it would have been completely valid to just put one as the Title & one as the Sub-Title: "Madoola no Tsubasa - The Wing of Madoola" ??? ("Box-Title - Title-Screen"). For me, i think it might be the 1st time I've noticed that discrepancy ? And judging by the Title of your video (& introductory splash-screen), you've noticed this as well ? ...So, I wonder how often this happens... I need to keep a lookout for this more often.
Luckily, it's a simple solution. But one thing I haven't been able to solve is an elegant way for the Language Tag to say "This game has a MIX of both English AND Japanese" !!! Because this happens A LOT !!! But none of the *_Software Preservation_* groups have a rule for this kind of situation. Heck, most of them just leave off the Language Tag unless it's actually different from the Region Tag. And the Multilingual method is insufficient because it normally means how many OR which languages you can choose from at startup: e.g. "(Europe) (En,Ja,Fr,Es,Pt)" means that you can choose from any of those languages when you start the game. Hence, a tag of "(En,Ja)" would NOT mean a MIX of English & Japanese: It means that you can choose between them at startup. Not sure I like the look of "(En+Ja)" or "(En&Ja)", so maybe I just need to remove the standard comma separator & _MERGE_ them together as meaning "MIX" ??? (EnJa) ??? ...Not sure.

...Yeah... looking at that, it looks like an actual mistake that needs to be corrected rather than something intentional with meaning :(
