If you carry on watching Taskmaster you'll get to realise that Alex will eat absolutely anything. Frank Skinner is like the elder statesman of British comedy, he's very highly regarded in the stand up comedy world. Apparently a couple of the other contestants only agreed to do this when they found out Frank had agreed to do it, so if he'd said no, there probably wouldn't be any Taskmaster today. Cheers Frank!👏
Oh wow, thank you!! Like I was saying, I don't really know any of these comedians outside some very brief clips, so it's great to learn about them. He seems like exactly what you just said he is haha
I don’t know about “the” elder statesman. He is ONE elder statesman, of many legendary comedians of his generation. Certainly the most legendary of this group though, and the detail about him being a linchpin of getting the other folks to agree is absolutely true!
as a non-brit who once discovered this show I have to say it is remarkable how quickly you can go from not knowing a single cast member to being absolutely invested. and the series only get better. the casting is always spot on
Yeah I remember thinking "this won't be that interesting because I don't know any of these people" Before you know it, you're like "oh, that's so typical of them! Classic Josh!"
Even if you dont end up doing the whole series as a reaction, you should watch all of it on your own. But as long as you do reactions, I'll be watching.
One thing that may not immediately be clear is that all of the tasks are filmed well in advance of the studio show and this is their first time seeing their own (and obviously each other's) video. And then they are not shown in the same order they were filmed. So there's no chance of a contestant thinking "i did poorly this episode, must do better next time." No opportunity for "strategizing" in that regard. Plus the arbitrary rulings by Greg make it totally unpredictable. Roisin is the Irish word for "rose" btw
'So there's no chance of a contestant thinking "i did poorly this episode, must do better next time."' -- this is *mostly* true, but of course there are two exceptions: the prize tasks and live studio tasks. I don't know exact stats here, but 5-6 tasks per episode seems to be the norm, so that's like 35%-40% of the points that are fully determined live. A minority -- but a rather big minority.
Ahhhh so much good info in your comment- thank you!! I didn't want to guess and sound stupid(er), but after learning how to properly pronounce Saoirse and that it is an Irish name, Roisin seemed like it was in the same ballpark as to country. I didn't know the translation though :) Cool
@@EvanEDAs far as I know prize tasks are decided in advance of the show (ie the contestants submit their prizes for the whole series before even filming one episode). in addition they film the studio bits two episodes a day, sequentially (so they’ll film eps 1/2 on monday and then 3/4 on tuesday).
@@cias55s So I want to be clear it's *100%* possible I'm wrong here; I'm actually still working my way through the series (almost through the main sequence, on S16 now) and haven't listened to much in the way of interviews or their podcast or whatever. That said, I have memories (including recent memories from probably S15, though I'd have to go back and re-watch the prize tasks to get specifics) of contestants specifically talking about how they were adjusting strategy based on Greg's rulings on previous prize tasks. Not often, but occasionally. It's possible they're just saying that for the camera (akin to how they change clothes despite it being the same day), but I'm just going off of what I've seen. That said, I didn't think about the two-episodes-a-day thing (which I did vaguely know because of Katy Wix's absence from a day of filming in S9)... that does cut down the opportunities for adjustments in half. So assuming that I'm not entirely wrong and they can make that day-to-day adjustment, that would drop the opportunities for adjustment down to more like 25% of the points available.
@@EvanED The prize task thing is half-remembered knowledge on my part so I could be wrong on that front in fairness. I do know that there are a few times where contestants came up with the idea for a prize, and then production staff on the show have bought/made what the contestant requested (off the top of my head Ed and Rose both did this in the season 9 finale, they submitted an idea and production made it). There have also been times a contestant has brought something/had an idea and the producers have had to reject it for various reasons. So that does imply that it's not entirely off-the-cuff
The best contestants are the ones who don’t break the rules but think outside of the box. In later seasons, when the contestants are more familiar with the show, they get quite creative!
I believe Tim has said that his involvement is greatly exaggerated. Because they're friends he essentially just asked if he could get his name in the credits just so he's a 'part of the show'. His role is listed as "Task Consultant" and basically boils down to giving opinions any time they go out drinking etc.. But because he's Alex's friend, Alex is still fine with him getting in the credits
Yeah, I've heard people say that, and so I'm REALLY stoked for subsequent seasons. But still trying to keep expectations in check so that I don't overthink it. Right now I'm loving it though. Looking forward to your thoughts on it as I go along if you keep watching!
Oh. I am happy you explore TM again. I’ve listened to a podcast with Tim recently. He is one of Alexˋs best and longest friends. They did stand-up together in the early 2000s. Tim was his assistant in the shows. Tim said that at that time they were on a Comedy festival and went to the pub with some friends and their parents and he said to Alex, who has ordered a pie „smash your pie“. And Alex actually did it. Some people were not amused. But Tim said when he read the task it threw him back to that evening immediately, so he knew that he wanted Alex to smash the pies. Again :)
Thank you!! And thanks for this anecdote! That's funny. I would love to hear more of where some of these tasks originated, so if you ever have more info like that, share away :)
Alex often says in interviews and podcasts that Taskmaster wouldn't exist without Frank Skinner. Alex pitched the show to Frank after meeting with producers, who would only give him the green light if Frank - an established comedian - agreed to it. Frank loved the concept, naturally. Tim was already involved with the original Taskmaster live show that Alex presented at the Edinburgh Fringe. Romesh, Roisin and Josh immediately said yes to doing it upon finding out that Frank was on board. Even Greg said no at first until he found out Frank was a contestant.
(11:18) *"All the necessary info is written in the task"* If there's not something in it, like: _"you can't ask Alex to do it for you",_ it's possible to ask him for help. However: that's not an automated process. Alex can still refuse on a case to case base _(sometimes he may even help one contestant - but not another)._ That's part of the beauty of this show.
Oh the layers!! haha. Thank you!! I'm beginning to realize though, after watching a few episodes of this and also some Would I Lie to You, that the rules and scoring seem to only exist in order to anger the hell out of the contestants, thus causing the hilarious outbursts we all love. Case in point: "Papa don't breach." lol
@@DavidvsFilm I saw someone somewhere - I think in relation to WILTY - say that the reason they have scores is so that the show will qualify as a panel game. Which is important because on British television there's a distinct time of the day when panel shows are more likely to appear than, say, straightforward comedy shows. It's just a quirk of how time slots are allocated but the slot for panel shows also happens to be within or next to the zone for primetime viewing, overlapping with family viewing time, so if you can get your show in one of those slots, preferably on a Thursday or Friday, you're going to get a much bigger audience. Once they've decided on that format they work out how to weave a competitive element into the show - on WILTY it doesn't really have any relevance at all, whereas in Taskmaster it helps to spark off the lying and cheating that add to the comedy. Wait till you get to some of the later series where the accusations start on day 1!
i'm so glad you continue reacting to the show! you hit the nail on the head with the favourite contestant question... every season there is somebody who just resonates with me more than the rest. it's so fun bc i don't know them but the first episode starts and there always is a "yup, now i'm rooting for you" moment. it makes you so much more invested!
Yes!! Haha. And I always feel badly for the person because I have the worst luck picking winners. It's almost like you DON'T want to have me on your side lol
Thank you!! Yeah, so I'm up to Episode 4 so far (they take me longer to edit to get the RUclips version ready), and even though I've properly learned her name now, I think I'm still going to stick with Lady R. ;)
That truly is quite a feat. Especially when you consider multiple tasks per episode, and multiple episodes per season.. and the fact that I'm only four episodes in (2 here and 2 I need to edit) makes David a happy fella. lol
The US version of TM bombed (its reallyreallybad) so I'm glad you're watching the original UK version! TM is in about a dozen countries now, Alex came up with such a genius concept for a show.
You're gonna get tons of comments to read for sure! That high-five task is very... un-British. Going up to strangers is a very uncomfortable thing to do! There are a couple other "public" tasks in the early seasons but they quickly stopped doing them because the contestants hated doing it. There's multiple TONS of Taskmaster episides to react to... even if you just watch the original UK version! A bunch of other countries have created their own Taskmasters, to varying degrees of success. You’ll learn about those eventually! In the meantime, if you consider reacting all the way, I'd recommend at least 2 episodes a week to have any chance of catching up! Heh, you mentioned some potential criticisms: "You cut out too much! You're talking too much!" Well, I'd love more reaction, and even though i love the commentary too, it's just as long as the entire reaction! Looking forward to next week!
Hey hey!! How are you? Thanks so much for this :) And yeah, re: what you wrote about "un-British behavior", that actually kinda lines up with what I've heard. Marc was watching a video the other day about how other country's citizens can identify Americans, and several people said things like: overly friendly, very talkative and telling you personal stories, touchy/huggy, smile at you when they don't know you, etc etc. And I thought, Hell I think I'm all those things hahaha
I always like to try to figure out what I would bring for the prize tasks. And whenever I’m watching with my family, we always discuss ways to get around the wording of the task and find loopholes!
Thank you! I could watch these all day long. This is when I really wish that I was a big fancy reactor who could afford an editor to turn videos around faster, because I'd upload 3 a week of a show this great! It's so much fun.
@DavidvsFilm we don't want a big fancy editor. We love you and what you do. I am happy to wait, and it's nice seeing you getting to know some of our homegrown talent xx
"Uggh, Do they have to eat these at the end of this? Because that would be gross if they did." @10:22 Epic foreshadowing David! I love Taskmaster so much, but don't know anyone else who does. I've seen every episode multiple times, but I am here for it to rewatch them with you!
I've been a fan of Taskmaster from the very beginning and have seen all seasons mulitple times. It is wonderful to watch them with you, it's like experiencing them for the first time. And yes, I always have favourites, but it isn't always the person I thought it would be when the line up gets announced for a new series. One of the great things about Taskmaster ist, that you get to spend so much time with these people. Some groups are really competitive, others are try to help each other. I love how the group from NZ's series 2 got together for other things like the spelling bee. I am really looking forward to going on this journey with you.
What a nice comment thank you so much!! Yeah, I'm really enjoying these! Someone said, "Your fake laughter is distracting," and I thought, "Uh ok, sorry. that's actually my laugh.." Some of them may be more donkey-ish and intense than others, but if I'm laughing it's because something or someone is genuinely funny to me. And on this show- that's multiple instances!! Such a great cast. Thank you again!
That is a really weird thing to criticize, watching reactions with genuine laughs is what it is all about. When you watch something funny on your own you rarely laugh out loud. This is why I love reactions like yours. It makes me laugh alongside you. And especially in my case, having watched all of these so often, it's like a new experience. I love it. @@DavidvsFilm
I love this show so much! Binging it was absolutely one of my lockdown sanity boosters. And yes, I definitely had favorites every season. Some seasons are better than others, but I think they're all worth watching, even if you don't watch them all for the channel...though I would be thrilled if you did.
You're so right!! It's a GREAT show. Thank you so much! At this point, that's the plan. As long as people still have an interest in watching the videos, they are wonderful because I love them and they are lenient with copyright, so also easy to edit (so far!)
We all have favourite contestants but that quite often is carried into the show from what we know of them previously. The worst series for me personally was series 3 where there were 3 contestants I already wasn't a fan of. The best times are when people I've never heard of are on and I fall in love with them. Thankfully there lots of series like that.
The episode winners actually don't get to keep the prizes. Richard Osman a contestant in later shows on his podcast "The Rest is Entertainment" explains that some of the prizes have great personal value so they give the prizes back. They assemble the cast well with a mix of comedians of different length of time in show business and the odd outlier who isn't a comedian like Richard Osman. It helps that Greg and Alex are also pals of many of them from the comedy circuit. Some of the tasks on the international spinoff are even madder than the UK.
Literally the best part of doing this on RUclips! I'm not kidding- I know some RUclipsrs are much bigger than me and they can't get to all the comments, but some don't answer ANY. And I'm like, If you're not going to engage with the good folks who support your videos, why are you doing this? I really appreciate you taking the time to comment, and definitely let me know the lore!
The originality of the tasks is even more impressive when you realise that in addition to the hundreds of episodes of the UK version, there is also the New Zealander, Swedish, Quebecois and many other versions who also run. Sometimes a particularly good task may be adapted on a different version, but generally they won't exactly copy.
Yes! They filmed subsequent seasons' tasks with the contestants always dressed in the same outfits for continuity. As the filming of the actual tasks take place over several days, according to the contestants' schedules, they can film all the contestants doing the same tasks, but they may be actually done weeks apart. Alex and the production team can then select which tasks can be used, short ones and longer ones, to fill the scheduled time allotment per episode. Obviously, the live shows require them all to be there at the same time, but their schedules can be arranged to do those months after the other individual tasks have been completed. As the series/seasons progress, there are team tasks which obviously require that team members are filmed together. I liked the way they handled the social distancing regulations in the U.K., but were able to continue to film episodes! Creative minds, and bloody hilarious!
Haha, I am sure many have already said, but when Frank offers £12,000 to move up to first place - yeah... he definitely is that rich! XD You may have heard the '3 Lions' song at football games, where the England crowd chant 'It's coming home, it's coming home, it's coming, Football's coming home'. That was him and his comedy partner teaming up with the band the Lightning Seeds to make one of the most well known songs in the UK! XD So yes, Frankie is definitely Mr. Moneybags in this series! XD
Whaaaat??? That’s awesome! See, this is the kind of education I need! Haha. And actually, no, I believe you’re the first who’s confirmed he’s the richest. I suspected, but now I know. Thank you my brother!
@@DavidvsFilm Haha, no problem! Look up the song "Thee Lions" on RUclips, and you will see Frankie with his comedy partner David, who is on a much later series of Taskmaster! XD It is a very important song over here among sports fans!
Glad you're continuing with the show! I wasn't really a fan of Roisin in this show but I love how each series has someone for everybody. It seems to happen with every cast that whichever contestant I vibe with the least still has a ton of fans who like them best.
Yeah, definitely, thank you!! And I know what you mean. Even with my friends I have several that other people don't care for, and I'm like, "Oh don't worry, I love him, but I totally get it." lol. I have to say though, I was trying to think of which contestant was my least favorite in this series, and I really actually like them all. There's not one who comes on screen and I think, "Ugh this guy."
@@DavidvsFilm yes, in 16 series of Taskmaster I haven't yet seen a contestant I actually disliked. I'm often disappointed by who wins a series (no spoilers) because the type of contestant I find the funniest and most entertaining is not the type of contestant that usually wins lol. There's a difficult balance between being funny and inventive or playing it safe/route 1 so you can average 3 points, and the latter approach tends to do better, if at the cost of humor (imo).
@@MusicalJackknife Ahh I see. That makes sense. Thank you! Very well-said. I hope you’ll continue sharing your thoughts as we go along with the series!
Careful though, the episodes for all the s1-9 shows are all gonna have spoilers since they’re retrospective and weren’t airing along with the TV episodes. So I’d wait at least until after finishing a series/season to check out the corresponding pods to avoid spoiling the winner and have seen everything since they tend to discuss other moments throughout the series too beyond just the episode-especially when the guest is one of the contestants from the series.
Ohhhh ok!! Thanks! I work from home now, and I'll say that one of the only things I miss about going to the office is listening to podcasts on my commute.
It's worth watching the US attempt at this just to see how bad it was, poor Alex was treated terribly by two of the contestants (Lisa Lampanelli and Kate Berlant) that he looked genuinely uncomfortable. T hey cut it to just a half-hour show and the Taskmaster, Veggie Watts, just didn't know what was going on. Shame, it could've been quite good.😕
I do flinch every time you say “some random crap from home” because a Pointless trophy is actually a trophy from a tricky British quiz show called Pointless, and if I had one it would be my pride and joy 😂 Marathon completion also has good bragging rights! Romesh will seriously top that soon though so keep an eye out for that…
Sup!!! I'll be honest... there's been times where I get so excited about your video I'll comment multiple times, but later I get embarrassed because I feel like I'm being "too much" or annoying. I've been around for a while now and you always say how much you love the comments, but my anxiety gets the best of me and I have to delete the additional comments, but after your rant at the end of this video, I'm not gonna do that anymore! (Or try my best at least hahah). Thank you for always being so warm and inviting and even making me feel safe enough to comment at all!
Sup!!! You can leave as many comments as you like! That’s always ok with me. I love reading you guys’ thoughts and insights, so bring them on! ♥️ Thank you so much for THIS one, btw 🙂
New subscriber, really enjoying your reactions… two of my favourite contestants are Joe Wilkinson and Noel Fielding! Not sure what seasons they are on though 🤔
As of recent series, I have started for fun to come up with my own titles on episodes. (Just like with the show, basing them on quotes of something they actually say in said episode.) If you want a fun challenge, you can try listen for them saying something really out there, and then make that title of your episode videos. ;-)
Ahhhhh you have no idea how dead-on you are!! Seriously. Ultimately I had to leave Tree Wizard in the title because it was just so ridiculous, iconic, and identifiable, but the close runners-up were "That's a whole lotta pieeeee", and my actual favorite: "Papa don't breach."
Definitely have favourites each series. When they announce who on a new series I always think “that person is gonna be my favourite” but it’s not usually my favourite once the show starts.
Especially in the earlier seasons, you can see a real difference between contestants who were familiar with the show and knew to look for tricks and those who went in without any idea of what goes on. Knowledge of the show helps in some ways, but surprisingly, it can also cause problems for them.
Yeah I love that kind of dynamic. And then like someone else was saying, you can think that you've done your best and got it all figured out, and then ol' Davies can just unilaterally decide to do what he wants. He's like the Dumbledore of Taskmaster Hogwarts.
It’s pretty much just Alex coming up with tasks. Tim Key is a task consultant in the following series but he says that just consists of going to the pub occasionally and talking about tasks. They have taken tasks from the New Zealand version before, and Lee Mack’s daughter suggested a live task to Alex that they ended up using.
Oh really?? That's interesting about Lee Mack's daughter, btw. Oh and you mentioned taking tasks from NZ- did that iteration of the show come first?? I was just assuming this was the original.
@@DavidvsFilm the UK version is the original, but it became so popular that other countries started making their own versions. The was actually a US version, but it didn't really work and only lasted for one season (the main problem with the US version was that all the contestants took it far too seriously and forgot it was supposed to be a comedy show).
@@DavidvsFilm The UK one was first, but they sold the franchise around the world so several countries have it now with NZ being one of the most successful ones, so a few (though I think very few) tasks from there have been adapted into the UK version. (oops, this has already been well answered by @carlgibson285)
@@DavidvsFilm Some international versions of the show reused tasks from the UK original, but it was a condition of the licence for the NZ version that they come up with all original tasks. However, the UK version has since borrowed some of the ideas that the NZ writing team came up with. (I think the NZ show has three writers, while the UK one is still mostly Alex, with occasional suggestions from others.)
Yeah I’m tempted to experiment with this! I thought the same thing about the terrible/glorious Star Wars Christmas Special from the 70s that’s posted in its entirety for free on RUclips, and I got my hand slapped with a block. So I’ve been hesitant to test that theory again, but I might.
There was actually HomeTasking where the fans participated during the pandemic (Alex posted videos of what the task is and asked the fans to send in like 10-30sec videos of them doing the task and Greg would judge the videos after like 5 days or something.
My favourite type of tasks are the type where you have to use both logic AND lateral thinking, aka thinking outside the box to come up with something creative. Some of them get super funny and interesting!
Ohhhhhhh ok. Well that kind of takes the jaw drop out of it for me, but I feel better knowing that they haven't lost some of their prized possessions! And I still love seeing what they brought ;) Thank you so much!
What I recall hearing is that they actually do sign a contract allowing them to keep them, but anything of great value will probably be given back, because people aren't dicks (and need to work together again anyway).
The second or third episode is usually where I pick my favorite. This particular season was an exception since I knew Josh from The Last Leg so I was biased. Frank very quickly grew on me, though.
I have no idea what this means but I'm giving it a heart because you came here and commented the first day I posted this. I thank you for that and support whatever this comment means lol
They did a US version but it was terrible! They changed the format as they didn't think the US audience could watch for as long and I think it really impacted the experience. I think it is now a condition when sold to other countries They can't f with the format. Other country versions are great, never as good as the original but no where near as bad as the US version!
@@T_M_H_ From what I've heard, the Spanish version was even worse. Also, there's a fan-made American version called Taskmaster Minnesota, which seems pretty good.
Hey thank you!! A really awesome person sent me that, and I love it. I keep it on a high shelf in the kitchen with my Agatha Harkness from WandaVision mug for safe keeping lol
There’s usually 2 or 3 people per series that I don’t recognise but quite often they end up being my favourites With the prize tasks, some of them go all out and don’t just bring “crap from home”. Looking at you, Al “Moneybags” Murray in Series 3!
Hahahaha yeah so I'm a few episodes ahead now in my viewing (but haven't edited), and some of them I'm shocked! As a practice, I try to keep my comments to only the episode in the reaction, but I'll pull "a Davies" and go rogue for a second. I could not BELIEVE Romesh brought his wedding ring to one!
Yay🎉So happy you are beginning to love this show. It is such a good 'lift me up' type of program. And how could I forget Tree Wizard?!?😂 I will watch every episode with ya amigo.☺💚
Hey hey!!! Hahahaha Tree Wizard, Tree Wizard.. you don't often hear a song like that from a grown man. lol. And THANK YOU!! I can always count on you ;)
For your own enjoyment you'd enjoy Greg singing "Nans" at the Royal Variety show. I love him!😄 Josh and Roisin were my favorites this season though I liked Frank a lot.
Oh ok thank you!! I'll check it out. And YES with Josh and Roisin. Though to your point, Frank had the biggest laugh for me in this episode with his quip at the end, "Is this going to be shown backwards?" So funny. Josh and Lady R make me laugh through their reactions and expressions, but Frank is very quick with his wit.
As a Brit who loves your film reactions, I'm thrilled you are watching this, Taskmaster is definitely a comfort show, watched it all throughout covid and rewatched many times since. Loving your reactions so far. Love from across the pond!
Joe Widdecombe is on a program called The last leg, in which first started to talk about the 2012 paralymics and had a section called #Isitok which asks question about disability, which they kept when it returned but for what happened during the week.
Yay!!!! Another TM episode. This is so much fun watching you experience this show. It really is a pick me up. There are episodes or seasons I rewatch from time to time even when I know what’s coming.
Aww that makes me feel so good, thank you!! Yeah, I'm loving it. You know, there are some movies or shows that are kind of a chore to edit because watching once is enough lol, but I really look forward to re-watching these during the editing process. And then of course this is my favorite part- getting to talk to people about it :)
I found out about this show during the pandemic and it made me laugh so hard. I flew threw every series and found out other countries have the show and watched them. I constantly rewatch the UK episodes. I love seeing how different people solve the same task. Very interesting
Yeah I can see how you could easily burn through these! I’m almost done with the first season, and then it’s on to 2. Which version besides UK is your favorite?
Yeah, you're totally right! When I hear pie, I immediately think dessert. The only savory pies I ever eat are chicken pot pie occasionally, a meat pie from back home in Louisiana called Natchitoches Meat Pie (spicy ground beef in a round pastry folded over, kinda similar to how a taco looks, then deep fried), and of course a favorite import: Shepherd's Pie (which is technically cottage pie for me since I usually use ground beef). :)
@@DavidvsFilm Sounds delicious! I have to say even meat pie sounds odd to me, we just say pie or what ever is in the pie, popular pies include chicken and gravy, chicken, mushroom and gravy pie, steak pie, steak and kidney pie, fish pie (though the fish pie is usually served differently and sometimes can look more like a shepherd's pie or cottage pie instead of a pastry surrounding it) and pork pie (though this again is slightly different than our other pies and can be eaten as a snack and cold, while the others you definitely wouldn't eat cold or as a snack, you also wouldn't pour loads of gravy on it, unlike the other savoury pies and so on :D Talking about pies in general, I do believe you have something called a pecan pie, which I think is very rare over here or at least I don't remember seeing it, so I'd love to try that at some point
Ohhh yes, pecan pie is especially popular here where I’m from (in the South). It’s delicious :) And ACTUALLY, something I forgot to mention earlier.. I don’t usually comment on episodes outside the one that’s in the current reaction, but I just finished watching Episode 4 where they have to collect tears, and Roisin asks them to put on the movie Steel Magnolias to make her cry. That movie was filmed in Louisiana about an hour from where I grew up in a town called Natchitoches- home of the meat pie I mentioned! I was happily surprised that she knew about that movie and that it would have an audience in the UK.❤️
Tim Key ended up continuing with the show as a consultant on the tasks. You don't see him, but i guess they liked the fact that he found ways to cheat. No clue which tasks he actually came up with in the future seasons, but i love that he was part of it. He seemed to understand the brilliance of the shows concept from the get-go.
To answer your question, yes, you do have favorites you root for. But sometimes, when the lineup is so good, you start to get to know everyone and end up rooting for all of them.
There have been a few seasons of Taskmast where I didn't really know any of the contestants, but you always find some gems in each season. The most recent season was all gems. Even the ones that aren't my faves are great.
God yes. My 9-5 job has been busy lately, Dolly, but I plan to watch 5 and 6 of Season 1 ASAP to get them up on Patreon this week. So be on the lookout my man..
Hey thank you so much!! The plan is to eventually reserve an upload spot on Wednesdays/Thursdays for this or other fine British programming. But in 2 years of doing reactions on RUclips, either through general life or my own procrastination, I think I've successfully stuck to a schedule for 3 solid weeks. lol
Thank you so much!!! I made a note of this. I'm not sure if you watched my intro before the reaction, but if not, this is EXACTLY how I learn about new shows- through great comments like yours. So thanks again!
I’ve been in the UK for so long, I had forgotten about sweet pies. The UK is definitely the land of savory pies. Chicken, bacon and leek, Steak and Ale, Fisherman’s Pie, Cottage Pie, Shepard’s Pie, Steak and Kidney Pies… basically meat and gravy in pastry for lunch and dinner is ubiquitous here. These are some very well known comedians in this side of the pond, but the British attitude towards celebrities is far different (culturally) from our American reactions to celebrities. I love that Greg David’s went from being a teacher, to then becoming a comedian/actor and played a teacher in another comedy series here in the UK (Man Down), to then star in his own comedy series, that takes off to include even bigger celebrities as you continue on.
Hello my friend!! Haha, yeah it certainly seems that way! House of Pies, a landmark diner here in Houston, has over 30 pies and none of them are savory lol. Even though knowing myself, I’m gonna be kinda sad when each cast departs at the end of the seasons, I’m glad Green and Alex are the mainstays :)
What up buddy?? It is interesting, isn't it? I had to go to the mall today to drop off my computer at the Apple store, and I thought about asking some people if they were 55. lol
I really love his overall demeanor. I've actually been thoroughly impressed with everyone associated with this show. They're all great in their own way.
Thank you!! And I don't know if you meant to write "ours" on purpose, but I love that! Every time I start a new series on the channel, I'm like, "Ok guys, let's get into this.." Oh and hey you really know I'm genuinely invested in this show because I'm not even drinking. Unlike usual, that's ACTUAL coffee in the coffee mug lol.
@@DavidvsFilm I definitely meant ours, that’s how I view it too. And my glass usually does contain tea. Or Diet Coke, depending on the time of day. That’s my 5 o’clock pick-me-up. How ho-hum! (I would include a smiley face, but I don’t know how to do that here.)
Alex will even eat Noel Fielding
Oh wow, thank you!! Like I was saying, I don't really know any of these comedians outside some very brief clips, so it's great to learn about them. He seems like exactly what you just said he is haha
@@user-zp4ge3yp2owasn’t it the other way round?
I don’t know about “the” elder statesman. He is ONE elder statesman, of many legendary comedians of his generation. Certainly the most legendary of this group though, and the detail about him being a linchpin of getting the other folks to agree is absolutely true!
as a non-brit who once discovered this show I have to say it is remarkable how quickly you can go from not knowing a single cast member to being absolutely invested. and the series only get better. the casting is always spot on
Yeah I remember thinking "this won't be that interesting because I don't know any of these people"
Before you know it, you're like "oh, that's so typical of them! Classic Josh!"
Yes! 100% agree with you. I usually always dislike SOMEONE, but damned if I can't find one so far ;)
Love the Noel Fielding episodes.
Even if you dont end up doing the whole series as a reaction, you should watch all of it on your own. But as long as you do reactions, I'll be watching.
Awesome, thank you my friend!! Yeah, I mean I'm down for it as long as people want to see this reaction dog and pony show I do. lol
One of the highlights of Taskmaster overall is seeing who tries to follow the rules and who goes outside the box....or even just goes weird lol
Haha right?? I'm up to Episode 4 now, and I'm definitely starting to see more of that.
The best contestants are the ones who don’t break the rules but think outside of the box. In later seasons, when the contestants are more familiar with the show, they get quite creative!
Very true! the creativity is great. Hey I saw you're back on Patreon, btw!!! Thank you!! So glad you're there again :)
Every series of Taskmaster you may not know any of the contestants but by the end you're ready to invite them to Christmas dinner.
PERFECTLY SAID! Yes. Even just a few episodes in I can see this ;)
Tim and Alex are close friends. Tim actually helps design the tasks in the seasons that followed this one (mostly behind the scene)
Oh cool! Thanks!
Worth watching No More Jockeys to give some context to their friendship
Tree Wizard is a classic
Next to the general theme music of the show, that d*mn Tree Wizard song has been stuck in my head the most from this show.
@@DavidvsFilm The ear worms will keep coming. Series 5 has a couple of particular fan favorites.
I'm loving this look back at Series 1. I always forget just how much the show has grown and developed over time.
Thanks so much for sharing this!!
Also, I agree with you. In most seasons -- I enjoyed the episodes more after I "got to know" the guests.
Right?? Thanks! Glad to know it's not just me haha
(11:18) *"All the necessary info is written in the task"*
If there's not something in it, like: _"you can't ask Alex to do it for you",_ it's possible to ask him for help.
However: that's not an automated process.
Alex can still refuse on a case to case base _(sometimes he may even help one contestant - but not another)._
That's part of the beauty of this show.
@@DavidvsFilm
Oh yes - the scoring...or as Greg says: "this is not a democracy!"
@@o.b.7217 Hahaha
@@DavidvsFilm I can't wait for you to get to season 2, has one of my favorite moments of how crushing the scoring can be
i'm so glad you continue reacting to the show!
you hit the nail on the head with the favourite contestant question... every season there is somebody who just resonates with me more than the rest. it's so fun bc i don't know them but the first episode starts and there always is a "yup, now i'm rooting for you" moment. it makes you so much more invested!
Yes!! Haha. And I always feel badly for the person because I have the worst luck picking winners. It's almost like you DON'T want to have me on your side lol
As a contestant and a viewer you learn early on NOT to trust anything they say is food. HOT Toothpaste Pie is NOT food.😅
Hahahahahahaha
I definitely pick a favorite each season and cheer for them to win, but since it’s so silly, it doesn’t really matter too much. 😂
Very true!
Whatever you do: DO NOT watch Taskmaster US!
Haha oh I’ve been warned.. that definitely seems to be the consensus!
Glad you enjoyed this episode, and they keep getting better!!!
Roisin is Irish name, pronounced RO'-sheen.
Thank you!! Yeah, so I'm up to Episode 4 so far (they take me longer to edit to get the RUclips version ready), and even though I've properly learned her name now, I think I'm still going to stick with Lady R. ;)
My kids lived for tree wizard when the episode came out, we probably sang it for a full year 😂
I'm afraid I may end up like that. haha
Amazingly, it slowly improves every episode for about 10 seasons
That truly is quite a feat. Especially when you consider multiple tasks per episode, and multiple episodes per season.. and the fact that I'm only four episodes in (2 here and 2 I need to edit) makes David a happy fella. lol
The US version of TM bombed (its reallyreallybad) so I'm glad you're watching the original UK version! TM is in about a dozen countries now, Alex came up with such a genius concept for a show.
I've heard that! And yeah, I definitely got good advice from the outset about which version to watch :)
Wait until you see a task that has the answer right there.
Haha I probably will miss it initially. Knowing me.
I'm so glad you have got into this. As the series goes on, there are some brilliant tasks and contestants, you will love it all.
Oh Lord, I can only imagine what disgusting tasks are on the horizon as Greg's/Alex's power grows haha
My dog thinks you're cool too.
Hahaha, oh go on.. lol
I think Tim Key became my favorite contestant with his cheeky grin.
Like a kid who knows he did something sneaky lol
We're here to give you the lore..
Haha director Peter Jackson sitting in the audience behind frank always makes me giggle
I mean, we don't know it's NOT him! And ever since cameos in Return of the King and Hot Fuzz, I'm always on the lookout. lol
Ahhhh very true!! That's a great point.
In some seasons, they have the contestants pick an outfit and they wear those for each task. Some are hilarious!

XD

He's also been a TV presenter and comedian for many years.

Check out the Taskmaster podcast for interviews with the contestants :)

Hey there! Thank you so much!!! Greatly appreciate that. I hope you'll keep commenting, but you FOR SURE have to when we get to those seasons.
As of recent series, I have started for fun to come up with my own titles on episodes.
(Just like with the show, basing them on quotes of something they actually say in said episode.)
If you want a fun challenge, you can try listen for them saying something really out there, and then make that title of your episode videos.

@@DavidvsFilm Some international versions of the show reused tasks from the UK original, but it was a condition of the licence for the NZ version that they come up with all original tasks. However, the UK version has since borrowed some of the ideas that the NZ writing team came up with.

My favourite type of tasks are the type where you have to use both logic AND lateral thinking, aka thinking outside the box to come up with something creative. Some of them get super funny and interesting!
Alex said in a Q&A that they don't keep the prizes after the show. Everyone keeps their own stuff.

@@T_M_H_ From what I've heard, the Spanish version was even worse.
Also, there's a fan-made American version called Taskmaster Minnesota, which seems pretty good.
CW tried briefly to air UK Taskmaster. No one watched it (fools. I didn't know it was on). Thank goodness for YT.
Love the Wednesday mug! 🫶
Hey thank you!! A really awesome person sent me that, and I love it. I keep it on a high shelf in the kitchen with my Agatha Harkness from WandaVision mug for safe keeping lol
@@DavidvsFilm I do love a film/series mug! Stranger things mugs are dominating shelf space in my cupboard at the moment 😆
I thought it was Greg “Davees” too. 🤷♀️
55 year old people are not the morning mall walkers 😆 those people are in their 70's at a minimum
Oh sh**, well for God's sake don't tell them. I don't need another group mad at me when I go to the mall. lol
;)
@@DavidvsFilm I'm almost one of those 55 yo people. I promise you won't see me anywhere near a mall lol
@@TheMarkc614 Hey I’m not far behind you actually. We still got it. 😁
There’s usually 2 or 3 people per series that I don’t recognise but quite often they end up being my favourites
With the prize tasks, some of them go all out and don’t just bring “crap from home”.
:)
Hello sir!
They make Alex eat and do the grossest things!
Yay🎉So happy you are beginning to love this show. It is such a good 'lift me up' type of program. And how could I forget Tree Wizard?!?😂
I will watch every episode with ya amigo.☺💚
Thank you so much!! I'm so glad :) This is a great show!
Joe Widdecombe is on a program called The last leg, in which first started to talk about the 2012 paralymics and had a section called #Isitok which asks question about disability, which they kept when it returned but for what happened during the week.
Oh I didn't know that! Thank you. I'm still learning about these comedians and their projects. He's pretty funny.
I love taskmaster when I started watching years ago I don't know any of the contestants but season 4 is my favorite "rod" is hilarious
Ohhh yes. I've heard about - and am eagerly anticipating - seasons 3 through 5. :)
Its very odd to me that Americans have mainly sweet pies, savoury pies is super common over here!
I have to say even meat pie sounds odd to me, we just say pie or what ever is in the pie, popular pies include chicken and gravy, chicken, mushroom and gravy pie, steak pie, steak and kidney pie, fish pie (though the fish pie is usually served differently and sometimes can look more like a shepherd's pie or cottage pie instead of a pastry surrounding it) and pork pie (though this again is slightly different than our other pies and can be eaten as a snack and cold, while the others you definitely wouldn't eat cold or as a snack, you also wouldn't pour loads of gravy on it, unlike the other savoury pies and so on :D
Talking about pies in general, I do believe you have something called a pecan pie, which I think is very rare over here or at least I don't remember seeing it, so I'd love to try that at some point
@@DavidvsFilm nice! Thats so cool! Its so much fun when a location that you know well is on a film or a TV show!
Some tasks are better than others.
I think Tim and Alex have a chat in the pub, and Tim gets a writing credit.
@@qwertyTRiG hilarious if that's the case
To answer your question, yes, you do have favorites you root for. But sometimes, when the lineup is so good, you start to get to know everyone and end up rooting for all of them.
That’s exactly the situation I’m beginning to find myself in with this season. I could make an argument for wanting any of them to win. :)
There have been a few seasons of Taskmast where I didn't really know any of the contestants, but you always find some gems in each season. The most recent season was all gems. Even the ones that aren't my faves are great.
Yes!! If they're all at least this good or better, I'll be a happy camper for a while lol
You know I love me some TaskMaster! Im so glad you are enjoying this too!
God yes. My 9-5 job has been busy lately, Dolly, but I plan to watch 5 and 6 of Season 1 ASAP to get them up on Patreon this week. So be on the lookout my man..
Love your reaction to this amazing show! Most seasons are amazing and I'll be here all the way through!
Hey thank you so much!! The plan is to eventually reserve an upload spot on Wednesdays/Thursdays for this or other fine British programming. But in 2 years of doing reactions on RUclips, either through general life or my own procrastination, I think I've successfully stuck to a schedule for 3 solid weeks. lol
If you want to see more of Josh, he's one of the three hosts of The Last Leg, a chat show. It's pretty funny, since the hosts are all comedians.
Thank you so much!!! I made a note of this. I'm not sure if you watched my intro before the reaction, but if not, this is EXACTLY how I learn about new shows- through great comments like yours. So thanks again!
Some contestants just have fun others get very competitive , please enter into game select your own possession for the first task
So true. What are you saying about the possession for the first task?
Greg also played a teacher in The Inbetweeners.
Most new series have two to three unknowns, even to us Brits. The casting is so good that in each series, the more you watch, the better it gets.
Oh good, I'm glad to know it's not just me lol. And I'm already enjoying this so much, so if it gets even better, I'm here for it!
I Like This Show Because Its So Interesting!😊
What up buddy?? It is interesting, isn't it? I had to go to the mall today to drop off my computer at the Apple store, and I thought about asking some people if they were 55. lol
So happy you are continuing your TM journey!!
Thank you!! So happy you're back to check out this video :)
Alex almost always does what he’s told unless the task says he can’t.
I really love his overall demeanor. I've actually been thoroughly impressed with everyone associated with this show. They're all great in their own way.
Love seeing your reactions ❤
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you.
You look like you are wearing a cape !
Haha are talking about the back of my chair? Most people ask me "Why are you wearing a veil?"
I’m liking this new journey of ours! Yay, Roshi (sp?) and yes, you’re right, they should get extra points for compelling music. Peace …
@@pjb3583 Heck yeah! 😎🫶
