  • Short branch line to serve the Butlins holiday camp from a double facing junction between Hunmanby and Filey. The station had four extremely long terminus island platforms. There were never any buildings on the platforms except a small ticket collectors box near the buffer stops but there was a small single storey concrete building on the very large
concourse (both buildings demolished, foundations clearly visible). Holiday makers were taken from the station into the holiday camp by road 'train' running under the road through a private subway.
When the station opened most holiday makers traveled to the camp by train but as the years went by more and more people came by car until it was uneconomic to keep the station open. The last train ran on Saturday 17th July 1977.
All platforms, concourse, exit steps, fencing and concrete lampposts are still in situ - the lampposts even still have the public address speakers attached. Site now used to store dumped agricultural machinery and old circus lorries.
It is interesting to note that while the station remains largely intact the holiday camp has been razed to the ground

Brilliant !!! great memories from arriving there in the 60's.Just think how many thousand's of happy holiday makers once walked on those platforms .very sad really it is all gone.We now fly all over the world, but nothing, nothing could replace the excitement of arriving at Filey, as a kid in the 60's And now I will show You what We have Lost (Charles Dickens)

I remember working at Butlins Filey as a news cameraman it was one of the best jobs I could have had I can't remember a great deal about the camp but I remember I had to have a finished 15 minutes newsreel to show every Friday night it was great fun you had free access to every show that went on in the camp and every place was open to you to film ma at that time we were using 16mm black and white film two rolls of Plus X and one roll of triax was allowed each week sometimes it run a little over and sometimes a little longer we had a dark room on the Helford station which we developed all the film in and edited it on an Old Bell and Howell 16mm projector remember it well

I loved watching your newsreels, even though it meant 'home tomorrow'.
You don't still have any, I suppose?

I have just had a visit to see the old station 13th May 2022!!!!!!! What a terrible sight to see indeed!!!!!!! Nothing, but nothing remains!!!!!!!! all the 4 Platforms have now been Bulldozed into a corner.I did actually locate the Steps up to the Main Scarborough/ Brid Road,The original Gate and handrail can still be located, but almost impassable. No trace of the Tunnel where the land Train ran!!!!!!!!!!Just preserve the images in this Video, and the memories in Your mind, they are all that are left to a once exciting time arriving at Butlins Filey, the best Holidays as a kid in the 60's.The site has now been completely re-built, "The Bay Filey" on the side of the John Paul Jones Pub there is a plaque to Sir Billy, Quote"on this land once stood the largest Holiday Camp in the World"

I went to the old station platforms yesterday.Although i believe it is private land we didn't see anybody, and all that is nearby is a farm.It was sad to see it as it is now,but also very interesting. If you need any directions get in touch on here.
