Personally, I think that's why Vocaloid music (and videos, MMD, etc) is so amazing; These songs, these melodies, these lyrics, these performers - they can mean different things to different people when they listen to the same song - Even the same song to me "hits" me differently on some days and differently on other days. For me, I believe Monochrome Blue Sky is ALL ABOUT where we've ALL been in our lives - either as teenagers, or perhaps an older person going through a life change - like a job loss. We have ALL sat at a school desk or work desk and looked out of a window and tried to see our future... Just like Hatsune Miku does in this video and song. In the song, I believe she is worried about the fact that she feels that all of her other friends (Rin, Len, Kaito, Meiko and Luka-chan) have already opened their "life book" and have a clear path for their lives forward... The stairs upward. But Miku's book is "monochrome" blank white. No future? She's not sure. So she starts up the monochrome stairs (of life, I feel) and somewhere along the way, JUST when she thinks perhaps it's time to give up, (perhaps die???) she finds "herself" her true colors which paints the stairs blue! She finds her future! And like all great Vocaloid songs, THE FUTURE IS IN HER!!! IT WAS INSIDE OF HER ALL ALONG! This is what I got out of this song. I am sure others will interpret it differently. But this is my interpretation. I particularly loved the "Bridge" portion of this song at 02:36, as well as precious Miku-chan changing into her electric angel outfit at 03:15. Replace this phrase with "life" and you get wondering who chooses our lifes? Are we really of our own free will? Or do we have a track laid out for us? Is there someone waiting for me? Many people question about the point of things but at the end of the day we just leave it at that, and just continue on with our lives x3
