mom is super wise. Alot of kids upbringing in SG neglected the importance of learning chinese. As China emerging as the top 2 economy in the world and possibly first in the world, its paramount all kids in SG to learn, know how to communicate in chinese in decades ahead just like how important English was for the 20th century.
Congratulations to Max and his family, he grew up in a family of love & support & uplifts him. They are all so humble! Many mindlessly state that of course to succeed you need wealth etc, with that kind of mindset, even if you have all the wealth, I doubt you can even achieve what this young man can. I do not agree that Singapore's younger generation cannot speak Chinese anymore . It is amazing that Max can speak Mandarin , Swiss German and English and we do not need to emphasize that other Young Singaporean cannot speak Mandarin ANYMORE. Not so good perhaps . But how can 10 years of Mandarin as a second language and cannot speak Mandarin ANYMORE. Are you serious ???

是啊。现在新加坡年轻父母真的无语。有的明明会说华语却不跟小孩说华语，搞到小孩的华语比不是纯华人的华语还糟糕。教育部当初推出华文B选项是一大败笔。再早之前，中小学生可是个个都想争进入高级母语班级的啊。现在有的小孩子听到华语，好像要他们的命似的。华文华语有那么可怕吗？

我本身小时候只接触过华语，学校华语一直是小儿科，但英文是学校才开始学的（家里没人会）所以英文烂到初中，但掌握一定程度后，学业开始突飞猛进（上课考试终于完全看得懂，听得懂了）。 这几十年因为常用，英文进步到近乎母语水平，华语反而退化到只会打（字）不会手写。环境决定一切，重点还是父母要给力和财政规划啊， 你不用孩子养，孩子甚至可以啃老，放任他怎么搞都不至于跌到底层， 但多数孩子的生计只能靠自己，更惨是被父母当养老金的。
其实在新加坡，很多家庭条件好的家庭对孩子的中文要求越高，因为他们对孩子的要求是绝对不能不会自己的母语，这也是以此来教导孩子‘’尊重自己的文华才会得到别人的尊重‘’这个简单的道理！看看了超级投资人Jim Rogers 的连个女儿们“快乐和小蜜蜂”，金发碧眼，中文讲得非常流利，令人羡慕！
