    Just came across this video, nice work! I thought I'd offer one small common to anyone reading this. That first lick, while looking like Am (dorian), it's over D7 from Sunshine of Your Love. It's a cool placement of a minor7 arpeggio over a dominant 7 chord.

    Thank you again , happy holidays!

      Mr1GingerBread1 hey thanks for checking out my channel. As far as Benson picking, I would focus on listening to his records and then mimicking by listening vs watching video and mimicking by watching.
      If that doesn’t help there are a ton of cats on RUclips that can benson pick better then me lol and they got the demos to prove it.
      Cheers

    Learnt a lot from this video.
    If it weren't for you I wouldn't have noticed that the last two chords in lick 5 and 6 were three note dominant voicings.
    Just a random commentary, over the years I've noticed every jazz guitarist knows some variation of the first lick lol.

    First off, these are great, so thank you. But in the future, can you just add the info of what chord, progression or harmony Isaiah (or any musician) is playing these over? I find that ideas this aren't useful unless I know the musical context to make it a practical application for myself. BTW, I know you talk about it a little at the end. Just a little info with each idea to help.

    Great. Now every cat is gonna be trying to squeeze these in wherever they can, like they're the one's who heard it and put in the time to shed it out. It'll end up being like the lick everyone plays, but wrong and out of context. Like learning the wrong part.

  • @Sea_jsun_air
    @Sea_jsun_air 7 лет назад +4

    What's the point wasting ur time learning licks?! Isaiah plays from his ❤& Soul! No 1 can "teach" or 'learn" what God gave him gifted talented musical Supernatural genius! Now go teach that!

    • @SoulfulGuitarLessons
      @SoulfulGuitarLessons  7 лет назад +11

      KINGS ROAR I understand that the sum is greater than the parts. But with this logic, there would no point in ever studying licks from Hendrix, Clapton, Django, or any of the greats. However, every player studies the greats. Why? Because there is something to be learned from breaking down the sum into smaller elements. By your logic, there would be no point in ever studying anyone great at his or her craft

    • @Sea_jsun_air
      @Sea_jsun_air 7 лет назад

      Alec !Ur right, alot of musicians study better musicians If so learn "the whole song" it's okay to learn Joca, Miles, Duke and West! Save the 👅for wen u know how to apply them on stage...

      These licks are crazy fast and props to Alec for taking the time to break it down for us. There are possibly ZERO vids of Sharkey teaching any of his techniques. But ya, the goal obviously isnt to copy, but to learn these licks to sharpen your skills and maybe incorporate these ideas into your playing.
