Meng 1/48 F/A-18F SUPER HORNET
The FULL BUILD showcasing this recent kit of the Super Hornet.
FULL VLOGS and explanation videos of this build are available via PATREON
NOTE: RIO with JHMCS helmet is deliberate error as I wanted both crew "visors down"
JDAM and GBU markings are questionable... the depiction of the ablative coating in 48th scale can be done with mr surfacer but looks typically over done and out of scale in 48th.

The F/A-18F, nicknamed Super Hornet is a two-seat carrier-based fighter aircraft developed by The Boeing Company. This multirole fighter can perform operations like maintaining air superiority, ground attack, maritime strike, air control and refueling of other aircraft. The surface of this aircraft is coated with a special material that can absorb radar waves to greatly reduce the radar reflection, and it has the capability of stealth combat. It has as many as 11 weapon mounting points, and it can carry almost all types of U.S. Navy ammunition including the Joint Direct Attack Ammunition (JDAM) and the Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW). As an important carrier-based fighter aircraft in active service in the U.S. Navy, the F/A-18F Super Hornet has participated in the U.S. military's combat missions in many places around the world in recent years. Just watched your Meng F/A-18F build again. I can’t say enough of about your excellent videos. You show what you use, tools and materials as well as techniques very clearly and legible. Thank you very much !!
Big thanks Dan 👍 I really appreciate your words. Very glad if the video helps you in any way.
The painting you did on the visors is super clever
Turned out amazing! I just ordered this one and the f-18e as well. I'll definitely be back to watch again during my build. Thanks for sharing!!
Excellent work!
Your attention to micro detail work is OUTSTANDING. Love it!
Excellent work 👍
Well done
First time I see the salt technique used that way😲
Man , the model is insane , one of the best I have ever seen. Especially the details
Big thanks glad you like the video 👍
Very nice !👏 Built this one a few months ago ...great kit. HAPPY SCALING 👋.
thanks ! This kit really surprised me in just how good a job meng did with the overall design.
Fantastic😮😮👏👏
Just finished all the sub-assemblies on mine - will be the next one on my bench after refurbishing the 'man cave', so great timing Bear !
Best from NZ.
Hi Ian ! You will really enjoy the build. We have a small model building community on Patreon if you are interested.

Спасибо вам большое 👍
Unglaublich!!!!!!!!!!!!👍
I thought Tamiya was king. But then came Meng...
Очень хорошо.
Just wondering what red marker you used for the outer bits on the landing gear doors and by that I mean the red outlines? love the build!
thanks just use a sharpie or similar
VERY nice ! But For a Kit that size, I would expect better Details on the exhaust nozzles!!!
Have a look at a real hornets nozzles... what do you expect rivets ???
👍
Spectacular, good job, almost realistic, congratulations 👍👌👏
Is that a wax color pencil you used to weather the landing gear?
Amazing work! Can I ask, what type of grey pencil did u use to make scratches on the legs/ landing gear struts? Thank u
Hey Big thanks 😊 just use a soft pencil
Greetings Bear, congratulations on the outstanding build on the F-18, you have done a brilliant job, best regards from Australia 👍👍👍
Hi Les many thanks glad you enjoyed the build.
I have this kit and have watched this video about 3 times...absolutely gorgeous build. I have 1 question though, when you are removing the rock salt with a brush, how are you cleaning off the remaining "residue"?
Just use some water with a very small amount of dish soap and gently brush the model to remove salt residue. Thank you 👍
@@TheBearScaleModels thank you...gonna try that this weekend
How many techniques would you like in this video?
Yes.
Hey i love this build so much and what makes it soo good us your excellent painting and weathering details keep up the good work! And i wanted to ask whether the paint and stuff is included in the kit?
Big thanks. No paint or glue is included with this kit.
@@TheBearScaleModels ok thanks, and are the minifigures included? If not where did you get them from.
What did you used to paint JDAM and GBU-12?
Nice build.. what bluish grey or grey is that?
??
Beautifull model. How was the kit and is it better than a kinetic kit?
The kinetic kit is the legacy hornet... and I have not built one. But I have to say that Meng have done an outstanding job the fit and ease of construction is Tamiya level .. I really recommend 👌
I really want to build this kit but i am discouraged by the nose to fuselage seam. Ever since i can remember f-18 kits, the engineering of the nose section has always been the same. ☹️
The color of the fighter is very nice, but I am used to using the color of MR.Hobby, do you have the corresponding color number?
YES
shit is too beautifull to be real
всё хорошо но швы на колёсах оставил
congratulations a beautiful rich in details, save from a plastimodelist from Brazil
thank you Diogo ! very appreciated
hey can you do the mi 8 scale 1/48 from zvezda please?
I have the mi8 I will make a review but was planning to build that maybe next year.
DEAR FRIEND WICH IS THE NAME OF THE THING THAT YOU PUT IN THE LANDING BAY TO AVOID PAINT IT?
that is packing foam for electronic equipment
@@TheBearScaleModels thanks dear friend!!
Is this a good model kit for a starter
?
probably not as a first kit. I have a lot of tutorials on Patreon if you are interested in learning how to build.
How many hours?
Yes !
As an Ex Royal Air Force engineer, no weapons have time to weather. We upload less than
60 minutes before flight, and unload if not used with-in the same time-line on recovery.
Yes it's your model etc, but just wished to let you know the real world.
Guess what smart ass... weapons do appear weathered on a lot of USN aircraft during deployments... as can easily be found in photographic references of the real deal on operational duty... welcome to the real world mate.
