I've been a quilter over the last 25+ years and have accumulated so much fabric it's insane (especially since I never have what I need). Now that I'm retired, I have more time to spend with my hobbies. Last year I started to embroider. This year my new hobby is cardmaking and it's what caused me to re-evaluate my 'studio'. When I craft, I jump in full blown so as you can imagine I'm accumulating more things; luckily cardmaking and planner items require smaller storage requirements. I've been working on de-stashing 2 closets so that I can organize the fabric and embroidery supplies I'm keeping more effectively. I feel my greatest success so far is that I have created zones to sew/quilt, embroider, and papercraft and so far so good. I'm excited for July's Patreon focus - this will help keep me motivated to finish up the re-organizing phase.

Zones are such a fabulous way to start the organization process....so helpful for how our brains work!

You have a wonderful studio with an abundance of all types of supplies. When I find I’m starting to over look a certain item of my supplies, to me it indicates to stop buying anymore of that item or purge and refresh with new inventory. We artists/crafters sometimes get out of control buying… 🥰 Don’t forget to insure the contents of your studio… it’s worth gold🤣😂🤣

Appreciate hearing about the hits and misses for specific storage functions. :). In addition to open vs closed storage, rigidity can also be a factor ime. I got a bunch of 25.4 cm by 24.5 cm (ten inches) fabric cubes and they work only for light, bulky items for me and are otherwise too floppy. Once I finally understood that, I switched to cardboard magazine boxes and that resolved my struggle. Sounds like the stickers in books are a win, but the loose sheets of them are not because they are more complicated to browse and engage with. I will keep my ears open for possible updates on your misses in other videos. :)

Idea for your jumping ink daubers - place the front bottom edge of the storage units on a shim so that the units tilt toward the wall like your pen storage units do. You could try sliding a yardstick under that front edge as an experiment to see if you like the effect. Or maybe cut a wedge of wood (into a shape like a doorstop) as deep as the storage units for them to sit on & tilt toward the wall. I hope that helps any at all.

I am in the process of completely overhauling my craft room. I last reorganized at the start of the pandemic and it worked great for scrapbooking the following 2 years. Now being 3 years later, all my kids have graduated from high school, I’ve started card making, cricut crafting and my supplies have tripled and greatly diversified. Needless to say the things I use most often are stacked in closets and hard to access and I have about 40 completed 12x12 scrapbook albums at my fingertips in a very cluttered non functional craft room. So I’m destashing and reorganizing to get the albums in harder to reach places and the cards, paper, stickers/ephemera,die cuts where I can easily access them. It’s like those little plastic square games with the numbered tiles on them that you try to get in order with only one spare spot lol! Everything must move to move one item! Frustrating but it will be so worth it. Thanks for these inspiring videos!

    Hi there from Sydney.
Cas from Clutterbug explains why different storage options work best for different people. She describes 4 organising styles, based on whether you like macro or micro storage categories, and whether you like to see or hide your stuff.

Many years ago there was a great book called “the organized and inspired scrapbooker.” It was so helpful in any organization area. It quizzed for open storage, closed, lidded or not. I realized I am a “chucker”…. Lids do not work for me. I just chuck items back into their container. I really recommend that one think about these before finishing organizing. It worked in the kitchen, the bathroom, closets, etc. the book is out of print I believe, but just think about the ideas- open vs lidded, clear container or opaque/can't see inside.

Sticker solution: Make your own version of the scraprack by totally Tiffany. I have both. Works great! One is for traveling, and the other is for the craft room.

Omg you could sell the pen storage! At least sell an svg version for your glowforge (cricut for me, so in chipboard). Wonderful idea! I LOVE the size and the tray on the bottom!!! That would be much go back/ curren5 project area! Also.. maybe add tabs somehow to the front so you could add a label of the type or color of marker in that tray! Beautiful! I love your room so much!

Maybe moving your sticker sheets to where your sticker books are might be good since that storage is working well for you. Moving out some duplicate books or out of season to a back stock area might free up some space in that area to be able to include the sticker sheets.

What about putting a day a month that you only use that extraneous drawer. Or if you purge donate to a local planner club or school. As a teacher it would be so cool if someone in your capacity came and did a fun planner day. You could give tips and it would be a fun day of collaboration for the staff.

Another great video. Now I did notice your big cutting mat wasn't laying flat in the drawer. You might want to address that before it warps. Which reminds me, I now have a space for mine when the weather cools off and my craft/laundry room isn't a sauna.

Another idea for the lively ink daubers - can u put a small Velcro dot on the front part of each shelf and on the side of each dauber? I use them in my acrylic holder for my pouncers and they are easy to apply as they are small, already sticky and come off easily with no residue. Good luck!

  • @annsmith5625

Maybe consider laying down the ink pad/dauber storage units to keep them from falling out. Maybe room under the washi tape wall? Amazon shows companies are storing in clear sectioned plastic cases . They are promoting the sale of blending tools in the box but its an idea. ⚾️

    • @ScrappyWife

Oh My Gosh! Stop buying stickers!! I’m overwhelmed seeing all you have. Other supplies look under control. Maybe just weigh down the end of the ink brushes, so when you slam the drawers they won’t fall out. Like having open top containers/dividers, so you can see what you have. Good luck with the stickers. Maybe by now you have culled through them.
