It's totally amazing how the human brain works, and this proves it! I haven't seen these commercials since they had aired back in the late 70's, and had basically forgotten them, and yet, I still remember them. Something as simple as a 30 second commercial. It's really awesome! Thanks Dave for preserving my past!
Frightening how we are programmed by the propaganda. Imagine what else you were force fed by the media back in the 1970s that is now subconsciously molding your personality and driving your behavior. Frightening.
Man. I was 9 years old in 1978 and I remember pretty much every commercial in this video even though I haven't seen them in decades. Though, I do have somewhat mixed feelings over seeing them again these days. While it does bring back fond, nostalgic memories of myself as a kid, sitting in front of the tv watching my favorite cartoons, movies, and tv shows, it also serves to bring up memories of my poverty and hunger around the same time. You see, we were dirt poor. We could hardly afford groceries. Hunger was a constant companion. So, more often than not, I was watching tv with a growling, empty belly. Seeing food scenes in movies and TV shows, and tv commercial advertisements for various food products would drive me up a wall. Cool whip, nestea iced tea, sealtest ice cream, stove stop stuffing, etc, while watching the tv commercials for them, I recall wishing I could have the privilege of feeding my face with those food products, among many others, to put in my stomach.
Wow the commercials we've long forgotten growing up we still remember them! How amazing how the brain can keep that sentimental memory. The days we never took long distance phone calls for granted.
Linda Easley Those sound good too. Was watching a reseller vid that had a lot of Nanny era kitchen ware. Made me think more about how during heat waves she would do cold salads for dinner to avoid turning on the oven. NY with no AC. Different times 😃
I was 5 yrs old. I remember so many of these ads, esp Jordache, and Potamkin. Love the classic Caddy for $9200 😮. These promos for the news are from NBC 4 NY. Chuck Scarborough still broadcasts the 6pm news. And I remember Chemical Bank and Manufacturers Hanover Trust
Two of the most painful things are in this. 1) The Nestea Plunge (a "belly smack on your back") It never NOT hurt when we would try it. 2) Sunbeam Razors. They did NOT cut the whisker, it tore it straight out of your face. Like an Epilady for the chin.)
I love every one of these commercials because the actors who are in them don't act like a$$holes like the ones in today's do and second is you don't hear the phrase DOT COM every 5 seconds . Thank goodness for the mute button and the channel changer button too.
We don't mix in crushed fruit, and we make our own crust, but my family makes that cool whip yogurt pie recipe. We've been making it as long as I remember, and I'm 30. I didn't realize it was a cool whip recipe first.
8:58 Alan Bleviss on the voice-over for Excedrin. "Pick Enterprise... we'll pick you up!" That's also Alan Bleviss. 2:37 Jonathan Schwartz on the VO for Chemical Bank. Radio listeners in New York City will know this voice. 1:31 Len Gochman on the voice-over for the Bell System. An actor who became an all-time great VO talent. 7:14 Joe Sirola on the VO for Sunbeam. He voiced tons of Wendy's commercials.
6:37 - More with the late, legendary Luba Potamkin! _"If your car doesn't have this nameplate_ (closeup of the Potamkin logo) _on the back of it, you've probably paid more than you should have!"_
Phones were anchored to something and people sat or stood and talked. Even portable phones would carry only so far. Now they walk or drive down the street and pay attention to little else......
@Donald Porter The thing is, anyone over age 25 remembers landlines being the norm. And by extension, busy signals, as most people didn’t (yet) have call waiting and voicemail. The majority of people didn’t even have cell phones until the new millennium. So most of the people absorbed into their smartphones, Generation Z excluded, remembers these times. I think what we gained probably far outweighs what we might have lost with new technology, for the most part.
Adjusting for inflation though, $9292 in 1978 is approximately $36,740.03 in 2020. Which means it’s roughly the same price. Maybe even a bit *more* expensive back then. I’m always amused when people look through rose-tinted glasses, and think things were actually cheaper.
Are you sure this was from 1978 and not 1979? I was born on June 15 1978, which I heard was a Thursday, so Father's Day couldn't have been the 17th that year. Oh wait, the Sears ad proves it, i was right. :)
How you going get excited over seeing a commercial that you haven't seen since your childhood, Lol.. Well I did I thought 🤦🤦👀 I seen sealtest ice cream I was like I ate that as a kid.... 🙌🙌🙌💯💯💯
The Girl in the Ice Tea Commercial Falling in the pool Thats SUPER GROUPIE ! Pamela De Bars wrote a few books about her Led Zeppelinn Who Jagger and other R&R God's Adventures She made being a GROUPIE adorable..lol

PilotVBall Programmed? We didn’t buy any of these products with maybe the exception of Folger’s. If we were “programmed” to buy them, they failed.
@Joseph P. Arsenault you mean to tell me they advertised the 78 Coupe DeVille for 3 years I don't think so pal I'm just giving you a hard time
Awwwww! Hickory farms! The beef stick, the sesame sticks, the cheese samples, the hard candies.....i have such great memories of that place!
I had completely forgotten about Sealtest Ice Cream. The things that you are reminded of whenever you look at these old commercial mash up channels.
"Reach out and touch someone"- good memories.
@Cuck ButtFurd MeToo > MGTOW
Why would a monopoly need to advertise?
My brother used to sing “reach out and touch someone” before hitting me.

I love everything 70s and early 80s, thank you so much Dave, it brings back memories of childhood, more simple times, and it makes me feel cozy.
That's Wendy Malick in the Excedrin commercial!
Wow the commercials we've long forgotten growing up we still remember them!
How amazing how the brain can keep that sentimental memory.
The days we never took long distance phone calls for granted.
I remember eating sealtest icecream as a kid growing up on long island.
What town ?
Mario and Dee Ann Andretti we’re married almost 57 years when she passed away in 2018. May she rest in peace.
I haven't seen these commercials in over 40 years, yet I could sing every single jingle as if I had no ownership of my own brain. Wild!
Man how I miss Hickory Farms!
That lady is about 70 now.
I still miss it whenever I go back home and go to the mall. We used to walk around the store and fuel up on samples before more shopping. lol
Hickory Farms stores were great, I miss them!
My goodness the nostalgia! ❤️
The jordache ad brought it back! My memories don't go before the late 70s.

I was 4 in '78 but I definitely remember some of the commercials and the dang jingles...yes I sang along to the Jordache commercial 😏😝
I loved my Jordache jeans! How did we ever survive getting skin tight jeans on before they all added Lycra? Teens today have NO idea 😂
I miss the local/regional commercials, especially the ones like Mrs. Potemkin of Potemkin Cadillac.
"The Jordache Look!!!!" :) :)
The ad that started it all! The designer jeans fad!

Back then you actually listen to commercials. Know we go online for reviews lol.
I had forgotten about Mrs. Olsen peddling Folgers coffee.
10:24 Easy Driver makes the toughest screw job easy....for a few days until it wears out, after which you're "screwed"!
Edward Creter either that or you strip the damn screw with that contraption
I guess the people at DeWalt saw this problem and knew they had to do something about it
Sealtest omg I remember that ice cream. I was only 2 in 1978
I remember when yogurt pies were a big thing . My mom used to make them and they were very good
How are you Linda?
My Nan used to make them in the summer for dessert. Strawberry 🍓 was my fav.
@@samanthab1923 my mom made the strawberry ,too .She loved lemon so sometimes she would use lemon yogurt, and even chocolate

So hard to believe that it used to take 2 hours for a pregnancy test to work! How times have changed.
No kidding..I just found out I'm NOT pregnant!! Whew!!!
+jeremy desrochers lol. Too bad, you would be rich. I think you would also need a c section.
God, that thing looked like something out of chemistry set!
She could have drove to the doctors office and back in 2 hours.
Now, they need a CoViD19 ( Coronavirus ) test that takes less than two hours

Nestea plunge. “Hey lady your phone is f%#*ed. “
Back when home pregnancy tests took ‘just two hours’ 😳
To me the craziest thing is that it seems as nothing has changed in 40 years. Just newer technology.
Miss the way life used to be. Sad how it is today.
No more reach out and touch someone. Now it's reach for your smart phone and touch the screen.

"Retro" means something patterned after an old style. "Vintage" means something that is old. So, this is a video of VINTAGE commercials.
Is that a real song in the chemical bank commercial, or just a generic song for the ad?
