I was born in 1990. But this song is making me think back at the old days when I was a little boy. It's an amazing feeling, so fantastic what a song can do!
To me, this song encapsulates the tragedy of circumstance. It seems to suggest that the death of the boyfriend and her inability to reach him were just a tragic coincidence. I think what makes this song particularly saddening is the fact that the woman is unable to move on from his death... She's perpetually haunted by his memory and by thoughts of what she could have done had things been different. Either way, one of my favourite love songs.
@@julianbeck6401 No idea where you got that from, if that's your interpretation that's fine, but the way you phrased it sounded like you were confidently stating a fact. This is what Mike himself has to say about the song "When asked if 'Moonlight Shadow' is a reference to John Lennon's murder in a 1995 interview, Oldfield responded: "Not really... well, perhaps, when I look back on it, maybe it was. I actually arrived in New York that awful evening when he was shot and I was staying at the Virgin Records house in Perry Street, which was just a few blocks down the road from the Dakota Building where it happened, so it probably sank into my subconscious. It was originally inspired by a film I loved - Houdini, starring Tony Curtis, which was about attempts to contact Houdini after he'd died, through spiritualism... it was originally a song influenced by that, but a lot of other things must have crept in there without me realising it."
i was born in 91, but my dad always played this in the car and it was my favorite song of the cd and will always remind me of my early childhood *nostalgia*

Damien De Backer What does being a die hard fan for two bands from a completely different Genre have to do with liking this song? Please elaborate on that because I am a hardcore fan for many bands/groups/artists and I find that I have favourites across most Genres, liking one band/group/artist's music should not impact how you feel about music from a different band/group/artist...
Fangsthevampire For example I'm a fanatic of Avenged Sevenfold, heavy style. It's strange but this kind of songs makes me think that other styles are good too. This song, like Total Eclypse of the Earth, can make me another person (in therms of music)
pachaquet Oh, okay. Thank you for clarifying. I know it's possible to like different styles of music and to feel connected to each for different reasons, but the way it was phrased did not make sense.
This song reflects a very similar (but metaphorical) situation in my life in the 80's when this song came out. It always makes me feel this feel, bittersweet longing in my heart for him, for me, for that time... Such a beautiful, heartbreaking song

It's a great song but the vocalist, Maggie Reilly should've been given the main credit on the label of the 45, with Mike Oldfield as composer and producer/arranger.
The lyrics make your voice so beautiful. Not many songs have discovered how the human voice can find the loveliest sound spinning from your lips. I listened and sang this for many times when young. I loved my voice and the lyrics it spells. The lyrics is absolutely breathable and light-hearted :)

Strangely enough I heard this song just on Wednesday (September 14th, 2011) when coming back from the hospital after a test for something which could have a devastating impact on the rest of my life , or rather what may be left of it. I 'd heard it before but never paid attention, I only hope that the listening of it the other day is not prophetic.
When i was around 5 yr old, my dad played this song for me and i got it on cd. Every time i played the song, i was acting like i played the guitar! It was so sick! I loved the song and always will! This brings back memories, that i'll never forget.

This is such a wonderful and so sad song! I played it longer time ago in our Chruch Band "Signs of Hope" in South Germany. Music is unbelievable for our emotions.
Mike Oldfield ranks in my book very, very high, since Tubular Bells, though some of his songs can demand a little more love than others. Moonlight Shadow is fantastic (as is "To France"), not only because it's a great song, also because I simply love Maggie Reilly's voice.
Mitica 1983 dalle mie parti si soffriva (irpinia) ma era tutto piu bello, e sta canzone rimbobava nel prefabbricato dove abitavo per il terremoto......lacrime
I remember stationed in Germany in the early eighties and I believe every jukebox had this song. Mike Oldfield so good. Never made it to mainstream US. What a shame. Like Rory Gallagher.
Still this song instantly takes me to an amazing place, just got to love Mike oldfield for this song plus the amazing tubular bells, it is just amazing how the music from legends have a certain magic that music today lacks so much, thank you for sharing, peace and love from n Ireland
I've heard a nightcore of this. It has a stupid techno solo in it that doesn't fit, so it's not the original. Nonetheless humanity has made a mess of this amazing song.
I was actually a nine year old in the supermarket on a summer day waiting at the pay desk to buy FIFA world cup 2014 figures. At 8 in the evening, when the supermarket was deserted and about to close (I was the last one to at the paydesk that day), with the sunset outside leaving an orangy-blueish-yellowish sky outside. You can't really believe how all of this sounded so Stranger Things-ish to a nine year old me XD.
To everyone who lost loved ones to gun violence: my friend was going home late at night after playing a gig and was shot in the head by a man who tried to take her laptop as she was getting off the vehicle. RIP T. You're missed.
For all the people talking about the "nightcore version", that's by Groove Coverage. Someone just increased the tempo and pitch which is fine, except that it sucks the artist doesn't get credit.
it doesn't necessarily suck. I think it sounds fine just like the original. but music is all opinion basically. but I do think people should start crediting the original artists when they put up songs in the nightcore genre.
Branden Snyder I like the electronic covers quite a bit. I was just saying that it's unfortunate that the artists don't get credit because the tags and titles on youtube are generally Nightcore - . It would be better if it were - (Nightcore mix or Nightcore edit).
you are right but it takes a bit more than just increasing the pitch, it takes serious skill to make a nightcore version really good, but yeah it sucks that many people dont even know who the original singer is

Alejado por una sombra a la luz de la luna
El fue baleado seis veces por un hombre que corría
Y ella no pudo encontrar cómo pasar
Yo me quedo, yo rezo
Te veré en el cielo a la distancia
Yo me quedo, yo rezo

I cried while listening to this
Cheer yourself up by playing the song at x1,25 speed... :)

nostalgia and euphoria
The last that ever she saw him
Carried away by a moonlight shadow
He passed on worried and warning
Carried away by a moonlight shadow
Lost in a riddle that Saturday night
Far away on the other side
He was caught in the middle of a desperate fight
And she couldn't find how to push through
The trees that whisper in the evening
Carried away by a moonlight shadow
Sing a song of sorrow and grieving
Carried away by a moonlight shadow
All she saw was a silhouette of a gun
Far away on the other side
He was shot six times by a man on the run
And she couldn't find how to push through
I stay, I pray
See you in heaven far away
I stay, I pray
See you in heaven one day
Four AM in the morning
Carried away by a moonlight shadow
I watched your vision forming
Carried away by a moonlight shadow
Stars move slowly in a silvery night
Far away on the other side
Will you come to talk to me this night
But she couldn't find how to push through
Far away on the other side
Caught in the middle of a hundred and five
The night was heavy and the air was alive
But she couldn't find how to push through
Carried away by a moonlight shadow
Carried away by a moonlight shadow
Far away on the other side
But she couldn't find how to push through.
Good job
Everybody tells her sad storys because of that song..
Then me: im german anf here to learn this song for music
Hahahhaha sameeee
It's a great song but the vocalist, Maggie Reilly should've been given the main credit on the label of the 45, with Mike Oldfield as composer and producer/arranger.
i take it you have already, balphdogseamonster?
He passed on worried and warning
Carried away by a Jungian Shadow.
The lyrics make your voice so beautiful. Not many songs have discovered how the human voice can find the loveliest sound spinning from your lips. I listened and sang this for many times when young. I loved my voice and the lyrics it spells. The lyrics is absolutely breathable and light-hearted :)
Lol

This song kinda reminds me of the past, when my parents weren't broke up, and everything was okay....

It's a song from my childhood😍
Strangely enough I heard this song just on Wednesday (September 14th, 2011) when coming back from the hospital after a test for something which could have a devastating impact on the rest of my life , or rather what may be left of it. I 'd heard it before but never paid attention, I only hope that the listening of it the other day is not prophetic.
I hope, you are still there fine and reading this. If not, you may be in a better place.
When i was around 5 yr old, my dad played this song for me and i got it on cd. Every time i played the song, i was acting like i played the guitar! It was so sick! I loved the song and always will! This brings back memories, that i'll never forget.
I listen to this in my walks at night with the stars gleaming above
The guitar solo. Omg. One of the best guitar riffs. Ever. . Brilliant song
I know this song makes you cry but remember that life is beautiful ! Have a good day ;)
Thank you so much, have you a good day too!
Oldfield does a bit of a Mark Knopfler in the middle
"Caught in the middle of a hundred and five"...
...Anyone know what that actually means?
+97channel It seems like nobody really knows (www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=2895).
+97channel I always thought it had to do with being surrounded by enemies and being about to die.
+N Plutonium +97channel That is quite accurate. The phrase is 'old English', and alludes to exactly that.
+97channel idk, but i think it refer to the howitzer gun thing... probably she/he caught in the middle of war or battle(maybe battle of his/her feeling)

when they say '''far away on the other side'' i get the feeling like im in heaven! and when they say ''the trees that wispher in the wind'' is like a ongrasped feeling! :) i think other people think to! :) :) 8)
I am 10 and this is my fav song, and my mom says that she thinks it is weird for me to have such an old song as my fav.. i dont understand why though..🧐
You are just great!
:D They are playing this song in "the Fast Show" on Dave Angel :D I loved this song since the first time I heard it "Carried away by a moonlight shadow Lost in a riddle that Saturday Night" :D
It is you who know much better than me that no one here is interested in your interests. Stop stalking the one who rejected you from the first place God knows that you have desired to ruin the innocent comments anyway. Disgusting.
This is such a wonderful and so sad song! I played it longer time ago in our Chruch Band "Signs of Hope" in South Germany. Music is unbelievable for our emotions.
This song will be forever in the story of the music!!!!
Mike Oldfield ranks in my book very, very high, since Tubular Bells, though some of his songs can demand a little more love than others.
Moonlight Shadow is fantastic (as is "To France"), not only because it's a great song, also because I simply love Maggie Reilly's voice.
Aku akan ingat lagu sampai bila2.. suka dengar .. version bass boosted too the best 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 24.6.2021
when i was five i heard this in my car now ten years have past and i have refound it and it brings backs the past and words cant say how it feels
i fcking love the 90s 80s
I first heard this song on accordion radio years ago when I was like 14
Mitica 1983 dalle mie parti si soffriva (irpinia) ma era tutto piu bello, e sta canzone rimbobava nel prefabbricato dove abitavo per il terremoto......lacrime
i love this song. i listened to it when my dog died. i was devastated. but two dogs later i still love this song. its a beautiful piece of music.
I remember stationed in Germany in the early eighties and I believe every jukebox had this song. Mike Oldfield so good. Never made it to mainstream US. What a shame. Like Rory Gallagher.
Holidays as a child in Yugoslavia it was the song on everywhere you went.. stuck with me for ever.
Still this song instantly takes me to an amazing place, just got to love Mike oldfield for this song plus the amazing tubular bells, it is just amazing how the music from legends have a certain magic that music today lacks so much, thank you for sharing, peace and love from n Ireland
This song brings me so many good memories. Thank you Mike Oldfield group! 🙏🏻👌🏻🙂❤
This song was part of a mixtape a wonderful friend of mine made me. I hope you're happy, Brian, wherever you are. You're an amazing person.
This reminds me a little bit of the band Abba.
ogogo ogpgpg
yep
Reminds me of Fleetwood Mac.
oldfield never gets old, especially his old stuff
I've heard a nightcore of this. It has a stupid techno solo in it that doesn't fit, so it's not the original. Nonetheless humanity has made a mess of this amazing song.
this was my favorite song when I was like 4 and now I'm 16 and goddamn it's got an unexpected meaning
Same here. Ive been trying to find it for 10 years now (today am 16) gives me allot of Great memories from my childhood. 😊
i like this version better and no hate please
I love this song but I just realized the tragedy in the lyrics.
This play on the radio and I love it
It makes me wanna dance
Pure talent. One of the best songs on history.
This is a beautiful song.
I like this song
This song does something with me.
I love it ❤
This song reminds me of my mum she sing this before I went to sleep when I was little
My music teacher had us playing this a few years ago. It sticked like gum.
"he was shot six times by a man on the run, and she couldnt find a way to push through" best line in the song

+bigmanbreakfast me too
+bigmanbreakfast hahahaha "Shirley wot ya doin babe!!!"
you sir are a legend
This is one of my father’s favourite songs. He passed away 2 october. 🫀🦋
I know when I ever write a sad part in my stories, this is what I listen to
This song makes me think about lost memories
I actually have never paid attention to the lyrics before wow how sad
To everyone who lost loved ones to gun violence: my friend was going home late at night after playing a gig and was shot in the head by a man who tried to take her laptop as she was getting off the vehicle. RIP T. You're missed.
Never actually thought
About the voice of singer but this one just beautiful wtf..
1:45 I'm fairly sure is "Will you come to terms with me this night"
your profile picture😂
Give me a moment for anger
For all the people talking about the "nightcore version", that's by Groove Coverage. Someone just increased the tempo and pitch which is fine, except that it sucks the artist doesn't get credit.
So true.
it doesn't necessarily suck.
It would be better if it were - (Nightcore mix or Nightcore edit).
you are right but it takes a bit more than just increasing the pitch, it takes serious skill to make a nightcore version really good, but yeah it sucks that many people dont even know who the original singer is
Seeing him in Heaven sounds like a stretch, since she worships the Dollar, and that's False Idolatry, and they had congress out of marriage.
Totally taking the piss!. I love this song! Heard it over 25 years ago, and I just remembered it. Locked in Memory. Capacity: Lifetime
2:06 i always have chills

Lost in a riddle that Saturday night and she couldn't find how to push through!!
Reminds me of early childhood about 7 years old my mum and dad used to play this on a record player 🤣😂👍❤️ I was born 79 😉
