Hello, I have spoken to you on here before, I have a 1986 Trans Am, with original 305, and I & I really want a Smeding’s 383. Because of all the crate engines online their shop seems the most reliable, but one of the problems I have is I have little to no mechanical experience, especially doing an engine swap, I also don’t have the tools, engine hoist etc… So I would have to get a mechanic to do the work. I’ve also heard that if you do an engine swap & especially if you have to get a mechanic to do the work, whatever you think it will cost double that and that will be what you pay. I really don’t want to pay $30,000 for a new engine & installation. Did you do your own mechanic work? Also how is the engine still running well? Once again I have to say you have a really beautiful car. Cheers
Hello amigo yes I did everything at home but I did my studies in mechanics and I practiced for a few years before leaving to work at the factory ..... no worries with the engine even if today today we will have to restart it and do a major maintenance because my bodybuilder has kept my camaro for almost 4 years.....the mechanics don't like it...but for the Smeding perf quality and for me the best and you know what you are buying with them but it is also difficult to say certain things because I am French and I had the engine come here in France ..... so to get an opinion I had to browse the forums and others and I took the plunge ...... at home there are a lot of books explaining how to do its mechanics yourself,, bought a hoist and some tools took your time and did it yourself .... .do not neglect the transmission the 383 will greatly shake them
@@RemySSpeedshop59 Hello again, Thanks for getting back to me quickly. Just so happens my Trans Am is in the shop, I took it a week ago yesterday an oil leak (that I thought was minor) the check engine light comes on after you drive it about 10 minutes even though the car would still run really well & I told them to do a tuneup. Well the minor oil leak was the oil pan gasket leaking, the rear main seal was leaking, plus the front valve cover was leaking, it will cost me between $3,000 to $3,500. And as of 2 hours they still haven’t got all the parts in, and me & my wife are going on vacation next week. I read somewhere that if you can’t work on your own car you’re at the mercy of other people, I spent the majority of my career 32 years (yes I’m old) working in an office. My dad was a mechanic, but he told me that I didn’t want to get into that type of work. Plus he told me I could learn by watching him, that’s the way he learned, I learn by being shown. He’s been dead 36 years so I am not blaming him for what he didn’t do, I am grown man. The main thing that hinders me is I have nerve damage in my feet & legs, from a botched lower back surgery that I had several years ago, I can still get around well, but lifting is pretty much out of the question. Sorry I don’t mean to whine, it’s the way it is everyone has their problems. You said that your bodybuilder has had your car for 4 years, Is that like a paint & body shop? 4 years, is that normal there in France? I’m sure speaking a different language can be a hindrance for you, and I’m sure the shipping and handling is especially expensive from Texas to France. I look at www.thirdgen.org sometimes and I feel really bad for people living in other countries trying to build their cars. Well I better go , my friend, you are always very helpful, and someday I too may take the plunge and buy a Smeding crate engine, they look more trustworthy than Blueprint or West Coast Customs, who seem to raise their prices every time I look at their website at their 350’s. Well thanks again, you are always very helpful.
indeed complicated the language barrier,,, because I like helping it would be simple to call you and tell you the procedure to follow to install this engine it's funny but we have an almost similar course with the difference that I still have my father and that I am younger than you because I am 38 years old I would like to help you because it is not that complicated if we know certain things here in France I had to manage on my own because the Americans were a niche market not necessarily known and neglected because of a higher fuel consumption than our cars knows our fuel and taxed at 60% by the French state ....... a little more than $2 per liter for a long time .... to come back to Smeding yes they are more serious than the others who do in the show, Smeding and discreet .... indeed it was complicated to import this engine here but I am lucky to having a friend living in Miami who took care of it but sending it still cost $1500 ..... for your car it's not surprising this kind of leak on the rear seal and the rest have broken down sensitive points but there are certain solutions, silicone seal, modifications of the seal in 2 parts with a plate and a conventional spy seal Smeding does this by the way so you no longer have a problem ...... with the third gen forum You will be able to find answers to your questions when you start the project and I will be there if you need me ..... I will soon make a video of the Camaro with its brand new body ... after 15 years of restoration little by little I finally see the end of it
@@RemySSpeedshop59 I’m glad you would be willing to help, but all I know about cars is what I read & having lots of things go wrong with my car (but have to have someone else fix) over the 33 years I’ve owned the car. Yeah I’m old I’ll be 60 in July, physically I feel like I’m about 80, but mentally I sometimes feel like I’m a 20 something year old kid who likes to drive fast & turn the music up loud. Being older has its advantages, I got to see some classic muscle cars when they were new, in the little town I grew up in there was a guy who had a Plymouth Roadrunner only a couple of years old, also someone had a Mustang Mach 1. I got to see a Smokey & the bandit Trans Am brand new on a car showroom floor. I remember my dad had to drag me away from it. I also go to see original 1970’s bands live. I got to see the original Black Sabbath (with Ozzy) in 1978 when I was 15, also Kiss, O.K. I’ll stop lol. I usually just only look at thirdgen.org. I don’t want to seem stupid to some people who know a lot more about cars than I do. I would like to ask you some questions, one thing is I got some aftermarket wheel caps from Hawks motor sports years ago. I can get the back ones to fit, but the fronts won’t stay on I can pull them off with my hand, I have put the car in a few small car shows a few years back, (won a couple of little trophies) I would just stick them on during the show & take them off afterwards. I assume it’s because the years ago the wheel bearings went out (I guess that’s what happened) it slung grease all over my wheel & the shop that fixed it put a big silver caps on it, (I’d just have to show you a picture of it) I’m assuming it doesn’t fit on there well enough because of the caps and I would have to get the thing completely redone, to get it to fit, and I’m sure it would be expensive. It’s aggravating as hell. I did have a friend come over a couple of years ago & help me fix the hatch (had to purchase a refurbished one on eBay) but it fixed it and stopped the drain on my battery that had been going on for years. Also I bought an aftermarket spoiler from Hawks and he helped me do a trial fit & hauled it to the body shop in his truck. He would help me do more things, but he’s doing a project on his house that will take months or longer. Plus he had grandkids, I talk to him on the phone, and he answers some questions. That’s why I appreciate all the help I can get, from other sources.
@tht_zx6r hello Yes of course with pleasure it comes from Hawks third gen but you are going to have a lot of work to make it fit well and look original

Hello, I have spoken to you on here before, I have a 1986 Trans Am, with original 305, and I & I really want a Smeding’s 383. Because of all the crate engines online their shop seems the most reliable, but one of the problems I have is I have little to no mechanical experience, especially doing an engine swap, I also don’t have the tools, engine hoist etc… So
I would have to get a mechanic to do the work.
I will soon make a video of the Camaro with its brand new body ... after 15 years of restoration little by little I finally see the end of it
and no it's not normal that the painting body shop took so long but she got there just before the damn COVID happened.......
Can i ask where you got the spoiler?
@tht_zx6r hello Yes of course with pleasure it comes from Hawks third gen but you are going to have a lot of work to make it fit well and look original
@@RemySSpeedshop59 awesome thank you

No problem with the engine .... I highly recommend this company
Thank you. I am planning on ordering next month and I just read a review from some guy who had problems with his new engines. I’ve searched the internet and literally can’t find anything else bad about them.
I think that the problem must be isolated because they are very well tuned ... The engine works very well and has no problem for 4 years
Any one have an ideo what exaughst hes running

BOGUS Z28….DRUM BRAKES ON THE REAR!… 🤡😂🤣😂🖕🐿️
@Timothy Ward the clown is you my friend it was time to restore the borg Warner 🤣🤣🤣 and to have the parts in France it's something different than at home!!! if you watch my other videos it is installed 😉 and then what if you know the Third gen the z28 not much more even the iroc could have the banal LG4 🤣🤣 .... watch the video carefully if you really know them you will see that all the stupid reinforcements in the engine compartment which are specific are there.... always the criticism before the dialogue
@Timothy Ward just look at the photo of my video when she was on the bridge for the change of the rear wing you will see your disc bridge !!!! ask before criticizing and being clever it took me years to gather the parts for the borg Warner so I had to not drive my car !! I preferred to put a basic 10bolts in the meantime
The drums tell me that hood dont belong
The Borg Warner was under restoration, it is pictured on one of my other videos 😊👌It is rather complicated to have parts of an Australian borg Warner in France 😅😅
yuk drum brakes
Not anymore a borgWarner 9 bolt bridge has taken place and wilwood 4 piston at the front.... This video is a few years old now
