Tawheed is a verb to make something into waheed(one) in religious context it means to single out Allah in His worship and His Names & attributes.
Because in pre-Islamic Arab society they already believed in the Unseen Creator & Ruler of the Universe (Allah) but they worshipped lesser gods and mythological spirits as their intercessors to Allah, the Most High.
The Arabs before islam knew that their fathers Abraham and ishmael (PBUT) left a religion and that is to worship One God (Allah).
Prophet Muhammad was sent primarily to single out Allah alone in His worship…
That worship is solely a right of God and no one else.

Islam believes in ‘Tawheed’ which is not merely monotheism i.e. belief in one God, but much more. Tawheed literally means ‘unification’ i.e. ‘asserting oneness’ and is derived from the Arabic verb ‘Wahhada’ which means to unite, unify or consolidate.
Tawheed can be divided into three categories.
    1. Tawheed ar-Ruboobeeyah
    2. Tawheed al-Asmaa-was-Sifaat
    3. Tawheed al-Ibaadah.
    1. Tawheed ar-Ruboobeeyah (maintaining the unity of Lordship)
The first category is ‘Tawheed ar-Ruboobeeyah’. ‘Ruboobeeyah’ is derived from the root verb “Rabb” meaning Lord, Sustainer and Cherisher.
Therefore ‘Tawheed-ar-Ruboobeeyah’ means maintaining the unity of Lordship. This category is based on the fundamental concept that Allah (swt) alone caused all things to exist when there was nothing. He created or originated all that exists out of nothing. He alone is the sole Creator, Cherisher, and Sustainer of the complete universe and all between it, without any need from it or for it.
    2. Tawheed al-Asmaa was-Sifaat (maintaining the unity of Allah’s name and attributes):
The second category is ‘Tawheed al Asmaa was Sifaat’ which means maintaining the unity of Allah’s name and attributes. This category is divided into five aspects:
(2.1) Allah should be referred to as described by Him and His Prophet
Allah must be referred to according to the manner in which He and His prophet have described Him without explaining His names and attributes by giving them meanings other than their obvious meanings.
(2.2) Allah must be referred to as He has referred to Himself
Allah must be referred to without giving Him any new names or attributes. For example Allah may not be given the name Al-Ghaadib (the Angry One), despite the fact that He has said that He gets angry, because neither Allah nor His messenger have used this name.
(2.3) Allah is referred to without giving Him the attributes of His creation
In a reference to God, we should strictly abstain from giving Him the attributes of those whom He has created. For instance in the Bible, God is portrayed as repenting for His bad thoughts in the same way as humans do when they realize their errors. This is completely against the principle of Tawheed. God does not commit any mistakes or errors and therefore never needs to repent.
The key principle when dealing with Allah’s attributes is given in the Qur’an in Surah Ash Shur
“There is nothing Whatever like unto Him, And He is the One That hears and sees (all things).”
    [Al-Qur’an 42:11]
Hearing and seeing are human faculties. However, when attributed to the Divine Being they are without comparison, in their perfection, unlike when associated with humans who require ears, eyes, etc. and who are limited in their sight and hearing in terms of space, time, capacity, etc.
(2.4) God’s creation should not be given any of His attributes
To refer to a human with the attribute of God is also against the principle of Tawheed. For example, referring to a person as one who has no beginning or end (eternal).
(2.5) Allah’s name cannot be given to His creatures
Some Divine names in the indefinite form, like ‘Raoof’ or ‘Raheem’ are permissible names for men as Allah has used them for Prophets; but ‘Ar-Raoof’ (the Most Pious) and Ar-Raheem (the most Merciful) can only be used if prefixed by ‘Abd’ meaning ‘slave of’ or ‘servant of’ i.e. ’Abdur-Raoof’ or ‘Abdur-Raheem’. Similarly ‘Abdur-Rasool’ (slave of the Messenger) or ‘Abdun-Nabee’ (slave of the Prophet) are forbidden.
    3. Tawheed al-Ibaadah (maintaining the unity of worship):
(3.1) Definition and meaning of ‘Ibadaah’:
‘Tawheed al-Ibaadah’ means maintaining the unity of worship or ‘Ibaadah’. Ibaadah is derived from Arabic word ‘Abd’ meaning slave or servant. Thus Ibaadah means servitude and worship.
(3.2) All three categories to be followed simultaneously.
Only believing in the first two categories of Tawheed without implementing Tawheed-al-Ibaadah is useless. The Qur’an gives the examples of ‘Mushrikeens’ (idolaters) of the Prophet’s time who confirmed the first two aspects of Tawheed. It is mentioned in the Qur’an:
“Say: ‘Who is it that Sustains you (in life) From the sky and from the earth? Or who is it that Has power over hearing And sight? And who Is it that brings out The living from the dead And the dead from the living? And who is it that Rules and regulates all affairs?’ They will soon say, ‘Allah’. Say, ‘Will you not then Show piety (to Him)?’ “
    [Al-Qur’an 10:31]
A similar example is repeated in Surah Zukhruf of the Glorious Qur’an:
“If thou ask them, Who Created them, they will Certainly say, ‘Allah’: how Then are they deluded Away (from the Truth)?”
    [Al-Qur’an 43:87]
The pagan Meccans knew that Allah (swt) was their Creator, Sustainer, Lord and Master. Yet they were not Muslims because they also worshipped other gods besides Allah. Allah (swt) categorised them as ‘Kuffaar’ (disbelievers) and ‘Mushrikeen’ (idol worshippers and those who associate partners with God).
“And most of them Believe not in Allah Without associating (others As partners) with Him!”
    [Al-Qur’an 12:106]
Thus ‘Tawheed al-Ibaadah’ i.e. maintaining the unity of worship is the most important aspect of Tawheed. Allah (swt) alone deserves worship and He alone can grant benefit to man for his worship.

Trinitarian tawheed that you are talking about is a *Bidah* which was not taught by the salaf this idea came centuries after the salaf, every knowledge that pertain to Allah is known as tawheed and it means the uniqueness of Allah i.e oneness and doesn't need to be explained in multiple tawheeds.

We also find these verses :

And in another verse we find the same :
“ The true religion with Allah is Islam . “
      3: 17 .
We also find His name is Al Mu’min . Means He is the infuser of faith .

    Concept of God in Islam
one God, is the most important and foundational concept in Islam. Muslims believe in one God who created the universe and has power over everything within it. He is unique and exalted above everything He creates, and His greatness cannot be compared to His creation. Furthermore, He is the only one deserving of any worship and the ultimate purpose of all creation is to submit to Him. The Islamic understanding of God is distinct from all other religions and beliefs in various respects since it is based on a pure and clear understanding of monotheism. This essentially captures the concept of God in Islam, which will be further elaborated in this pamphlet.
Muslims often refer to God as Allah. This is a universal name for God and does not refer to an exclusively ‘Islamic’ God. Interestingly, this name is related to the Aramaic and Hebrew names for God, Allaha and Elohim. Therefore, Allah is simply the Arabic name for God which affirms that He is One singular God with no partners or equals. The name Allah cannot be pluralized or limited to a specific gender, which establishes that God is One and that He is unique from everything He creates. Muslims continue to use this original Arabic name for God (Allah) since it perfectly expresses His unique qualities.
God is the Creator and the Sustainer of the universe who created everything for a reason. Muslims believe that He created humankind with a simple purpose - to worship Him. He sent messengers to guide people in fulfilling this purpose. Some of these messengers include Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad, peace be upon all of them. They all taught a consistent message about God by affirming His greatness as the Creator and guiding people to worship Him alone. This basic concept has always resonated with people’s natural understanding of God.
When the final prophet, Muhammad, peace be upon him (pbuh), was asked about God, the answer came directly from God in the holy book of Muslims, the Quran (also spelled ‘Koran’): “Say, ‘He is God the One, God the eternal. He begot no one nor was He begotten. No one is comparable to Him.’” [112:1-4] This is a clear statement by God describing Himself to humanity without any room for confusion. God is One and is exalted above everything He creates and He is capable over all things.
Fully accepting the oneness of God is to accept that He is distinct from everything else. It would not suit God’s majesty and glory to associate the limited attributes of His creation to Him because He is not restricted in any way, while His creation is. He is the First with no beginning and the Last with no end. Everything in the universe was created by His will. He is not confined by space or time and He is the only One who is in control and provides for His creation.
“He is God: there is no god other than Him. It is He who knows what is hidden as well as what is in the open, He is the Lord of Mercy, the Giver of Mercy. He is God: there is no god other than Him, the Controller, the Holy One, Source of Peace, Granter of Security, Guardian over all, the Almighty, the Compeller, the Truly Great; God is far above anything they consider to be His partner. He is God: the Creator, the Originator, the Shaper. The best names belong to Him. Everything in the heavens and earth glorifies Him: He is the Almighty, the Wise.” [Quran, 59:22-24]
Why did God create people whom He already knew would reject Him and go to hell? Shouldn’t God who is All Loving instead not create them so that they won’t go through punishment? These are some common questions connected to this topic. Answered by Nouman Ali Khan
    Pure Monotheism
“God: there is no god but Him, the Ever Living, the Ever Watchful. Neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him. All that is in the heavens and in the earth belongs to Him. Who is there that can intercede with Him except by His leave? He knows what is before them and what is behind them, but they do not comprehend any of His knowledge except what He wills. His throne extends over the heavens and the earth; it does not weary Him to preserve them both. He is the Most High, the Tremendous.” [Quran, 2:255]
The primary pillar of Islamic belief clearly states that there is nothing worthy of worship except God. Associating partners with God or attributing qualities of lesser beings to Him is considered to be the greatest sin in Islam.
In the past, this often took the form of idol worship or praying to multiple lesser gods. Although this is less common now, the current era has replaced many of the physical ‘idols’ of the past with other contemporary ‘gods.’ Many people today allow passions like entertainment, drugs, relationships or material objects to become the center of their lives. They become so consumed with these things that they submit to whatever will allow them to fulfill their desires. For example, if a drug addict allows their addiction to control their actions, beliefs, feelings, and behaviors, causing them to risk their personal safety and the safety of others, that drug has essentially become their god. Likewise, if another person puts a loved one before God by obeying that person even if that causes them to transgress against God’s commands, their loved one has taken precedence over God.
Islam teaches that people should completely submit only to God as He is the only One worthy of their worship. He is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe and everything in it belongs to Him. The Quran points out the faulty thinking of those who worship other than God:
“‘How can you worship things you carve with your own hands, when it is God who has created you and all your handiwork?’” [37:95-96]

Say: O People of the Scripture. Come to an agreement between us and you: that we shall worship none but Allah, and that we shall ascribe no partners unto Him, and that none of us shall take others for lords beside Allah. And if they turn away, then say: Bear witness that we are they who have surrendered (unto Him) . The Holy Quran .. Isn't it the summit of dignity and freedom .. ✍️

    As salam alaykoum,
    I have two remarks :
1/ If the word "al tawhid" is not present in the Quran, Allah clearly forbid his antonym, which is "al shirk". An antonym is the opposite of a word, like death is the antonym of life. So, for example, if I have to announce to somebody that someone is dead, I can say : "John is dead" or I can negate his antonym by saying : "John is not alive". It is the same thing we find in the Quran. Allah said :
"And [mention, O Muhammad], when Luqman said to his son while he was instructing him, "O my son, do not associate [anything] with Allah. Indeed, association (al shirk) [with him] is great injustice.".
Allah also said : "They have certainly disbelieved who say, "Allah is the Messiah, the son of Mary" while the Messiah has said, "O Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord." Indeed, he who associates ("yushrik" in arabic, verbal form of the word "al shirk") others with Allah - Allah has forbidden him Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And there are not for the wrongdoers any helpers."
2/ About Intercession, there is a clear narration in Sahih al Bukhary which says that after prophet passed away, the compagnons didn't ask to his dead body, rather they ask to a pious alive man to invoke Allah :
    Anas ibn Malik said :
Whenever drought threatened them, `Umar bin Al-Khattab, used to ask Al-Abbas bin `Abdul Muttalib to invoke Allah for rain. He used to say, "O Allah! We used to ask our Prophet to invoke You for rain, and You would bless us with rain, and now we ask his uncle to invoke You for rain. O Allah ! Bless us with rain."(1) And so it would rain.
    Sahih al bukhary, hadith n°1010.
    Allahu a'lam.

While watching this video, we have noted some points, and will briefly discuss below:
We agree with Shaykh Hasan Somali that in practice, Paulines do not stick to Touheed but these Paulines and Hindus are like pre-Quranic Arab Pagans (Mushrikeen) who used to do their own brand of Hajj and used to pray their own brand of Rituals, and they also used to believe in Allah Azza wa Jal but problem was: they used to have many other gods too. This is why Glorious Quran call them Mushriks. Who commits Shirk is called Mushrik, and in Quran, Shirk is even bigger sin than Kufar 4:48. *This is why: In Quran 5:72, Hell is guaranteed for those people who say that Jesus is god.*

Don't you see that all the greatest muslim scholars you invited are defending intercession and those few ridiculous preachers are against. Why? Why it is always the preachers who are against and the great scholars who studied with the great scholars that are defending it? Why In the last 1000 years 99% of the Islamic scholars were defending intercession? Why don't you go further and ask him the truth: According to the salafi school, 99% of the Scholars of the last millennia were polytheist! This is known Paul! There is no one who denies that nobody in the last millennia denied intercession except Ibn Taymiya and the proof is that "Nobody except him and his student Ibn Al Qayyim" ever wrote to protest against it. Why? Why if it was true that the Islamic world was filled with polytheism not a single scholars ever wrote against it except the 2 mentioned before who didn't even had an impact on the scholars of their time. Common! I can't believe you are following this new cheap mainstream sect that appeared 200 years ago in Saudi!
Last thing....Tell us Paul, if what this man and the salafi school is saying is true, what is the judgment in the Islamic law of the majority of Islamic scholars of history and by extension and the majority of Muslims who follow them: They are polytheist that had to be executed for their belief! Swallow the pill Paul and don't turn around. If what they're saying is true, then all the scholars of the oldest Islamic universities in the world, Al Azhar in Egypt, Qarawiyin in Morocco, Madrassas of Constantinople, the great mosque of Damascus should be executed for their belief in a salafi state! I am writing fro Fez which host the oldest Islamic university in the world. According to this man, all the greatest scholars who sat at this university in the last millennia should have been executed and will burn in Hell forever! What of kind sect is this? And they spread all around with the money of Saudi Oil. Common! You're not serious believing in this Paul! I can't believe!
Is it a coincidence if all terrorist groups are from the salafi schools and non of them are from traditional sunni schools? We Muslim don't believe in coincidence so let's understand that something is going wrong.... Traditional scholars know but it seem you don want to listen them...

Don’t backbite or hurt another creation of ALLAH (SWT) either it is an animal or a human either muslim or non Muslim because you will be held accountable for what you have done wrong to another person and ALLAH (SWT) will not forgive you until the person that you have hurt or backbite forgive you. And the person that you backbite on the day of judgement will take your good deeds and give their bad deeds to you but If the person you asked forgiveness don’t forgive you that you have backbite, then talk good of them in public or alone and ask ALLAH (SWT) to forgive them because that way ALLAH (SWT) will not make that person who you have backbite take your good deeds and give their bad deeds to you and ALLAH (SWT) will give good deed to that person without taking your good deeds. Remember also to never expose your sins out of happiness and boasting about it because ALLAH (SWT) will not forgive those that exposed their sins when ALLAH (SWT) hid the sins from others even, if it is exposed.

Paul, may I request that you look into the Muslim vs Muhammadan terms.
I'm aware it comes from orientalist thinking background, they understood Muslim's in relevant to their mindset.
In modern times, it is being pushed in India by the Hindu extremists organisations, such as RRS, among others across India. It is designed to dilute Muslim identity.
Even Indian Muslim's are beginning to accept it, or do not take offence from it's usage. I find it a highly offensive term.
I think your scholarly approach will bring out a beautiful discussion on the topic. Either your own research based video, or a discussion with a Islamic scholar, or ideally both will bring greater understanding on the topic, and greater reach.
    Thank you.

Your definition of dead is questionable. An ordinary Muslim buried in the grave hears the Salaam of visitors and their footsteps.

It doesn't matter what they hear. There are actually two opinions to this and regardless of the one you follow, it is not permissible to start having a conversation with them or to call upon them.

@@aaliyah3037 that's a deviation from the opinion is the majority of Scholars who say tawassul and istighatha are permissible. Ahle Sunnah wal jamaah have always defended the permissibility. What would be shirk would be to get surgery or take prescription medicine thinking that it will help you. Only Allah helps you and cures you and benefits you. However taking the means whether medicine or tawassul is permissible if you understand that the benefit is only from ALLAH alone.
      That's the understanding.
Innovated groups with new modernist claims are very dangerous because they can easily get proud and aggressive for example of they become extremist and frankly melodramatic making the issue is tawassul and istighatha about tawheed they are directly accusing the majority of scholars of ahle Sunnah wal jamaah over 1400 years of not having or not understanding tawheed.
While this might be a popular and attractive outlook to intellectually lazy and surprisedly arrogant people, it's unorthodox. This najdi dawah is a strange, modernist movement.

@@Dylan-ge6dn Straw man. No one made this argument and how typical of you ahlul bidah to conflate to seperate matters. Yes tawassul is from the Qur'an and sunnah but not the way sufis, shias and other deviants groups understand it. It is already known to the Muslims that it is permissible to ask others to make dua for you or for help so long as they are alive, in your presence and you ask of them that which is in their capability.

@@aaliyah3037 alhamdulillah. You have named me from ahle biddah. Thank you for your hasanat, I only hope you didn't mean the dhahir of what you said because that would be kufr. Rasulullah ﷺ said in paraphrasing meaning to translate in English to accuse a Muslim of disbelief the actual disbeliever is the accuser.
Secondly, your anger is misdirected because it isn't me who related tawassul with medicine rather they are dealt with under the same chapter in Sahih Bukhari - now you know.
Better to study and learn patience and good character. What you do now will not help u in the afterlife. Remember your master told you ﷺ no one goes astray after misguidance except by argumentation.
      Peace

@@Dylan-ge6dn I never accused you of disbelief. I am simply saying that this lining of argument typically comes form ahlul bidah. Similarly, you have also labelled the "najd" dawah a bidah.
And don't misrepresent Al-Bukhari's commentary. You are conveniently conflating the sufi understanding of tawassul using this example while Mohamed bin Ismail Rahimullah is simply explaining the permissibility of taking the means and that you should believe only Allah has the power to benefit or harm and not the means itself.

I've noticed that a lot of people who use the word "taqiyya" without understanding its meaning on social media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, and, yes, RUclips. Would you please explain to them what it means, in a future video, of course? There are Muslims who are quietly religious and live their religion through helping their neighbors, teaching their children empathy, etc.

I think tawheed word doesn't appear in quran. It doesn't matter. It is academic term to name a long explanation. To make scholars easier to tech the students

Your guest is misrepresenting the Shia view on Tawassul. I would highly recommend that you read Sahifa Sajjadiya, a collection of duas from the 4th Shia Imam Ali bin Hussain (a.s) , this work has been translated into English by Prof William Chittick. Let the work speak for itself as to how the Imams of the Ahl Bayt said/taught supplications to Allah.

In this age in which science and learning has raised serious doubts about the fundamental principles of Islam Tawheed should be explained in the style of Risale-i Nur. It’s available in English translation. Otherwise we’re not doing justice to the topic.
