    Beware on Arch install that it will partition you root drive at about 20GB. Once you install a DE, Libre Office and some other bits and pieces that will be nearly full.
    Also I always install network manager to give me an easy life.

      Been using Arch for five years or so and have only had two issues with my WiFi after an update which were simply solved by reinstalling the driver. However I have Arch on two separate disks with my files on another. So if anything happens to one Arch install I always have the other while I fix the problem/reinstall the broken one .. I actually quite like to make a complete reinstall every year or so anyway to freshen up things. I have had more trouble with other 'user-friendly' Linux distros than I have yet experienced with Arch. It's the top Linux distro for me!

    Interesting. I does work, but as you eluded to, it is more of a 'bare metal' installer. You'd have to know what you want, and what it's called to go with your install. When it prompted me for additional packages, it got grumpy for things like openssh-server and the like, complaining it couldn't find them. It'll take some research to expand my knowledge base. I really like the ability to select specific servers in Debian's bare metal install...

  • @nymnicholas
    @nymnicholas 2 года назад +1

    This is a good start. But there are much more post install matters to do. I do keep a long list of extra package list I need after the base is install (i3gaps WM) like mlocate, pluma, caja, tmux, etc. And of course, you must have "ILoveCandy", right? Tune parallel downloads to 4. But if you do enough research, it will be stable. Peace :-)

    What I would like to see is this script installing to a partition without erasing the disk for multi-boot. It doesn't need to do the partitioning, that could be done before the install with g-parted or something. Everyone always shows installing to a VM but in real life I want Arch on a ssd's partition.

      I just tried few days ago use archinstall to install Arch beside Windows 10, so dualboot. Couldn't do it, there were some errors which I didn't understand and installer couldn't continue. Tried EndevourOS GUI installer, it complained too but advised what to do. Apparently I didn't have EFI partion mount point set correctly, or at all.

    Is arch install completely broken still like it has been for months without them having any interest what so ever in fixing it? Could you please stop installing into virtual machines and instead do a real hardware install. Before showing videos of how to use a broke system. Where the developer of the script has the aditude that all he needs is a "kernel and an editor" his quote guess no operating system needed. They have this antisocial and anti helpful mindset and as I said have refused to fix it. So please grab a laptop and do a real install to make sure it works. Also don't get me started on how they have made choices to misconfigure it. While claiming they are not configing anything. Firefox being one of them.

      Issue 1305 that I found back in June is still present. Though they closed it a couple of days ago. It was claimed fixed many times. Also I tried cloning the current to find it itself can't be setup because of other breaks. However when I final got it working it was still broken as in it didn't display the options for ever sections. It only showed 1 and you have to blind scroll. Then when it finally did start the installer it claimed to be formatting my boot partition meaning wiping out my windows and 8 linux boots. But it actually appears it didn't. So this is still super broken and exactly how it probably has been since day one.
