They had to make it for gameplay clarity. Udyr's E is now recognised by him having huge tusks on his shoulders. If you just have a bear mantle or something on this skin people are going to be looking at Udyr charging at them and thinking "what ability is that?"
I love the fact the turtle is still used as his W, and with the colors, it makes the spirit guard skin worth it. Also, the Marilyn Monroe emote is so sick. Loving this! 💪

He's got all old stances on Spirit Guard, just different Tiger and Bear are swapped in colors now though. Bear is a type of Bear Ram hybrid as well, prolly a Freljordian type beast.

I LOVE what they did with this skin, and i know it’s pre-release and i don’t wanna knit pick, but i wish they added back the special particles when he kills jungle camps or champions. They were there before, so they should be here with this updated version.
I miss how the original version's final forms had skin texture integration. Phoenix had feathered shoulders, turtle had leathered skin, tiger had stripes with an appropriate orange tinge (I'm not a fan of those corny tribal style tattoos), and bear form... well it was always about the hair for bear form. So 1/4 - stay in bear form, play as a Super Saiyan.
I miss the old Bear taunt "I love Honey, hahaha". Kind of wish they could swap the colors for Tiger and Bear as well - to make them look how they used to look.
as someone who owns a spirit guard udyr the effects looks good this is clearly a great upgrade for his skill effects and animation. However for me some of emotes and taunt is kind of lacking. The max levels effects are good but I wanted his body to have more changes like in some skins and the older version of the spirit guard ( scales.fur etc)
I think it makes more sense now that he changes his energy instead of having different physical attributes considering how often you change form in game

Exactly, the thrust he does with Tiger Stance kinda put me off, the good ol' left and right hits would've been good, but sadly there are not enough animations for his Q, especially when this is considered as an ultimate skin. This shit needs to feel perfect, and look perfect. 💯💯

I'm not sure if they're keeping Spirit Guard the lore skin it currently is, where it's Udyr's most recent self (post-training with Lee Sin), but if it is, this new one fits it so perfectly. He's become so well-versed in channeling the spirits that, unlike his base skin (where only his arms look like the spirits), he can almost become the spirits entirely, with even his head becoming like them.
I kinda wanted udyr to have that spirit infused in his body model when skills are maxed like the old one. The new one looks fine. But the old one was just power and presence epic with balance. New one seems too flashy for me, But it makes more sense with the name spirit guard and the new kit.
the new basic model is so crisp but like you said since that was the big idea on the previous one and the reason i had bought it he should be evolving to become the creatures he controls. I guess it was too much work for them so they put some ugly flashy looking particles on him and got it done. The only evolved stance that looked good was tiger.
Absolutely love it! I think there should be a glow effect when he runs like leaving a energy footprint for a few seconds like Zombie Brand. I figure that really make the skin pop.
Pretty sure this was the skin every Udyr main was worried about. But i think Riot did a good job, gonna be kinda weird seeing Blue stance as tiger and Orange as bear now But, other then that, the stances look beautiful, ESPECIALLY the upgraded versions pretty solid skin, and very cool interaction where the dance and taunt change on what stance you are using, very excited to use it

Wow, there's a lot to unpack with this skin and it's so incredible to see they're keeping the original spirit of Udyr alive through this skin. Through it's ultimate status, they keep that legacy and amp up it's fx and flash tenfold. Also gotta love the different dances and laugh animations along with their awakenings. Honestly, Riot really knocked it out of the park with this one, now the skin finally has proper value.

First, what u talking about is his attack animation in the non-stance form, which you will be in for the first 5 seconds of the game. Second, base Udyr and this skin has 5 forms (include non-stance) and 5 different attack animations.
And even with the final form the bear stance doesnt change his arms like the others but ooooh the base skin does it (I hope they make his arms change because it looks so boring with just the golden things in his shoulders)
Amazing skin but still has some problems. I don't get why they didn't switch the colors for Tiger and Bear. Bear should be blue, and Tiger should be orange. They did it with Dragon Oracle, not sure what stopped them with the Ultimate skin. Also seems weird how they kept the horns for E, when they've already proven that they can change the entire spirit model with how iron boar was changed to a turtle model. Also idk if it's just me but i'm not feeling the Voice lines, VA sounds weird to me. also no nurf.
only issue i had is that the transformation in the old udyr was acutally cool when he goes full blue and looks wild when you max e and his long thunder claws when u max q

As someone who grew up watching Dragon Ball, my love for transformations never went away as I grew older. This skin really tickles my fancy. I especially love the Turtle one.
the only thing im missing, is the hair change. in the old spirit guard they reflected the personality of the stance in the hair. here comes the model change sadly just with the maxed spell
The only gripe I have with this skin are the splash arts. The old ones weren't great, merely serviceable, but these ones' composition is incredibly weak for an ultimate skin. You want old made new being better? Some of Caitlyn's 975 RP skins have stronger compositions than this, come on, Udyr players deserve better (am not one myself, but I do think this is below what they should receive).

The only one that i don't like the other skins has the animation of changing their body textures unlike this skin it's just aura and just animations i think it deserves more because it is an ultimate skin this can be just legendary.
I love that Spirit Guard essentially gets to be a "Traditional" Udyr, with his stances being kept the same as old Udyr.
How else would they protect the spirit of that which is (was) the real Udyr?

I am ALWAYS down for a higher variety of attack animations. Especially on a champ that exclusively auto attacks.

I'm not sure if they're keeping Spirit Guard the lore skin it currently is, where it's Udyr's most recent self (post-training with Lee Sin), but if it is, this new one fits it so perfectly. He's become so well-versed in channeling the spirits that, unlike his base skin (where only his arms look like the spirits), he can almost become the spirits entirely, with even his head becoming like them.
The old animals don't really fit the lore as the new ones. I think it is no longer cannon
I think it's still the same in that it's an alternate time where he remained in Ionia and fully mastered this training there

I kinda wanted udyr to have that spirit infused in his body model when skills are maxed like the old one. The new one looks fine. But the old one was just power and presence epic with balance. New one seems too flashy for me, But it makes more sense with the name spirit guard and the new kit.
the new basic model is so crisp but like you said since that was the big idea on the previous one and the reason i had bought it he should be evolving to become the creatures he controls. I guess it was too much work for them so they put some ugly flashy looking particles on him and got it done. The only evolved stance that looked good was tiger.
Absolutely love it! I think there should be a glow effect when he runs like leaving a energy footprint for a few seconds like Zombie Brand.
I figure that really make the skin pop.
Pretty sure this was the skin every Udyr main was worried about. But i think Riot did a good job, gonna be kinda weird seeing Blue stance as tiger and Orange as bear now But, other then that, the stances look beautiful, ESPECIALLY the upgraded versions pretty solid skin, and very cool interaction where the dance and taunt change on what stance you are using, very excited to use it
We can still ask riot to switch it back to tiger yellow and bear blue in the feedback

Wow, there's a lot to unpack with this skin and it's so incredible to see they're keeping the original spirit of Udyr alive through this skin. Through it's ultimate status, they keep that legacy and amp up it's fx and flash tenfold. Also gotta love the different dances and laugh animations along with their awakenings. Honestly, Riot really knocked it out of the park with this one, now the skin finally has proper value.
All the spirits dance differently. They are pretty nice to switched between and watch, especially with all the steps being homage to the disco era
his E (Bear Stance) should have some armor or something around the arm too, it's a little lackluster when he only has 2 horns on his shoulder.
Its an ultimate skin and they give him 1 animation for basic attack :D

If you're seeing that animation you're doing something wrong.
First, what u talking about is his attack animation in the non-stance form, which you will be in for the first 5 seconds of the game.
Second, base Udyr and this skin has 5 forms (include non-stance) and 5 different attack animations.

And even with the final form the bear stance doesnt change his arms like the others but ooooh the base skin does it (I hope they make his arms change because it looks so boring with just the golden things in his shoulders)
before the rework i always loved the champ, and this rework its literally the best rework by far in my opinion
It's a bit sad that only the hair changes when you max out a specific stance. The old one transforms his body too
Amazing skin but still has some problems. I don't get why they didn't switch the colors for Tiger and Bear. Bear should be blue, and Tiger should be orange. They did it with Dragon Oracle, not sure what stopped them with the Ultimate skin. Also seems weird how they kept the horns for E, when they've already proven that they can change the entire spirit model with how iron boar was changed to a turtle model. Also idk if it's just me but i'm not feeling the Voice lines, VA sounds weird to me.

Tiger stance should be Yellow or Orange and Bear stance should be Blue, they must change the colours
only issue i had is that the transformation in the old udyr was acutally cool when he goes full blue and looks wild when you max e and his long thunder claws when u max q
I m sure they went all out while developing this reworked ultimate skin, but do to memory, they had to cut back some stuff

as someone else pointed out i also kinda miss his actual skin getting scales or something for example, but other than that this is pretty good, tho i personally would have liked to see the other spirits more than the old ones
this skin is fuckin sick, one of my main concerns about the Udyr rework was how this skin was gonna turn out, absolutly adore the reworked skin :3
the maxed stances ...makes of him a god in each stance ... i was concerned as well ... even tho those horns on bear stance ... dont like that much .. but tiger and phoenix are incredible.
I remember getting this skin years ago out of a chest MULTIPLE times. Glad I finally have a reason to use it.

This is really cool, the specialized dances and great enhanced effects really help the skin stand out from other Ultimate skin

As someone who grew up watching Dragon Ball, my love for transformations never went away as I grew older. This skin really tickles my fancy. I especially love the Turtle one.

in the old spirit guard they reflected the personality of the stance in the hair. here comes the model change sadly just with the maxed spell
The only gripe I have with this skin are the splash arts. The old ones weren't great, merely serviceable, but these ones' composition is incredibly weak for an ultimate skin. You want old made new being better? Some of Caitlyn's 975 RP skins have stronger compositions than this, come on, Udyr players deserve better (am not one myself, but I do think this is below what they should receive).

@@FrostEncounter he's talking about compositions, not animation and extra effects. Anyway yeah, I did feel like his ultimate skin splash art kinda lacked in something, and composition is definitely one of them. Yeah, it does look pretty cool but it just didn't feel right.

by far one of the coolest skins riot has ever done
The only one that i don't like the other skins has the animation of changing their body textures unlike this skin it's just aura and just animations i think it deserves more because it is an ultimate skin this can be just legendary.
I love that they kept the original colors of the stances from the old Dyr.
So glad they kept the four original stances for this skin.
