One thing I did different is that my filter sock is my first stage of mechanical filtration and it made cleaning way easier since all my other sponges stay cleaner for a longer period.
I like the idea of the filter setup but why not get a different plant to go in it that's not so big & easier to manage ? I'd put like some floating plant's or some other type plant's that would help filter the water or no plant's & cover it.
Hey there Zenzo! Nice filter setup👍 I wanted to say thank you for the brief handshake at Aquashella this Saturday! It was awesome to see you and Dean working the booth and representing the brand all the way out here in Texas. Thanks again for the free T-shirts🤘Best of luck to you all on Sunday and for your journey’s back home:)
Thanks for sharing. Excellent video. I made a smaller version of this using a rectangle planter box for my aquarium. I however used an internal canister as the pump with a coarse sponge to act as prefilter and then at the inflow of the filter I put a container with a medium & fine sponge for mechanical filtration & polishing which then takes it down to the bottom of the planter below the bio media which has a grating under it. It then flows bottom up through the bio media and plant roots & then overflows out through 2 overflow pipes back into the tank. This way it is easier to maintain as I only need to remove the sponges & clean them and if any fine particles do find their way through the sponges, it drops down to the bottom of the filter by gravity as the water flows up through the bio media.
Timely, I was just covered in filter gunk due to an unexpected canister swap this morning, being able to imagine the feeling accurately made this video extra immersive 🤣🤣🤣
Hi Taz, saw the filter sock. Just cross a board across the pond however wide needed and make a hole for the sock collar and run the out take hose into it with a strainer attached to it so not to force the water to harshly through it. Hope that idea helps and like your videos too! Oh and try the bog style filter method since you have everything there just run water bottom up.
Nice set up brother...Totally didn't realize I met you at Aquashella Dallas..I knew you looked familiar but didn't know where I knew you from haha..Keep Crushing It!! STAY HUMBLE STAY HUNGRY STAY FOCUSED ~The Jarhead Entrepreneur
Any thoughts about using some coarse filter pads either inside the basket around the perforated pipe or on the outside of the basket? Enjoyed the video!
In regards to the filter socks, I suggest just buying a smaller storage plastic container. Do two holes/one hole. Let the primary outflow, flow directly into this box. Then have a centre overflow with your old leaky bulkhead (just make sure it is above the water), that is a overflow. That way, you can have an easier time swapping out the filters. You already have a 2x6(?) laying there that you can anchor the set-up to.
Hey Zenzo! Another interesting and entertaining video! Quick question: what local aquarium store do you recommend? I live in the Bay Area and there’s not many local places to check out. I rather see the fish in person rather than buying online. Any suggestions?
You should sell these. I’ve never seen a biological filter like this. Yes you can call it a filter mine cost 300 and it doesn’t have a plant it has a sponge and plastic “bio filter” material and carbon filters. But this is a true bio filter true aquaponics. I’ve watched hours of videos of other designs but yours though could probably expand if someone wanted more plants etc
2mm of loss per day??? How is that a leak? My setup in FL lost tons more than that each day due to evaporation from the water and evapotranspiration from the plants! But still a nice setup
Did not see anything about which way the water flows thru what kind of substrate you are using for biological or Anoxic(?) - whatever filtration is happening.. Aerobic, am assuming.
@@TazawaTanks I live in Modesto so it hits triple digits just was wondering if I could possibly make a pond but I wouldn’t wanna boil my fish because of the weather

my fave part of the video, was how much you dreaded getting "yucky", lol Beautiful fish, I'm sure they appreciate the new filter. Be well
I built something similar for my 75 gallon oscar tank filter/refugium using pothos and those things have gotten my tank looking 100%

@@raisinggoldfishonabudget7058 I’m pretty sure it’s because the bigger the plant the more nitrate control you can have

I used to do the bottom up method earlier versions of this filter, but it got difficult to service.
I really enjoy DIY stuff. I use Diy filters, pump inside of tank, trash can on top. So Easy to clean
Excellent video as always. Your pond is beautiful.
The thing all videos are missing are those little details you chose to time lapse. People dont know what or where or why you're drilling things.
Thanks for sharing. Gives me ideas for the future when I do my first pond.
That was pretty cool bro

I’ve done that before (with the old filter). They end up getting clogged quickly and are difficult to clean.

Hey zenzo,
I recently started working out, I’m really enjoying it and I was wondering if you still have your workout channel?
I haven’t made a video in a couple of years, but the channel is still up. “Life of Zenzo”

Nice hat, Braddah
you should make a smaller filter box just for polishing the water right under the output
Looks nice
Yay classic hdx tote I have a couple of those too! Woo
Great video

Is the aquarium co-op aquarium light coming out soon? I am in the market.
Soon-ish. 😁
What is that pant that you are trimming is it horse tail?
thanks for sharing
will you be raising tilapia to eat, to save money on fish and will you be doing aquaponics?
Not in this system. Maybe one day if we move to Hawaii and can have a larger system.
I know it’s an old video, but what is the plant used in the filter?
I don't know the name, but it's a landscaping plant that I bought from Home Depot.
Awesome
I spoted a Sypderco 🤩
What substate did you use to plant the plant in? thanks
I forgot the name/brand, but it is an aquaponics substrate (reddish clay balls). They are very lightweight. Sometimes they even can float.
@@TazawaTanks thank you!

Hahaha! When I took the old filter down, I actually found two small holes (made mistakenly by me) that was the cause for the leaks.
Add smaller rocks to filter
Thumbs up

RUclips brought your vid to me from a Dr Novak video on anoxic.. So, was curious on your filter methods... Cheers!
Nice hair!!!!
How do you control temperature for the pond like in summertime
Summers in San Francisco very rarely gets the water temperature over 65-70 degrees.

@@joshuabrown847 if it is dug into the ground and at least 2’ deep (and in shade), it would most likely be just fine.
