- Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777-200 flight experience from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Istanbul (IST).
It was a red-eye flight departing Kuala Lumpur at 12.48am. It was not a full flight, so I could stretch across my row to sleep later during the flight. Meals served were generous and had exceptional taste and with a Malaysian flavour. Cabin crew onboard were very professional and service was excellent. Though the entertainment system was rather ancient, and the screen was smallish, I nevertheless could enjoy my movies.
After 10 hours and 49 minutes, we landed in Istanbul at 5.37am after an excellent flight with Malaysian hospitality.

if you realize, at 2:29 the leading steward said "..Malaysia Airlines Captain Wan Amran Wan Hussien". Wan Amran was the captain operating the fateful MH17 which was shot down in Ukraine . Rest in Peace, Captain

My uncle's friends were onboard. Now, with all hope shot down as Najib announced that the plane crashed into the South Indian Ocean, we stay still - shocked, solemn.
As a Malaysian, I feel the heartache to the families of those onboard and would like to give my deepest condolences to them.

The captain of this flight is Wan Amran Wan Hussin, who died in the MH17 crash. Also, he went on holiday to Istanbul with his family in 2013, who knows, maybe I might have seen him as someone living in Istanbul, even the thought is sad.

One little detail about the Turkish anouncement. The announcement at 17:20 says that the lights will be dimmed for taking off, not landing. So they probably use just one pre-recorded announcement for all cases. Not an important detail but seems awkward.

Likewise, the captain is Wan Amran Wan Hussin. The saddest thing for me is that, in addition to this flight to Istanbul, Wan Amran Wan Hussin also spent his last holiday in Istanbul with his wife and two children in 2013.
