It definitely gives me a "Get out" " Us" vibe. I just finished the series and it definitely triggered things in me as a black woman. Tryna comprehend the hell they went through and how resilient we are. It runs deeper than deep.
I understand wanting to do better but after what happened to his wife and son, why would he move to an all white area where he knows they won't be accepted? His wife has been through enough. Why not settle around well to do black people?
@@MoedotJ , I want to know why the wife didn't fight him on signing those papers? I want to know why they signed a deal that meant if they sold the house they got nothing? The husband is to blame for all of it.

That wouldn't have necessarily kept them safe. Prosperous black people built communities, like Black Wall Street, where they could prosper and watch out for each other. A lot of these communities were destroyed by racists, like in the Tulsa Race Massacre. A large part of the reason why a lot of black families do not have generational wealth is because their communities were destroyed and/or they were driven out of their homes in the Jim Crow era. Also, the Emory family, in particular, would have had no way of anticipating the racism they would face in the west. They had to drive 5-days to get there and had never seen the neighborhood before. Henry had already started a new job in the area. They had no real way of backing out once they arrived. However, they likely expected it would be at least better than in the South. Remember one of the ladies said that it would be hard to make them leave as where they came from was likely worse. On the whole, even as bad as racism was in the other parts of the country during this time, the southern states were much worse; which is why so many families migrated. If not for the supernatural element, they would probably have had better lives in the West than in the South.
Look up the history of the 2nd great migration job opportunities for black men in that career field. There were no opportunities in that field in his first home
@@torahzealots9151 especially with a degree in engineering, there was nothing in the south for blacks. They were still using mainly manual labor for a majority of jobs

I'm sure you already know this by now but the "CE" is for her son. His name is "Chester Emory". Thanks for your breakdown. You pointed out things I missed.
Loved this breakdown listening to you, I see I missed a few parts here & there. These clowns made me mad watching how disgusting they behaved. Lucky is not playing no games!!! She made me proud. I wouldn't have no other energy but what she showed now and back then. Thank you so much. Let me go watch episode 2 and come back lol.

It sucks but people, realtors and the government were doing a lot of terrible stuff, making it difficult to find good choices. I imagine he was in quite a tough spot, figured he went through a war, he can handle racist white neighbors.

@@MoedotJ appreciate you bro. On episode 5 before I started it I looked to see if you had a break down for the show so far and 👏👏. I usually hate movies like this but this show is 👏👏
We can be a little soft, but this show has so much horrific mess going on. I've found watching reviews between episodes on difficult shows like this makes it easier to get through, and get some other perspectives.
Very good review!! The show looks too creepy to watch but I definitely am drawn to wanting to see what this show is about, so I will just tune into your reviews so I can get a taste of what the show is about!! Thanks!
It has its scary moments but overall it's a great show, and informative. Ill have all the recaps dropping over the next couple of days. Thanks for the support!!
I saw this show popping up. And I went to watch the Trailer. It put me in the mind of the 2015 Fox show WAYWARD PINES mixed with HBO show with Journee Smollet. I'm really kinda over the white people ain't shit movies. We've seen em since we were kids. And after 20/ 20 every race now knows what its hitting for. So I'm not really interested in any of these movies or tv shows with this premise anymore. But I will give ep 1 a watch since u reviewed it.

This “show” is GARBAGE!!!!!! Why did we need a mini-series to show constant racist tension and trauma disguised as “entertainment” and on top of that, make it a horror????? I’m shocked that Lens Waite would even be a part of this ISH because she’s killing it with The Chi and Twenties. I’m a fan of her work but I’m sick and tired of seeing OUR pain used for laughter and entertainment. The show Underground was dumb idea and they should have got the memo. Plus, it has the tone of a really bad Jordan Peele knock-off? Effn PISSED me off!!!!!
There are spirits in the house because of the pact made on the land that no negros should live there , they were there to break them by tormenting them mentally. The lady the little girl was seeing and the man the dad was seeing were 2 of the spirits

Exactly
I agree I don't know why he picked Compton especially after she told him they couldn't sell to blacks. That right there was the big mistake.
