Detroit is about to have their most important season in a LONG time! How do YOU think they'll do? Will they make the playoffs? Or will we see some massive changes for them? Let me know folks! #GravGang
I see this season as a postseason-or-bust , but not necessarily a Cup-or-bust one, among teams in the: - Atlantic Division, Sabres, Wings and Sens - Metro Division, Isles, Caps and Pens - Central Division, Utah Hockey Club formerly known as the Yotes - Pacific Division, the Kraken
I agree they are a playoff team but also agree that so is so many others in the division but from if we are going to let also think they will try to make A move on defense when they can they obviously tried didn’t work out hopefully he can get slippery Steve and make that happen, fact is we gotta just see does Raymond and mo talking another step with Simon having a good start which actually growing pains yes but should be decent year for him still he can hit has a bit of nasty to him needs to show that , Tyler Mott good PK killer I think before they fire Steve they would fire the coach, hockey is better with them in the mix and even them just making it would boost the shit outta ratings , if they get it they can add another good center and 1 or 3 d and yeah the goalie thing , I would be very surprised if he doesn’t now really focus on just that , I 100 percent think you need to really good centers to be a top team , JT has his second year here and a good orher 5 so we’ll see def pulling for this group tho excited to see what MO ray and larks does they will def try to make it happen
"Need to see results or there will be MASSIVE changes..." What do you call going from 39-47-74-80-91 points? The team has literally improved every single season since Yzerman took over.
The reason it’s taken this long to get to this point is because Stevie Y was given nothing. If Ken H had a brain cell and drafted Quinn H instead of Zaldina we’d be a lock in the playoffs. Stevie Y has brought Detroit nothing but success and I imagine he’ll continue to do so even if it’s not overnight.
@@Zypemaytroexactly. Look at Ken Holland’s last 10 years at the helm (which, coincidentally, aligned with Bowman/Nill/Yzerman leaving). Every aspect of his job (signings/resignings/draft) was trash. The Mantha/Bertuzzi draft was the only positive during that time and his signings/re-signings were HISTORICALLY bad. Yzerman not only dug us out…but he made two absolute steal trades with Holland in EDM (Green/Athanasiou trades). Casual fans have zero clue how deep the hole was.
The improvement numbers wise was through the roof last year. The last 25 games was so deeply worrying from the standpoint of the blueprint of this team, complete collapse. We had the 8 spot with a 10 point cushion with like 2 months to go.
No sane Wings fan think this. Yzerman has his flaws, but it’s pretty clear what his plan is. Besides the core players, nobody is signed for more than 2 years. We have some bad contracts, but none of those will be on the team in 2 years. Yzerman is building a team that will compete for a long time, not a 1 time boom or bust type of team. Sure, players like Kane and Tarasenko are fun, but they are not key pieces of this team. We need bodies (and sell seats) before the rest of our young players/prospects are ready. So far, the majority is progressing well. Sure, it might not work out, but the “Yzerplan” is going as planned. If we make the playoffs, sure we’ll take it, but it’s definitely not boom or bust. Not your best take here.
100% agreed. Stevie Y has said so many times that’s what he’s doing. Has he made 100% of the right decisions no, but what Gm does. He gets more right than he gets wrong.
There are still sane wings fans. And you see teams like Buffalo that get multiple top 3 picks and still can't make the playoffs. They're right on schedule, people are just impatient
@@jwt6577Look at our record over 5yrs. We have improved every year he's been in charge. We missed the playoffs by a point last year and we were hit hard by injuries. It doesn't help that Detroit never gets any lottery luck. The year we drafted Raymond 4th overall. We should've had a top 2 pick.
Danielson, Kasper, Mazur, MBN, Sandin-Pellika, Cossa, Augustine, ext.. Will be major parts of the future Red Wings. They haven't even played yet. Saying it's a bust without those guys playing yet, is a joke. Plus Detroit has literally improved every single year under Yzerman.
Exactly our prospects pipeline is amazing for never having a top 3 pick. Sure we don’t have a superstar but a lot of solid 2 way players who could put up solid points and keep the puck out of the net.
Yep those are Yzerman's Red Wings. A lot of these players are still filler until they come up. When and if those players fill the roster and fail is when we question the success of the rebuild, not whether we squeak into the playoffs right now and make an early round exit.
It isn’t playoffs or bust. I think even if the team implodes this year and finishes last in the division, it isn’t time to blow it up. Secure a bonafide number 1 goalie. Sell off the UFAs, but don’t do anything drastic like trade Larkin. To me when a team starts selling off its core, that’s when it is bust. Mentioning the Wild as ‘playoffs or bust’ is also off the mark. They are obviously punting on this season and waiting for the $13M to come off the books from the Parise / Suter buyouts.
Everyone is pointing their frustrations at the wrong direction. 1. Detroit lost all lotto and only 2 years didn’t moved up a spot. 2. Yzerman inherited bad team with bad contracts that took years to complete. 3. Yzerman got the best players he could get on the roles that’s needed. With the lists of lottos, he couldn’t get the star plays such as Bedard.
@@streetsharkz what am I coping? Everyone who says Yzerman is bad are the coping since they truly don’t understand how long rebuilds takes, especially post cap era.
@@Chaosmite no people are not coping by saying he failed that makes no sense. if he was a true failure you'd be coping,if he is on the right track haters are not coping by saying he sucks the wings are not that much of a threat to the point other fanbases need to worry even if they succeed their is always good teams in the league u make no sense its not like their going win 10 cups straight
@@Chaosmite Not one but two teams literally built playoff caliber teams from scratch in the same amount of time. One of them won the Cup. He's floundering.
@@jwt6577 oh really? Which teams were rock bottom of the league with bad contracts and then won the cup in 4 years without picking up any best player due to bad lotto?
Saying this szn is boom or bust and Yzerman should be fired in a year or two is a horrible take. 1. Yzerman's Red Wings (2019-present) have improved every single year by a very good margin. 2. Post cap era rebuilds take a very long time and Yzermans started in 2019, his first prospect being Seider, and still has so many developing (Danielson, Kasper, Cossa, Augustine, Mazur, etc.). His team isnt even ready to play in the NHL yet. 3. Yzerman inherited a horrible team and had horrible luck in lotteries, yet he has still been able to build something great from it. Give us 2-3 more years to get some of these prospects up into the NHL and shed some bad contracts and we'll be comfortably making the playoffs every year. Just a little more patience and we'll get there.
It's not make or break. They have plenty of 1st round picks who look to be impact players, and they're still developing. They came from no farm system to one of the best. They went from cap hell to regular yearly cap turnover. Edvinsson will be on the team this year, which is another step. Hopefully Johansson is as well. After that.. Danielson, Kasper, Mazur, Brandsegg-Nygard, Sandin Pellika, Wallinder, Buium, Cossa, Augustine. All these guys are coming and developing really well. You have to remember, he did all of this without any top 3 draft picks and actually being bumped back in the draft almost every season. You are just plain wrong here. The team has a few bad contracts, namely Copp and Chiarot. Chiarot has 2 years left, Copp has 3 left. Definitely entering buyout territory with Copp at some point. The goalie situation is just a holdover until Cossa is ready. The defense is undeniably confusing, but it won't be in a year or two. This is not a make or break season. It's about growth.
Chariot has 2 more years, but he did look fairly solid last year. He'd probably be fantastic, if he played 3rd pair. Playing less minutes, against easier competition
@@gavinmarion91 Yeah you're right, my bad. Chiarot has 2 and Copp has 3, this year included. Copp has been a massive disappointment. Shades of Stephen Weiss, eh?
People can say all they want about the "bad" contracta yzerman signed. Use your heads. Detroit was a bottom feeder and werent contending anytime soon. He had to get people to come here somehow to get more competitive. Those contracts were not massive overpay and by the time it matters they will be long gone.
This. People act like Petry, Husso, Holl, etc. are signed for another eight years. There is 20M in cap space next summer, with no big RFA contracts that need to be signed. Yzerman just needs to be more aggressive if there is a chance to add a big name player.
The Red Wings and the Wild are in very similar positions right now... both teams have a lot cap space next summer & good prospects playing on their ELC's. Neither of these teams have the mindset that it's "playoffs or bust." Young guys developing / taking the next step is the plan... Expectations are much higher for both teams for the 25-26 season.
I think Detroit should take this process slowly, don’t rush any of the young dudes. Tank for first because we’re gonna need to get top three picks for a while in order to get a certified NHLer
They’re not going to add a goalie when they have Cossa and Augustine waiting in the wings. I think the plan is…hopefully you make the Playoffs this season…I don’t think them jumping Tampa, the Islanders or the Caps is unrealistic, and next season Petry is off the books, I think Fischer and Motte would be too, and you can bring up more young players. I dunno that Copp makes it to the end of his contract without being bought out. Which is sad, he was a good player at one point, and as a Wings fan…I was pumped when they signed him.
If the Wings don't make the playoffs, or worse yet, if their record is worse than last year's, ownership will seriously need to consider taking Stevie Y out of management and maybe keep him as an advisor, and Lalonde would, without a doubt, need to fired and hopefully have him replaced by a much better caliber coach like a John Tortorella. I'm not that confident the Wings will even make the pool playoffs this year. I think they overpaid Seider way too much as he hasn't shown me that he's blown assignments and tires during last season, and he didn't show much during the preseason or camp prior to the regular season. He will need a stellar season to convince me that he is worth the $8.5 mil the Wings are paying him per season. I think Stevie Y and Lalonde messed up by sending Marco Kasper and Danielson to GR. That was a stupid move. If anything, they should have sent Veleno and either a forward or a defenseman to GR and prep both of them to play better at defense. Veleno is a wasted asset and shouldn't even be on the roster. He did nothing for the Wings last season, and he didn't look impressive during preseason either. Justin Hol needs to be let go or put on waivers, and Husso should be traded or sent to GR. Stevie Y and Lalonde made a mistake by not letting Kasper and Danielson stay on the roster by giving them ultimatums to perform good enough to remain in the NHL. You could tell that these 2 guys, especially Kasper, were extremely good during the preseason, and there should have been dibbs on them remaining with the roster in the regular season, but again, I think Stevie Y and Lalonde have failed in their perceptible decision making. Anyhow, hope I'm actually wrong and they're right, but I gotta feeling they messed up on this decision. Wings will easily be wasting their time with Joe Veleno on the ice. He is in no way a play maker.
I agree that Wings / Rangers would have been a better series last year. I feel like the way the Wings were playing at the very end…they probably would’ve won a game or two at least.
Detroit will be starting their youth movement around 2026. When Petry and Maataa come off the books you can almost guarantee hope to see ASP if he stays on development track. Taresenko and Kane won't be long term and that's at least one spot available. I think once Yzerman has confidence enough to fill his top 9 with players like MBN, Danielson, and Mazur I think Detroit will settle in nicely to a competitive mold. Whether or not that includes playoffs or not idc as a fan I know our time is coming I only care about developing the young guys properly. If they regress this year I don't think it's that big of a deal unless it's terrible as far as where the team finishes in points but Detroit is a grindy team and they show it.
I think it will be a big battle for them. A team like Buffalo looks poised to make a major push. Ottawa has to be better. I think it will all come down to coaching. If ruff for example to get anything out of the Sabres I think they will make the playoffs given their talent. Detroit could but they lack real superstar talent. Seider is awesome and Raymond as well but I still struggle with Larkin as my 1C
Sure hope I'm wrong, but after watching the highlights on that Red team White team game, seems like some of the rookies or newbies impressed me more than the Wings veterans. I really think that the Wings ought to consider having Sebastian Cossa in the lineup to see how he does. Not so sure about Cam Talbot, and I love Lyon's play from last year but he wasn't reliable towards the end there. We actually needed the (can't remember his name, the 3rd stringer) to play in net to get the Wings to stay in the hunt for the playoffs. As much as I can't stand thinking about it, I'm not convinced Seider is the guy to take the Wings to the promise land, but after hearing him speak with the media after getting signed, looks like he's wanting to prove that he's worth every penny of that contract. I hope so. I'm not impressed much with German nationals playing in this league. Seider is gonna need to improve his offense and start taking more slap shots on net. That's what I'll miss about not having Gostisbehere around. He blasted the puck with a slap shot towards the net, scaring the living Sh--- outta people. Seider doesn't utilize his slap shot enough. And when he blew a defensive assignment like he did several times last season, fans were scratching their heads thinking that picking this guy in the first round may have been a flop. I don't know if either Seider or Raymond are worth the money they're getting now. The only way we can tell is if they are phenomenal going forward. I just don't know, especially for somebody like Seider. They keep saying Seider is working his butt off when he's on the ice. Is that b/c he's out there with Chiarot? I think these guys that the Wings acquired a few years back need to get rid of them---- Chiarot, Petry, Hol, Copp, Compher, and worse of all, Joe Veleno---- they just don't do it for me. Maatta is probably the only one of that acquisition group that did well, depending on who he was paired up with. I also don't think Berggren, coming up from GR, is the piece they need to solve the puzzle in the line up. Wings NEED to have Danielson in the line up, and give Mazur, Kasper, and Lombardi a shot, along with getting Cossa up in the major leagues. I hope I'm wrong, maybe due to impatience, but I think Stevie Y has some blown opportunities not getting some of these rookies up in the big leagues. Veleno is a total waste of time on the ice. Even Fischer who can't skate well does better than Veleno. By now, Veleno should've been proving himself to be a force on the Wings. I just think he's such a bust. Don't know about this Gustafson or Motte. We'll see what they'll do as the season progresses. We already know what Kane and Tarasenko are capable of, so I'm ok with them on the ice. Also, I sort of had the impression last year that the Wings were trying to take their games into overtime more than trying to come up with a win during regulation. Wasn't that how the Caps got to the playoffs over the Wings? Think so. And Larkin needs to learn how to play hurt. Stevie Y did back in the day. Larkin was out at least twice for long periods of time last season. This guy makes a ton of money per year--- he NEEDS TO learn to play hurt, or he shouldn't bother asking for all those millions the Wings give him. Anyhow, I get the feeling we'll be walking on eggshells, especially with those vets, like Petry, Chiarot, Copp, Veleno, and Compher, didn't step up when the Wings NEEDED some wins down the stretch. And it doesn't say much about their coach, Lalonde. If he mutters anything ridiculous in front of the media and the Wings are in a losing streak like they did a couple of times last year, Stevie Y will then need to decide to switch him out. There were times, especially when the Wings were getting hammered with losses, that Lalonde should have qualified for the unemployment line, but Stevie Y stayed with him, and they just missed last season's playoffs. This stubborness effort by Stevie Y will not work if there are no results soon. His draft picks are anxious to get into the big leagues. Just don't understand it. Stevie Y got in at 18 during the 1980s, yet he thinks his draft picks aren't ready until usually after they hit 20 years old. That's just unfair. Some of these draft picks are ready, and have been ready, for some time now. Stevie Y needs to figure out how to get rid of the Veleno's and the Petry's of the Wings staff and insert these draft picks who are full of piss and vinegar, pardon my French.
As an avid wings fan here, i think your pretty spot on in your assessment. I hope they make it but we will see. This is close to a make or break season but id give it 1 more year. The youth movement is the key here. Only 2 yzerman draft picks in the lineup last season. We will have 3 basicly rookies starting this season. Simon, burgeren, and Johansson. Plus we really need to see mazur, kasper, danielson in some way. So 3+ rookies in the lineup is not a great idea. We need to get these first round picks up and playing in the NHL. Cant wait forever
Considering how lucky they were last season its unrealistic to think they will take a step this year similar to the Sabres 2022-23 season when their advanced stats were way off the chart with shooting percentage and wont be replicated. Its just unfortunate for Yzerman and Lalonde 1 or both will likely be gone after this season just cause of the expectations are pretty unrealistic
I don't think it's playoffs or bust for the Red Wings. I don't know why that's always the focus. It should be playoff for bust for both Buffalo and Ottawa at this point. Buffalo has had four top three picks in the past 10 years. The talent that's gone through that system is ridiculous. Ottawa started the rebuild with Zibanejad, Mark Stone, and Eric Karlsson as a young core in 16-17 and managed to f that up and then still ended up with higher picks than Detroit. SY had Larkin, Bertuzzi and Mantha as his top players. Ken Holland screwed up every first round after Larkin (and most before to be honest). His only top pick that is still in the NHL is Rasmussen. The only other players still in the NHL from Holland's picks in that time frame are Veleno, Burgers, and Hronek. On top of that, we were paying huge money for mediocre players like Justin Abdekader (still on the books) and a heavily injured DDK among others. We were at the cap limit with slightly above average AHL caliber team in the NHL and a beer league team in the AHL in 2019. If that wasn't enough, the wings have been bumped down in more draft lotteries than any other NHL team. Our highest pick was number four in a relatively weak draft (love Razor, no complaints). Despite all of that working against him, Stevie has improved the team every single year. He has gone 3 for 3 (assuming Edvinsson plays as expected) so far with his first picks. Our prospects are developing well. I think he's allowed a few short-term bad contracts and even one year of regression. Stevie Y has been so damn good he's garnered a slew of RUclipsrs and pundits out there salivating at the prospect of him actually having a bad year. The fact that playoffs is even a discussion is a miracle right now. What's even better is we still have 19 million in space next summer with no major pending RFAs. In the future looks bright for Detroit in spite of all the things working against them. Any fans that are complaining are either ignorant or impatient. Buffalo and Ottawa, the videos are about Detroit, but the pressure is on you. You started with more than we've had, were rewarded with more than we've gotten, and are supposed to be ahead of us. Stevie Y isn't on the hot seat, but I bet you'll feel the heat from your fans if Detroit's ahead of you in April.
Their is no bust if we miss its a matter of time people are impatient, yzerman is building a very good contender for the future and he’s doing it the proper way just gotta keep believing in him and stop .the man ain’t stupid look what he built in Tampa all those key players to lead to back to back championships and 3 straight Stanley cup finals you call that stupid i don’t think so.people need to stfu and be patient
We saw what this was ridiculous pressure did to the Oilers last year. Wings fans, they spect a slight regression but should Be huge for our young kids. Next year we will Make the playoffs and complete after that.
The biggest change in this team will need to be development from the young guys and a goaltender stepping up. Seider, Edvinsson, Berggren, Raymond, and hopefully one of Soderblom, Danielson, Kasper, Johansson, and Mazur making strides and exceeding expectations.
I agree Edvinsson is legit. He will carry Jeff likely the whole season. I see a trade at the deadline or at some point to acquire a better defender, so him and MO won’t have to kill themselves.
Eh Red Wings aren't in trouble until their 1st rounders start panning out and so far every 1st round pick has looked good. Seider is good, Raymond is Good, Kasper took a large step last year, Danielson and ASP look good, and MBN we will see this year
Honestly we're one more bona fide left shot defenseman, another Center of Larkin's caliber or higher and a top-tier goaltender before we can talk about being a cup contender and without tough the Atlantic is it wouldn't Shock Me to see them not make it again this year
It's not even really year 6 there was basically no prospects when he took over the books were brutal when he took over the contracts on the books when he took over were brutal the mess Ken holland left him was very bad it took 2 or 3 years just to clear the books he's really only 2 or 3 years into the rebuild not 5 I'm sorry but he's just not the books were brutal and he had like no prospects and no young talent on the roster besides larkin mantha hronek and bertuzzi and none of them were 18 or 19 he had to build up the prospects and get the books cleared he's trying to build a contender not a playoff team he wants them to be a good team for 15 plus years
A full season of Kane is huge, especially because he was able to train as hard he wanted to this offseason for the first time in a few years. He'll likely be better this year than he was last year and we'll have him a full season. There weren't a ton of signings this offseason because there werent a ton of spots. We have the deepest prospect pool in the league and they're going to change the look of this roster big time by season's end
Make or break? No. His job is secure because he's a good gm. Whether they make the playoffs or not this year it wont matter. He's building for sustainability. Has he been mistake free? No. But not getting a top 3 pick and landing guys like Seider and Raymond is incredible. Every year the team has climbed the standings in points. No one can deny his constant upward trajectory. He is not going anywhere and im happy about that. So glad the internet isnt in charge of this team. We'd still be a bottom feeder.
His job is only secure because Illitch isn't as ambitious as his dad was. Mike would have punted him back to Tampa after the team collapsed three times in a season the way they did last season.
@@thenickfoxxSure thing. Just go pray to Saint Stevie that Larkin actually plays a full season and Debrincat remembers the puck is supposed to go IN the net and not off the post. Or maybe one of their many, many third string goalies stops a puck.
This is not a make or break year. I don’t care what people feel. Anyone that puts pressure on this extremely young core are ignorant and don’t understand the situation. Yzerman has improved every year as GM. We have seen massive improvements. The team is still not ready. To compete at the highest level. Making the playoffs is not Yzermans goal. Competing for Cups are and will always be his goal. Ownership understands this and smart fans do as well. They are on the cusp. What does that mean? They could make the playoffs, but that’s not the goal. Bringing up some of the youth is key for future development. I think we are still a year away, but once we get there we will make a long long playoff appearance run. Building a core of young players will prove to smart. Some people are just ignorant!
Not gonna lie, I don't like that they're coming out of their lean years with this roster. The top-end talent is NOT Cup-worthy. You can't win with Larkin / Raymond your best forwards. Too many overpaid ageing depth guys. And because they've improved a lot, they no longer have access to top-of-the-board prospects, they'll be drafter 15th or later from now on. I don't see how they can win with what Yzerman has put in place.
Great Video, as usual, Nathan. I am not sure that I even know what The Yzerplan is. I don't even know that Steve Yzerman knows what it actually is. Let me know what you think
@@sallybags9090 Thank You for your comment. I don't know about that. I don't remember that much about what Scotty Bowman did in Detroit. I remember him more for his time as Coach of The Montreal Canadiens. I merely don't know what he's trying to accomplish. I think that he thinks this is The Chicago Black Hawks of The 1970s, but, using the players on Chicago, from about 7 years ago. Let me know what you think
@@mariovaccarella6854 Ok, what Scotty did in Detroit was getting our young guys, at the time, integrated with vets. He also made all of our players play two-way hockey. His system pissed Yzerman off to the point of almost trading him to Ottawa. We had a young Lidstrom, Konstantin, Fedorov, and others. Fedorov was an instant star. Lidstrom and Konstantinov were not. So he would get vets via trade or free agency. We would draft two way forward and defenseman. As our young guys progressed, Scotty would either trade them for better players or trade the vets. The Shanny trade was a controversial trade and the trade that put us over the top. We traded Paul Coffee and Keith Primeau, Keith was drafted 3rd overall, and our owner did not want to trade him. Bowman fought like hell to trade him. Bowman won, and we got shanny. Scotty believed that in order to win playoff games, which we were having trouble winning(see Red Wings 1995), we needed our offensive players to change the way they played. The days of Yzerman, Fedorov, and the rest scoring over 100 points were over. Scotty wanted our guys to be tough to play against defensively. Yzerman and Fedorov and other key guys saw their point and goal totals drop, but our defensive game improved. Our team started drafting two-way players and strong defensemen. By the late 1990s, we drafted Datsyuk and Zetterburg. We drafted Andres Erickson. i believe in the first round. He won a cup in 98, and in 99, we promptly traded him for Chelios. We would groom our young guys and eventually trade some of them for better, more established players. Scotty and our front office were one of the first to find those two-way players in Europe. Scotty knew that to eventually win championships, you had to roll 4 lines of tough two-way hockey players. Its also good business, because these types of players makes the most valuable trade assets. Its taking a little longer partly because of the lack of lottery luck and because when Yzerman came back we had NO prospects. Our prospect pool was near the bottom. We also had a ton of bad contracts that Holland left behind. Also the last 4 or 5 years Holland was here, he traded alot of our draft picks to extend the playoff streak. Thats why Yzerman didn't bother bringing in his own coach immediately. Yzerman had to get rid of alot of our bad contracts. Clean up our cap. We desperately needed defensemen. When Holland drafted Zadina, everyone was so pissed off. We all wanted Hughes because we needed good defensemen. Yzermans first draft, i knew if he selected a d-man he would be following Bowmans philosophy. At 6th overall he selected Mo Seider. I was relieved lol. Everyone said "wtf is Yzerman doing?" Well that kid is going to be a major building black. Then he drafted Raymond. We were the worst team in all of hockey and got the 4th overall pick. I just knew he was going to go with the Swedish kid. He's exactly the type of player Bowman would want. The wings are notorious for bringing kids along until they're ready. Its both a good way to manage the cap and it benefits the young kids. The first chance Yzermans gets to turn a couple of our prospects into a real good trade package that benefits the team, he will pull the trigger. He's playing the long game when it comes to draft picks and prospects. I know the waiting game sucks, but give it some time. The guy is not a loser.
@@doughunks4221Walman is probably the most overrated detroit defenseman in my lifetime, and I've been around since the mid 80's. The guy is average, at best. Nothing special. But you would think he was the next Lidstrom coming from my fellow red wing fans.
Does everyone forget the 7 game losing streak last season? If not for that, the Wings would've been a Playoff team. How is that not obvious? C'mon people, common sense!!!!!!!
My thoughts: You're wrong. I believe in what Patrick Kane thinks about this team as opposed to you. If we really weren't good enough to make the playoffs, Kane and Taresanko wouldn't of signed here. I think Detroit makes wild card and puts up a solid fight round 1.
They will finish last is division 😂😂😂 Their D is shite, their goaltending is porous. Got older on top 6… who is their # 2C !? I love Yzerman but gawd damn they are fumbling the rebuild
Well you said Edvinnsons first name wrong and got the starting goalie tandem wrong as well. Husso will be the #1 Talbot the #2 and Lyon will be in the A or extra.
They will try with Husso again but he will be a .900 or less and let in more than 3 GAA. That is so unless he gets injured which is a high probability.
Imo ghost was a defensive liability as with griddy boy. GAA will come down and we’ll win more 1 goal games. That’s what you need to do to make the playoffs. Love the channel. Cheers!
So the Yzerplan was to suck and trade your good player like Bertuzzi and Mantha for a bunch of veteran wingers and defensemen that will be out the team in more or less 2 years ? This is not a rebuild 🤣 just take a look at the Habs, building with youth
You can't build fast when you have 8 year of no playoffs and the highest draft pick is 4th. why do people think buffalo is better cause they have had multiple top 5 picks in that same timeframe. and remember they changed the lottery system during detroits worst year like wtf
No, its not. He's literally taking a page out of the Scotty Bowman book. The first two years he inherented a minor league team devoid of any prospects. A nhl team with awful contracts. On top of that we get no lottery luck. Yet we still got Seider and Raymond. We had 91 points last year. Look at the point totals the last 5yrs. We have improved every single year. Alot of you guys have no idea what your talking about.
Anyone that parrots the phrase "Yzer-plan" needs to be muted. Forever. Ranks right up there with "Core four" and "Deserves" It is pathetic use of the English language.
@@MrFuzyWuzy You do realize it takes time right? Especially when there's no lottery luck. The first 2 years we had no prospects. We had awful contracts we had to get rid of. How would you get our team to the playoffs in less than 5yrs? Do you think Yzerman enjoys not making the playoffs? He's doing his best. We had 41 wins and 91 points last year. Thats progress. If Larkin could've stayed healthy. We probably make the playoffs.
@@sallybags9090 ok, lets get another team who was in a similar situation, the Vancouver Canucks, they had dogshit contracts, 0 lottery luck and a terrible GM, than they hire a new GM who actually believed in his team and BOUGHT good young players like Hronek, sold players the were UFAs like Horvat and made smart decisions. Unlike the deadwings who settle with mid and the Canucks ended up contending after 1 year, if the wings kept Hronek they would’ve been in the playoffs.
They will be better than last year. They will make the playoffs. The top 6 teams in the Atlantic will make the playoffs. The real question is who’s #6 ? Buffalo or Ottawa ?
Wings make the playoffs if kane plays a full season. Wings make the playoffs if Larkin doesnt get injured at the end of the season. Wings make the playoffs if Debrincat gets any sort of puck luck. The haters can be mad because now kane is playing a full season, Debrincat will put more pucks in the net and Larkin will likely play 82 games. 🎉🎉🎉GO WINGS 🪽

Detroit is about to have their most important season in a LONG time! How do YOU think they'll do? Will they make the playoffs? Or will we see some massive changes for them? Let me know folks! #GravGang
I see this season as a postseason-or-bust , but not necessarily a Cup-or-bust one, among teams in the:
- Atlantic Division, Sabres, Wings and Sens
- Metro Division, Isles, Caps and Pens
- Central Division, Utah Hockey Club formerly known as the Yotes
- Pacific Division, the Kraken
I could see them get 94 points and miss the playoffs
"Need to see results or there will be MASSIVE changes..." What do you call going from 39-47-74-80-91 points? The team has literally improved every single season since Yzerman took over.
Are you new to the internet? Making valid points is going to attract so much hate. 😂
if more people read this they would increase thier IQ points by 50
The reason it’s taken this long to get to this point is because Stevie Y was given nothing.
100%
100% agreed. Stevie Y has said so many times that’s what he’s doing. Has he made 100% of the right decisions no, but what Gm does. He gets more right than he gets wrong.
Yup. This. 26/27 onwards have to be playoff years, though.
There are still sane wings fans. And you see teams like Buffalo that get multiple top 3 picks and still can't make the playoffs. They're right on schedule, people are just impatient
@@frequentsee381526 yeah but there’s a clear problem any year later
Yzerman building a Stanley Cup Winner not just a playoff qualifier.
Is he also GMing another team because the Red Wings look mid as hell.
@@jwt6577 You must be talking about Tampa Bay, who looked "mid" in 2016-17 before multiple 100 point seasons and two Stanley Cups.
@@epistiepucks_811Funny how the Cups only came after he was gone.
The Habs rebuild looks to be a hundred times better than what Yzerman has done.
Nice cope
@@streetsharkz what am I coping? Everyone who says Yzerman is bad are the coping since they truly don’t understand how long rebuilds takes, especially post cap era.

Yep terms
@@willsmithmachine5244plus the cap is projected to go up another $4 million next season.
Detroit has 200k left bud
@@streetsharkz i know. I was talking about 25-26 offseason
He built the Habs old defense.
I think Detroit should take this process slowly, don’t rush any of the young dudes. Tank for first because we’re gonna need to get top three picks for a while in order to get a certified NHLer
I don't think that pressure is there for Detroit yet. I honestly don't foresee them competing until next season.
if anyone has been disappointed in the Yzerplan then they only have themselves to blame for their unrealistic expectations.
Axel Sandin Pellikka has 2 goals in 2 SHL games so far!
Hopefully he has another big year! Wonder if he will be in GR at some point in the season.
The "bandaid players" don't start coming off the books till next year, from there on its playoffs or bust.
It’s not playoffs or bust for a bit still. When we have Nate, Marko, ASP, Cossa and Trey on our team. All off the ELC then it’s playoffs or bust.
Stevie Y will never be fired.
I love the Wings but the Canadians are going to be a surprise dark horse this year leap frogging over many teams and potentially playoff bound!
Lmao
Can talbot has shown he just needed a good team to show his true potential. Unfortunately for him, that only happened a few times in his career

Wings fans, they spect a slight regression but should
Be huge for our young kids. Next year we will
Make the playoffs and complete after that.
The biggest change in this team will need to be development from the young guys and a goaltender stepping up. Seider, Edvinsson, Berggren, Raymond, and hopefully one of Soderblom, Danielson, Kasper, Johansson, and Mazur making strides and exceeding expectations.
I feel like next year would be make or break
Walman was benched during Detroit's most important stretch and Ghost can't play defense at all, they def upgraded on the D compared to last year
Edvinsson is legit

Yeah it was brutal when he took over. Still hate the fact Ken H passed on Quinn H.
Bro use periods sometimes
A full season of Kane is huge, especially because he was able to train as hard he wanted to this offseason for the first time in a few years. He'll likely be better this year than he was last year and we'll have him a full season. There weren't a ton of signings this offseason because there werent a ton of spots. We have the deepest prospect pool in the league and they're going to change the look of this roster big time by season's end
Wings fan and we’re going nowhere with that god awful d core. We’ll take a big step next few years when the kids make the team

They are going to miss Sprong.

He's literally using the same philosophy as Scotty Bowman.

I hope Grier’s plan doesn’t take this much time as Yzerman’s
most rebuilds take 5+ years but sj did win the lotto draft to get celebrini so thats a plus detroit never got. Your welcome for the lotto changes btw
San Jose did get Walman with the gritty. Good start and #1 pick in Celebrini. Good start to his rebuild.
Grier actually knows what he's doing.
Red Wings will run 3 goalies again this year
Lubowitz Cliff
Do you ever miss making good content?
Wow seeing compher that high up is depressing
Compher played pretty damn good last year.
Reuben Circle
My thoughts: You're wrong. I believe in what Patrick Kane thinks about this team as opposed to you. If we really weren't good enough to make the playoffs, Kane and Taresanko wouldn't of signed here. I think Detroit makes wild card and puts up a solid fight round 1.
Mertz Courts
They will finish last is division 😂😂😂
Their D is shite, their goaltending is porous.
Got older on top 6… who is their # 2C !?
I love Yzerman but gawd damn they are fumbling the rebuild
You've got the mental capacity of a 5 year old 😂
@@Detroitgondoitno you're way too harsh upon the 5 years old children.. they're way more advanced that this snail's IQ 😅
Yzersham gonna yzerplant.
Roob Cove
Karelle Landing
Lexie Isle
Zulauf Ridge
Kirlin Plaza
Terrible take.
There are a wealth of prospects coming in the next 3 years.
How you judge a rebuild in year 6 is extremely short sighted
theres like 5
No it's not..
u dont know hockey
When your starting to pay your young talent big NHL contracts that’s the turning point in a rebuild when it’s playoffs or bust
😂😂😂@@StuckInSyrup
@@dallashayley8986he was talking about himself 😂😂
They need to take the next step but I don’t think this team is good enough to take that next step. The D men on this team besides seider is not good.
Totally overrated imo..
So this is a 15min. video bashing the Red Wings? Lol
I dont think they’re there yet..
Cheers!
Most mid rebuild ...
So the Yzerplan was to suck and trade your good player like Bertuzzi and Mantha for a bunch of veteran wingers and defensemen that will be out the team in more or less 2 years ? This is not a rebuild 🤣 just take a look at the Habs, building with youth
Larkin pees sitting down - Seider for captain
You can't build fast when you have 8 year of no playoffs and the highest draft pick is 4th. why do people think buffalo is better cause they have had multiple top 5 picks in that same timeframe. and remember they changed the lottery system during detroits worst year like wtf
This is the worst re building
No, its not. He's literally taking a page out of the Scotty Bowman book. The first two years he inherented a minor league team devoid of any prospects. A nhl team with awful contracts. On top of that we get no lottery luck. Yet we still got Seider and Raymond. We had 91 points last year. Look at the point totals the last 5yrs. We have improved every single year. Alot of you guys have no idea what your talking about.
Tomorrow night kids, 1st preseason game. I need red wing hockey
Watch Detroit go to the eastern conference finals
All depends on if our goalies decide to play out of their mind
OMG such an optimist.
Only if they buy tickets
In my opinion Ottawa has more talent, so I don't see Detroit making playoffs before Senators do
Why are all Canadian fanbases so delusional?
I cringe everytime you do your bet us ad.
Anyone that parrots the phrase "Yzer-plan" needs to be muted.
Forever. Ranks right up there with "Core four" and "Deserves"
It is pathetic use of the English language.
Detroit doesn’t have defence or goaltending
Playoff or bust?
It won't be the playoffs.
Not making playoffa
Most overrated team by far, loaded with middle 6 forwards
Wouldn’t call Kane Larkin Raymond and Debrincat middle 6 forwards… 😂 cmon bro
terrible take holy
It’s been 5 years and no playoffs. His plan is cheeks
You really have the long term vision, don't you lol?
@@sallybags9090 No, I think 5 years no playoffs is great!!
The Bruins falling out that could be the key to Detroit making the post season
They will be better than last year. They will make the playoffs.
The top 6 teams in the Atlantic will make the playoffs. The real question is who’s #6 ?
Buffalo or Ottawa ?
I don't know how you get six Atlantic teams with only 2 wild card spots, but it'll be pretty impressive when it happens.😂
Yzerman is going to trade for Brady Tkachuk after the sens shit the bed again. He will be this eras Shanny.
🎉🎉🎉GO WINGS 🪽
can someone please tell me how in the holy god sake of all gods green flat earth, is jeff petry on the fucking team still, WE HAVE LIKE 4 D MAN WHOS BETTER
He's just a cheap depth piece.
Yzerman is basically unfireable so idk what you are on about.
Yeah even if the team implodes he’s not getting fired. He’s there until he steps down.
