I love this series. I’ve been doing this for a while but there’s always something new to learn and improve upon. Thank you Weaver and Chuck! Mr. Dorsett always makes these videos interesting and fun. You have great energy and passion for your work and it comes across.

I never worry about getting glue on the edge because I finish the edges on my 1x42 belt sander. I use a new 120 grit belt and it leaves a fine edge. I then go back over the edges with the edge beveler. The big thing to remember is I use the slack belt area and hold the sheath the long ways, never hold the part sideways because the belt can cut a nick or step into the edge. If I need to remove a lot of material I use a knife. For doing belts that are lined I use the 9" disk sander on my combo 1x42 with a 9" disk. I find that by using my belt sander its best to dampen the edges to cut down on flying dust plus it leaves a nicer edge that is perfect every time. I make knives which is how I got into leather.

I found that stabbing the hole punch chisel into a candle makes it go out of the leather easy after punching

I got glue on the top grain of my sheath and I don’t know what to do I had to restart when I messed up the back part of the sheath * 1st time making something out of leather from scratch *

I hate it that you got glue on the top grain. I hate to say it but it happens to all of us. The pencil eraser will help but it may leave a spot. If you go with a black dye it may cover it well enough, or, if that doesn’t you can use a Sharpie to help fill it in. I just used black dye to do a border because I raked some yellow paint across it and it would show with any other color…again, it happens to all of us. Don’t get discouraged. You’re making mistakes now but you’re learning how to avoid, and correct, them and that’s a major step to making some really nice work. Good luck with it!
