  • "What's the best place to have sex on a festival?" Sofie mocht als enige journalist op Graspop de sympathieke mannen van Kiss interviewen. Mega zenuwachtig maar zoals steeds met rake, relevante vragen!

I love how Gene points to Paul when he walks by, but doesn't move his face or rolls his eyes. Just stares straight ahead, pokerface hahah

The record companies killed the music. Not the fans.

      Ren Zenith
Then judge his arguments. Did copying music took not place before the "digital generation". Long time before I downloaded a song on kazaa, I taped LP's from friends. Sharing of music appeared way earlier than filesharing.
But record companies nowadays look for short-term Revenues, thats why they dont support 3 Albums of young bands before they create Revenues.
I understand your ponit about Gene's experience in the business, but would you also trust a sheep's opinion on the price of wool?

True. Previously record companies cared about their artists and took risk to make sure they were noticed, and thereby selling more records covering those risks.
Now record companies don't give a f@ck about music, it's ALL about the money and put the prettiest face (usually with the least musical talent) on the poster to sell it, and the guys (hardly ever women, sadly...) running it are interchangeable as well - there's absolutely no commitment and so you end up with hundreds of one-hit-wonders that are forgotten as soon as the song stops. Throwaway artists for the throwaway generation.

Major record labels started to take the piss with record buyers in the 90's chasing up cd prices like crazy really and when Napster came into the fold in '99, 2000, it was like feeding cheese to a mouse. People fed up with towering record prices... So in a way the music industry is to blame first, then mainstream record buying music fans.

Can we spoke about System of a Down for a world popular band from this 20 last year ?

    • @sonicriccardi7575
      @sonicriccardi7575 3 года назад +1

I mean, ik this comment is 5 years old, this comment is old & so is System, like 20+ years. Not to mention, they haven’t had new music since like 2005, so that’s kind of a no

I can't see the point of downloading music free or otherwise. I want a physical copy, either CD or Vinyl. That way I can get the best out of it and I have something that is worth something in the future. Downloads aren't worth a red cent. You pay for something that has no value. I have found listening to bands on RUclips points me in the right direction as to what I want to buy on Ebay on a weekly basis. Best part is building up an awesome collection. But this is something mainly Metalheads do and that is why we are known as the most loyal fans in the world. \m/ Metal 4 Life \m/

yes I totally agree, there's nothing more beautiful then a nice record collection I wanna buy my albums, the walkman on my phone is a wonderful gadget but nothing more long live the real deal \m/

  • @Schapie93

This seriously sounds as if artist cannot get famous if people dont pay for their music. It will always be, and has always been, about doing something original or refreshing in some way. And if they do that with passion, there will be fans paying for shows and merch and music.
Way back people only got to know what was played on the radio or what a music store had to offer. Now the offer is way bigger, that is true, does that mean there is no popular music? Nope. The genre of the popular music changes over time. 60s/70s were filled with rock bands, then the popular music started to lean a bit on disco, the 90s were filled with synthesisers and boybands. Now we had a wave of r&b and dance, but last year a lot of boybands again. Besides, itll take the average band a while to fill up bigger avenues, but there are lots that all out shows.
Bands get big if there are a lot of peiple that like them. Atm thatd be more likely to be a dance act than a rockband. But rock not being mainstream doesn't make it dead.

    Totally awesome!! KISS rules!
Record companies need to find a media form that can't be copied. They should have done a non-copyable or non uploadable cd like they did with DVDs a long time ago. But that is why vinyl came back. It evolves eventually. There are still a lot of people buying music. Vinyl os what's selling now. But I see the point. Hopefully the record industry will evolve and catch up to speed to support new rock and metal acts again. The talent is still out there.

there are a lot of good and new/newish bands like slipknot korn muse volbeat Metallica nirvana and rammstein

    • @rvork4113
      @rvork4113 8 лет назад +1

      +jeff Collett
      Rammstein is from 94
      Nirvana from 87
      Metallica from 81
      Muse from 94
Volbeat from 2001 (by far the most non famous of the one you named)
      Slipknot 95
and Korn from 93, so all 20 years and older except for Volbeat, but it is what Gene said, if you say, on the streets, to someone regular, name a song or a member from Volbeat, they dont have an answer...

Gene's assumption, "Rock is dead" is ridiculous. Just because your not mainstream or music isn't generating revenue in record sells doesn't mean rock is dead.

I don't agree with Gene. The tickets for festivals are so expensive these days, bands make more than enough money by performing on festivals and concerts. They are overpaid as it is. As for free downloading of music, it's easier for bands to become famous this way. I think it's a good thing we can listen to music for free, you try way more things now.
I did like KISS on Graspop, that was quite the show!

Generations are changing, so does the music. Why must everyone to be a rocker? If the new kids of today want to listen to electronic music, let them do that.
Gene looks like he is totally not in the mood for an interview. Okay, the questions "what is the best place to have sex at a festival" and "can you do kiss make up to me" are maybe stupid questions, but I get kinda awkward looking at their obtuse reactions. I also don't understand why the "stop it" of Gene isn't cut out of the video.
