I had a terrible DistroKid experience. Apparently one of the stores rejected a song. They won’t tell me which song, which artist or why. They curtly said “you’ll need to find another distributor”. ??? My songs are pop and rock and are all professionally recorded and mastered. We own all the rights. There is simply no reason for this to happen. People love DistroKid’s price but please beware. There are other services out there.
Thanks for providing this feedback. It’s important to consider all the options and find what works for you. Personally, I haven’t ever had an issue with DistoKid so can only speak from personal experience, but like anything, it is always good to listen to a range of feedback when making a decision.

Just make sure you use your same unique artist name. DistroKid has a “Fixer” tool as well which can help you correct any artist name issues. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
It’s probably worthwhile. Looking back now I’ve used quite a few of the features, particularly the price setting so I could sell my album for $10. And nice to know I have another artist name if I want to release under a different name in the future.

After you've released the song, it will store the 2nd artist. Hope i explained properly 😅

If you have three artist names you want to release under then you will need the “Label” plan. For individual tracks that have a featured artist you just add this to the track name. Here’s a video showing more details about the release process - ruclips.net/video/yworYEhGIF0/видео.html
There’s an article over on DistoKid’s web site about this. I try to find it for you. Essentially it’s not really possible to downgrade as many of the features you get with the upgraded account would then still be in stores (custom label name, custom pricing etc) You would likely need to cancel and then sign up again and resubmit.

If you want the daily stats, just use the Spotify for artists app. It seems distrokid is only providing the same Spotify streaming stats. Can someone confirm if this has been expanded since this video was made 2 years ago?

The 'musician plus' package is $ 36. and it says that if I pay now, they will deposit $ 11.45 back into my account. What I am curious about is; If I buy this package now, will it be valid for 1 year from today (April 2022) or will it be valid until September 2021, as in my old plan?

Hey there. Make sure you remove all songs released and then you’ll need to ask DistroKid to remove your artist name. There’s no way to automatically do this in my experience

Hey there. You need to ensure that all releases under that artist are removed, and then you will need to ask DistroKid to remove the artist name. To my knowledge there is no way to do this yourself.

So, you can add a featured artist in the title using the “feat.” wording suggested by DistroKid. Being with a record label shouldn’t matter ok this situation as long as you’re not using audio that has already been released by a label.

The way Content ID on RUclips works is that if you upload to RUclips and enable content ID, if someone else uses your song in their video and monetises the video, DistroKid will put a claim in on that video and collect any ad revenue from the video on your behalf. I would suggest contacting them and your bank to question this. As far as I know they only allow credit cards for payment and provide deposits via PayPal, so not sure why they would be withdrawing money from a bank account?

Hey there my friend. So, I haven’t released anything since my album so I will need to jump in and have a look. But yes, I’m pretty sure that popped up once I had started uploading via DistroKid so I would suggest uploading a track and it should link up your name on Apple.
Steven Official to update the apple music profile you need to go to Apple Music for Artists Beta and register, they've changed it up, before you could do it straight from distrokid
Correct me if I'm wrong- One of the most important, overlooked feature of Musician Plus is that the artist is able to pitch their song to Spotify Curators which is otherwise not possible in the 'Musician' plan?
I didn’t actually know there was a specific feature through DistroKid for this? But if you mean that you can delay your release to give you time to promote, then yes.

It depends on the platform, but in my experience it only takes around 2 days from when you upload until your song is available to stream or buy in most places. If you want a specific date you can set a release date if you have the “Musician Plus@ account. So my usual process is to upload two days before I want the song available.

Ommar Ney for Spotify you can get access to your artist page through distrokid and customize everything. iTunes I’m not sure about yet, I’m still trying to figure it out. Edit: Apple music for artists also helps you change it in the Manage section on computer. you can get access to that though distrokid as well.

Hey there. No, and in fact there’s no way to register on a platform without releasing a song. Once you submit a song under an artist name, the platform will create that artist name for you.

Artists with very popular music are able to generate more revenue from their streams and because DistroKid gives the artist 100% of all royalties, it makes it easier to get paid.

One of you would need to sign up as Musician Plus and then manage the releases. You need to simply change the artist name when you release to make it the second artist.

So something I'm still a little unclear on... if you have the musician plus account and you share that with one other person, how can you have the revenue of a song sent directly to them? In teams, you can only add those who do not have a profile already and since we both share the same one we cannot divide? How does the splitting of revenue work when you share the same account as someone? Or am I misunderstanding how the sharing works?
Hey there. Yes, the sharing option assumes that you have your own account and your account is only used by one person, even if you use both of the artist names. You would need to manually calculate and distribute earnings on a second artist name if you choose to let someone else use this to release their music.

Im confused on the RUclips thing. Is it mandatory that you have to pay the $5 per song for RUclips to monitor the feed to see if someone is using your music. Cant this be opted out of?
Yes, so you can indeed release your song and NOT choose to enable Content ID, which is what I do for all my “Pete Johns” releases. Otherwise every time I played my own music in a tutorial, it would be flagged and the revenue would go back through the distributor, and back to me. There is a risk that others will use my music, but RUclips actually have another free service where you can display any content from your videos which. May have been used by other people in their videos. I think this would be a good topic for another video as I get a lot of questions about the whole RUclips Content ID and copyright situation.

I did it outside of the first year so unfortunately paid the full amount. If you do it in the first 14 days you get a full refund of the first plan and then pay the full amount. Within the first year you only pay a pro-rated amount. After the first year, you just pay the full amount regardless. I hope this helps. hiya great video, there are a few questions i would like to know if you could help me! 1. when you upload a song, when you add the extras (youtube money, shazam and siri etc) do you pay this fee per song / album or is this a yearly payment for the whole of your songs? 2. if you don't want to select these extras there and then when uploading, can you go back later or and add them on or can you not add them ever again? 3. can you upload the files and artwork using an iphone / ipad or do you have to use a laptop? 4. if you release an EP / album, when you select the extras are they included for the whole of the album or per song on the album (if you had 9 songs on the album and selected the shazam extra for $0.99, would it end up costing you $9.99)? sorry for loads of questions, i hope they make sense and don't worry if you can't answer them, great videos by the way!

for 50k streams I only received 1.8 USD???? I have waited for 2-3 months for the delay in stores yet it still is less than 2dollars which, from my research is wrong because from my research Spotify alone pays around half a cent per stream so 1/2 cent X 30,000 (my Spotify streams) should be more than 150 dollars. any help????
@@PeteJohnsMusic Yes, on the stats on Spotify for artists on the distrokid website, in the last 365 days, i have around 31,000 streams on Spotify and around 20,000 on Apple music and all the others. My bank shows 1.8 dollars for some reason. When i see the excruciating detail, i can see that for one stream o get around 0.006 dollars but for 1,000 streams in a row i get 0.06 dollars (6 cents)

All the plans have the same timeframes for payments as they are dependent upon the actual stores sending the details. Therefore pretty much every distributor will have a similar payout timeframe of 2-3 months.

Hi there. Not sure sorry. I have never had issues with payments by credit card with DistroKid. Check with your bank first to ensure there are no blocks on online/International transactions, then check in with DIstroKid.

Ow would imagine that you could remove your music from all stores (using your current name and account) and could then open a new account in he new name and close the old one? You could just add a new artist name and re-release too as you have suggested. This might be more of a question for DistroKid so suggest reaching out to them.

There’s an article over on DistoKid’s web site about this. I try to find it for you. Essentially it’s not really possible to downgrade as many of the features you get with the upgraded account would then still be in stores (custom label name, custom pricing etc)
You would likely need to cancel and then sign up again and resubmit.

If you want the daily stats, just use the Spotify for artists app. It seems distrokid is only providing the same Spotify streaming stats. Can someone confirm if this has been expanded since this video was made 2 years ago?

hello man. I purchased my distrokid 'musician' plan in september 2020. now i want to upgrade my plan to 'musician plus' version. The 'musician plus' package is $ 36. and it says that if I pay now, they will deposit $ 11.45 back into my account. What I am curious about is; If I buy this package now, will it be valid for 1 year from today (April 2022) or will it be valid until September 2021, as in my old plan?
I’m pretty sure the reason they pro rata it is so that it will be valid from the same start date as your original account.

Hey there. Make sure you remove all songs released and then you’ll need to ask DistroKid to remove your artist name. There’s no way to automatically do this in my experience

Hey there. You need to ensure that all releases under that artist are removed, and then you will need to ask DistroKid to remove the artist name. To my knowledge there is no way to do this yourself.

So, you can add a featured artist in the title using the “feat.” wording suggested by DistroKid. Being with a record label shouldn’t matter ok this situation as long as you’re not using audio that has already been released by a label.

The way Content ID on RUclips works is that if you upload to RUclips and enable content ID, if someone else uses your song in their video and monetises the video, DistroKid will put a claim in on that video and collect any ad revenue from the video on your behalf. I have a video about this in the works which will be coming soon.
So, there’s no way to have the “stats” button on the top screen bar at least you upgrade to Musician plus of higher???
Correct. You can see the “bank” to check streams and purchases that way, but the stats is only for Musician Plus.
How do I set certain tracks on my album to be released as singles before the full album is released?
Hey there. You just need to release the singles first individually and then release the whole album when you are ready for the whole thing to be released.

I would suggest contacting them and your bank to question this. As far as I know they only allow credit cards for payment and provide deposits via PayPal, so not sure why they would be withdrawing money from a bank account?

Hey there my friend. So, I haven’t released anything since my album so I will need to jump in and have a look. But yes, I’m pretty sure that popped up once I had started uploading via DistroKid so I would suggest uploading a track and it should link up your name on Apple.
Steven Official to update the apple music profile you need to go to Apple Music for Artists Beta and register, they've changed it up, before you could do it straight from distrokid
Correct me if I'm wrong- One of the most important, overlooked feature of Musician Plus is that the artist is able to pitch their song to Spotify Curators which is otherwise not possible in the 'Musician' plan?

Hey there. Thanks for watching and for your question. It depends on the platform, but in my experience it only takes around 2 days from when you upload until your song is available to stream or buy in most places. If you want a specific date you can set a release date if you have the “Musician Plus@ account.
So my usual process is to upload two days before I want the song available.

Ommar Ney for Spotify you can get access to your artist page through distrokid and customize everything. iTunes I’m not sure about yet, I’m still trying to figure it out.
Edit: Apple music for artists also helps you change it in the Manage section on computer. you can get access to that though distrokid as well.

Hey there. No, and in fact there’s no way to register on a platform without releasing a song.
Once you submit a song under an artist name, the platform will create that artist name for you.

Artists with very popular music are able to generate more revenue from their streams and because DistroKid gives the artist 100% of all royalties, it makes it easier to get paid.

One of you would need to sign up as Musician Plus and then manage the releases. You need to simply change the artist name when you release to make it the second artist.

So something I'm still a little unclear on... if you have the musician plus account and you share that with one other person, how can you have the revenue of a song sent directly to them? In teams, you can only add those who do not have a profile already and since we both share the same one we cannot divide? How does the splitting of revenue work when you share the same account as someone? Or am I misunderstanding how the sharing works?
Hey there. Yes, the sharing option assumes that you have your own account and your account is only used by one person, even if you use both of the artist names. You would need to manually calculate and distribute earnings on a second artist name if you choose to let someone else use this to release their music.

Im confused on the RUclips thing. Is it mandatory that you have to pay the $5 per song for RUclips to monitor the feed to see if someone is using your music. Cant this be opted out of?
Yes, so you can indeed release your song and NOT choose to enable Content ID, which is what I do for all my “Pete Johns” releases. Otherwise every time I played my own music in a tutorial, it would be flagged and the revenue would go back through the distributor, and back to me. There is a risk that others will use my music, but RUclips actually have another free service where you can display any content from your videos which. May have been used by other people in their videos.
I think this would be a good topic for another video as I get a lot of questions about the whole RUclips Content ID and copyright situation.

No, all songs will still be attributed to the artist name. Features will only show up on the titles.

How much did they charged you when you upgrade?
I did it outside of the first year so unfortunately paid the full amount. If you do it in the first 14 days you get a full refund of the first plan and then pay the full amount. Within the first year you only pay a pro-rated amount. After the first year, you just pay the full amount regardless. I hope this helps. hiya great video, there are a few questions i would like to know if you could help me!
1. when you upload a song, when you add the extras (youtube money, shazam and siri etc) do you pay this fee per song / album or is this a yearly payment for the whole of your songs?
2. if you don't want to select these extras there and then when uploading, can you go back later or and add them on or can you not add them ever again?
3. can you upload the files and artwork using an iphone / ipad or do you have to use a laptop?
4. if you release an EP / album, when you select the extras are they included for the whole of the album or per song on the album (if you had 9 songs on the album and selected the shazam extra for $0.99, would it end up costing you $9.99)?

It’s an automatic renewal of $19.99 per year unless you cancel your membership. (Which will result in your music being taken down).

for 50k streams I only received 1.8 USD???? I have waited for 2-3 months for the delay in stores yet it still is less than 2dollars which, from my research is wrong because from my research Spotify alone pays around half a cent per stream so 1/2 cent X 30,000 (my Spotify streams) should be more than 150 dollars. any help????

@@PeteJohnsMusic Yes, on the stats on Spotify for artists on the distrokid website, in the last 365 days, i have around 31,000 streams on Spotify and around 20,000 on Apple music and all the others. My bank shows 1.8 dollars for some reason. When i see the excruciating detail, i can see that for one stream o get around 0.006 dollars but for 1,000 streams in a row i get 0.06 dollars (6 cents)

All the plans have the same timeframes for payments as they are dependent upon the actual stores sending the details.
Therefore pretty much every distributor will have a similar payout timeframe of 2-3 months.

Hi there. Not sure sorry. I have never had issues with payments by credit card with DistroKid. Check with your bank first to ensure there are no blocks on online/International transactions, then check in with DIstroKid.

Hey there. This is an interesting question? Ow would imagine that you could remove your music from all stores (using your current name and account) and could then open a new account in he new name and close the old one? You could just add a new artist name and re-release too as you have suggested.
